Within the past 2 months, while driving the car I have experienced 2 instances with the CMBS system unexpectedly applying the brakes, even though there was no obstacles it's path.

Driving 25 mph on a straight road, the automatic braking system engaged with beep sound only but not on the dash display as it should. the car was suddenly braked to a stop. nothing was near or in front of the car.

The dash warning lights all come on when the vehicle is started. Numerous Warning messages scroll across the dash indicating just about every system on the vehicle is malfunctioning. The collision warning system stops working, the lane change warning stops working, cruise control stops working. I have no idea what else could have stopped working that could mean the difference between life and death. My vehicle has had this problem for almost two years now. This problem stops after disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes then it comes back unpredictably. Honda dealerships just guess what the problem is because there are no definitive error codes. They randomly want to change parts like fuel injectors, onboard computer, brakes, battery, and others, and charge thousands of dollars and will not refund the money when the problem reappears. This problem is putting drivers at serious risk and Honda has done absolutely nothing to...

We had a tire flat, then the following warning lights and alarms repeated sound for up to one minute and appear every time the car is started: Brakes, Brake System Light, TPMS Light, Engine Check Light, Road Departure Light, Electric Parking Brake Problem, Tire Pressure Monitor Problem, Emissions System Problem, Brake System Problem, Brake Hole System Problem, Power Steering System (EPS) Problem, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem, Hill Start Assist Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem. Risk: is obvious Confirmed by independent service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer. There were not any warnings prior.

We bought this vehicle new in 2017 and now have about 78K miles on it. Since we have owned it there have been SEVERAL (at least 7) occasions where we are driving along on the highway at 35-70MPH (depending on the speed limit) and the emergency forward collision braking system suddenly applies the brakes for no reason. This has happened during daylight and nightime on the open road with no vehicles or objects anywhere in front of us or close to the side of us and, on a few occasions, nearly causing vehicles behind us to crash into us because the brakes come on unexpectedly and we are unable to do anything about it. Early on, we reported this a couple times to our Honda dealer and we were told, "that can happen if there is blowing rain or snow or even a bird flying buy, it is normal so...

I was driving about 25 miles per hour, there were no cars in front of me (in either direction). The car suddenly slammed on the brakes for no reason. My passenger and I were both thrown towards the steering wheel and dashboard, things came flying from the back seat to the front, falling down by the pedals. I was very nearly rear ended, the car behind me was able to swerve to the left but was extremely angry. The car went into neutral, but possibly because something came from the back seat and hit the gearshift, I'm not sure about that. I was stuck in neutral with traffic horns blaring at me. If I'd have been pulling out into traffic when this happened I would easily have been hit broadside. I brought my car to the dealer, they said there was nothing wrong and that perhaps I didn't understand how...

My 2017 Honda CRV throws up ALL warning lights regarding TPMS, Lane Keep Assist, Cruise, Engine, etc...I've replaced the battery. I've taken it to the dealer and they just say we don't know what it is and we would like to hold it for 24-48hrs to do a diagnostic which is $250 out of pocket without a fix. Multiple forums state that this is a consistent problem with the 2017-2021 model years. One common fix is fuel injector replacement, but that only temporarily fixes the issue then all the lights come on again. It's a hazard and since all mechanisms are controlled by electronics, we need Honda to fix the issue or look into it as it's very dangerous to drive when dealers can't even isolate the issue.

Several times the braking system has engaged thinking there was something in the path of the car when there was not. My daughter & I were almost rear ended. It has happened on numerous occasions. Has not been taken in for service for this issue. There was no warning prior to each occurance

The collision mitigation braking system malfunctioned. The car would be available for inspection upon request. After the light turned green I entered the intersection, going approx 20mph, when suddenly the car braked on its own without a car/object in front of my vehicle. I could hear the beeping from the collision mitigation system at the same time. Since I did not know the car was about to stop, I was unable to prevent my dog from falling forward and striking the dashboard. Although myself, my dog and the people behind me were at risk, no injuries were sustained. The person behind me was able to stop luckily. I will be scheduling yet another diagnostic with Honda, though I just did that a few months ago when all the warning lights came on. After the injectors were replaced at that time, they were able to turn off the warning lights. I...

All of the alerts for the ADAS system would all come on alerting everything had failed. This had three times now over a course of a year. Once driving two while starting or parked. After two reboots of the system and a little drive the alerts go away. Also the stereo display had gone black because it lost connection. A reboot fixes that too. That’s been happening longer. Asked the dealer to check for firmware updates. They said there are five for her car after they checked it. We had it on for an oil change. They told us first it would cost 100, then they changed to almost 500 because it was 5 updates. This could be a real safety concern since you will never know if something has failed or not. If it’s their software engineers making the mistakes with coding, why do we have to pay for...

On July 19, 2024, I was driving around 30-35 miles an hour. There were no cars close to me either in front or the back or side. My car started to abruptly slow down in a jerking fashion and then the car beeped. It scared me. It didn't stop completely and then the car started moving normally. If a car was behind me, I could have been hit in the rear. The message "brake" did not come on which is supposed to be the first stage in the forward collision safety. This never happened before and now I feel like I have to turn off the safety feature. My 2017 CR-V has 23,000 mi.

All of my warning lights are on. The above checklist only lets me pick 3 items total but every warning light is on. Brake hold system, power steering, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure, electric parking brake, tpm, emission system problem, all wheel drive system. My car has went from driving 70mph on the highway to suddenly going to 10-20 mph! Super dangerous and this has happened 2 times. First time in March 24’ and again May 24’. The reset resolved it briefly but it returned again and again. Now all lights are on and it scares me to drive on the interstate because I don’t know when it will happen again. My safety features do not work on my car when the lights are on. I have had the codes checked and reset 2 times. Codes P0172 & P0303 were a couple codes it shows.

Have dealt with oil dilution the life of this vehicle, around 63K miles all lights lit up in the dash disabling ALL safety features. For a while this issue would come and go and the lights would clear,CEL included. Brought into Honda for a diagnosis and they state that the vehicle needs new fuel injectors. Due to the CEL from the fuel Injectors it disables ALL safety features therefore putting the driver and others on the road at risk.

The vehicle randomly starts FLASHING every warning message across the info screen, All steering and cruise functions become disabled. No codes when scanned, can't reset the displaty warnings but clears on its own sometimes, then comes back randonmly. Dealer has been no help and cant fix. Warning that display are: COLLISION ITIGATION SYSTEM, ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION SYSTEM PROBLEM, BRAKE PROBLE< STEERING PROBLEM and more.

I was on an exit ramp from one freeway to another. The Honda Collision Management Warning System activated with 2 warning indicators and alerts then immediately activated the brakes hard skidding the tires. After 2-3 seconds it released the brakes. There were no vehicles in front or to the side of me. A vehicle behind braked to avoid me. The weather was clear with good visibility. The sun was to the left. The pavement was dry. I took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection. There were no computer codes recorded for the event. They inspected the camera and radar, and test drove the vehicle and reported no problems.

My 16 year old son was driving the vehicle when all of the lights on the dashboard started flashing and alarms started sounding. As a new driver he found this really alarming and didn't know what to do. He was driving along at 40 mph along a local main road and very nearly collided with a vehicle in front of him at a set of traffic lights because he lost attention on the road. He pulled to the side of the road and was then a hazard to other road users and in a dangerous spot himself until he called me and I went out to him in a different car. We drove home carefully as the car seemed to be running fine but he was understandably shaken up. This has occurred multiple times in the last couple of weeks. The car bleeps several times and goes through all of...

Driving in clear conditions in the evening, the collision mitigation braking system suddenly engaged and activated the brakes bringing the car to a very sudden stop. There were no obstacles, cars, or any reason at all for the system to activate. Nothing was in front of the car, there were no other vehicles in the other lane, there was no glare from the sun, no animals, nothing. I was traveling at approximately 45 miles per hour on a straight, smooth paved, three lane road. The brakes were fully engaged by the cmbs system for several seconds and then the alert disappeared and normal operation resumed. The dashboard "BRAKE" indicator appeared during the incident. It is highly fortunate there was no car immediately behind me, as my sudden and unpredictable stop would almost certainly have caused a wreck.

Started having trouble with the car just suddenly braking on the highway a few times but was able to disengage the ACC and take control of the car. A few times the entire radar system would shut down and I would take it into the dealer where they could find nothing wrong with the car even though by that time ACC would not work on the longest interval setting. Finally on a road trip in the beginning of August 2023 the entire radar system broke and could not be reset. I needed to replace the entire radar system for $1900 on a car that had less than 42,000 miles and is 5 years old!! Not to mention the danger in suddenly stopping on the freeway. I called Honda and they do not have a recall for this problem .... does someone have to have a terrible accident before a recall...

The radar sensor was stolen in July 2023. A Honda dealer confirmed this. Two representatives of the dealer indicated the sensor can be stolen in minutes without tools from the 2017 CRV and Honda placed the sensor elsewhere in later model CRVs to reduce its vulnerability to theft. Warning lights indicate 5 Honda-installed safety features no longer work without the sensor: adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, a collision mitigation system, a road departure mitigation system, and automatic high beams. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. When the sensor is stolen, it is sometimes yanked out quickly (my case), damaging other radar parts. The dealer mentioned above told me replacement of the sensor and repair of the radar would cost about $2700. There are unfortunately strong disincentives to repair the radar, with the result that 5 safety features no longer work: The high repair cost, coupled with the...

2017 CR-V has 55,000 miles on it. ALL of the dashboard warning lights are coming on randomly, causing panic and making it impossible to tell if something is really wrong. Very Dangerous. Honda dealer diagnosis is to replace all 4 fuel injectors at cost of $1,726. There are literally thousands of reports about this online, people being given the same repair fix, often without permanent success, and with having to pay thousands for relatively low mileage vehicles. Honda has issued extended warranty for other Honda models about fuel injectors but has done nothing for the Honda CR-Vs. 2017 seems to be a bad year for this fault. Driving a vehicle with multiple warnings flashing randomly is dangerous.

While sitting in the longest traffic jam I ever experienced on a hot summer day and not moving, suddenly all lights and driver assistant lights came on the dashboard and the parking brake engaged. I was able to release the parking brake and drive with all the lights lit on the dashboard. My vehicle had only 88K miles. A Honda dealership ran a diagnostics and reported a code po172 engine fuel trim lean so car will need injectors and fuel pipe to fix. I just paid for the diagnostics and not the repair since they were able to reset the computer to clear the problem.

The Fuel Injectors in this generation of Honda CR-V's (2017-current), have widespread reported issues related to clogged injectors - mostly in 2017-2019 models at approx. the 75,000 mile range. This causes the vehicles computer to illuminate multiple warning messages on the dash board (Emission System Problem, Brake System Problem, Brake Hold System Problem, Power Steering System (EPS) Problem, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem), Hill Start Assist Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Electric Parking Brake Problem, Tire Pressure Monitor Problem). These warning messages are usually related to an OBD-II code of running too rich or cylinder misfire - P0172, P0303, P219F, etc.... Once one of these fuel injector related trouble codes is illuminated on the dash, all the above listed safety features are disabled. In certain cases, the car may even go into LIMP mode - even while on the highway and...

CMBS system in Honda CRV 2017 Driving 25-30 mph on a clear day (sunny, dry pavement) when the brakes engaged without warning (beeping sounded, but I didn't see the "BRAKING" sign in orange blink) car stopped hard, I jerked forward in the seat. I was able to drive the car back home (less than a mile away). There were no cars in front of me and fortunately none in the back of me so this didn't cause an accident. I'm afraid to drive the car in case the brakes engage suddenly and causes a rear end accident. I called my local Honda dealership and made first appt available 7/11/2023. This follows 2 incidents where all warning lights flashed (5/8/2023) and (6/17/2023) (including brake system light) the codes pulled were about cylinder misfire at a Honda dealer (on 6/17/2023 - CMA Valley Honda)

While driving all these systems will start flashing and no longer work. The dealer's fix it to simply reset the codes. So this can happen at any time and be a risk to the driver and people in the vehicle and around it. This has happened numerous times in the 5 years I have owned this vehicle.

The Body Control Module has failed. Since all of the safety features in/on the vehicle are monitored by this part is the vehicle actually safe to drive? That is the question I have posed to 3 dealers. None have been willing to say that it is absolutely safe. The part is on national backorder with no availability date provided. Can you tell me that the vehicle is safe to drive?

Collision Mitigation system problem indicator light causing random braking and false brake warnings
#11511966 |
Since 2019, my indicator lights come on all at once, and despite it going to the dealership multiple times, it has yet to fixed, and they continue to charge me for diagnostics. Research shows that many Honda owners experience the same thing. Now I'm being told it's my fuel injectors, which is baffling. They will not address this systemic mechanical defect.

Have owned the vehicle for 6 months. In that time the vehicle has applied braking by itself more than 10 times when there has been no reason (no car in front, no debris in road, no adverse weather, nothing but clear pavement), . Happens on low speed roads (35 mph) and also on highway speeds. Have been lucky not to be rear ended or cause another type of accident due to drivers avoiding the my car that is emergency braking for no reason. The times the vehicle flashes the "BRAKE" warning is 30 or more times (not applying the brakes - just audible alarm and message). Out of all those times, there were 2 instances that made sense for the vehicle to flash a warning. All others were false positives that frighten the driver and cause significant distraction from the driving task. This system should be shut off. The vehicle...

At approximately 10:15am on 1/7/2023, I was driving down Westport Road at approximately 45mph. As I approached the intersection at Town Center Drive the collision warning system alert started to go off. There was no car in front of me and the cars on Town Center Drive were at a stop. As I went through the light, without warning, the automatic breaking system engaged, bringing my car to a complete stop. Fortunately, there was no car behind me or there would have been a serious accident.

11/21/22: I was driving on a city street at the posted speed limit ( speed limit 25mph) and I noticed there was some road construction ahead that included steel plates on the street. There was no car ahead of me, but there was traffic behind me. I slowed and then braked slightly so I wouldn't hit the plates at full speed. Right then my car literally "slammed on the brakes" and I came to a complete stop before crossing the plates. Everything on the passenger seat flew to the floor and the car engine died. I did see an orange warning but it happened so quickly I don't recall what it was but I'm guessing it was the BRAKE warning. Thank goodness the driver behind me was paying attention or this would have caused a rear end accident! I did not go to the Honda dealer at the time but...

My CRV turns on the emergency braking warning visible on my dash. There is no reason why it should be doing this. It is random. So far the car has not slammed on my brakes it's just giving me the warnings. I have never been in a situation that required emergency braking. Although I have had multiple events I just found this website and used today's date.

While driving on the freeway at 65 mph, the car's brakes suddenly went on causing the car to swerve and almost be hit by another car. This is the 3rd time that this has happened in the last year.
#11484347 |
Sometimes the braking system will flash even when I am not close to any cars in front of me. I have read reports that the automatic emergency brake system has fully engaged in other cars while driving on the highway and while mine has not fully engaged, it has flashed a warning sign which worries me that one day it will engage fully while I am driving!

At about 9:15 a.m. today I was lightly braking as I approached an intersection where I needed to turn right. There were no vehicles in front of me. The weather was clear and dry, about 70 degrees. As I slowed, the AEB system flashed BRAKE several times, and then the car came to a sudden and complete stop. The same thing happened to this car at the same spot several months ago under the same circumstances — no other traffic ahead and good weather. There is a metal plate on the road ahead of where these incidents took place. The plate has been there for years and we drive over it all the time with no problem. But when no cars are ahead, could the AEB system be mistaking the plate for an obstacle?
#11475003 |
I was driving down the highway and all ADAS lights came on and kept repeating. I reset the system but the warnings remained. I took the vehicle to local mechanic who plugged in his scanner. The first thing that popped up was wheel speed sensor along with all the other ADAS warnings. Did alot of research on the internet and found out this was a common problem with the CRV. I decided to buy a new sensor and replace myself. This actually solved the problem. Why do all ADAS lights come on for one problem?

Yesterday as I was driving my Honda CRV at about 55 mph on a rural road, it suddenly stopped. There was NOTHING around, no other cars, animals, NOTHING! It took my speed down to about 10 mph in seconds, threw my groceries on the floor HARD. I called two different Honda dealerships and the both told me they hadn't heard any reports of this happening, yet I did a search and found that it IS an issue! The one dealership wants me to bring my car in for inspection to the tune of $139. The problem is, I no longer feel safe driving this car! Fortunately I was on a rural road and not the highway! There have been NO warning message or other symptoms prior to this. The forward collision is the issue. This car is available for inspection. Any other questions, contact this email: [email protected] or cell: 260-350-4429...

CMBS or forward collision warning system misinterpreted several times. Car stopped suddenly for no reason while driving. Nothing was in front of side of the car! It’s really dangerous to drive in this vehicle, that’s why I always turn off my CMBS feature while driving.

I have experienced problems with this since December 2021. All warning lights start flashing with Hill start problem, brake system problem, brake hold problem, adaptive control problem, stability problem, TPMS problem, Road departure mitigation problem. These warning continue to cycle over and over. Once the warnings are cleared, there are no issues for a few weeks to a month, but it returns. This has occurred 5-6 times since December. I replaced the battery three weeks ago and the issue reappeared today, 27 Apr 22. While researching the issue, I discovered many Honda users experiencing the same issue. This is an issue Honda has to address this issue. I am the only owner of my vehicle which only has 39K miles on it.

I read an article saying you're investigating sudden braking on Honda's that have advanced safety features, I wanted to comment on my experiences as they are moderately dangerous. There are 2 instances where my car will suddenly brake (and flash a warning on the dash) when it's not necessary: 1. Going under a an overpass during the day. The automatic braking system gets confused by shadows. If the cruise is on, the car will brake, though not all the time. Maybe half the time. Almost all the time, I will get a warning to brake, even if there is no one else around. 2. When I have the adaptive cruise control on and I'm on the highway in the right lane, if the car in front of me slows down to exit, 100% of the time my car will brake hard, and if I'm not paying attention to turn off...

Phantom breaking occured roughly 2 MONTHS after purchasing the vehicle (new) in the middle of the freeway. The forward collision for some reason had a false negative, and the brakes seized up. I was able to safely pull over, but after restarting the vehicle, the car would not move. The brakes were still seized from the safety system, and would not allow the vehicle to move forward. After about an hour, and constant tries, for some reason - the brakes released and we were able to drive the vehicle again. We went straight to the dealership, to inspect. They had the car for a couple days, the mechanic also took the car home on his commute (~100 miles roundtrip), but was not able to recreate. There was no charge for the vehicle as it was still under warranty.

While driving 35 mph down a busy 3 lane road, I approached a steel plate in the road. When I was less than 3 feet from that plate, my car's auto braking system suddenly engaged hard, forcing my car to slam on the brakes. The car behind me thankfully was far enough away they could brake without hitting me, but if they were a foot closer, they would have rearended me. This is not the first time this system has auto braked at an incorrect time, but it is the closest I have come to an accident because of it.

Randomly, on at least three occasions our car activated the brake system and gave us a 'brake' warning on the dash when no obstacle or vehicle was in front of our car. I read of this problem being reported in the media and thought it was important to record our experience with nhtsa.

On at least two occasions, I have been driving at Interstate speeds in the Peoria IL and Danville IL metro regions, and the car has braked hard, with the warning of a forward collision imminent. In one instance I was driving west on I-74 at the east most end of the Murray Baker Bridge when the car break was applied automatically, reducing my speed by about 20 miles per hour while there was traffic behind me. No injuries. At the time I assumed it was the angle of the car going up the hill onto the bridge, and that the car detected the bridge structure above. In the other incident, I was driving in Danville IL with no traffic anywhere near me, and the car beeped, alerted that the forward collision was imminent, and the breaks were applied hard. It possibly reduced my speed 10 MPH or so, but was...

I get bunch of error messages on my dashboard display stating there are multiple system failure, like Break System Problem, Forward Collision system Problem, Lane Keeping Assistance Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control system Problem, Electric Parking Break Problem, Tire pressure Monitor Problem, Emission System Problem etc. Because of this if I have adaptive cruise control activated, suddenly I start getting these errors and cruise control stops working, my break hold system failed, I was standing of traffic signal with break hold applied and suddenly I started getting these errors, I had to push break manually to keep it stop, otherwise it would have started moving because break hold system was failed. I have researched on it and a lot of more Honda CRV 2017 customers getting these errors and there is no solution provided by Honda. This issue can be dangerous when we rely on these security feature while driving on...

MALFUNCTION INDICATORS ALL LIGHT UP AT THE SAME TIME. MECHANIC CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, BUT HE RESETS THE COMPUTER AND THE LIGHTS GO OFF....TEMPORARILY! THE LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL I GO BACK TO THE MECHANIC. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME. MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY...IF I GO THERE, IT'LL COST A FORTUNE FOR THEM JUST TO LOOK AT IT, AND THEN ANOTHER FORTUNE FOR CHARGING TO 'FIX' THE PROBLEM. CAR IS STATIONARY...HAPPENS WHEN I TURN THE CAR ON. I LIVE IN TUCSON, AZ, SO I DOUBT IT'S THE WEATHER!
