2017 HONDA CR-V Electrical System Problems

I was driving across a major intersection when the car slammed on the brakes for no reason. There were no shadows. I was not under a bridge. It is an overcast day. No direct sun. My safety was at risk because I could have been hit by oncoming traffic when I was trying to go forward.

Impact on the driver side from another vehicle caused it to be totaled but not a single airbag deployed.

Car has been having all of the dashboard lights come on. I search up this and there are so many same gen Honda CRV 2017-19 having the same issue happen repeatedly. I have came across atleast 50+ people online that keep having this issue come back. Also at times it will says engine is too hot and to park safely. This is 3rd time where my car is in idle and the car shuts off and says engine is too hot to which I then turn it off. When I proceed to try to start car after waiting it does not stay on. I went to 2 different Hondas and they stated battery, alternator, starter are good. This car is no good if everyone is having the same issues.

All warnings on dash appeared on vehicle. Took to the dealership and all 4 cylinder fuel injectors need replacing. Car only has 39,900 miles on it.

Center display for backup camera locks up and no longer shows live view causing a near miss on people walking behind vehicle. Possibly related: Center display also sometimes goes blank or audio fails. Need video to show sequence of events, but that can not be uploaded. Also, when center display sometimes stays blank (although, backup camera might still work, without guide lines), fuse #19 under the hood can be removed w/ vehicle off, then CR-V started, then off, and fuse re-placed, and then center display will work again for some time.

I have had my crv suddenly brake on me on multiple occasions when absolutely no one is around to cause it. It’s created many of close calls and given me mild whip lash in the past. But yesterday it happened in a way much worse than ever bc I was on the interstate and it abruptly stopped (again no one in front of me or to the side) which jolted me and gave me some brutal whiplash and then it was locked up & wouldn’t go faster than 20mph!! Unknown: all light on dash come on. Maybe an electrical or engine problem. All safety features on car disable. Honda dealer said it’s an emission problem. All dashboard lights come on when car is idling. Changed battery and tested alternator and issue stills persist. Temporary resolution is rebooting the system while car is in accessory mode. I've read many articles with similar issues where after paying thousands of dollars to the dealership to resolve the issue with no success.

Back in July, my car started having the lights come on; it lit up the whole dashboard. The brake system, tire pressure, brake hold system, hill start, adaptive cruise control, etc. It affected the power of the vehicle. There was no acceleration at all. It was like it went in limp mode. This has happened numerous times. The other problem is starting it was making a hesitation to start. It would also start rough as in almost like a shake. We noticed that it was using antifreeze more often than it should and would get hot sitting still. That's when we took car to be inspected by a certified mechanic and that's when we found out that we needed a new engine due to antifreeze seeping into the engine.

UNEXPECTED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. 2017 Honda CR-V. Twice while highway driving with autopilot on, system failed to slow it when approaching other vehicles and it sped up instead. When I pumped the brakes, it went away. I TOOK IT OFF AUTOPILOT HENCEFORTH. Several days later, coming out of a market parking lot and approaching a stop sign, the accelerator went down and sped me forward with brakes doing barely anything. I shot into a CVS parking lot, managed to stop it and turn the engine off. It's sitting in a garage now and no one knows what to do and I am terrified to drive it. Could have killed me or others around me. IT WAS NOT THE FLOOR MAT NOR ANYTHING I DID.

The headlights were on after I replaced the battery. Did a little bit of research and found that the body control module or (BCM) would be going out. Got a new one sent and tried replacing it and the part didn't end up working. Took it to a non honda dealer. Got it taken care of, but the new BCM wouldn't work. All warning lights came on and now I have to deal with the BCM going out again and not able to return the part back to Honda.

All dashboard lights ( warnings) will light up and has stayed on for 4 days. Will randomly clear on its own. Car will also jerk while accelerating speed from 30 to 40 miles and above. Car has been inspected by a mechanic shop and has checked fuses and has had a tune up. This has happened over several months this year starting back in March. Issue still continues. On 9/2/25 all the engine lights came on on the dash. I replaced the battery and it was fine the rest of the day. Then 9/3/25 once again all the lights are on and none of the ADAS work.

I have purchased a car from a private seller with an altered odometer (mileage discrepancy and now it has all type of lights showing on the dash and car stops running all of a sudden I have taken to Honda dealer for diagnosis and they told us we been fraud on miles and they messed with it electronically

The electrical system periodically goes haywire - all warning lights come on and flash. It some cases, my car lost power and it was unsafe to drive. I was worried it would overheat. Our 2017 Honda CRV EX Body Control Module has to be replaced due to the alarm system coming on and the car trying to start itself along with a parasitic drain. I have driven Honda's my entire life because they are suppose to be reliable and I guess this is no longer the case. Very disappointed with this vehicle.

Coolant and oil draining like crazy. Absurd about if smoke (white/blue) coming out of exhaust. At times the screen for the radio with just decide to not work.

All lights shows up on my cars dashboard and at first start it shake with vibration for 2 minutes then it stables even though on the highway when I try to accelerate it doesn’t go smoothly last time I have the same issue and paragon fixed it by changing alternator and reset by computer but still I am facing the same problem. They are always going through the temporary solution by resetting code sometimes changing battery or recommended some other parts although they never take seriously about my head gasket problem and because of that causes misfire. I need the permanent solution. It’s very frustrating for me to face that problem everyday.

All the safety feature icons come on each time the vehicle is started and stay illuminated on the dashboard. It is unclear if these safety features would work in the event they are needed. Feel this is a safety concern that Honda is not addressing.

ALL dash lights came on and it showed all safety systems had faults. Took it to the dealership and was told I needed injectors. I have looked into this issue and many CR-V models have had warranty extensions for this exact issue. Lucky me mine is not one of the one's in the VIN group for this extension. Electronic power steering fault due to internal short inside electronic steering rack and pinion assembly.

The car first does not respond to the key fob and when you look inside the dash is on despite not using push-to-start and you have to use the manual key to open the door. Then the car alarm will go off and continue not to repond to the KeyFob until you, once again, use the manual key to unlock and silence th e car. The only solution I have gotten is to take the battery out of my key fob and disable push-to-start function. They already replaced my Key Fob AND car battery and the problem has persisted. No recall information as of yet and I'm taking it to the dealership for further scrutiny...

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the ABS was making an abnormal dinging sound, and there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode, lost motive power, and shut off unintendedly. The failure had gotten worse over time. The contact stated that the failure was related to Technical Service Bulletin: 22-002. The contact called a master mechanic and was informed that the vehicle had gone into LIMP Mode to protect the engine. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel injectors were leaking into the spark plugs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000. The VIN was not available.

We have had this problem more than once but this morning it nearly caused an accident. My husband was driving to work and all of a sudden the car's automatic breaking system caused the car to stop dead, causing the car behind him to have to swerve up on the sidewalk to avoid hitting him. He was not going over a metal plate, there waDSs no car stopped in front of him. I have had my car taken to Honda dealerships with an issue of all my warning lights would come on. No one has been able to fix the issue. I was driving on a major highway at 60mph when all of a sudden the car started to automatically brake intermittently with warnings flashing. I slowed down to below 30mph in the right lane and put my flashers on traveling to the next off ramp, while the car continued to brake intermittently and not respond appropriately to applying the gas. Several warnings flashed, including: Emergency Braking system problems; Crash Mitigation Problem; Transmission System Problem; Adaptive Cruise Control Problem. The vehicle has a consistent problem where all dashboard warning lights come on at the same time, sometimes when this happens the vehicle enters what they call limp mode and won't go above 10-20 mph. This occurred multiple times to me and recently on the highway where a tractor trailer almost hit my vehicle because of the loss of speed with no brake lights. It has been to multiple honda dealerships where most recently I was told it was fuel injectors. I replaced the fuel injectors and it happened again this time the dealership told me to replace the turbo. Did that and on the way home from the dealership the lights come back on. There should be a class action law suit against honda for this common issue that they don't take seriously. Wait until someone actually is hurt by this problem.

My 2017 Honda CRV throws up ALL warning lights regarding TPMS, Lane Keep Assist, Cruise, Engine, etc...I've replaced the battery. I've taken it to the dealer and they just say we don't know what it is and we would like to hold it for 24-48hrs to do a diagnostic which is $250 out of pocket without a fix. Multiple forums state that this is a consistent problem with the 2017-2021 model years. One common fix is fuel injector replacement, but that only temporarily fixes the issue then all the lights come on again. It's a hazard and since all mechanisms are controlled by electronics, we need Honda to fix the issue or look into it as it's very dangerous to drive when dealers can't even isolate the issue.

The safety systems of the car fail upon startup and remain this way for multiple cycles of driving the car. The reality is that I cannot check enough boxes above because the form doesn't allow me. For the 3rd time in 18 months my car has just stopped accelerating on the freeway and all of my sensors go off at once, my touch screen and speakers go on and off repeatedly. History: Vehicle brakes failed suddenly while in motion. Brake System problem was flashing on the dashboard followed by various electronic system failure messages. The problem first occurred on Nov 3, 2023 and was reported to NHTSA with issue # 11553355. The issue was also reported to American Honda (Case # XXX). Vehicle logged an error code.
