TAKATA RECALL, I HAVE A BAD NOIZ IN THE MOTOR AND MY SUSPENSION IS BAD
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V332000 (SUSPENSION), BUT THE CONTACT WAS NOT NOTIFIED. AFTER AN OIL CHANGE, THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STRUTS WERE BENT WITH EXTENSIVE CORROSION ON THE SPRING COILS AND STRUTS. THE DEALER FAILED TO INDICATE IF THEY WOULD PROVIDE THE RECALL REPAIR FOR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2000 FORD TAURUS DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WITH MY WIFE AND SMALL CHILD, ON OUR WAY TO CHURCH, WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE SPRING BROKE AND NEARLY PULLED OUR CAR INTO A GUARD RAIL AND OFF A BRIDGE. THIS HAPPENED SOMETIME IN 2004 AND I CAN STILL REMEMBER THE EXACT LOCATION ON HWY 59. IT'S A DAY I DOUBT I EVER FORGET. I REMEMBER THE MECHANIC TELLING ME A FRONT SPRING SHOULD NEVER FAIL. HE SAID THERE WERE NO CURRENT RECALLS, SO I WAS STUCK WITH THE BILL. I REMEMBER BEING FURIOUS WITH FORD NOT ONLY BECAUSE MY FAMILY NEARLY DIED, BUT BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T OWN UP TO SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. HERE IT IS NEARLY 12 YEARS LATER, AND I FOUND AN INVOICE FROM 2008 FOR NEW STRUTS AND SWAY BARS THAT COST ME NEARLY $1,000. I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK THAT BILL...
FRONT END UNACCEPTABLE! THEN DEFROSTER DIDN'T WORK IN WINTER AND I HAD TO USE MY SHIRT SLEEVE TO KEEP RUBBING THE WINDSHIELD. I TOLD AC COLLINS FORD DEALERSHIP THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE COIL SPRINGS AND BRAKES WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I ALSO TOLD THEM THAT THE AC WAS LEAKING IN CAR. I TOLD THEM THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE WHEN I WAS BRAKING. I CAN SEND OVER THE EMAILS IF YOU LIKE. AC COLLINS SOLD ME THIS CAR WITH SERIOUS SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. DRIVERS SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND RUPTURED THE TIRE. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN CALIFORNIA AND MOVED TO NEW ENGLAND 10 YEARS AGO, SO IT HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO ROAD SALT. I CALLED FORD. THE REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. I READ THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE 1999-2000 FORD TAURUS FOR THIS PRECISE PROBLEM. CAR HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR A MONTH OR TWO. AFTER STARTING IT ONE DAY IN EARLY MARCH, OWNER HEARD SPRING ON THE FRONT, LEFT STRUT POP AND BREAK. THE CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION NOR HAD IT BEEN FOR QUITE SOME TIME. IN AN ATTEMPT TO TAKE IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, THE SPRING PUNCTURED TIRE. THE SET OF FOUR TIRES HAD BEEN RECENTLY PURCHASED BY OWNER. OWNER HAD TO PAY FOR TOW, BRAND NEW TIRE, AND BOTH FRONT QUICK STRUTS FOR VEHICLE PLUS LABOR COSTS. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED ON 7-15-2004 REGARDING INSTALLING PANELS TO PROTECT THE TIRES FROM THE EXACT TYPE OF DAMAGES INCURRED. DAHL FORD DEALERSHIP STATED THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO VEHICLE'S SPECIFIC VIN, SO, THEY WOULD NOT PUT THE PANELS IN NOR REPLACE DAMAGED COMPONENTS AT NO CHARGE. OWNER ADVISED DAHL FORD THAT THIS RECALL WAS SENT FROM ADVANCE AUTO PARTS...
COIL SPRINGS FOR THIS YEAR ARE DEFECTIVE! MY DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING EXPLODED AND SHOT THROUGH THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE WHILE THE CAR WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY! I HAVE PICTURES IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM. I HAD BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE THE DAY BEFORE; THANK GOD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN THEN! THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE BECAME FLAT AND THE CONTACT NOTICE THAT THE REAR COIL SPRING WAS FRACTURED, CAUSING THE TIRE TO BECOME FLAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR COIL SPRING WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT HEARD A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DECLINED ANY ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE REPAIR WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000.
SINCE 2004, I HAD TO HAVE MY ENGINE REBUILT IN 2009 THE COST WAS 1,700, DUE TO FAILURE IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM"PROBABLE CAUSE WAS THE COOLANT SYSTEM ERODED', AND STILL HAVE COOLANT ISSUES, THE REPAIRS ON THE COOLANT WAS ALMOST 700. AFTER THOSE REPAIRS WERE CONDUCTED, I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO GRAND PRAIRIE FORD, BECAUSE MY CAR WOULD NOT CHANGE GEARS. GRAND PRAIRIE FORD PRESENTED ME A REPAIR LIST STATING AT THAT POINT MY CAR NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND WOULD COST ANOTHER 3,000 TO REPAIR. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO EAGLE TRANSMISSION IN IRVING, TEXAS. THE MANAGER TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND IN FACT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL ERROR AND THAT THE BRAIN WOULD HAVE TO BE RECALIBRATED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK TO GRAND PRAIRIE FORD TO HAVE THE BRAIN RECALIBRATED. THE CAR AT THAT POINT DROVE OFF THEIR LOT JUST...
MY COIL SPRING BROKE, COULD HAVE WENT INTO MY TIRE. ONLY HAVE 95000, MILES SAY THERE'S NO WARRANTY BECAUSE ITS OVER THE YEARS, IT SHOULD BE MILES NOT YEARS. *TR

CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF DRIVER-SIDE FRONT SPRING DURING A TURN ON RESIDENTIAL STREETS, CAUSING TEMPORARY LOSS OF CONTROL AND NEAR COLLISION. EJECTION OF BROKEN PORTION OF SPRING CAUSED NO INJURIES NOR DAMAGE TO TIRE OF VEHICLE IN QUESTION; HOWEVER, OTHER VEHICLES PASSED OVER RESULTING DEBRIS AND DROVE ON, POSSIBLY SUFFERING TIRE DAMAGE THAT WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY APPARENT. EVIDENTLY, FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM WITH THESE FRONT COIL SPRINGS, ISSUING A RECALL, BUT HAS FAILED TO EXTEND IT TO COVER ALL FAILURES. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR IN THE GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP AND MY VEHICLE VEERED INTO A LARGE MOUND OF HARD SNOW WHICH BENT THE LOWER LEFT FRONT OF MY CAR. THEY TOLD ME NO, THE REAR SPRINGS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, HE ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD BEEN INUNDATED WITH CONSUMERS WITH THE REAR SPRINGS BROKEN BUT FORD REFUSES TO FIX THEM. RIGHT FRONT AND RIGHT REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE. THE FRONT APPEARS TO HAVE BROKEN IN THE DRIVEWAY, PUNCTURING THE TIRE. WHEN THE REAR BROKE IS UNKNOWN. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS UNDER RECALL, BUT CHARGED ME FOR NEW TIRE AND REAR SPRINGS. *TR
2000 FORD TAURUS WITH 58, 500 MILES. VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN MY GARAGE, ENGINE OFF. UPON SLIDING INTO THE DRIVERS SEAT, I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE ENTIRE CAR SHOOK. NOTHING EXTERNAL EVIDENT ON INSPECTION. TOOK TO DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT BOTH FRONT SPRINGS AND ONE REAR SPRING WERE BROKEN. I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AFTER WORK AND WAS GOING TO PARK MY CAR WHEN I HEARD THIS CRUNCH SOUND. I THEN NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS SITTING LOPSIDED ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE AND SINCE THEN THE CAR HAS BEEN MAKING CRUNCHING SOUNDS. THE DASH LIGHTS ALSO WENT OUT ALONG W/THE HEATER. ALL COIL SPRINGS COULD CRACK AND CAUSE MISHAP. *JB
I HAD AN APPOINTMENT ON SATURDAY 5/6/06 FOR A RECALL TO PUT A GUARD ON THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS. ON TUESDAY, 5/2/06, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE, RUPTURING THE TIRE AND CAUSING THE FRONT END OF THE CAR TO HIT THE ROAD. FORD REPLACED THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS, PUT ON THE GUARDS AND REPLACED THE FRONT TIRE AS PART OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OF THE RECALL. THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE AS WELL, TEARING UP THE REAR TIRE BUT NOT BURSTING IT. CONSUMER RIGHT REAR COIL SPRING BROKE CUTTING INTO TIRE. *TS (11/16/05) THE BRAKES WERE GRINDING AND THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE REAR SINCE THE COIL SPRINGS WERE REPLACED. *SC
2000 FORD TAURUS WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE CONSUMER WAS TRYING TO PARK THE VEHICLE. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK AND THE BRAKE EQUIPMENT WAS NOT RESPONDING.*MR PULLS TO LEFT. TIRES WERE ROTATED AND FRONT END ALIGNMENT PERFORMED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE DPFE SENSOR WAS REPLACED.
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH LEFT REAR TIRE BLEWOUT. DRIVER MAINTAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. SUSPICION OF REAR COIL SPRING FAILURE. ONCE REACHING BACK HOME CONSUMER HEARD A RUMBLING SOUND. THE FRONT DRIVER COIL SPRING FAILED AND CUT THE TIRE IN HALF. THE SWAY BAR LINK AND THE SPEED SENSOR BROKE. DEALER INDICATED, NOTHING THEY COULD DO, ADVISED THE CONSUMER TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. *AK *JB
THE VEHICLE ALIGNMENT WILL EAT OFF TIRE, CAUSING TREAD WEAR AND TEAR. *AK THE FRONT TIRE(S) HAD WORE OUT. THE DEALER SENT THE CONSUMER TO THE TIRE COMPANY AND THEY SENT THE CONSUMER BACK TO THE DEALER STATING IT WAS AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND SOON AFTER THE WIRES WERE SEEN EXTENDING OUT OF THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *SCC *JB
TIRES: REPORTED VIBRATION , SHIMMY AND PULLING TO THE LEFT. TOOK TO DEALER 6/24/2000 (1829) MILES, BALANCED TIRES. ON 11/14/2000 (9061)MILES, 04/23/2001 (12871) BALANCED TIRES. FINALLY, 5/25/2001 (14518) REPLACED TWO FRONT TIRES. VIBRATION AND SHIMMY STOPPED BUT KEPT PULLING TO THE LEFT. ON 10/10/2001 (23876) MILES, CHARGED ME FOR ALIGNMENT, CAR STOPPED PULLING. TRANSMISSION: AT APPROXIMATELY 40800 MILES CAR HAD A NOTICEABLE SHUDDER WHILE GOING IN REVERSE. TOOK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A CRACKED CASING AS NOTED IN TSB 15559 NHTSA NUMBER (630095) CAUSED BY MISS MANUFACTURE OF A PART. WAS INFORMED DEALER OR FORD MOTOR CO. I HAVE OWNED MY 2002 FORD TAURUS FOR 32 MONTHS. DURING THIS TIME, I HAVE HADE THE THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH REPLACED TWICE, NEW REAR STRUTS, REPLACED AIRBAG SYSTEM.
