I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND TRIED TO DRIVE AND MY 2000 FORD TAURUS WOULD NOT MOVE. IT HAS NOT SHOWN ANY SIGNS OF THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING IN THE PAST. IT HAS HAD 2 ENGINES AND AN AC COMPRESSOR WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE WARRANTY IS UP AND NO ONE CAN GIVE ANY ADVICE. I HAVE HEARD THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE FORD TAURUS. *TR

2000 FORD TAURUS WITH SEVERAL REPAIRS MADE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE HAD THE HEADS ON THE MOTOR REPLACED TWICE, DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WOULD NOT GO UP OR DOWN. COOLANT RESERVOIR WAS REPLACED. TRANSMISSION HAD WORK DONE TO IT, AND THE BACK LOCK DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY. *KB THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM. *JB
MY 2000 FORD TAURUS TRANSMISSION IS NOT WORKING. THE CAR ONLY HAS 45,567 MILES ON IT, AND ARE THE ORIGINAL ONES AS CHECKED BY CAR FACTS. ONE DAY AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA MY VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF ONGOING TRAFFIC. IF I DIDN'T TURN ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND LIFT THE FRONT HOOD ON MY VEHICLE, I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT, INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVE HEARD NUMEROUS PEOPLE STATING THAT THEIR FORD TAURUS HAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. SO, WHY HAS THE MANUFACTURER NOT RECALLED THIS CAR? THE ONLY WARNING I HAD WAS THE DAY BEFORE WHEN FLUID LEAKED FROM UNDER THE CAR HOOD. I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE I ALWAYS GET MY VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND GET OIL CHANGES EVERY 3,000 MILES. *TR

TRANSMISSION PROBLEM: I HAVE HAD MY 2000 FORD TAURUS FOR ONLY 3 YEARS AND THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION IS NO GOOD! THE EXACT MILEAGE ON THE ODOMETER READS 48,143 MILES. I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN SOLD A LEMON. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUR CAR ON 10/7/07 WHILE ON OUR TRIP TO ATLANTA, GEORGIA AND THE CAR BROKE DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY - JIMMY CARTER BOULEVARD. HIS LIFE WAS IN DANGER BECAUSE ANOTHER PASSENGER'S CAR ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE BACK OF OUR VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS RUNNING AND SUDDENLY STOPPED. THE CAR NOTE WILL NOT BE PAID OFF UNTIL DECEMBER '2008. I FEEL THAT THERE DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR FORD MODEL CAR. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHEN DRIVING BELOW 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILS TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY. THE FAILURE OCCURS AT LEAST FOUR TIMES PER DAY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING. SHE STATED THAT THE 1999 FORD TAURUS HAS SAFETY RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL AND POWER TRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COOLING UNIT LINES. THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE THE SAFETY RECALLS TO INCLUDE THE 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE PURCHASE DATE AND RECALL NUMBERS WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 115,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

NOTICED WITHIN LAST 2000 MILES THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP AND JERK WHEN DRIVING UP STEEP GRADES OR SHARP TURNS, WHEN IT WOULD ATTEMPT TO DOWNSHIFT FROM 3RD TO 2ND. IT FAILED COMPLETELY LAST NIGHT WHILE DRIVING HOME, FORTUNATELY WE WERE ONLY 3 MILES FROM OUR HOME. NOW IT WILL ONLY GO 25 MPH AND HAS A BURNING ODOR. IT HAS 103K MILES AND THE AUTO TRANS WAS SERVICED (FILTER/FLUID CHANGED) EVERY 35K MILES. WE WILL GET AN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT, HOWEVER I SUSPECT A BILL FROM $1500-2200 IS IN ORDER. ALL THE NEWS I HEARD ABOUT FORD AUTOMATICS IS NOW SUBSTANTIATED....THIS IS THE LAST FORD FOR US PERIOD. *NM

DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A CHATTERING NOISE WHEN PUTTING IT IN REVERSE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, THEY SAID THERE WAS A TORN LIP SEAL ON REVERSE ACCUMULATOR DUE TO A DEFECTIVE CUT ON TRANSMISSION CHANNEL PLATE. DT: WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE CONSUMER SLOWED DOWN AND THEN PRESSED THE GAS TO ACCELERATE BUT THE VEHICLE REVVED AND THEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON ITS OWN AND WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. THERE WAS NO FOREWARNING LIGHTS THAT CAME ON THE DASH BOARD. THIS HAPPENED ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2005, HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE 1300.00 WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY APPLIED. *AK
THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2000 FORD TAURUS SUDDENLY FAILED AS I WAS LEAVING A BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENT AND WAS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC OF A 4 LANE HIGHWAY. THERE HAD BEEN NO WARNING THAT THERE WAS A POTENTIAL PROBLEM OF ANY KIND. AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOP, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS A LITTLE OVER 52,688 MILES.

NAR 06/19/2003. *MR THE CONSUMER HAS ENCOUNTERED NUMEROUS AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. FIRST THE TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING FLUID THE BRAKES FAILED TWICE IN A YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT DOBBS FORD TWO TIMES AND BOTH PARTS WERE NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND AGAIN AFTER BEING FIXED THE BRAKES FAILED. AS A RESULT OF THE VEHICLE DEFECT THE CONSUMER HAS LOST HER CAR INSURANCE AND IS UNABLE TO PURCHASE ANYMORE BECAUSE NO OTHER COMPANY WANT TO RISK ANOTHER ACCIDENT WITH THE BRAKES. I WAS DRIVING MY 2000 FORD TAURUS SE HOME. AT THE INTERSECTION OF COLUMBIA AND MERIDIAN ROADS SOUTH OF MERIDIAN, IDAHO I PULLED OUT FROM COLUMBIA AND TURNED NORTH ONTO A BUSY MERIDIAN ROAD. I HEARD A CLUNK AND I THOUGHT THE CAR HAD POPPED OUT OF GEAR. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND FOUND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO IN ANY GEAR EXCEPT REVERSE. I FELT FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT REAR ENDED BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC THAT DAY. I HAD THE TAURUS TOWED TO AAMCO TRANSMISSION. THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND I HAD THEM REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION WHICH INCLUDED A REBUILT TORQUE CONVERTER, NEW BANDS, SPRAG CLUTCH/LOW CLUTCH, REAR SUN GEAR & DRUM, BOOST VALVE, PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID, ASSEMBLY SET, FILTER AND FLUIDS. THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE WAS 61,841 AND THE BILL CAME TO $2,162.90 LESS $100 BECAUSE...

MY 2000 FORD TAURUS WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (53,000 MILES) WHEN THE TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WROTE TO WILLIAM CLAY FORD, JR. OFFICE AND WAS TOLD IN A NICE WAY "TOO BAD SO SAD" IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY ITS SO DIFFICULT TO STAY LOYAL TO AMERICAN PRODUCTS? THE FOREIGN VEHICLES ARE WARRANTED 5-10 YEARS, WE MUST KNOW OURS ARE ONLY GOOD FOR 3 YEARS AND ONLY WARRANTY THEM FOR 3 YEARS. I HAD HOPED TO GET AT LEAST 1/2 OF MY $2,000 BILL REIMBURSED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS HAD COME ON AND STAYED ON AFTER WIGGLING THE BRAKE SWITCH, IT STARTED TO WORK (FOR 6 MONTHS), THEN ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE CONSUMER'S WIFE ATTEMPTED TO START THE IGNITION SWITCH AND IT LOCKED AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS AND WAS ABLE TO START, BUT THE TRANSMISSION WAS LOCKED IN PARK. *SCC *JB
PURCHASED A 2000 FORD TAURUS IN 2001 WITH 22,479 MILES, NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000 MILES. ON SEPT. 27TH, WHEN WIFE OF THE I WAS BACKING UP OUT OF A PARKING SPACE THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND STOPPED BACKING UP. IT TOOK ABOUT THREE ATTEMPTS FOR THE CAR TO REVERSE SUCCESSFULLY. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND CONCLUDED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY THE O-RING SEAL WHEN INSPECTED; IN ADDITION, THE DEALER FOUND DAMAGE ON REAR PISTON, TORQUE CONVERTER, AND FOUR OTHER PARTS OF THE VEHICLE. I AM SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND/OR REPAIRS OF THE DAMAGED COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE. *LA

WAS CONTACTED BUT REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR $1,985. THEIR REASON WAS BECAUSE I DID NOT CHOOSE TO HAVE THE WORK DONE AT A FORD SHOP. THE FORD QUOTE WAS $1,000 HIGHER THAN A NON-FORD SHOP. SINCE WHEN SHOULD A CUSTOMER BE PUNISHED FOR MITIGATING DAMAGES? I DID HAVE A FORD SHOP ANALYZE THE PROBLEM INITIALLY, BUT AT THAT TIME HAD NO ASSURANCE THAT FORD WOULD REIMBURSE ME, SO WHY SHOULD I SIGN UP TO PAY FORD'S HIGH REPAIR COSTS? THE ALUMINUM PARTS BEING USED IN THE TRANS. CAN'T STAND HEAT AND THEREFORE FAIL. TRANSMISSION: AT APPROXIMATELY 40800 MILES CAR HAD A NOTICEABLE SHUDDER WHILE GOING IN REVERSE. TOOK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A CRACKED CASING AS NOTED IN TSB 15559 NHTSA NUMBER (630095) CAUSED BY MISS MANUFACTURE OF A PART. WAS INFORMED DEALER OR FORD MOTOR CO. WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIR COST TO EXCEED $1495. BRAKES: REPORTED BRAKE PROBLEM ON 5/25/2001 AND 10/10/2001 WHEN IT WAS SERVER, SHAKING AND CONTROL PROBLEMS WHEN STOPPING. THE CAR JERKS AND HESITATES CONTINUOUSLY. PH
TRANSAXLE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK THE CAR TO LOCAL FORD SERVICE. THEY SAID THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS "LOCKED UP AND WOULDN'T TURN" (EVEN THOUGH I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR IN JUST FINE!). THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT. I GOT THEIR ESTIMATE ALONG WITH ESTIMATES FROM 2 OTHER AUTO REPAIR SHOPS IN TOWN. I CHOOSE A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND HAD THE CAR TOWED THERE. THEIR ESTIMATE WAS $1000 LESS THAN FORD SERVICE. THE NEW MECHANIC SAID THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO POOR DESIGN USING ALUMINUM PARTS THAT CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT. FORD REFUSES TO REIMBURSE ME CLAIMING THE DENIAL IS DUE TO MY HAVING THE REPAIR DONE BY AN INDEPENDENT TRANS. SHOP AND NOT AT FORD SERVICE WHICH WOULD HAVE COST ME $1000 MORE. I'M DENIED REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE I MITIGATED THE DAMAGES. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO FAIRNESS AND COMMON SENSE?

AFTER HAVING THE TRANSMISSION LOOKED AT AND FIXED, WE WERE TOLD BY THE MECHANICS THAT A GEAR BROKE, AS A RESULT OF POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP. AS A RESULT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DESTROYED. THERE WAS NOTHING THAT WE COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. FORD HAS A LONG HISTORY WITH FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS IN THE FORD TAURUS. FOR SOME REASON THEY ARE UNWILLING TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
