TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND THE SUBFRAME THAT HELD THE TWO REAR TIRES WAS ALSO RUSTED AND FRACTURED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT HAD TO CHANGE THE REAR TIRES MORE FREQUENTLY. THE CHECK ENGINE AND ABS LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 300,000.
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN I HEARD A LARGE CLUNK IN THE BACK OF MY CAR. I ASSUMED THAT IT WAS JUST ME HITTING A BRANCH. THE SOUND CONTINUED, BUT I WASN'T THAT FAR FROM WORK SO I KEPT DRIVING. MY CAR STARTED TO SHAKE SEVERELY AND I HAD TO FIGHT TO KEEP THE STEERING STRAIGHT, SO I IMMEDIATELY WENT AND PULLED OVER AT A GAS STATION WHERE I DISCOVERED A SEVERE FLAT. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE CAR REPAIR SHOP, WHERE I WORK, TO HAVE THE TIRE REPLACED. THEY SHOWED ME THAT THE REAR COIL SPRING HAD PUNCTURED AND DUG A GOUGE ALONG A THIRD OF THE TIRE. IT WAS VERY SCARY TO SEE HOW BADLY THE TIRE WAS DAMAGED. I LOOKED ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND WONDER WHY SOMEONE HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. *TR

I HAVE A 2000 FORD TAURUS THAT HAS THE RECALLED COIL SPRINGS ON IT. THE FRONT SPRINGS WHERE REPLACED FOR FREE OF COURSE AND NOW THE BACK ONES ARE SHOT AND MY TIRE BLEW AS A RESULT. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY FORD DOESN'T STAND BEHIND THEIR AUTOMOBILES THE COIL SPRINGS ARE THE EXACT SAME AS THE FRONT ONES, DEFECTS!!! PLEASE MAKE FORD REPLACE THEM ALL AT NO CHARGE!!! DEC 2009 I HAD TO FIGHT THE LOCAL FORD DEALER TO STAND BEHIND A RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS ON MY 2000 FORD TAURUS. NOW THE REAR COIL SPRINGS HAVE BROKEN ALSO WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND I AM TOLD I WAS LUCKY TO BE IN TOWN AND NOT THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE THE BROKEN SPRINGS PUNCTURE THE TIRES AND CAUSE ACCIDENTS. I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER ON THE INTERNET TO SEE THAT MINE IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. *TR
ON MY 2000 FORD TAURUS SEDAN, THE RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION SPRING HAS BROKEN. FORTUNATELY, IT DID NOT PUNCTURE THE TIRE, BUT MY MECHANIC SAID IT COULD HAVE AND THAT HE HAD SEEN A NUMBER OF OTHER TAURUSES WHERE THAT PRECISE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED. A SIMILAR ISSUE WAS IDENTIFIED WITH THE FRONT SPRINGS AND A RECALL WAS ISSUED TO ADD PROTECTIVE CAPS TO PREVENT A DANGEROUS CONDITION. IN ADDITION, FORD REPLACED BROKEN SPRINGS, ALTHOUGH I BELIEVE THIS WAS A CUSTOMER SERVICE CHOICE BY FORD, RATHER THAN A CONDITION OF THE RECALL. I REPORTED THE ISSUE TO FORD, BUT THOUGHT NHTSA SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AS WELL. WE LIVE IN THE GREATER CHICAGO AREA. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 FORD TAURUS AND THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE ABOUT A 1 1/2 YEARS AGO AND NOW THE REAR SPRING ON THE RIGHT SIDE HAS BROKE. WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM TO FIX THE CAR. I UNDER STAND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRINGS BUT I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. WHY IS IT FORD WON'T ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS JUST AS BAD AS THE TOYOTA'S PROBLEM. WHILE HAVING MY OIL CHANGED AT A REPAIR FACILITY, IT WAS POINTED OUT TO ME THAT BOTH REAR SUSPENSION SPRINGS ON MY 2000 FORD TAURUS ARE BROKEN IN THE SAME PLACE. I CALLED FORD TO ASK ABOUT A RECALL OR TECHNICAL BULLETIN AND THEY RESPONDED THAT THIS IS "NORMAL" WEAR AND TEAR. I DO NOT AGREE. *TR
THE REAR COIL SPRINGS ON MY 2000 FORD TAURUS ARE RUSTED AND BROKEN. I WOULDN'T TYPICALLY HAVE A PROBLEM JUST GETTING THIS REPAIRED, HOWEVER MY MECHANIC SAYS HE SEES FORD VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM ALL THE TIME (AROUND 3 A WEEK). THERE HAS ALREADY BEEN A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRINGS, AND I READ SOME PROGRESS WAS BEING MADE ON THE REAR ONES, HOWEVER FORD STILL HAS NOT RECALLED THEM. IF THIS PROBLEM IS SO PREVALENT, AND FORD IS ALREADY AWARE OF PROBLEMATIC FRONT COIL SPRINGS, THE REAR COIL SPRINGS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND TESTED FURTHER AS WELL. *TR

NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS FOR IOWA. APPROXIMATELY 97,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. LEFT REAR COIL SPRING FAILURE. LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED REAR STRUTS AND MOUNTS, AND LEFT REAR TIRE. OLD PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
2000 FORD TAURUS - REAR SPRING COILS BROKEN - IT HASN'T TAKEN LONG TO SEE THAT 1999-2002 FORD TAURUS MODELS HAVE HIGH RATES OF FAILURE IN THE REAR SUSPENSION DUE TO CORROSION OF THE REAR SPRING COILS. I JUST LEARNED THAT THE SPRING COILS ON MY 2000 FORD TAURUS HAVE BROKEN, DAMAGING THE STRUTS AND THE WALLS OF MY REAR TIRE. NOT ONLY SHOULD ALL OF THEM BE REPLACED (APPROX. INSTALLED ESTIMATE IS $700), BUT I WAS TOLD THIS COULD CAUSE A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT IF THE COIL WERE TO PUNCTURE THE TIRE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. BECAUSE THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL FOR 1999-2001 FORD TAURUS VEHICLES FOR THE COILS IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION, I WOULD APPRECIATE AN EXPLANATION OF THE JUSTIFICATION FOR FRONT SUSPENSION RECALL AND HOW THAT CASE DIFFERS SIGNIFICANTLY FROM THE REAR SUSPENSION, WHICH HAS NOT YET BEEN RECALLED. *TR
REAR RIGHT COIL SPRING BROKE IN TWO PLACES. ONE JAGGED END WAS PUSHING ITS WAY INTO THE TIRE CAUSING A 3/16TH INCH GROOVE IN THE SIDE WALL. FORTUNATELY IT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO PUNCTURE THE TIRE. CAR HAS ONLY 55,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS RARELY BEEN DRIVEN IN SALTY ROAD CONDITIONS. *TR
I AM WRITING TO YOU ABOUT MY 2000 FORD TAURUS SES. I WAS DRIVING IT OUT OF A PARKING LOT WHEN A HEARD A LOUD CRACK AND NOISES FROM THE FRONT END OF MY CAR BECAME LOUD. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND FOUND MY FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING BROKEN. LUCKILY, I HAD PUT THE PROTECTIVE SHIELD ON MY CAR, SO SPRING BREAKING DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR A FLATTENED TIRE. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER TO BE REPAIRED AS THE FRONT COIL SPRING COULD NOT BE LEFT BROKEN. WHEN THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP, BOTH FRONT COILS SPRINGS WERE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL WARRANTY, BUT THEN A PROBLEM HAPPENED THAT SINCE MY FRONT STRUTS WERE ORIGINAL, THEN WOULD NOT GO BACK IN AFTER THE COILS WERE REPLACED, WHICH THEN I HAD TO SPEND $200.00 TO GET NEW STRUTS BECAUSE OF THE COIL...
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED EXCESSIVELY AND PERFORMED ABNORMALLY. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE EXPLODED WITHOUT WARNING. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE REAR SUSPENSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND ALL FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 23,500.

BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE AT MAYBE 1 MPH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE PUNCTURING THE TIRE ON MY 2000 TAURUS. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL (ALTHOUGH POORLY WORDED) FOR THAT BUT THERE IS NO RECALL THE REAR COIL SPRINGS AND THE DRIVER SIDE REAR COIL SPRING APPARENTLY BROKE BEFORE SINCE THERE IS RUST AT THE FRACTURE. I HAD A SHOP TAKE CARE OF THE WORK AND IT LOOKS LIKE FORD MAY NOT BE WILLING TO PAY FOR ANY OF IT. THE SERVICE PEOPLE AT SHEEHY FORD IN GAITHERSBURG SAID THEY CERTAINLY WILL NOT PAY FOR THE REAR SPRINGS AND ASSOCIATED COSTS BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECALL, YET IT APPEARS THAT THE REAR SPRINGS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM (EXCEPT THE REAR SPRING FRACTURE DID NOT PUNCTURE MY TIRE). ONE OF THE THREE TIMES WAS WHEN THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE SPRING BROKE (WHICH THERE IS A RECALL ON THE FRONT BY NOT THE REAR). (I DO HAVE THE PARTS FROM THE SPRING REPAIR). LOUD "CLUNKING EXPLOSION" SOUND FROM REAR AND CAR HANDLING WAS AFFECTED. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND FOUND I HAD 3 BROKEN COIL SPRINGS-- 2 OF WHICH HAD BEEN BROKEN FOR A LONG TIME. ONE ON THE FRONT, WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER RECALL AND BOTH BACK SPRINGS. FRONT SPRING WAS COVERED IN RECALL, BUT FROM WHAT I'VE FOUND ONLINE JUST AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR SPRINGS. CHARGED OVER $600 IN REPAIR TO GET 2 NEW REAR SPRINGS INSTALLED, BUT STILL HAVE RATTLING PROBLEMS AFTERWARDS. CAR IS DRIVEN EXTREMELY LIGHTLY AND THE FINAL BREAKAGE HAPPENED WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AT APX 5MPH. *TR

HAD THEM REPLACED AT A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP ON 07/15/2008 WAS INFORMED AS WELL THAT ONE REAR SPRING WAS BROKEN. NOT COVERED UNDER 04M04B THEY ARE THE SAME SPRINGS AS THE FRONT!!!!! SO STRUTS NEED TO BE FIXED FIRST TO THE TUNE OF $1000, WHICH I DON'T HAVE. APPARENTLY, THIS IS COMMON IN TAURUSES, AND FORD SHOULD BE OFFERING TO PAY SOME OR ALL OF THE REPAIRS. *TR

THE DAY OF THE REPAIR THE CAR SEEMED A BIT TILTED AND MADE A FUNNY NOISE. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WAS TOLD BOTH REAR COILS WERE BROKEN. BOTH FRONT COILS HAD BEEN REPLACED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND ALSO RESULTED IN A RUPTURED TIRE. CURRENT COSTS ESTIMATED AROUND 600 DOLLARS. THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THE FRONT COIL RECALL, BUT INVOLVES THE SAME FAULTY PART. *TR

TODAY OUR FORD SERVICE SHOP INFORMED US WE HAVE A BROKEN REAR COIL SPRING. THE COIL MUST BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE STRUT. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN A PORTION OF THE BROKEN SPRING COMING LOOSE AND PUNCTURING THE REAR TIRE. OBVIOUSLY, A TIRE BLOWOUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IS DANGEROUS. WE HAD THE SPRING REPLACED. DURING THE PROCESS, THE REPAIRMAN INDICATED FORD HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS FOR EXACTLY THIS REASON. THE REPAIR MAN EXPLAINED THAT THE SPRINGS ON BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR OF THE CAR ARE EXACTLY THE SAME. FAILURE OF ANY OF THOSE SPRINGS COULD RESULT IN A BLOWN TIRE. I ASKED HIM WHY FORD HAD NOT THEN RECALLED ALL THE SPRINGS SINCE A) THEY ARE THE SAME PART; B) FAILURE RESULTS IN THE SAME DANGEROUS CONDITION. HE COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR COIL SPRING FAILED AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HE DROVE TO A SERVICE STATION AND HAD THE TIRE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS ON THE VEHICLE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,223 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,221.
I WAS DRIVING 30MPH ON A FRIDAY WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. I MADE A SERVICE CALL TO COME AND CHANGE MY TIRE TO THE SPARE. ONCE I WAS AT THE REPAIR SHOP TO GET A NEW TIRE, THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO CAUSE THE BLOW OUT. THE REAR SPRING COIL HAD BUSTED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND LACERATED THE TIRE. MY CAR WAS DEEMED UNSAFE AND I WAS WITHOUT IT FOR A FULL WEEKEND BECAUSE THE REPAIRS COULDN'T BE MADE UNTIL MONDAY. NOT ONLY DID I HAVE TO REPLACE THE REAR SPRING COILS, BUT ALSO THE STRUTS, SWAY LINK BAR, AND A NEW TIRE FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF $986. I ALSO HAD THE FRONT SPRING COILS REPLACED (BECAUSE ONE WAS CRACKED) 13 MONTHS EARLIER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GET INSPECTED WHEN HE NOTICED THE REAR SPRING WAS FAULTY. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SPRINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 31,000. UPDATED 02/01/08. *LJ UPDATED 02/01/08 *TR

THERE WERE NO PREVIOUS FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. IT FAILED THE NY STATE INSPECTION DUE TO THE CRACKED SUSPENSION SYSTEM. WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT OR GOING OVER BUMPS SOUNDED LIKE ITEMS WERE SHIFTING OR CLUNKING IN THE TRUNK. EVERYTHING TAKEN OUT OF THE TRUNK AND THE NOISE CONTINUED. THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS LOOKED AT AND FOUND TO HAVE LOOSE REAR SWAY BAR LINKS. THE SWAY BAR WAS REPLACED. *NM

I WAS ATTEMPTING A LANE CHANGE AT 75 MPH THE REAR END OF THE CAR CAME AROUND. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE REAR OF THE CAR SLIDES VERY EASILY, I FEEL THIS IS AN ENGINEERING FLAW.
