The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the oxygen sensor replaced. The contact stated that the oxygen sensor had been replaced four times previously however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact to call the NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
The check engine light came on and I immediately took it to the local Hunt Ford dealer. Upon inspection, there was leaking of coolant into the cylinders and now the engine has to be replaced. The total cost for repairs is approximately $8300. I'm told that the problem has been corrected in the new engines. After talking with Ford Service and a local car repair shop in Franklin, KY, I learned that this is a common problem with Fusions and Escapes and both have replaced many motors. Unfortunately, my car has not been recalled nor was I made of the widespread problem through Ford (my engine is a 1.5-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine). I have done further research into the matter and I'm shocked and disappointed that Ford has not been transparent with consumers about this matter. The car recently misfired 3 times. I took into get oil change and have the misfire checked into. The misfires started 11/4/21. Car would run rough and then stall out. It would sit for a minute or two and start and run fine. There were no check engine lights or gage to show the car was running hot. I never dreamed it was a cracked cylinder. The Dealer performed EEC test diagnosis and found previous misfies in cylinder 1 in mode 6 of PCM. Found coolant level low, pressure tested cooling system and found that cylinder 1 with coolant intrusion. Short block replacement. I see online that there have been recalls on 2013 -2014 Ford Fusion and other 2013-2015 vehicles for this exact problem of a lack of coolant circulation causing an engine to overheat resulting in a crack in the cylinder head. The Car is making a sloshing sound in the engine, runs hot and will lose power due to overheating. This happen to me, forcing me to exit off the interstate (thank goodness I was near an exit). The check engine light also came on. Once the car cooled down (approx 45min) I was able to street drive home and have never been able to drive the car since. The code the car displayed once checked was P302/P1299. After looking online discovering a manufacturing defect from Ford causing coolant intrusion with this vehicles engine, I then got the vehicle towed to the dealership thinking the TSB (technical service bulletin) would cover the repairs needed (new engine long block) but it does not per Ford. I was driving home from work at 10:30p. I pulled out of the parking lot at work when I lost power in the motor. Traffic was flowing and almost got T-bones. Right before I pulled it off the road it started to jerk like I was riding a bull. In the parking lot I shut it off and looked under the hood and checked everything but everything looked good. Started it back up and it started to run fine. So the next day it over heated took it to Ford and told them what was going on. 2015 Ford Fusion SE 1.5L ecoboost While driving I have had loss of engine power posing risk in traffic. I refilled coolant and the misfire in cyl 1 inspired spark plug replacement. The problem recurs and I discover coolant in these engines has (secretly) known defect since 08 leaking into engine. At over 5 years though under 60K mi, Ford will not help / address the problem. Just did 3rd spark plug replacement and googled up the defect. Would love to get (long not short) engine replacement like other models have received with this. Would expect to get al least the reprogramming or other ideas for mitigation help from Ford.

2015 Ford Fusion SE with 99k miles, well maintained and only two owners. Driving car down highway and engine begins to shudder. Pulled over as check engine lights were flashing and engine in critical condition. Had to tow car to nearest Ford delearship which is Maxwell Ford in South Austin, Texas. Ford mechanics determined it was MISS FIRE ON CYLINDER 2 VALVE BROKEN IN CYLINDER HEAD and need complete engine reassembly. Ford quoted $7,871.21 for a new engine block. Car not under warranty and they did not offer to pay. Also charged $238.07 to evac the AC. Reading about hundreds of complaints across carcomplaints (https://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Fusion/2015/engine/engine-2.shtml) as well as the current class action lawsuit that was filed in December 2020 (https://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Fusion/2015/engine/engine-2.shtml).
Overheated warning light flashed then went off when car was cooled down for 45 mins and then started right up and no warning light was ever seen again to come on then drove car 30 miles next morn car wouldn't start.checked engine coolant and it was all gone no visible leak.. no warning light Refilled coolant car tried to start and put out white smoke from tailpipe. Car started barely and was rough running again no warning light showing drove car to mechanic and he said car engine was blown .. so looked on different forums and found that the Ford fusion and Ford escape motors the 1.5 liter was a real lemon and the overheat light warning of low coolant or overheating of engine has had problems for several years on these 2 vehicles that had the 1.5 engine in them .. you can no longer buy the 1.5...
I have received a message on my dashboard regarding 1. Engine Coolant Over Temperature 2. Power Reduced to Lower Engine Temperature. I have taken the car to a repair shop Thursday and Friday. I believe car is a lemon. Have had the vehicle for only 17 days. I can’t keep calling off work due to non operational vehicle. I would like to get this issue resolved or otherwise I would not be able to pay my car note
Took car in to ford dealership to have check engine light assessed. Was told there was a coolant leakage through the #1 cylinder and I would need to have the motor replaced. I was quoted $7100.

The contact related the failure to an unknown technical service bulletin. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
My 2015 Ford Fusion is having an issue where the coolant is leaking into the cylinders. I had new spark plugs and coils replaced twice in less than a week because of this issue because they broke. It’s an issue I have read that a lot of Ford fusions have but no recall has been issued. To fix this problem, Ford gave me an estimate of over $8000 and it should be fixed by ford since it’s a revolving issue with certain models.

Car idles rough and almost stalls causing a safety issue. The problem is a bad block. Coolant leaks into the cylinders causing the car to lose power and smoke out the exhaust. The problem was diagnosed by a local auto repair shop. No check engine lights or warnings came on the dash.
I WALKED OUTSIDE ONE MORING TO START MY CAR AND THERE WAS A PROLONGED CRANKING TO TURN THE ENGINE OVER, RIGHT AWAY AFTER PUTTING IT IN DRIVE THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER, ALSO A HESITATION THAT WAS NEVER THERE BEFORE. CHECK ENIGNE LIGHT CAME ONE. HAD IT SCANNED SURE ENOUGH MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 3 (P0303). WHITE SMOKE WXITING FROM EXHAUST AT START UP. VERY SLOW TO GET UP TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS. DONT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE.

JUST GOT THIS FORD VEHICLE A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AND FOR SOME REASON MY CAR WOULDN'T START. I RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND HAD NUMEROUS CODES P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0030, C0014, P0047, P0141, AND A FEW OTHERS. I LOOKED FOR LOOSE WIRES, CHECKED FUSES, PLUGS ETC. THE ONLY THING AT THIS POINT I NOTICED WAS TWO CRACKED SPARK PLUGS, SO I REPLACED ALL OFF THEM. AFTER THAT THE CAR STARTED SO I THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED. CLOSED THE HOOD TURNED THE CAR TO OFF, THEN TRIED TO START IT AGAIN. IT DID NOT START. SO I CHECKED ALL THE FLUIDS AND SEEN THE ANTIFREEZE DISAPPEARED, I HAD PREVIOUSLY FILLED IT. I LOOKED FOR ANY VISIBLE LEAKS, PUDDLES, AND CHECKED FOR WET CARPET AND FOUND NOTHING. I WENT AND BOUGHT ANOTHER LARGE JUG OF ANTIFREEZE PUT IT IN AND WATCHED IT ALL DISAPPEAR BEFORE MY EYES. MY WARRANTY WITH THE VEHICLE WAS FOR 60,000 MILES, AT 62,000 MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED IT WAS LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE CYLINDER BLOCK AND THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. FORD DENIED MY REQUEST FOR ANY ASSISTANCE IN THE REPAIR.

LESS THAN 2 YEARS LATER WITH THE NEW ENGINE THE SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING AGAIN, BUT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY TO REPLACE. THIS HAS NOT ONLY HAPPENED TO ME, BUT THERE ARE COUNTLESS OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. TOOK MY CAR BACK INTO FORD AND WAS TOLD I HAVE COOLANT INTRUSION AGAIN AND THAT MY ENGINE NEEDS REPLACED A SECOND TIME.

I CHECKED AFTER GETTING THE MESSAGE AND COOLANT TANK WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE LEAK WHERE I HAD PARKED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF A COOLANT AND LEAK AND THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
8/15/2019 MY SON TOOK MY CAR TO AUTO CLINIC OF BOCA RATON INC.=COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC SCAN, NO CHARGE=REPLACED CYLINDER TO IGNITION COIL-TOTAL WAS $90.95(12MONTH OR 12,000MILES LIM. WARTY.). ON 10/24/2019 MY SON TOOK MY CAR TO THE GRAYCO FORD OF DELRAY BEACH FOR RECALLS. ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON,THEY WANTED $TO FIND OUT Y THE LIGHT WAS ON. SO MY SON LEFT &ON HIS NEXT DAY OFF HE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE AUTO CLINIC AGAIN. THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN=FREE&THIS TIME=REPLACED CYLS.1,3&4 IGNITION/COILS= $272.85 THIS TIME MILEAGE IN & OUT WAS 53,473. MY SON MILEAGE IN FOR MY CAR AT GRAYCO FORD OF DELRAY BEACH WAS 54,824 ON 10/24/19. MOTOR WAS UNDER WARRANTY UP UNTIL 60,000 MILES. SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WOULDN'T OF LOOKED AT THAT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR THE MOTOR OF MY CAR FOR MY SON WHO WAS AWAY AT COLLEGE IN FLORIDA FOR 3YRS....

EARLIER THIS YEAR IN FEBRUARY, VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. AFTER ANOTHER ATTEMPT WAS ABLE TO GET CAR TO ACCELERATE AND MADE IT HOME. CAR WAS SHAKING AND SMOKE COMING FROM TAILPIPE. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE DUE TO COOLANT LEAKING INTO ENGINE. HAD ENGINE REPLACED AND NOW 8 MONTHS LATER, I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. CAR IS SHAKING UPON START AND ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. FORD HASN'T DECLARED A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, EVEN AFTER MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS BEING A KNOWN PROBLEM.

THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT CYLINDER #2 AND THE ENGINE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,000.

ENGINE WENT OUT AT 5 YEARS AND 90000 MILES. ONE OF NUMEROUS 1.5 L FORD ENGINES IN THE SHOP AT THAT TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2015 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE RPM WAS REDLINED. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED TO PARK HOWEVER, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATED THAT HILL START ASSIST WAS NOT AVAILABLE. IN ADDITION, THE REAR LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR THE REAR LIGHTS TO TURN OFF. THE CONTACT HAD A CERTIFIED MECHANIC TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY SURGED CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED TALLAHASSEE FORD (243 N MAGNOLIA DR, TALLAHASSEE, FL 32301) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE MANUFACTURER FIELD SERVICE ACTION: 13N03 (THROTTLE BODY EXTENDED COVERAGE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 128,000.
CAR IS AROUND 80,000 MILES AND HAS COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE CYLINDERS. PREVIOUSLY I HAD SOME MISFIRE CODES COMING THROUGH AND HAD THE SPARK PLUGS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROUGH IDLE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT PERIODICALLY WOULD COME BACK ON. A FEW DAYS AGO THE CAR INFORMED ME THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I REFILLED THE COOLANT TO THE CORRECT LEVEL AND CHECKED BACK THE NEXT DAY. THE COOLANT WAS BELOW THE MINIMUM LINE AGAIN SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS WHEN THEY DEALERSHIP TOLD ME ABOUT THE NEED FOR AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT
WE HAVE NOW EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL DEFECT IN THE ENGINE IN THIS CAR TWO TIMES. COOLANT IS LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE CAUSING IT TO FAIL THE FIRST TIME AND NOW TRIGGERING CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS THAT THE DEALERSHIP STATES WILL REQUIRE THE ENGINE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN MEANING IT WILL BE THE THIRD ENGINE IN A 5 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 55000 MILES. THE FIRST ISSUE OCCURRED IN APRIL 2019. THE CAR ENGINE STOPPED WHILE BEING DRIVEN ON A SUBURBAN PARKWAY CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION TO PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC. IT NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THE ENGINE HAD BURNED OFF ALL THE COOLANT AND WHEN TESTED THE DEALERSHIP STATED COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE 41,000 MILES ON THE CAR SO THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY. SINCE THEN WE HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR 14,000 MILES IN 18 MONTHS...
ENGINE COOLANT IS BEING CONSUMED BY THE ENGINE LEADING TO UNSAFE ENGINE OVERHEATING. THIS INTERNAL LEAK OCCURS DURING ALL DRIVING SITUATIONS.
ENGINE STARTING ROUGH THEN EVENING OUT. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP. WAS TOLD THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO CYLINDER MAKING FOR INITIAL ROUGH IDLE. SERVICE BULLETIN SAYS TO REPLACE ENGINE. WE HAD THEM TEAR DOWN THE ENGINE TO CONFIRM IT WAS NOT A HEAD GASKET. RESULTS NEGATIVE. SO, HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED FOR $6800.00
ENGINE RAN ROUGH ON START UP, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALER WHO TOLD ME COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO #3 CYLINDER AND ENGINE WOULD NEED REPLACED, MILEAGE ON CAR IS 64,441. IT LOOKS LIKE FORD HAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THIS 1.5 ENGINE AS MY PROBLEM IS NOT A ISOLATED PROBLEM.
IN AUG 2020 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2015 FORD FUSION AFTER IT STARTED ROUGH. I BROUGHT IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. THEY SAID THE SPARK PLUGS AND COILS SHOULD BE REPLACED (CHECK ENGINE CODE WAS P0303, CYLINDER MISFIRE). A MONTH LATER THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE MGR SAID 'OH, THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE FUSION ECOBOOST ENGINES. COOLANT LEAKS INTO THE CYLINDERS AND DAMAGES THEM. HE SAID THE DESIGN OF THE ENGINE BLOCK HAS SCORE GROOVES BETWEEN THE CYLINDERS EVENTUALLY CAUSING THE LEAK AND CORROSION TO START. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO INFORM ME THAT THE LONG BLOCK AND HEAD GASKET WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THE STARTING COST WOULD $5,000+. BUT LIKELY CLOSER TO $7000. FURTHER HE SAID FORD WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT NOT RECALLING OR COVERING THE REPLACEMENT COST. HE SAID HE HAD...
AFTER 5 YEARS, HEAD GASKET LEAK INTO CYLINDER. FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THROUGH SEVERAL TSB'S ON THIS KNOWN ISSUE. FORD HAS PUT OUT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM TO CHANGE COMPUTER SETTING TO PREVENT THIS DAMAGE FROM OCCURRING. THIS COVERS 2014-2017 FUSION MODELS WITH 1.5L ENGINES, HOWEVER THEY LEFT OUT SOME VIN NUMBERS THAT THE DIDN'T THINK WOULD HAVE THIS ISSUE. MINE HAS THE EXACT ISSUE AS DESCRIBED IN THEIR TSB'S AND PROGRAM. THEY DIDN'T NOTIFY EVERYONE WHICH CAUSED THE DAMAGED HEAD GASKET. THEY ARE NOT OFFERING TO WARRANTY THEIR DEFECT AND THE DAMAGE DONE FROM THAT DEFECT.

I HAVE A 2015 FORD FUSION SE ECOBOOST CURRENTLY AROUND 76000 MILES. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. THE SCAN HAD REPORTED A CYLINDER MISFIRE DUE FOR A SPARK PLUG CHANGE ALONG WITH A COIL CHANGE. MADE THE REPLACEMENTS DAY AFTER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS CORRECTED. GOT IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP. WAITED FOR ALMOST A WEEK FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE CAR, COME TO FIND OUT MY CAR IS IN NEED OF A NEW ENGINE. THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE COOLANT WAS BEING 'EATEN BY THE ENGINE' AND THERE WAS NO WAY TO FIND OUT WHERE IN THE ENGINE WAS THE LEAK. 'EXCESSIVE MOISTURE COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO COMBUST IF DRIVEN IN THIS CONDITION'. 'THE ENGINE WAS ABSORBING...
TL* THE CONTACT CALLED ON BEHALF OF HIS SISTER WHO OWNS A 2015 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS SISTER WAS DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE NEW ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. MY 2015 FORD FUSION OVERHEATED WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF TURNING IT ON AND DRIVING ONTO THE FREEWAY. THE COOLANT HAD COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED AND THE CAR STOPPED MOVING. EVEN AFTER REFILLING THE COOLANT, NO CHANGE IN THERMOSTAT AND STILL NOT DRIVABLE. UPON GETTING IT TOWED AND GETTING IT DELIVERED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN TOWN. IT TOOK 6 DAYS FOR THE TEAM TO DIAGNOSE IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. THE ENGINE ITSELF WAS EATING AWAY THE COOLANT AND WAS CONTAINING WATER/MOISTURE PRESSURE WITHIN THE ENGINE. NOT DRIVABLE, AND IN NEED OF A NEW ENGINE.
CAR STARTED LEAKING COOLANT IN MAY, BUT NO VISIBLE SIGN OF LEAKING. CAR NEVER OVERHEATED AND KEPT COOLANT AT APPROPRIATE LEVEL. CAR WOULD OCCASIONALLY MISFIRE ON STARTUP AND WOULD HAVE CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE. ONE DAY CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN AND LEFT HIGHWAY. TOOK TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND NEEDED A NEW ENGINE.
