2016 FORD F-150 Power Train Problems

I am experiencing the same shifting problems that caused the recall in the 2014 F150 trucks with the 6r80 transmission. Sudden downshifts, limp mode, etc.

I was driving down the road going about 60mph and all of a sudden my transmission information on my instrument cluster started glitching like my 1-6 and my D for drive was flickering and just disappeared warning sign came up said see owner's manual next thing I know my transmission shifted from six gear down to first gear and locked up my back tires luckily I released the gas pedal right when I noticed it was glitching I think that might of helped a little before it dropped down in gear major safety risk I'm happy I was not on the interstate or hauling anything

It happen several times. I was driving at the 50 - 60 mile per hour. The transmissions unexpectedly downshift to first gear and the RPM when above 5-6K. I have to switch the gear to neutral and pull over to the side of the road. Then turn off the engine and turn it back on. The problem seems to go away for a few days. Then it happen again. It's very dangerous when this happen.

Driver side door some times will not close and have to lock and unlock the door to get it to close, and transmission is making hard gear changes.....

Vehicle randomly shifts into 1st or 2nd gear while driving at highway speeds. the wheels lock up and skid, then enters into limp mode. After the incident, the vehicle displays a "check manual," "Blind Spot Detection," and "Cross-Traffic Sensor" light display. After a few minutes in limp mode, the vehicle will correct itself and begin driving normally. This happens 70% of the times i drive the vehicle. I have taken it to the ford dealer 3 separate times. The warranty company won't fix it because when they drive it, it doesn't recreate the issue, and they tell me to keep driving it until the transmission goes out completely.

Shuddering when going 40 miles per hour to 80 miles per hour

When traveling at a higher rate of speed (30-60mph) the truck tries to downshift into a lower gear by itself. When this happens, the truck lurches back and forth and makes a grinding noise, the RPM will increase for the second or so that this is happening. This problem is very sporadic.

Driving down the expressway at 70 mph, vehicle gear light indicators started to flash between gears, and vehicle abruptly entered limp-home mode and downshifted to 3rd gear, causing the vehicle to aggressively decelerate to the point of the back wheels squealing. If another car was in standard following distance, it would have been a certain accident.

While driving at high speed, the transmission suddenly downshifted into first gear. This resulted in a near loss of control. From looking online, it appears there was a recall for prior model years related to the same problem.

The issues I have had with my 2016 Ford F150 appear to be related to the 6R80 transmission installed in the vehicle. I have experienced unexpected and unwarranted downshifting at highway speeds to lower gears causing the vehicle to decelerate significantly while in motion with traffic. This issue can then cause the vehicle to not start after pulling over to inspect the vehicle. This issue has been reproduced on at least five separate occasions over a two month period. I am attempting to seek repairs for this safety issue through an authorized Ford dealer and have been told there is a several month wait for transmission service due to the amount of other people having transmission issued as well.

While driving down XXX (XXX in Auburn Hills), a wrench light came on the dash in my truck and started experiencing acceleration issues. I also could no longer see that I was in Drive mode (vs P, R, N, etc.). After I got off the expressway and slowed down at the first light, I noticed it was hard to accelerate again and took some time to begin shifting thru the gears. Once I made it to my destination and turned off the truck, it would not restart, no engine turnover whatsoever. Truck had defective lead frame assembly in transmission , caused wheels to lockup when downshifted to first while traveling at 65 mph. Ford says no recall, had to pay $1700 for transmission repair of lead frame , and every tire was flat spotted and had to be changed as well. And cost me $700 in towing fees.

The recall currently on the 2014 F-150 our 2016 is doing the same thing. It randomly shifts down into lower gears or won't shift at all. Or it will go into 6th gear and not move.

On Sunday July 21st I was driving my F-150 when the check engine light came on. I took the car to an autoparts store for diagnostic check. The codes that came back are P0707 and P0706. On the drive home from the auto parts store the car slammed into first gear on a back road, then would not go back into gear when placed in park, then back in drive. I was able to turn off the ignition and restart the vehicle. At that time the vehicle did go back in to gear but was not behaving normally. The lead frame on my vehicle is faulty, and will randomly switch into manual mode (it's an automatic transmission) while driving on the highway. This causes it to downshift to low gears while I'm driving on the highway. I'm driving 65+ on the highway and suddenly the vehicle downshifts to 2nd gear and I have to slam on the brakes. The engine light only comes on when the issue happens then goes back off until it happens again. Ford dealership confirmed that this is related to the lead frame and suggested it be replaced. From what I've read online, this is such a common issue that replacement lead frames for this model year have been on back order for several years, yet no recall has been issued for this model year, only the previous generation. My vehicle is currently in the shop so I don't have a repair invoice yet.

My vehicle started making a rattling noise I took it to a ford dealership and they said the can phasers need to be replaced i saw online that there was a recalled for the 2017-2019 models that were made between march 10th 2016 to November 30th 2019 my specific vehicle was made in the Dearborn factory where the issue was recalled march 9th of 2016 and I think that my year and model should also be under the recall because I don’t find it coincidental that my truck was built in the factory the day before the recall date and is having they same exact issue as the same make and models.

Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The service center scanned the truck and recorded the error codes. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The transmission shifted erratically and the gear indicator on the dash blinked. After the sudden downshift the check engine and see service manual light came on.

Transmission does not shift into gear when idle and pushing in the gas pedal. Truck randomly shuts off when at stop lights and have to restart it. Transmission shifts randomly into different gears at different speeds while driving. Transmission struggles to shift into gear and when it does the whole truck shakes and loud clunk noises happens. Cruise control speeds go up and down while driving and engine has trouble shifting into gears to keep up speed.

I was driving around 70 mhp and my truck shifted from 6th to 4th and back to sixth... I had to take it to the shop and it was a bad output shaft sensor code p0720. This new recall about the 2014s ford f150 sounded to similar to what my truck did.. I am hoping my truck is fixed and not another issue that is going to get me into a wreck.

Vehicle is exhibiting issues consistent with the recalled lead frame part on previous year models, despite my 2016 having the same transmission as they do. Truck will randomly downshift into first at slower speeds causing engine to rev very high and not want to shift into next gear. Often times it will get “stuck” in 3rd gear even when coming to a complete stop and leaving a stop in 3rd still. On one occasion the truck shuddered and began to decelerate even as the accelerator was being pressed on the highway causing a significant safety issue, I had to put in neutral and restart the truck while still driving to regain forward mobility of the vehicle. When these things occur typically a little gear wrench symbol will appear on the dash and on one occasion has raised a check engine light with code P0720.

Transmission range sensor malfunction. Truck would downshift into unknown gear while driving. Similar issues to the 2014 F-150 recall that is currently happening. If truck “forgets” what gear it is in, it will not start at times leaving me stranded until the truck “remembers” it was in park.

Transmission started shifting eratacely eventually went out in 2023 replaced late or early 2024, transmission still exhibiting same problems,biggest problem is not shifting out of 5th gear when coming to a stop.have to shut off truck to disable safe mode,doesn't always work.code is 720,721,723

I believe the recent recall for 2014 F-150 transmission issue are not limited to 2014. On Friday [XXX], I was traveling in my 2016 F-150 in Kingston On, Canada, when my truck violently downshifted. I was driving at approx 90kph when this happened. I was towing a lightweight utility trailer at the time the rear wheel of the truck fishtailed slightly and the rpm when to around 5000-6000rpm, I do not know what gear the truck downshifted too. I ordered and replaced the transmission Conductor (Leadframe) myself. Part: Dorman 926-149. See attached photo of engine codes recorded after the incident. My truck is downshifting to 1st gear while driving. If I happen to be in cruise control the truck will just coast and the dash display will flicker, then go back to 6th gear. If I give it gas, then it will almost come to an abrupt stop or if I am out of cruise, it will come rev up and almost come to a stop. I am afraid to drive it because it may cause me to get rear ended. This has happened several times usually in the same section of the road but not limited to it.

Coolant leak on turbo cooling lines both sides. Rubber seal is faulty resulting in coolant leak. Driver side turbo and passenger side turbo alike.

The truck went into limp mode while driving in the highway and did a hard shift down. The truck almost crashed due to the sudden problem. The code that came up was P0706 and P0707. From what I understand, Ford has had problems with this in previous years. The problem still occurs with my truck model as well.

Lead frame faulty causing transmission issues. Downshifting while driving or getting stuck in lower gear.

When I’m driving my truck’s transmission wants to down shift to first gear at highway speeds making the rear wheels lock up doing 60 plus mph at random times and ford is aware of the issue this could have put me and my small children in a car accident I could only imagine what a first time driver would do

When driving the transmission will shift to different settings forcing the rear wheels to lock up and sending the truck into limp mode. The wrench light will appear for a short amount of time and the truck will go back to running like normal. I was told by the dealer the Transmission Lead Frame needs to be replaced and my vehicle is currently in the shop facing a $1500 repair. I had the power train control module replaced a few weeks ago because the truck had similar problems but not to the extreme of what I faced yesterday [XXX]. This has happened quiet a bit I'm driving on the highway going 75mph set my cruise control and I go to pass or up a hill and the truck engine and tranny light start flashing the truck losses power it won't go even when u push petal to floor it also spits and sputters if u turn of the cruise control put the car n neutral and shut it off then back on it stops this seems to b an constant thing there's no engine light or tranny lights on after it happens it
