I took my car into the mechanic after the coolant was filled up multiple times and they diagnosed it as coolant leaking into cly 2. This is a major defect in the engine design that is a known issue with this type of vehicle.
Engine randomly stalls when pulling out into traffic. This has happened on at least 10 occasions in the last year, and 3 or 4 of those were extremely dangerous situations. Many parts have been replaced, but nothing has solved the problem. There are no codes or check engine lights, and since it only happens randomly, the service centers have not been able to reproduce the problem. There is no advance warning when this is going to happen. There are tons of similar reports that can be easily found with a google search of "2013 Ford Escape 1.6 stalling", but none have a clear fix. 1000's of these cars are on the road, and are ticking time bombs just waiting to cause an accident.
Coolant leak occurring from the engine.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that upon inspection, the contact became aware that the coolant level was being consumed very quickly. In addition, the contact became aware of an unusual burning odor and saw white smoke coming from under the hood. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the coolant had leaked into the engine and that the long block needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
While driving down the road the passenger seat floorboard began to fill with brown liquid (Coolant) the temperature of the vehicle increased and a distinct burning smell was coming from the engine compartment. Within 30 minutes (when I arrived home) the coolant tank was empty, and with the hood raised the burning smell was much stronger. The interior on the passenger side of my vehicle is ruined

I have done research along with my mechanic and have found that models just like mine or are the titaniums, have the Shutter problem that I am having with mine that are due to the torque converter in the transmission once the vehicle hits 150,000 miles or more. Due to the fact that this is a common problem, I think it should be considered as a recall instead of having to pay $6,000 to have the transmission replaced or are forced to trade the vehicle in before 200,000 miles because the person does not have $6,000 just laying around! It seems to happen with the models that have the turbo & eco boost in them.
MY COOLANT IS LEAKING, i HAVE ALREADY FIXED THIS ONCE. WHY HAVEN'T I GOTTEN A RECALL LETTER ON THIS?
I bought the vehicle and February of 2020 and didn’t even have it for 6 months before it needed major repairs. In any other state, lemon laws would have applied and I wouldn’t be driving a dangerous vehicle. This model should not be on the market anymore, period. There have been countless failures: the transmission has been changed 3 times in less than 3 years, the purge valve has been changed twice and is going bad again, which has caused more problem for the engine cooling system. A coolant hose EXPLODED just yesterday, which I had changed not even 3 months ago. The electrical system has been “fixed” by countless mechanics, including Ford, and continues to malfunction and I assume is showing incorrect codes or not showing them at all, as there was NO ENGINE HEATING ICON that appeared prior to the hose exploding, as would normally be expected. Every...
My 2013 Ford Escape SEL FWD has been having warning light to "check engine" for a while. Mechanic read a misfire and changed thing. As it continued, Mechanic said computer needed to be "flashed" since it was not an engine problem they found. It went into check engine between 48-55 mph. Later the engine just quit with hot engine warning and antifreeze was empty. Refilled, drove home. The car continually runs our of fluid without obvious signs of leakage. This antifreeze problem continues, occasionally we see smoke from the engine but cannot find a source when we pull over to look. Smells like antifreeze. The car can drive 50-60 miles on a full antifreeze reservoir before getting too hot. I see multiple concerns over this issue but no recall.
Engine Stalls while driving down the road at low RPMs This is a known problem with 2013 Escapes but only limited number of Recalls were given. Very dangerous
It wouldn't steer it ran hot it stalls everytime I was on hwy system fail to warning system not display not updated
Coolant leaked into the cyclinder heads, causing overheating, misfiring and engine damage that necessitates a full engine replacement.
Constant coolant leak and not sure where the coolant is going. Have replaced the reservior, valve cover gasket, cylinder head and valves, coolant level bottle sensor, coolant thermostat, and engine coolant temperature sensor. Check engine light is still on and Coolant is still leaking and engine overheating. Can't find where the leakage is and there is no visible evidence on the floor of the garage. Losing coolant obvious because the level is low ever 2-3 days of highway driving. Car will shut down because of the overheating. Mechanic doesn't know what else to do. Car was purchased on June 4, 2024. Have not received the title or license plates. Tried to return it to the company who sold it to me; however, owner of the company refused to refund my money.
*car shakes as it brakes *coolant leaks (i see in the ford escape recalls there is one for coolant leaking) *upon opening doors it feel a slight stuck before opening. the doors don’t feel intact properly. *rubbers around windows appear loose. windows may not be secured.

Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle sputtered. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion and engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 189,000.
Coolant leak
I did a $1,500 down payment for a 2013 Ford Escape at Hurley's Salvage and Auto Sales in Amory Ms. I test drove the vehicle and informed the sales agent that there were problems with the windows going up or down, the interior lights didn't work, the sideview mirror control didn't work, and that a high pitched squeaking noise was coming from under the hood. I was told to bring the vehicle back for repairs on the windows, interior lights, and sideview mirrors after I got a free check of the fuses. Because they were too busy to do so. I was told that the squeaking came from the vehicle not being in use for awhile. 2 weeks later I took the vehicle back and told them the results (showed the results of a test ran on the fuses and everything was good with the fuses). I was told it...
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the throttle body assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 13N03. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 36,780.
I own a 2013 Ford escape SEL, and I have had a continuous coolant leak for over a year now. Codes from computer reading have come back as spark plugs and cylinders misfiring. I have taken it to a licensed repair shop. They have informed me that they could not find a coolant leak within the cooling and radiator system. However, after personal research and additional information from, my mechanic, I have come to realize that other issues within the Ford escape 2013 1.6 L eco-boost engine, our part of the problem. In my opinion, the Ford Motor Company has neglected to acknowledge, or repair the issues with this engine and what’s causing the vehicle to lose coolant, then causing other engine problems. It has put me in unsafe situations as acceleration and or overall performance is putting people at risk.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine misfired while the vehicle was being driven on a hill. In addition, the check engine and low coolant warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with coolant leak into the cylinder. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline and report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Coolant leak into engine block. Coolant needs to be topped off weekly to avoid overheating. No loss of coolant on the exterior of cooling system
MAP sensor, Oxygen sensor issues. Engine fault service light keeps coming back on once the problem get repaired.
Vehicle overheated and displayed check engine light and overheating was towed to body shop was fixed Overheated 2hours later and was towed back Overheated the next day and was towed where they say nothing is wrong
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while receiving routine maintenance, the mechanic added more oil than the engine required. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine was smoking. There was smoke coming from the tailpipe. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion into the cylinder EcoBoost. There were also metal shavings inside the engine, and a short block engine replacement was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
The engine coolant keeps leaking and requiring me to put in coolant every couple of days.
The coolant reservoir on my Ford Escape is leaking, which is a known common problem with these cars. I have had to refill it every couple of months, and there is often a puddle of coolant on the ground when moving my car. Occasionally when driving, the car temperature monitor gets hot, which is incredibly dangerous; sometimes this happens only a week after refilling the reservoir. I took my car to a shop and they noticed the coolant leak and said it would be expensive, but that it is a common problem.
The coolant system contuiously leaks which cause my vehicle to over heat and shut down while im driving. I have to add coolant daily sometimes multiple times a day. I have been on the highway and my vehicle starts to overheat and stal. I have almost gotten into wrecks. This has been going on since I brought the car
There have been recalls on this year, make and model for substantial coolant leaks in the past. Our vehicle did not make that recall list, but we have been dealing with a similar issue for many years, and even after expensive repairs we are still losing coolant. The vehicle will not hold coolant for more than 24hrs at this point before having to refill it, and we are in need of more work on the coolant system.
Recurring coolant leak in engine system, coolant tends to also leak out when poured into reservoir. This puts engine at risk of overheating. Message appears marking low coolant, it has to be replenished every 7-14 days. Mechanic has not been able to locate leak.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled and lost motive power. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had been persistent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. In addition, the vehicle had been taken to the dealer several times in the past for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 42,900.

This 2013 Escape has a 1.6L Ecoboost engine with a known engine design flaw that allows coolant to leak and be consumed through cylinders 2 and 3. This is known to cause car fires, overheating of the engine, etc.. I recently experienced the precipitous consumption of coolant through the engine which resulted in abrupt warning messages and an overheating message after which I stopped the car immediately. This could happen to anyone on a freeway or in bad traffic causing immediate safety issues for the driver/passengers. Thankfully I was very near home when this happened. I have had my vehicle inspected, pressure tested and documented confirmation that coolant is in fact leaking into cylinders 2 and 3. The only known remedy is an engine replacement (with one that was redesigned and released by Ford in 2022). I want Ford to recall all cars with the 1.5, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.3L...
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle then began to slowly decelerate. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, but the vehicle was unable to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
Always adding coolant, shook on start up, white smoke, eventually completely died which was inspected and had multiple repairs; reconditioned cylinder head, replaced water pump, thermostat and housing, timing belt, headset and head bolts, replace oil filter, fill oil and anti freeze, new battery. Total cost to fix was $3,367.98. The car is available for inspection upon request. Now after paying for all of those repairs, I am once again having the same problem with the car 1.5 years later. There have been no warning lamps either and it’s been going on for over a year and has been serviced for the same reason in the past. There are many other happenings that have happened revolving around failure of the engine system that have significantly affected the safety of myself and others, most recently extreme exhaust that was emitting a gas and burn type smell and the car was shaking...
This Car has had non-stop coolant problems for years.Constantly looses coolant and low coolant light comes on and have to refill.I replaced coolant bypass valve 7/8/21,and again on 3/22/23.Its ok awhile then starts loosing coolant again.Few days ago low coolant light came on after refilling it just a week ago. This time the engine light came on code p1299,with a message to pull over because my car was overheating and it didn't have any power.
My car will just shut off while I am driving without warning. It will restart but will continue to stop and then it won’t start back because now the battery is dead. Got a new battery and the next day it was dead. My mechanic said there is something electrical going on because there was a sparks coming for the battery when were disconnecting it to do coil packs and plugs
Losing coolant, engine light came on now vehicle lost exceleration.
On 03-17-24 My daughter was driving a few miles away from home, when the dashboard system states "High engine temperature, pull over safely." Within 30 seconds of pulling off the road, the flames came out near the windshield from under the hood. Within 5 minutes the car was fully engulfed and completely destroyed. I am so upset and frustrated that Ford is not taking this matter more seriously as this appears to be a common occurrence with these vehicles. Fortunately my daughter was uninjured.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle downshifted to first gear with the temperature gauge indicating that the engine was HOT. The check engine warning light flashed on the instrument panel and the vehicle shut off. The contact was forced to wait approximately 30 minutes to an hour before restarting the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. Several mechanics were notified of the failure and each informed that contact that the vehicle had sustained engine damage and that the engine needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V583000 (Engine) which was linked to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Unknown because I cannot afford to have it looked at however I believe it has to do with the recall on the coolant issue
2013 Ford Escape Coolant system is experiencing major leak. No engine sensor is light is coming on. The coolant leak is causing vehicle to overheat. Coolant leak is seeping onto the belts and hoses that were also replaced. Engine seals are scheduled to be replaced on March 2, 2024. I was previously advised that this used vehicle I purchased was not involved in an accident. I researched, and there are over 7,000 complaints regarding coolant leakage in this Ford year model. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Safety recall 13S12 with a risk of localized overheating of the engine cylinder head that may lead to oil leaks and fires was not completed per the procedure provided by FORD motor company.

Car shaking when I accelerate. Car jerking at times upon accelerating. Major oil leak to the point that a car place refused to change my oil due to liability.
Vehicle will completely turn off while driving, battery indicator light comes on, once pulled over the vehicle can be restarted. Had it checked it out and it’s leaking coolant from a possible cracked block into #2 cylinder. Ford told me that they currently have no programs for me to get this replaced for free. These motors are dangerous and ford needs to address this.

I HAVE A 2013 Ford Escape THAT HAS HAD TO HAVE A NEW TRANSMISSION DUE TO ITS SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED AND WITH NO WARNING FAILURE. 6000 AT FORD DEALERSHIP. THEN THE PROBLEMS WITH COOLANT STARTED. IT WOULD SUDDENLY START OVERHEATING, AND START STALLING . DROPPED DOWN TO TWO MILE AND HOUR TILL YOU LIMP OFF THE ROAD. HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CHECK IT. WILL BE FINE AND THEN SUDDENLY START LEAKING AGAIN. REPLACED COOLANT CAP, COOLANT OVERFLOW TANK, NEW HOSE FOR COOLANT TANK, COOLANT HOSE THAT INSERTS INTO REAR OF ENGINE, STAND PIPE AND BYPASS VALVE.
