oil is pouring out of the bottom of the vehicle. i believe the cylinder heated up and cracked causing oil leak ,which is a serious fire hazard.
Low coolant levels indicated by error trouble code caused by leaking freeze plug on top of the cylinder head. Leak is hard to detect because all coolant is burned on the top of the engine which releases odor into the cabin of the vehicle and could lead to possible engine fire.
On or about June 17, 2022 my suv caught fire as I was driving. I pulled over at a convenience store and someone there had a fire extinguisher and extenguished the fire.
Car went down on Friday. Won't start. Brand-new battery and the starter and alternator was tested and they both are good. Looked up VIN and was not notified that there was a recall on a certain part on my vehicle. I'd like to get this issue fixed because now my windows won't even go up or down.
With a cold engine approximately 1-2 miles after beginning driving, the engine coolant low warning comes on quickly followed by the engine temperature rapidly rising, engine overheat warning and engine shutdown. This has occurred periodically since owning the car, 65,000 miles to 85,000 miles. It used to occur only when driving uphill which was mitigated by manually shifting but now occurs on a cold engine. The coolant leaks and requires additional coolant approximately every two weeks but engine shutdowns do not always correlate with low coolant. Mechanic ran a pressure diagnostic for coolant and claimed no leaks (Sept 2022). Problem seems consistent with other NHTSA complaints.
The engine shut off going down the road. The car started to beep letting me know that my transmission was not in park. I had to put my car in park and proceed to restart it. I could have been rear ended and my life could have been taken. I noticed it in September when I first got the car.
The contact owned a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a local dealer for the repair of three previously unknown recalls. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that while parked, the front of the vehicle caught on fire. The fire department extinguished the flames and determined the origin of the fire came from the engine compartment. A fire department report was filed. The vehicle was then towed back to the dealer, where it remained awaiting further diagnosis. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V583000 (Engine); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
While driving the vehicle it started to overheat and before I could safely pull off the highway and stop it started smoking so I stopped it immediately and when I opened the hood the engine was on fire. Fire department was called a report was filed. I called ford after being informed by the fire department of a possible recall for this issue and ford denied any issues and hung up the phone on me on numerous calls.
I was on the interstate late, car stopped immediately. warning light said overheated. had vehicle towed. hose in back of motor had to be replaced. This has happened twice. this time water is streaming from lower motor mount was told this is coming from an internal water pump. That this is common for the 1.6 ford eco boost. The antifreeze could also cause a fire on a hot engine. Ford knows of this problem but will not do recalls. to fix this is very costly.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while his brother was driving at an undisclosed speed, he depressed the brake pedal however, the brakes failed to engage. No warning lights were illuminated. As a result, the contact’s brother swerved off the road but was able to engage the parking brake. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 161,905.
Around 6,000 2013 Ford Escapes were recalled for a coolant leaking / hose issue that could cause a fire in the engine. My car, according to your site, was not one of them. However, I have experience the coolant issue and tried to repair it on multiple occasions, but yesterday the issue caused my car to leak coolant all over the engine and shut down completely. I am confident this is the same issue the other cars were recalled for.
I took my car to Ford they said it was leaking oil into the turbo and I will need a total engine replacement no oil low indicator light came on my car started knocking and I shut it off right away at the dealership they said oil was leaking into the turbo and when they drain the oil there was metal in my oil plan total engine replacement will cost me $10,000
Our 2013 Ford Escape was recently taken in to a Ford Dealership for recall 22s43 transmission shifter cable bushing. The service team performed a replacement of shifter cable bushing, installed a protective cap, and adjusted the shifter as per recall. A few weeks later the transmission fault signal came up on our dashboard and the car would not shift into gear and it had to be towed home. Could the replacement have been faulty or not installed correctly, considering there were no reports of transmission issues when the vehicle was taken in to the dealership.
The fuel line caught fire while driving under normal load. There is no active recall on this model any longer, but had one years ago for same issue. This vehicle has 89k miles, serviced regularly, and fire
My wife and I bought 1 new 2013 Ford Eco Boost 1.6 liter Ford Escape in 2013. In the last 2 weeks the engine/ cylinders went bad. upon further investigation, I found numerous online complaints and a Class action Lawsuit filed against Ford for coolant leaks that infiltrated the motor and destroyed #2 and #3 cylinders. The cost of repair is more than the value of the car. Ford has known about this problem according to the online articles and has failed to fix or recall the engines based upon this problem. My engine experienced the same problems posted online. Ford told me nothing about the engine except for the cylinder failure but not the possible causes. I had to walk away from the car, Both my wife and I are retired and on a fixed income. I think Ford should bear some responsibility for thier lack of concern over...
This vehicle is a 2013 Ford Escape with a 1.6 Turbo Engine. This vehicle has coolant leaking into cylinder number 4. Ford Motor Company has recalled other 2013 Ford Escapes and Fusions with this same engine for this same problem but refuse to recall my vehicle. The engine runs ruff and has quit on occasion. This is a dangerous situation if I am driving in traffic and could cause an accident.
Engine coolant low message has continually been an issue with this car since it was purchased used at the end of 2013. It got so bad that at one time I would have to carry antifreeze with me. I have replaced the water pump, hoses, thermostat housing, and other parts at considerable expense. I noticed that NHTSA ID # 10218621 refers to 1.5L EcoBoost engines built before June 10, 2019 in 2017 thru 2019 Ford Escapes does not pertain to my car because I have a 1.6L EcoBoost engine, but what is described in that notice and the Ford Technical Service Bulletin 22-2322 is exactly what is happening to my car. I believe Ford has the same problem with this 1.6L EcoBoost engine. My problems began in 2016 and twice since the engine temp spiked to extremely hot without warning and the car had to be shut down while driving...

Had to have my transmission rebuilt for $3000
UNKNOWN, There are not any warning lights on, my cars rpm jumps when I try to accelerate. As I push the gas it acts as if it does not want to drive and won’t. I’ve had to pull over with hazards and wait for someone to come assist.
Coolant leaked from head gasket and into cylinder which caused internal engine failure. Corwin Ford has confirmed this and wants $12,302.67.
ECO BOOST-SOLENOID-TRANSMISSION-ENGINE
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while his wife was driving at an unknown speed and approaching a traffic light, the vehicle began decelerating independently. The contact stated the engine started overheating and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to park safely at a nearby parking lot. The contact added coolant and continued driving the vehicle to her destination. The contact stated that the coolant was leaking into cylinders #1 and #2. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the engine to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V583000 (Engine) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
I am really uncertain due to the fact that when I was experiencing problems with this car , ford and other licensed mechanic shops were not able diagnose what was wrong with my car . I was denied service by ford on 2 occasions and by time the car was past a simple fix I was unable to use my extended warranty.
Cylinder 3 misfire - cylinder allowed engine coolant to get into engine which should not happen - engine failed in light of this defect - engine replacement required - many Ford Dealerships will confirm the 1.6 L Turbo eco boost engine in the 2013 model year Escape are plagued with issues - Full Engine replacement required on my 2013 Ford Escape that only had 73,000 miles - Ford will not reimbursement for the new engine installed - costs for new engine just under $6900 - rental expense accumulated as well while we were down a vehicle - Ford told me to log my complaint with the NHTSA - I am doing this now - Can the NHTSA help? What can I expect from the NHTSA? Engines that fail as this one can be very dangerous - main concern is obviously and engine fire - any help would be appreciated
More times than not, the car is stalling when started. It will stall or near stall when driving. No warning lights come on when this is happening. I have noticed that when the car started doing this, that the controls for the dashboard are now not working properly. For example; when you try to reset the trip milage, it will go through all settings on board and you are not able to reset anything. This has been on going since the odometer has hit 58,000 miles. The stalling of the engine is happening more and more frequently. I have had it to several repair shops, and no one can tell me why, even though they have witnessed it stalling.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 25-30 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to drive to her residence where she parked the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine wiring harness needed to be replaced. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the head gasket was blown and that coolant fluid was leaking into the engine due to four cracks in the engine block. The mechanic informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 59,600.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, there was an abnormal carbon monoxide odor detected. The contacted stated she felt weak and sleepy. On another occasion, the contact had to pull over on the side of the road due to the carbon monoxide odor inside the vehicle. The contact sought medical attention and was informed that she had 8 level of carbon monoxide in her blood. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the mechanic confirmed that carbon monoxide was leaking into the vehicle and that there was also an oil leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.
I believe my car has the same issue noted on Ford Recall 12S39 (NHTSA Campaign #12V431000). My car's mfg date is 09/12 and my independent mechanic says that my vehicle has the same coolant issues noted in the recall, but the recall date only applied to vehicle with mfg date of 08/12. I would like to see how my mfg date can be included in the recall.
I bought my 2013 Ford Escape used in 2020 with 76,000 miles from a local Chevrolet dealer. They did not offer me a warranty on the vehicle and told me that they would not assume responsibility for it should anything break. At the time of incident, it only had 82,000 and I kept up with regular oil changes. On the day of the incident, I had been driving at about 45mph and came to a stop at a red light. When I went to accelerate as the light turned green I heard a strange noise and then the car stalled out with no other warning; no lights were lit up on the dash prior or during the stall out. I could not get the car to turn over at that point and I was stuck in the middle lane on a major highway. I had cars going all around me,...
Coolant leaked into engine. Need new engine. Ford won’t pay for it even though they knew about this ongoing problem
I got recall fixed back in june2022. Still haven’t been refunded.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle almost stalled. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated with a warning light flashing, indicating for the driver to pull over and stop. The contact stated that she was able to coast to into a parking lot with the engine was running; however, the vehicle would not exceed 15 MPH. The contact stated that the engine temperature gauge was in the RED. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and recommended that a valve in the A/C and radiator hose be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle failure had reoccurred. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle had experienced vibration, hesitation, and jumping on several occasions. The vehicle also stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the failure was caused by engine coolant intruding into cylinder #2 causing damages to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 115,000. The contact stated that the motor was replaced with a Ford factory motor by an authorized Ford dealer. The contact paid out of pocket for these repairs, but they have concerns that they were sold the same exact model that caused the vehicle to have issues.
I would like to report this extremely dangerous incident I had with my 2013 Ford Escape with the 2.0 engine. I parked my car and went shopping. The car was running fine. I returned about a half hour later. When I started the car the engine revved up to 5000RPM all by itself and stayed at that RPM even though I didn’t have my foot on the gas pedal. I had to tap the gas pedal to get the engine RPM down to the correct idle speed. I was glad the car was in park and not drive. I could have gotten in a terrible accident and maybe have killed someone. I contacted Ford customer service to see if they had a recall for this problem. My case number is 37993624. They told me there wasn’t any recall. They told me that I should take the car immediately to a...
I bought this car two years ago from rodeo Kia in Avondale Arizona and have had some issues with this car which all have been resolved but last year the car has had a major issue that still hasn’t been fixed I called numerous mechanics that have a identified the same problem over and over. I was told by repair smith that my car overheated and leaked Freon because of engine block crack that this cars are known for. So my car needs an engine block swap and I was told by the mechanic that this are one of fords cars that have this major problems down the line. So I did my research online and there is a lot of people with this problem with this 2013 ford escapes but when I put my vin number it says no recall for that but other escapes of the same year...
The engine has a coolant leak which is causing smoke to emit from the muffler pipes when started. The vehicle always seemed to burn off coolant in a way that was normal. I purchased the car in 2016. But I never had warning lights. Despite that, we (myself and my mechanics - I have gone to two) have tried to find the leak for several years, including changing hoses & seals. However, now the check engine light is on, and within the same day of the warning light, there is now smoke coming out of the muffler when engine is started. It disperses quickly but I am afraid this is some kind of fire hazard. I do not smell anything burning but this is a hazard I need to report.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle emitted abnormal sounds and surged continuously upon depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to a local Pep Boys who retrieve a code for the check engine warning light. The contact then added additives in the fuel tank and the check engine warning light disappeared. However, the failure reoccurred increasingly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the cause of the failure was not yet determined. However, the dealer informed the contact that the failure could be associated with the engine or the transmission. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was overheating while driving. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V551000 (Engine and...
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle was unable to accelerate to exceed 25 MPH. There was also a knocking sound coming from the engine. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle safely to her residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

ford escape 2013 recall #14S17-S1 problem with electrical signal connections that causes car to stall when coming to stop, ford says not applicable with my car
Transmission Shifter cable, my car is stuck in park and will not shift into drive or neutral. I can not use it and need it fixed asap.
On 06/21/2022 I took my 2013 Ford Escape to a Ford dealer because my check engine light was on. I was informed that a Evap Tube was needed and the part was ordered. A few weeks later I checked with the dealer and was told the part was on back order. 08/01 I checked again and was told that there were 3,000 people waiting for the part and there was no estimate on when it would arrive. Whenever I start the engine after getting gas the engine does not start right away. It takes several times to start. I am always worried that the engine will not start or there could be a fire.
Due to leaking coolant and overheating. I had to get engine and transmission work done that totaled over $10,000 worth mechanical work. I also had to get suspension work which is also include it the total of being over $10,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated with the engine overheating. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under recall and would be repaired pay out-of-pocket. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The failure mileage was 108,000.
The transmission failed at an intersection . The car wouldnt go into gear, the car would start to shake, care has gone backwards & having to use to E-brake to ensure vehicle is parked. My safety was put at risk at a intersection and the vehicles behind and in front of me were at risk of accident. Not safe to drive. The dealership sent out a recall on that vehicle and on NHSTA you can also see the recall and affected parts. Same issues experienced stated in the recall. Vehicle was brought to dealer ship but not inspected due to dealership waiting for part. No previous warnings. Just the incdent that put people at risk.
This was taken to Kendall Ford of Anchorage. The check engine light come on and start running bad. I immediately took it into the dealership they said I just needed new spark plugs and turn up. But in the note it says there was leaking out of cylinder two and three. No recommendations were given to me. They change the spark plugs and gave it back. Then again it started running bad April 2022. I took back to the dealership in April 2022 and they said it was misfiring but no longer was. I took it back to the dealership again when coolant light started coming on. They gave it back to me and said nothing was wrong. Now because of the leak into the cylinders it’s started overheating due to an internal coolant / antifreeze leak that allows coolant to enter into the cylinders of the engine. The dealership...
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the transmission became inoperable. The transmission malfunction warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with transmission and engine failure. The transmission and engine were replaced. The failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
We were experiencing the engine cutting out and dying very rarely for about 2 years. One day while driving the vehicle, I hit the accelerator and the car started to engage the drive train, but then cut out and died. I was able to restart the vehicle and put it into drive. It would accelerate but once it got to the correct RPM and tried to shift the engine would cut out again. Ford said that it was a transmission failure and because it wasn't under warranty it was our responsibility to replace it at our cost if we decided to do the repair. Now a year later, the exact issue that we were experiencing is beginning with the replacement transmission. If this is a recall is it the responsibility of Ford to reimburse me the cost of replacing the transmission and complete the recall repair for the transmission that...
