I WAS ON MY TO WORK ONE MORNING ENTERING THE INTERSTATE ON RAMP AND I LOST POWER STEERING WHICH ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. MAKING IT EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER THE VEHICLE. UPON TAKING IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME MY POWER STEERING TORQUE CONTROL MODULE WAS FAILING. THIS WAS A RECALL ON ESCAPES FROM 2008 / 2011, BUT THEY SAID MY PARTICULAR VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL??? UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION MYSELF I'M SEEING WHERE NUMEROUS FORD OWNERS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND LIKE MYSELF HAD TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR OUT OF POCKET...NOT CHEAP I MAY ADD. IT SEEMS THAT SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO LOOSE THEIR LIFE AS A RESULT OF THIS DEFECT BEFORE A RECALL IS ISSUED FOR (ALL) MODELS IN THIS TIME FRAME... WHAT A HORRIBLE THING FOR FORD TO PUT THEIR CONSUMERS AND THEIR FAMILIES IN JEPORDY DUE...
IN 2014, FORD HAD AN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RECALL, 14S05, FOR ESCAPES. I HAD A DEALERSHIP PERFORM THE CODE REPROGRAMMING IN OCTOBER 2014. FOUR YEARS LATER, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THERE ARE LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON THE CAR SO THERE'S NOT A LOT OF WEAR AND TEAR ON THE VEHICLE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY BOTH SAID THAT SINCE I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR THE RECALL, THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY WILL DO. THIS SEEMS LIKE IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AT FORD AND THEY FOUND A WAY AROUND HAVING TO FIX ALL THE CARS THEY MADE WITH FAULTY POWER STEERING. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE ESCAPE SO I KNOW THAT IT HAS BEEN LIGHTLY USED.
POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND THEN POWER STEERING CAME BACK. WHEN I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT, THE POWER STEERING IS STILL NOT WORKING. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE BECAUSE OF SAFETY CONCERNS. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT MY ESCAPE WAS NOT PART OF THE NATIONAL RECALL.
PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN JANUARY 2017. APPROXIMATELY MID DECEMBER 2018 A CODE POPPED UP ON MY DASH "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AS I DRIVE. I CODE IS CONTINUOUSLY ON. I CONTACTED FORD, WHO TELL ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2009 FORD ESCAPE IN 2016 FOR THIS EXACT CODE, BUT BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ASSEMBLED IN KANSAS CITY, THAT THEY CANNOT FIX IT UNDER THE RECALL AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET. I DON'T FEEL THIS IS RIGHT, AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD BE DANGEROUS IF I LOSE MY POWER STEERING WHILE ON THE ROAD. *TT*JB
I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING, THEY UPDATED THE SOFTWARE AND THE PROBLEM WAS TEMPORARILY FIXED. WEEKS LATER THE POWER STEERING FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING ALMOST RESULTING IN A CRASH. THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAS STATED THAT THE RECALL IS CLOSED AND THE FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING IS NOT THEIR FAULT, CHARGING THOUSANDS FOR A REPAIR OF THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO GANLEY FORD (2835 BARBER ROAD, NORTON, OH 44203, (800) 942-6305) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST ANGLE MALFUNCTIONED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,874.
WAS PART OF RECALL 14S05 BY FORD THEY REPLACED A SENSOR BUT VEHICLE STILL GETS STUCK IN MANUAL STEERING MODE AND WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO STEER, SO THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING NEVER WORKS
TL* THE CONTACT A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING 30 MPH, THE STEERING WENT INTO MANUAL MODE AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE RAN OFF THE ROAD. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED MANLEY MOTORS (1800 N STATE ST, BELVIDERE, IL 61008, (888) 388-4940) AND WAS INFORMED OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING FEES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IN 2014 PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *TT CONSUMER STATED DAUGHTER OWNS VEHICLE AND ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN.*JB
RECALL #14S05 INITIATED IN 2014 WAS REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL. PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR RECURRED ON JAN. 2018. I HAD THE PROBLEM CORRECTED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE RECALL REISSUED SO I MAY BE REIMBURSED BY FORD . WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED I WAS DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING LOT. I MADE IT HOME OK BUT I NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT JUST BEFORE ARRIVING TO MY HOUSE DUE TO THE STEERING FAILURE. PLEASE SEE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS OF THE ORIGINAL RECALL AND MY REPAIR DOCUMENTS IN JAN. 2018. I PUCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A PRIVATE PARTY IN AUGUST 2015 I WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY RECALL AT THAT TIME OR AT THE TIME OF THE FAILED REPAIR FROM 2014.

I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND MADE A LEFT TURN, WHILE STEERING TURNING BACK TO THE RIGHT IT FELT AS THOUGH IT WANTED TO LOCK BUT EVENTUALLY BROKE AND WENT TO NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 DIFFERENT TIMES SINCE VEHICLE PURCHASED. TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP IN FREDERICKSBURG, VA, THEY TOLD ME AFTER TESTING, I NEEDED A STEERING COLUMN EPAS AT THE TUNE OF $1400. THEY SAID YOU COULD NOT JUST REPLACE THE EPAS PART ON MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND IT WAS NOT ONE OF THE ONES RECALLED EARLIER. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE AND CHECKING WITH ANOTHER DEALER, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE EPAS PART CAN BE REPLACED BUT APPARENTLY FORD WILL NOT LET THEIR SERVICE TECHS JUST REPLACE THAT PART. THIS IS NOT RIGHT, I HAVE PAID A LOT FOR THIS VEHICLE, NEW, AND THE REPLACEMENT OF THAT STEERING IS MORE THAN I RECEIVE A MONTH FROM...

THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING); HOWEVER, ONLY THE SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED, WHICH WAS INSUFFICIENT. THE PART WAS REPLACED AT THE COST OF THE OWNER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,500.
THE CAR STEERING COLUMN STARTED TO LOCK UP WHILE IT WAS PARKED WHEN YOU START THE CAR THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN AFTER AWHILE IT WOULD YOU WERE ABLE TO TURN ON THE CAR IN THE STEERING WHEEL WERE FUNCTION AFTER A WHILE THE CAR WOULD DO IT WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WAS BROUGHT OVER TO THE DEALERSHIP STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED A FEW MONTHS LATER SAME ISSUES STEERING WHEEL COLUMN OR STEERING WHEEL WOULD HIT WHEN TURNED BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS REPLACED THE SECOND TIME NOW ALL ELECTRONICS RELATING TO THE BRAKES ARE HAVING ISSUES LIKE BRAKE SWITCH STARTS TO MALFUNCTION OR BRAKES GET LOCKED UP. THE CAR WOULD HAVE TROUBLES EITHER PARKED OR WHILE DRIVING. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP SO I'M NOT SURE IF THIS CAR HAD PRIOR ISSUES TO THAT NOTHING WAS DISCLOSED WHEN I PURCHASED IT. THE CONTACT WAITED FOR A MOMENT AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING/TURNING, THE CAR WOULD DING AND A VERY BRIEF MESSAGE WOULD FLASH ON THE CONSOLE. COULDN'T READ IT FAST ENOUGH BEFORE IT WENT AWAY. TODAY GOT IN AFTER WORK AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT MESSAGE CAME ON AND THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL YEAR, BUT APPARENTLY NOT FOR EVERY VEHICLE. SEARCHING ONLINE FOUND MULTIPLE OTHER PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM IN 2009 ESCAPES (OR OTHER YEARS INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL) THAT WERE NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL. WONDERING IF THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX AND NOT SOMETHING THAT IS VERY LIKELY TO GO OUT OTHERWISE.
STEERING VERY HARD TO MOVE. VEHICLE WAS WORKING FIND DROVE HOME FROM WORK PARKED IT. THE NEXT DAY GOT IN THE CAR AND STARTED IT WENT TO MOVE STEERING WHEEL IT WAS VERY HARD TO MOVE. I CALLED FORD DEALER AND ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE STEERING SHE ASKED FOR VIN AND IT HAS NO RECALL FOR THAT VIN. VEHICLE IS AT FORD DEALER FOR SCHEDULE STEERING REPAIR.

"TAKATA RECALL" AT ONE TIME THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING, THAT IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY 2009 ESCAPE. I CAN BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ONE SECOND I HAVE POWER STEERING AND THE NEXT SECOND MY STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP. IF IT DIDN'T GET FIXED WHEN THERE WAS A RECALL THEN CAN I TAKE IT BACK TO BE FIXED AGAIN

ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WILL LOCK UP WITHOUT WARNING WHILE IN MOTION
I STARTED MY VEHICLE AFTER WORK AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING AT ALL. I DRIVE AN HOUR ONE WAY RO WORK EVERYDAY WITH NO ISSUES EXCEPT NOW THIS. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THEIR MAY BE A RECALL. WHEN I CALLED FORD THEY SAID THAT MY VIN # HAD NO RECALLS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN HELP ME WITH.
POWER STEERING RANDOMLY GOES OUT, USUALLY WHEN STARTING THE CAR BUT SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING. OBDII CODE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS LOSS OF STEERING IS B1342. THERE IS AN ACTIVE RECALL FOR THE SAME MAKE MODEL AND YEAR AS MY VEHICLE WITH THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS AND CODE, BUT FORD REFUSES TO INCLUDE MY VIN IN THE RECALL (14S05).
MESSAGE ON DASHBOARD: POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED. NOT ABLE TO TURN WHEEL. CAR IS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. WAS ABLE TO VERIFY A RECALL FROM 2014. WHICH I NEVER WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD THIS PROBLEM. RECALL# 14V28400. FORD RECALL#14S05. MY CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN MESSAGE APPEARED ON DASHBOARD. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME SAFELY. SOON AS I PULLED IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE CAR LOCKED. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE SINCE. THIS OCCURRED ON 10/21/2018.
WHILE DRIVING WITH MY WHOLE FAMILY. 2 LITTLE GIRLS 12 AND 6 AND THANKFULLY MY HUSBAND DRIVING AND NOT ME, WE WERE RETURNING A RENTAL CAR WHEN MY CAR FLASHED OUT OF NO WHERE GOING ABOUT 45MPH POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT UPON MY RESEARCH; THERE HAS BEEN CERTAIN VEHICLES RECALLED. COME ON FORD! WHATEVER THE DEFAULT IS, CAN YOU AT LEAST GIVE US OWNERS INSIGHT ON THIS STUFF TO GET IT FIXED? IS THIS SOME KIND OF MONEY MAKER FOR YOU ALL? THE POWER STEERING INTERMENTLY GOES OUT IT EITHER WORKS WHEN I START THE CAR OR IT DOESN'T. I WAS TOLD I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN SINCE THAT IS WHERE ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL PARTS ARE LOCATED. FORD SAYS THIS IS NOT UNDER THERE RECALL AND IT WILL BE $1350 TO REPLACE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000. *TT*JB

THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER (JACK KAIN FORD, 3405 LEXINGTON RD, VERSAILLES, KENTUCKY) WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED IN 2014 PER AN UNKNOWN NHTSA CAMPAIGN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

A FEW DAYS AGO WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL ROADS AT APPROX 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING CUT OUT AND THE BATTERY LIGHT LIT. I PULLED OVER RE-STARTED CAR, DROVE ANOTHER 2 MILES AND SAME HAPPENED WHILE GOING AROUND A BEND IN ROAD CAUSING ME TO PARTIALLY GO INTO ONCOMING LANE. THIS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES WHILE BRINGING CAR TO REPAIR SHOP AND NOW TOLD I NEED A COMPLETE STEERING COLUMN DUE TO ALL COMPUTERIZED STEERING CONTROLS BEING LOCATED IN THE COLUMN. IS FORD DOING ANYTHING TO RECTIFY THIS OBVIOUS COMMON AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM ? I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE.
ON 10/6/18 I BEGAN EXPERIENCING A SUDDEN STIFFNESS IN MY STEERING WHEEL AS I TURNED THE CORNER ON A MAIN CITY STREET. AT THIS POINT I HAD TO PULL OVER CAUTIOUSLY THREE BLOCKS AWAY INTO A GAS STATION AND CALL TRIPLE AAA TO GET TOWED HOME. THE TRIPLE AAA EMPLOYEE ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IT AROUND THE GAS STATION NOTING ALSO THAT THERE IS AN ON AND OFF STIFFNESS WITH THE STEERING WHEEL. I GOT TO GET MY VEHICLE TOWED AGAIN SINCE ITS SATURDAY NIGHT, AND NO ONE IS OPEN. IT WILL NEED TO BE TOWED FORD OR ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP. BASED ON THE RECALL INFORMATION, I COULD POSSIBLY NOT BELONG IN JOB#1 FROM KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI. I AM HOPING THIS RECALL APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE. POWER STEERING WENT OUT AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. CONTINUES TO GO IN AND OUT. I SEE THE RECALL FOR CERTAIN VEHICLES. OBVIOUS MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS RECALLED VEHICLES. ONLY 74K MILES.
POWER STEERING HAS BEEN GOING OUT OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. I HAVE TO PUT ALL MY STRENGTH INTO BARELY BEING ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE INTERSTATE WITHOUT WARNING, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. IT HAS OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY UPON STARTING VEHICLE. AS OF NOW, WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET IT TO WORK AT ALL FOR NEARLY A WEEK. USUALLY, TURNING VEHICLE ON AND OFF OVER AND OVER WILL AT SOME POINT GET THE POWER STEERING TO WORK BUT NOT ANYMORE. HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN 20 MINUTES ON 08/16/2018: VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION EACH TIME, SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING ENGINE STOPPED, ALL WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP ON DASHBOARD AND LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF STEERING, SPEED CONTROL. WHEELS LOCKED UP AND ALMOST CAUSED MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS. HAD TO PULL OVER AND TURN ON VEHICLE AGAIN.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

THE DEALER (HUB CITY FORD, 2909 NW EVANGELINE THROUGHWAY, LAFAYETTE, LA 70507, (337) 233-4500) WAS CONTACTED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
WHEN DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE AS I WAS PASSING A SEMI TRUCK, CAUSING ME TO NEARLY CRASH INTO A GUARD RAIL AT 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. UPON RESEARCH OF MY VEHICLE I FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE FOR THIS AND FORD IS REFUSING TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE USED TO SUPPORT MY FAMILY.
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY MY VEHICLES POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND WENT TO MANUAL CONTROL AND I HAD MY GRANDCHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BUT ONLY ON MODELS OUT OF KANSAS CITY PLANT. APARENTLY THIS ISN'T THE CASE, AFTER RESEARCH THERE HAS BEEN HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND TOLD THE SAME THING BY FORD THAT IT'S NOT COVERED UNLESS IT CAME FROM KANSAS CITY PLANT. THIS REPAIR COST ME 2,228 DOLLARS AND ONLY 249 DOLLARS WAS LABOR. THE ONE PART FROM THE FORD DEALER WAS 1564 WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED SINCE FORD KNOWS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE MY IGNITION SWITCH BECAUSE IT CAUSED IT TO HAVE AN ISSUE.
A LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN PARKED. I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED THIS WILL HAPPEN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND PUT MY FAMILY AND OTHER DRIVERS AT RISK.

I HAVE BEEN HAVING MY POWER STEERING GO OUT RECENTLY. IT STARTED ON AUGUST 4, 2018. WHEN I TURN ON MY VEHICLE, I HAVE HAD NO POWER STEERING, AND I HAVE HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE POWER STEERING TO WORK AGAIN. I AM CONCERNED THAT IT MAY GO OUT WHILE I AM DRIVING, AND MOST OF MY DAILY COMMUTE IS ON THE HIGHWAY.

CAR INITIALLY TAKEN TO FIRESTONE WHO CONTACTED FORD WITH DIAGNOSTIC AND TOLD TO REPLACE SENSOR- THIS DID NOT CORRECT PROBLEM. FIRESTONE REFERRED US BACK TO FORD REPAIR DUE TO THE COMPLAINTS ON FILE AND RECALL ON SENSOR/SOFTWARE. CAR TAKEN TO FORD; AFTER DIAGNOSTIC- STEERING COLUMN NEEDED REPLACING AT A COST TO THE OWNER OF $1600; WORK COMPLETED.
ERROR MESSAGE: 'POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT' TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY AT 35MPH IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC DURING RUSH HOUR.
