Check engine light was on and took to ford dealership and code is P0304. Coolant is leaking internally into cylinder.
2016 Ford Edge Titanium with 58800miles, brought to Ford Dealership with check engine light on, diagnosed with blown cylinders/engine failure, requiring engine replacement. Replacement quote is $9900. Out of warranty, no customer support assistance, less than 60000miles. Known engine issues with 2.0 Ecoboost by Ford, but no recall.
Engine block crack leaking coolant into the cylinders. This was evident by white smoke coming from the tailpipe. This was confirmed by an independent mechanic who did a compression test on each cylinder and was able to identify the location of the cracked block.
Engine blew at 67,334 miles. Had complete new replacement. New engine blew at 116,239 miles
We are Canadians live in Calgary, AB Canada. We have a 2016 ford egde. There was an engine warning sign popped up when we had a road trip in US days ago. We also noticed that the car chokes when cold start with white sweet smoke come out. We had the car checked up by a ford dealer at coos bay, Oregon. Here is the diagnostics - dtcp0303 stored related to cylinder 3 misfire - found engine coolant level low - topped off coolant and pressure tested system - found pressure to bleed off abnormally - no external leaks observed - removed aprk plug and bore scope cylinder - verified coolant intrusion in cylinder 3 also found signs of burning coolant on spark plug - recommended repair is long block replacement. We cancelled our unfinished trip and struggled to drive 2000km back home(low speed, keep checking/adding coolant and engine oil)....
Coolant is leaking into the engine. My car unexpectedly and very suddenly started overheating while driving, without any warning that coolant levels were low. The car was inspected by the dealer's service center, and they confirmed this issue, stating the only solution is to completely replace the engine. The check engine light on the car did come on, but the code was related to an engine misfire. I had spark plugs and an engine coil replaced, but after a few days, the check engine light came back on with the same code of an engine misfire. One day while driving, the temperature gauge warning came on, saying that the temperature of the car was too high and to stop driving immediately. At this point, I checked under the hood and saw that the coolant overflow tank was completely empty.
My Ford Edge was running rough and white smoke was coming out of the exhaust. Tge engine light came on my dashboard. I took it to MasterTech in Dimondale MI on July 5, 2024 and they said coolant is leaking into the 4th cylinder. He said Ford recommends an engine replacement for the issue. He said Ford knows about this issue with the ecoboost engine. I have 88,000 miles on my car and shouldn't need a new engine. I have not taken it to the dealership because they charge to look at the car. They said they know about the issue but there is not a recall and it would cost $9,000 to fix. I have been informed that it is possible that the car will catch on fire.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 49,500.
Coolant leaked into engine causing cylinder to crack. The entire engine needs to be replaced. Codes showed misfires.
When starting white smoke appeared for about 5 minutes. Check engine light came on 2 weeks ago after getting my oil changed. Car felt like it had lost its power and/or pep when accelerating. Found P0301 & P0316 engine misfires. TSB 22-2229 applies to concern. Performed coolant pressure test for 2 hours, removed cylinders 1 & 2 plugs inspected with bore scope and found coolant present in cylinder1, indicating coolant intrusion. Recommend replacement of engine long block as per TSB 22-2229 and retest. Also, bushing shifter cable recall was completed as well. Went to Bruce Titus Ford, Inc. Port Orchard, WA today [XXX] . This is what the service department diagnosed my 2016 Ford Edge SEL AWD. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My Edge has 41,000 miles on it and the engine light came on. I took it to my local dealership and they found that it has coolent intrusion and therefore I need a new engine. The dealership told me there is a TSB# 22-2133 (2.0L EcoBooser - Coolant in Cylinders) for this issue but Ford never issued a recall. I did my own research to find out that there is a class action lawsuit in the Eastern District Court for this exact issue. I contacted Ford Corporate and they said they know nothing about this issue but would help expedite the repairs of my vehicle. The TSB I looked up is directly from Ford so I am a little preterbed they aren't taking responsibility for this. Engines and rental cars are not cheap.
Coolant disappearing without leaks took the vehicle to Parrish Motor Co. in Goochland Va. The diagnostics showed the engine was blown. Per Ford Forum and Reddit this has been an ongoing issue with the 2.7 Edge Ecoboost. My parents are [XXX] and [XXX] on a fixed income and brought this car brand new always took care of the maintenance but there has been several recalls for major reasons since they have owned this vehicle and it’s paid for by individuals that don’t have the $8000.00 for a new motor on a vehicle that’s paid for. Started late July 2024, vehicle currently at dealer, [XXX] drives vehicle if stranded not able to walk far. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Faulty engine design leads to head gasket failure, engine misfire and stall. Engine stall can cause loss of vehicle motive and braking by loss of vacuum assisted braking. Dealer just completed service on this vehicle and reported the failure after completing repair on another defective part, the flexplate assembly. After completing repairs advised it likely has coolant intrusion issue. Did not inform customer about the TSB showing FORD determined the block is defective and should be replaced at customer cost. Ford has known about this issue since about 2011. These engines need to be recalled. Repair data available to mechanics and on popular video sites show that Fords updated block removes two water paths that interfere with head gasket seating on 2015 - 2019 Ford Edge 2.0L EcoBoost engines. This is a known manufacturer defect that puts owners and occupants in uneeded danger due to Ford's refusal to recall and...
I'm filing a complaint regarding my 2016 Ford Edge Titanium with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine, which required two engine replacements due to a defect causing coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The engine failed due to coolant leaking into the cylinders, a problem diagnosed and confirmed by Ford technicians. Both engines are no longer in the vehicle, but documentation is available upon request. My safety and the safety of others were put at significant risk on two separate occasions. The first engine failed at 67,000 miles, leading to the engine blowing while I was driving on the highway. This nearly caused an accident as the vehicle suddenly lost power. The second engine, which was a replacement from a 2018 Ford Edge with the same 2.0L EcoBoost engine, also failed in a similar manner at 87,000 miles, again while I was driving on the highway. On this occasion, I was left stranded on...
Coolant intrusion into cylinder 4, apparently due to a design flaw. Ford knows about this problem but won't pay to fix. New motor is required at the cost of $8300. This vehicle only has 88300 miles
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, on several occasions the contact observed a rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the flex plate had cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 133,000.
Engine is overheating the car is missing real bad. Allpro mechanic evaluate the car and replace the spark plugs. Antifreeze continues to leak into the engine. Mechanic said the engine block needs to be replace.Capstone Law has a class action suit against Ford for this very issue.

coolant intrusion into the engine’s cylinders, which caused my engine to fail and ford failed to disclose these defects when I bought it now my engine has failed and I can not afford to fix it or buy another if my extended warranty wont cover it
Code for Cylinder #2 Miss Fire. Upon inspection by pressurizing the coolant tank it was observed to have coolant leaking into cylinder #2
The coolant is leaking into the engine causing misfire, and overheating.
Motor has known manufacturing defects. Was told by Ford dealership. Needs a motor at 118k miles
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the spark plugs had failed and needed to be replaced. The spark plugs were replaced but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that there was coolant intrusion in cylinders #1, #2, #3, and #4, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while the vehicle was started on several occasions, there was a chugging sound coming from the vehicle and the vehicle was shaking for approximately 30 seconds. On three other occasions, while driving at various speeds, the " Engine Hot" message appeared and disappeared. Additionally, the check engine warning light illuminated sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that cylinder #3 and the thermostat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was then taken to another independent mechanic where the contact was informed that cylinder #3 needed to be replaced again. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Check engine came on for cylinder 1 misfire. Replaced all spark plugs and ignition coils. Check engine came on again for same problem. Was diagnosed with internal engine problem by independent mechanic. Took to Ford dealer which confirmed coolant intrusion in cylinder 1. They are saying it’s a design defect and it needs a new engine block, but will not cover any of the cost.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a coolant leak and engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
Total engine failure due to coolant intrusion
No warning lights before or after the problem occurred. Driving about 25mph with traffic heard loud noise like something broke then sounded like plastic was dragging, the engine was a lot louder. I got it off traffic and pulled over. Nothing under the car. No warning or engine lights came on. Dealer told me it was a fly wheel on 6/26 and covered under warranty. Said it would take 2 weeks to repair (July 5). I kept calling for status on my car with no call back from the service manager. I finally had to complain (although I was afraid to since they had my car), and they called on 7/12 said it's not the fly wheel like they thought, they said I need a whole new transmission. They don't know what cause it but maybe something broke inside the transmission caused damage to it. $7600 cost to replace it....
Ford recalled cars with same problem with the 2.0 engine but did not recall on edge which has the problem of coolent sepping into cylinders ,engine light came on
I have a 2016 Ford EdgeTitanium with a 2.0 EcoBoost with 63,000 miles on it. In May of 2024 my check engine light came on. Verified coolant intrusion into cylinder 1 causing engine failure. Mileage on the car does not warrant an engine replacement. When Ford was contacted, both the original dealership and manufacturer, they took no fault in the matter. I was told there was a possibility of an engine fire if left as it was. I had to pay $9469.44 for a new engine! Many forums show this same issue happening with the same year/make/model. Ford should be held accountable for a known defect in the block that was not corrected through a recall.
check engine light came on, when assessed I was told it was a cylinder 3 misfire. Car began overheating while driving down the highway. Took it to a shop who performed block test > found combustion gases in cooling system caused by blown head gasket > replaced head gasket, timing chains & sprockets. After head gasket was replaced there was white smoke & misfire at cold start up - (been this almost ever since we replaced the head gasket). Shop then tested cooling system for combustion gases > found head gasket leaking due to cracking block at gasket surface > replaced complete engine assembly.
At 83,000 miles the car exhibited a P0301 check engine light for a misfire. Several troubleshooting steps were taken including new spark plugs, swapped ignition coils and then troublehooting shifted to checking for the known coolant intrusion issue. TSB 22-2229 was followed and after pressurizing the coolant system to 21 psi and inserting an endoscope visual confirmation of coolant leaking into the cylinder from the head gasket was discovered. This is a known issue to Ford that they have not acknowledged other than a TSB which advises to replacing replace the long block. We are going this route to the quote of $8,818.15. Due to Ford's change in coolant passage design they have created an engine with known issues that they are failing to warranty.
Engine block is cracked in which it is leaking antifreeze into the cylinders had a technician to look at the engine
Head gasket problem, so im told by mechanic that i need new gasket. The antifrezze is mixing with oil, 2016 ford edge is known to have these problems, 51000 miles on car. Called ford and they cannot do anything, out of warrenty. Case # [XXX] . INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that after an oil change, the check engine warning light illuminated while driving 50 MPH. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where a diagnostic test showed that the Evaporative Emissions System was defective and needed to be replaced. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided an estimate for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train). The failure mileage was approximately 74,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Known factory defect that Ford refuses to correct. Coolant is leaking into the gasket and causing engine failure. Mechanic said it would cost $6k to fix. Mileage on the car does not warrant an engine replacement at 89K miles. When Ford was contacted, both the original dealership and manufacturer, they took no fault in the matter. Many forums show this same issue happening with the same year/make/model. Ford should be held accountable for a known defect that was not corrected through a recall.
Bad design of the engine. Coolant leaks into cylinders. The manufacturer knows this is a design defect. Reference, TSB 22-2229 from Ford and NHTSA ID: 10214126
Three weeks ago my engine light came on. Took it in to Ford Services in Woodland Hills, California where they found a that there was a coolant intrusion in the engine. They proceeded to explain that this is a known issue with the type of engine due to a manufacturer defect. They were able to see that indeed this was the issue with my vehicle. But my VIN was not under the recall that is in place for other vehicles with the same engine defect. I called Ford and they said they could do nothing about it. They directed me here to make a complaint.
Getting a code of misfire on cylinder one and it’s got antifreeze on top of the cylinders blowing white steam out of the tail pipes
Issues started with check engine light with PO302 Cylinder Misfire code and rough engine starts. After having it looked at and doing a tune up, a week later there was no heat, the coolant warning light went on and temperature gauge was fluctuating while on the highway and had to pull off. Diagnosis by independent service center was the coolant leaking into the cylinder due to defective engine block casting. Researched Technical Service Bulletin 19-2208 and found this to be a common flaw. The fix is a new engine to cost more than $5,000. Vehicle has 80,000 miles. Ford offering no help due to it being out of warranty with no extended warranty.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the contact noticed white smoke coming from the tailpipe. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failure with the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant had intruded into the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a coolant leak into the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 67,982.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that an unknown emission part had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that stated that upon starting the vehicle, the engine shuddered with heavy white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. Additionally, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic where an ODB scanner retrieved information of a misfire in cylinder #4. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was discovered that coolant had leaked into cylinder #4. The dealer determined that the engine long block needed to be replaced and diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 84,000.
Ford TSB 22-2229 -- Coolant intrusion into the cylinder, requiring replacement of the long block engine assembly. The vehicle has only 49,872 miles.
While during my 2016 ford edge to my daughters house, started going up a hill and as I was attempting to accelerate my speed kept reducing. When I returned home my husband took my car to an independent mechanic who ran diagnostic test which showed cylinder 2 misfiring. Upon further inspection coolant level was low but no leaks were noted. Mechanic stated water pump needed to be replaced to prevent further possible damage to engine. Called local ford dealer to see if they could confirm diagnosis, we were told to diagnose they would charge 165. Unfortunately on a fixed income and cannot afford! After researching this problem online it appears this is a common issue with 2016 ford edge and while there was a recall issue on some 2016 ford automobiles with the same issues, ours is not included!? I believe this should be recalled as it appears this was...
In September of 2022, my flex plate on my 2016 Ford Edge Titanium broke. This is a major component of the engine and $2,000+ fix. I was told by the mechanic that other Ford Edge’s were experiencing this, it was not a recall. Well, about a year and half later the flex plate broke AGAIN. This time with me driving down the road. The car completely stopped. I’ve never been more afraid in my life of getting hit. Long story short, after bringing my car in AGAIN for this issue, I was told by the mechanic that though they can replace the flex plate free of charge because it was under warranty, it damaged other components in the engine to the point where it’s inevitable that my ford will be undrivable soon. They also told me that there was a recall out for this issue so that I can be...
