TRUCK WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND IT WAS RAINING AND WITHOUT WARNING THE LIGHTS TURNED ON AND SMOKE WAS SEEN FROM THE HOOD, THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION OR NO ONE WAS NEAR THE TRUCK AT THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED IN AND THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS AND $1000.00 WAS SPENT ON REPAIRS AND WHEN THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN FOR A CAR WASH THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN THE DODGE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSES THE WATER TO GO IN TO THE ENGINE I WAS TOLD TO CHANGE THE SPARK PLUG WIRES AND CABLES ANOTHER $600.00 BUT I WAS TOLD THAT AS WATER KEEPS GOING IN THE SAME PROBLEM MAY OCCUR. TESTS WERE DONE IN THE DODGE DEALER SHOP AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT WATER IS GOING IN TO THE ENGINE BUT CANNOT EXPLAIN WHY AND...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING WHENEVER BEING DRIVEN IN RAINY WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING EACH TIME IT WOULD RAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR SPORADICALLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200.
WHEN RAINING VEHICLE WANTS TO SHUT OFF DUE TO WATER RUNNING DOWN THE HOOD/ WINDSHIELD COWL AND DIRECTLY RUNNING ONTO ENGINE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. PERFORM A SEARCH FOR VEHICLE AND ISSUE. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE. *TR
OEM CD PLAYER HAS BECOME INOPERABLE DUE TO BATTERY CHANGE. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH ALL MAKES AND MODELS OF DCC. EVEN NEW 2013 AND 2014 MODELS. DCC REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. DEALERS CHARGE BIG BUCKS TO RE-FLASH CONTROL MODULE SO THAT CD PLAYER IS AGAIN RECOGNIZED BY COMPUTER. WHY SHOULD A VEHICLE HAVE TO BE RE PROGRAMMED EVERY TIME A BATTERY GOES DEAD? THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW IN SOFTWARE AND THE PUBLIC SHOULD NOT BE FOOTING THE BILL FOR IT. *TR
DURING MEDIUM/HEAVY RAIN THE ENGINE STALLS BADLY OR COMPLETELY DIES. ALSO HAPPENS DURING CAR WASHES, THOUGH NOT A SAFETY ISSUE THEN- JUST AGGRAVATING! :( RESTARTS ONLY AFTER RAIN SUBSIDES. THIS CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITION- FOR MYSELF AND THOSE VEHICLES AROUND ME. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE. DESPITE COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS, IT APPEARS DODGE HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR ADDRESS IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS, ALIENATING MANY PREVIOUSLY LOYAL CUSTOMERS (THIS WAS A VERY POPULAR SUV). THE FACTORY WARANTY WAS EXPIRED/NEAR TO EXPIRE WHEN MOST OF US BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE THIS SO WE HAD LITTLE RECOURSE. THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS AND THE RADIO THEN IMMEDIATELY BECAME INOPERABLE. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S SIDE DOORS AND REAR HATCH ALSO BECAME INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER WATER CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE VEHICLE SUCH A RAIN, DRIVING THROUGH A DEEP PUDDLE OR GOING THROUGH A CAR WASH FOR INSTANCE, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND THE ELECTRIC THROTTLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
WATER IS GETTING UNDER THE COWL AND ONTO MY MOTOR. I HAVE TAKEN MY 2004 HEMI DURANGO TO SEVERAL SHOPS/DEALERS AND THE WATER IS CAUSING ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS. THE CYLINDERS ARE MISFIRING, SOME OF THE METAL PARTS UNDER THE HOOD HAVE RUSTED IRREPARABLY (IE. MOTOR HEAT GUARDS), THE WINDSHIELD GETS ICE ON THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, MY HEADLIGHTS BLINK ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING, THE HEAT WORKS ONLY SOMETIMES DUE TO THE WIRES UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH GETTING WET, AND THIS WATER GETTING THROUGH IS ALSO CAUSING MY CAR TO STALL OR ALMOST STALL EVERY TIME IT RAINS OR TAKE IT THROUGH A CAR WASH. THIS WATER IS CAUSING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. IT IS ALSO RUSTING HORRIBLY FAST NEAR THE WHEEL WELLS AND ON THE BACK TRUNK HATCH. WITHIN ONLY 2 WEEKS OF COLD WEATHER I NOW HAVE A SOLID HOLE FROM THE RUST. WHY CAN'T THEY RECALL...

THE ELECTRICAL PORTION STARTED AFTER I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE ISSUE WORSENED AFTER SOMEONE BROKE INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WOULDN'T STAY CHARGED, AND I ENDED UP NEEDING A TOW EVERY OTHER WEEK. MY CAR INSURANCE WENT UP TO $550.00 A MONTH. I WAS ALWAYS STRANDED. THE PROBLEM WAS WORSE IN THE RAIN. SOMETIMES THE CAR WOULD CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING, IT DID IT ONCE ON THE HIGHWAY AND I SAW A SEMI COMING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND I THOUGHT I WAS DEAD. I GOT IT STARTED AND PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SPEED TO GET OUT THE WAY. EVENTUALLY IT COULDN'T' START ANYMORE. I HAD IT SITTING FOR A YEAR AS I KEPT MAKING LOAN PAYMENTS. I FIXED ONE THING AFTER THE OTHER...THINKING IT WAS THE PROBLEM...THE CAR WOULD START AND DIE A FEW DAYS LATER. THIS LAST TIME I CHANGED THE STARTER...

THE TRUCK IS IN THE GARAGE I CANT DRIVE IT WHEN IT RAINS BECAUSE WATER GOES IN TO THE TRUCK FROM THE FRONT I CAN ACTUALLY SEE WATER LEAKING INTO THE FLOOR. I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO 5.7 V8 IT WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AND IT WAS RAINING, THE LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING WITHOUT THE KEYS OR ANY POWER GOING TO THE TRUCK. I TRIED TO MOVE THE TRUCK INTO THE GARAGE TO CHECK ON IT AND IT STARTED SMOKING ON THE INTERIOR AND SMOKE FROM THE HOOD. MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED STALLS AT SLOW SPEEDS AND WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND ALSO WHILE MAKING TURNS. MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO SAT OUTSIDE IN THE RAIN WHILE I WAS AWAY ON A TRIP WHEN IT RETURNED AND RESTARTED IT, I HEARD A LOAD POP AND THE ENGINE IDLING ROUGH, GOT OUT TO CHECK AND SEEN AND SMELLED OIL COMING OUT OF THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. VEHICLE WAS RUNNING FINE UNTIL STORM CAME THROUGH DUMPING CONTINUOUS RAIN ON VEHICLE. I WENT TO MOVE THE VEHICLE LATER THAT DAY AND NOTICED STANDING WATER ON DRIVERS SIDE FLOORBOARD/CARPET. IT WAS SOAKED! I WENT TO START THE ENGINE IT DIDN'T RESPOND INITIALLY SO I TURNED IGNITION BACKWARDS (OFF DIRECTION) AND TRIED TO RESTART. AT THAT MOMENT IT STARTED VERY ROUGH AND MADE A LOUD NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND CONTINUALLY DOES SO WHENEVER IT IS STARTED NOW. I CAN'T AND DON'T DRIVE IT. LOOKING CLOSER UNDER THE HOOD APPARENTLY WATER IS GETTING INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHEN IT RAINS. THE BLACK MATERIAL LINING UNDER THE HOOD WAS SOAKED ALSO. ON THE ENGINE THERE WERE WATER DROPLETS AND MOST COMPONENTS OF THE ENGINE HAD DRIED WATER MARKS/STREAKS THROUGHOUT THE COMPARTMENT.
MY WELL-MAINTAINED 2004 DODGE DURANGO SLT BEGAN DOING SOMETHING BIZARRE A FEW MONTHS AGO AT ABOUT 120,000 MILES. THIS HAS 4.7L V8 AND THE AWD-4HI-4LO 2-SPEED TRANSFER CASE. THE "SERVICE 4WD" AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING, AND IT FELT LIKE THE TRANSFER CASE WAS STUCK IN 4HI WITH THE TIRES GRABBING ON A TURN. THE SELECTOR KNOB ON THE DASH WOULD NOT FUNCTION. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC WHO CHECKED THE FUNCTION OF THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR, INSPECTED THE MOTOR AND WIRING, AND CHANGED THE TRANSFER CASE FLUID AGAIN. I CALLED MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO CHANGE THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR. THE MOTOR COSTS $1190 PLUS TWO HOURS LABOR AND TWO QUARTS OF ATF+4 FLUID. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE MOTOR OR THE TRANSFER CASE OR THE...
WENT OUT TO START 2004 DODGE DURANGO MORNING AFTER A HEAVY RAIN, TURNED KEY AND ROD WENT THRU BLOCK. HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT WHEN IT RAINED (CAUSED MULTIPLE MISFIRES) FOUND OUT LATER AFTER THE ENGINE BLEW THAT THE COMPANY WAS AWARE OF THE COWL LEAKAGE PROBLEM THAT ALLOWS WATER TO LEAK ONTO MOTOR. THINK THERE SHOULD OF BEEN A RECALL OR LETTER ADVISING US THIS NEEDED FIXED. EVIDENTIALLY THESE COMPLAINTS AREN'T BEING READ OR NO ONE IS PAYING ATTENTION TO THEM. GUESS WERE ALL SCREWED BY DODGE. VEHICLE WAS MAINTAINED PROPER EVERY 3000 MILES JUST FOR INFORMATION DODGE WILL NOT HELP ANYONE IF ENGINE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY WILL TELL YOU YOUR ON YOUR OWN. VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A RESIDENTIAL SIDE STREET FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 HOURS WHEN IT CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE ENTIRE FRONT END AND DASH WAS DESTROYED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED IT APPEARED TO BE AN OBVIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, SO THEY DID NOT NEED TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER. THEY HAD TO REMOVE THE INTERIOR ROOF BECAUSE THE WIRING HAD STARTED BURNING ALONG THE EDGES OF THE ROOF INTERIOR. THE VEHICLE WAS UP-TO-DATE ON FACTORY RECALLS, AND DESPITE THIS, IT STILL BURNED. I DID NOT RECEIVE A WARNING, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS CLEAR, AND THE 2004 DURANGO ONLY HAD ABOUT 75500 MILES AS OF 4/2013. I WAS THE SOLE OWNER. *TR
PURCHASED MY HEMI DODGE DURANGO 2004, WITH APPROX. 90,000 MILES ON IT. ONLY 20,000 MILES INTO THE PURCHASE, TURNING FROM A COMPLETE STOP ACCELERATING INTO A 40 MPH. LANE AT APPROX. 25-35 MPH, (CLUNK) AFTER HEARING A LOUD THUMP, CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. TOWED TO EXPERIENCED MAINTENANCE, CONTACTED MY LOCAL CHRYSLER MAINTENANCE DEPT., ONLY OPTION TO RESOLVE MY MATTER WAS TO REPLACE MY NOW DEAD 110,000 MILE ENGINE WITH A RE BUILT ENGINE AT A PURCHASE PRICE OF $2,500/APPROX.70,000 MILES. APPROX. 15,000 MILES AND ONLY LOCAL DRIVING (3 MILES TOPS/PER DAY), I AM EXPERIENCEING FAULTS WHICH LEAD ME TO BELIEVE, I WILL EXPERIENCE THIS UNFORTUNATE PROBLEM AGAIN. WENT TO THE REPAIR FACILITY TO HAVE CAR LOOKED AT CODE P2302 CAME UP WHEN CHECKING THE COMPUTER WAS INFORMED THAT WOULD NEED A NEW PCM REPLACED WITH A NEW FACTORY ONE AND ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND WHEN TRYING TO CLEAR IT THE LIGHT BLINKS AND JUST STAYS ON BOTH TIMES THE CODE P2302 CAME ON THE IGNITION COIL FOR THAT CYLINDER WAS CRACKED AND THE PLASTIC WAS MELTED. *TR
BOUGHT THIS 04 DURANGO WITH A HEMI, IN 2010. IT HAS ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM WITH RUNNING ROUGH OR STALLING AFTER/DURING RAIN. SOMETHING IS GETTING WET? DEALERSHIP TRIED TO FIX IT A COUPLE OF TIMES. IT WORKS FINE AFTER IT DRIES. ALSO THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2004 FOR POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE FAILURE POSSIBLY CAUSING FIRE. THIS VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TO HAVE THE REPAIR FOR THIS RECALL (#D40) IN 2007. THE SAME BATTERY CABLE IS NOW FAILING AND IS IN THE SHOP FOR REPAIR. THE BATTERY CABLES ARE NOT AVAILABLE AFTER MARKET SO THEY HAVE BEEN ORDERED FROM DODGE. THERE IS NO PROVISION IN THE RECALL TO REPAIR WHEN THE THING FAILS EVEN AFTER IT WAS FIXED. IT STARTED HAVING ALL KINDS OF ELECTRICAL ISSUES SO I BROUGHT IT TO REPAIR SHOP (NOT DEALERSHIP). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
