MESSAGE CLEARED BUT DECIDED TO DRIVE HOME. MESSAGE CAME ON DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION DRIVE MODERATELY SO I CONTINUED ON FOR ABOUT 1.5 MILES AT SLOW SPEED. A CLICKING SOUND COULD BE HEARD. THE CAR JUMPED INTO NEUTRAL SO I COASTED TO A SAFE SPOT AND TRIED TO PUT CAR IN DRIVE UNSUCCESSFULLY. TURNED ENGINE OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART. TOW TRUCK PUT ON FLATBED TO MECHANIC WHO THEN RAN A A SCAN. HE SAID THE ENGINE IS RUINED AND WILL NEED REPLACING. WHEN I TOLD THEM THE MILEAGE THEY TOLD ME IT WASN'T COVERED OVER 70K MILES. THEY SAID THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE THE DAMAGE WOULD LIKELY RUIN THE ENGINE AND REQUIRE POSSIBLY A NEW ENGINE. ENGINE COOLANT PUMP AND THERMOSTAT FAILED AT 52000 MILES. IT'S 2000 MILES AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. IT WAS FAILED WAY TOO EARLY BY ANY MEASURE FOR ANY ON ROAD VEHICLE. I HAD ENGINE OVERHEAT WARNING, POSSIBLY DUE TO COOLANT PUMP FAILURE. HOWEVER, THE OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE ON THE DASH SHOWED NORMAL TEMPERATURE. AFTER VEHICLE STOPPED, TRIED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE WITH HOOD OPENED. WITH OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE SAYING NORMAL TEMPERATURE, COOLANT WAS OVER HEATING, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE INJURY FROM CONFUSION.
