GPS is indicating incorrect location. GPS routing is not accurate. Car essentially doesn't know where it is. Sign assist feature is showing wrong speeds on roads. This appears to be a common problem with VW cars. In an emergency help needs to know where the car is located. This is an ongoing problem that doesn't have a solution.
Driver's side door cannot be opened from outside. Exterior handle pulls but produces only clicking sounds inside the door—latch does not release. Interior handle requires multiple pulls to open the door. Emergency release handle (pulling exterior handle fully upward) also fails to open the door. This vehicle has had both door handle recalls (23V-706 and 24V-329) performed by an authorized VW dealership. The problem has occurred intermittently since purchasing the vehicle over a year ago but is now persistent/permanent. This is a safety defect—the driver cannot exit normally in an emergency, and the vehicle cannot be accessed from outside through the driver's door by any means including the emergency release.
Backup camera has failed and shows an error. This has created a safety risk when backing up.
I have open recalls on my vehicle, and Volkswagen is refusing to fix them. This includes the door handles and the battery. The battery recall has been open for a while, and NO dealership is fixing it for me. Additionally, the local dealership refused service and tried charging me to fix the recall, which is supposed to be free. The "date this incident occured" below is today, because they are completely refusing service now.
The rear view camera does not display an image and states it's in error.
After replacing rear tire on this vehicle, (due to a flat tire). The traction control system malfunctions. The TCS turns on, on the slightest of turns, when the TCS turns on it reduces power the wheels. So therefore while driving and turning the TCS will reduce power, causing vehicle to slow in turns. Possible setting up driver for a rear end collision. This has happened to me directly, filed complaints with the manufacturer had vehicle there, told to replace all four. Did that and issue was reduced however not resolved.
While attempting to reverse in vehicle, if you look over your shoulder to reverse, the car will intermittently turn off. There have been multiple instances on different surfaces where this has happened. The driver seat was occupied, restrained, looking over right shoulder primarily to reverse and the vehicle turns off. This is a huge safety issue, what if you are halfway into a roadway, triple checking over your shoulder and the car turns off.
1. Warning Lights Triggering at Random: The vehicle randomly displays warning lights while driving, causing me panic and concern that the car may be unsafe or about to malfunction. I have brought this to the dealership’s attention on multiple occasions ([insert dates if known]), but they were unable to diagnose or fix the problem. Despite this, the warning lights continue to appear intermittently. 2.Doors Getting Stuck from the Inside: The interior doors frequently fail to unlock or open on the first attempt, requiring multiple tries to exit the vehicle. This presents a serious safety hazard, especially in the event of an accident or emergency where quick exit from the vehicle is necessary.
After the 919A recall My screen experiences the issue that recall was supposed to fix more often now once it shut down for 10 minutes. While I was driving on the highway another time, it decided to reboot the screen and it was unable to adjust. Any of my air conditioner controls which distracted me from driving and another time it messed up while I was trying to get navigation information which also distract me from my driving which is why I think this is a serious safety issue. It doesn't do it with the reverse camera anymore, but it is still extremely unsafe and Volkswagen needs to remedy it because their recall that they said was going to fix it did not
I was driving my 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S on March 12, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland, when I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Although I maintained an adequate stopping distance from the truck in front of me, my forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assistance systems suddenly activated, causing my vehicle to make contact with the truck. My safety—and the safety of others—was compromised. My vehicle sustained front-end damage. This was not the first time these systems engaged without cause. I took my vehicle to Heritage Volkswagen Parkville (located in Carney, Maryland) due to unresolved recalls and these irregular system behaviors. The dealership claims that Volkswagen requires me to replace the tires, align the wheels, and install a new 12V battery before completing the recall work or troubleshooting the issue. I informed the service manager that the vehicle is unsafe to drive and that, under...
I was driving at 35 mph when the front doors began unlocking and locking rapidly three times, then both front doors fell open ajar, at the same time the screen went grey with a triangle ! icon as an audile alarm went off then the drivers side curtain airbag deployed forcing the steering wheel to the right causing the vehicle to collide head on into an electric utility pole. I tried to brake but was pushed by airbag from brake pedal. I was wearing a seat belt but suffered an burn from the airbag on right inner forearm that was impression of VW logo and has resulted in lasting scar, I had modest right wrist sprain and right shin contusion, abrasion. The vehicle rolled back in the road and was towed and later totaled by insurance. The automatic braking detection nor any other airbag deployed on collision.
Still have a URGENT SAFTEY RECALL that VW states they still do not have the parts to fix.... Door Handles....It has been months since 9/04/2024
Mechanical 'clunk' noise that comes from the rear of the car when accelerating or decelerating. This occurs predominately at a mild or above acceleration/deceleration. If the vehicle gradually moves the noise does not occur. The noise has gotten more frequent over time and has also become louder. First observed late 2024, and taken for initial dealership diagnoises and inspection early 2025. The dealership has replaced a harness cover but it remains unresolved. The dealership is continuing to investigate the cause as they are not aware what is creating the clunk. The car does not indicate any warning lights or have any error codes that are reported. It does appear to drive normally, however the concern of a mechincal clunk is concerning as there is no awareness of what part is creating the noise and if it is damaging other components or will lead to a catastrophic failure while driving. Videos...
The interior driver side rear passenger door (left behind the driver) and window won't open. This appears to only affect the driver side passenger rear door. The inside passenger side rear (right side of the car) door handle works. Also, the exterior door handle for the driver side rear door opens the door so it's only the interior handle that doesn't work. This is dangerous because there's no way to open that door if you're sitting inside. I tried to open the window and the button also doesn't seem to work. This happens when the car is off or on at any speed or stopped.
Manufacturer Recall Number919A NHTSA Recall Number24V344 Recall StatusRecall Incomplete I had received Recall notification from VW, following which i had given my vehicle to the service center "Leith Volkswagen of Cary" at "2300 Autopark Blvd, Cary, NC 27511" on [XXX]. The recall repair has not been completed since then and the vehicle is still with the service center. From the last update from the service rep is that they tried to update the software and it has been failing. Apparently VW manufacturer support team has been notified and the suggested procedures from them were also unsuccessful. At this time its been 5 weeks and no sight on when they would be able to fix the issue. I have been given an loaner vehicle which is similar with less features, but i cannot have my daughter use the vehicle due to age restriction. I want to raise the concern here to...
While stopped at a red light waiting to turn left, with foot on the brake, my car suddenly accelerated and lunged forward , plowing into the car in front of me with great force. I had to jam down the brake almost to the floor to get the car to stop. My foot was on the brake. There is no way I hit the accelerator. Even if I had, the AEB system is supposed to prevent me crashing at close range. I understand that this is a known issue related to the adaptive cruise control. The force of my car was so great that 3 cars in front of me sustained damage.
My infotainment and instrument panel displays have frozen or reset multiple times while driving. On one occasion, my air conditioning came out at a high speed, the volume of my radio went up and all of my indicators came on. Luckily I was able to pull over to avoid a crash, but needless to say it was horrifying. I took the car in for service, and they assured me they had reset the OS, and I'd be fine. That extreme of an instance hasn't occurred since, but the infotainment display does still go black, freeze or reset from time to time. Every time, I schedule an appointment to fix the recall, the VW Service cancels my appointment, saying updates keep crashing for other customers. I also receive VW app notifications that my AC is on when I'm not even in the car. Same with the door locks, I constantly receive...
The vehicle has suffered multiple failures of the main infotainment display. This screen is used to show the backup camera, as well as to adjust all vehicle settings and safety systems. The infotainment display will go black, and will not reboot or respond to touch input. This means that the backup camera is nonfunctional, as well as perimeter traffic warnings and vehicle controls for climate and safety systems. The vehicle has been serviced by an authorized VW dealer on multiple occasions, but the issue has reoccured at least three times. Each time, it has required about a month in the shop. The manufacturer has denied a buyback and states that the vehicle is performing as intended. They have also denied reimbursement of expenses. This vehicle has spent over 120 days in the service department within the previous calendar year.
Good day, In 2023, In bought the car and since then it have had many recalls and electrical problems which let the car to be out of service for over 60 days, see documents attached. Since yesterday, the car has the center and instrument panel display OFF preventing the speedometer and rearview camera from displaying in addition to front and rear parking sensors also off. I have contacted the dealership and they do not have appointments available until 02/2025. This car should be removed from the market due to its complete insecurity to drivers.
Constant recalls on this vehicle. Vw unwilling to work w us on taking back the vehicle. Issues prior to 50,000 mile mark but they say we didn’t file a complain early enough. Outstanding recalls
Vehicle starts to accelerate then hesitates for about 5-6 seconds before accelerating again while even keeping pedal down. Has happened on the first drive after multiple dealer visits, I think it’s related to computer resets and the dealer says it’s normal operation of the vehicle recalibrating itself. Problem is it happens when I pull out into traffic and almost causes a wreck.
I leased a car three years ago. This ID4 on May 15,2023 left me at a full stop in the middle of the highway. I then dropped it off to the dealer where they inspected it and saw it was a sensor/software issue, I think. They never actually disclosed the problem, nor held accountability. They insured me after almost two weeks of having to pay gas for a loaner car that they had fixed it and it was safe. After that incident and before my car had been in service countless times, all very inconvenient but not immediate safety issues, until the door handles. The door handles have been recalled twice before this last incident. My car was in there for over two weeks again back and forth. They broke my actual handles and had to go back in again, they claimed they were fixed. Now, almost 6monthankater I go...
The manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy the safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner. It has currently been in there possession for over 30 days with multiple failed attempts to correct the recall/issue with my vehicle.
The rear camera when backing up, does not work, and it's super difficult to back up, with a car that has a small rear window, as a driver you need the backing camera plus the sensors
Car stopped without warning on six lane road in busy traffic. Display indicated electrical system failure. Vehicle would not re-start. Fortunately I was able to exit the vehicle and make it to the edge of the road but this was a very dangerous situation. Car was traveling between 30-40 mph at time. All active recall work had been performed per the dealership.
The screen showing the speed and the backup can stop working at any point leading to a crash and compliance issues. It's been several months and VW still has not come up with a solution for this recall and these cars are still on the streets, hence they are a major threat to consumer safety.
I got out of my car on Saturday, April 20th at a shopping mall 50 miles from my house. I parked and my screen told me that I had an over the air software update that I needed to install. I began installation of the update and parked and left my vehicle. I returned approximately 2 hours later and the car would not shift into drive. I had a yellow error message that said my cornering light was not functioning properly, but nothing referencing why my car wouldn't go into drive. I sat and tried to troubleshoot for another hour before calling roadside assistance. I was away from home, so they explained that they would only be able to tow it to a nearby dealership. It was after hours, nothing was open and it wouldn't be open until the following Monday. I paid almost 500 dollars to tow the vehicle...
Door won't unlock / open from inside. Got stuck a few times, had to turn off and on the car for doors to re-engaged electronically. Nothing in manual reflects manual emergency open doors. What happens in the event of power failure or dead battery?
the driver door open by itself during driving. It happened 3 times. It is not possible to lock the car. I had called the dealer ship. On my first call the said i will be on the list. After 3 weeks i called again then they said they didn't have the parts to make the repairs. I have asked for the manager to call back and it never happened.
My vehicle has had two door handle recalls, the second and more important one has been there for almost 4 months and there is still no fix available. Is there a time limit that the manufacturer has to provide a fix by? Thanks!
I was slowly driving down a lane in a parking lot. The parking spaces were perpendicular to a wall. I start to turn the steering wheel and slowly tap my brakes since the car was already going at a slow speed. All of a sudden, the car lunges forward and crashes into the wall beyond the parking slot. The airbags blow up and, after impact, my mom who is in the passenger seat complaints about severe chest pain. Soon the ambulance is there to take my mom to the hospital (she is eventually diagnosed with two broken ribs and a fractured cervical bone). I stay at the scene to talk to the police about what happened (the police gathered information from bystanders and took many pictures). I am in shock about the incident and trying to figure out what happened. I research the topic on the Internet and find out...
Volkswagen cannot address my recall 93P7. I have called multiple dealerships and the battery cannot be addressed.
UNKNOWN All LCD screens would not display an image including the one that displays the speed at which the vehicle is traveling. The only difference from normal was the car sitting in the sun for a few hours and the back of the LCDs being hot to the touch. Was able to remedy by running the AC on Lo with the car empty for about 20 minutes. The car did not have a visible speedometer or anything else available on that screen. There bottom row of icons did display on start up and did not show any errors. However I would say that it is a fairly big issue not knowing the speed you are going. I have seen on a VW ID forum other people having had this issue. Vehicle has a service appointment August 31 for this issue. Not yet for replication or inspection. There was no warning...
The dealer has not informed me about an open recall stating that the car door handles can open at a certain speed. This recall was filed since 05/05/2023, but the necessary parts to address the problem are still unavailable. I became aware of this issue through an email from Progressive Insurance. Despite my car undergoing service for three other recalls at Deel Volkswagen in Coral Gables, Miami, FL (where I purchased the car), they never notified me about this problem. Even after three separate visits, each lasting three weeks, this issue was never addressed. I already escalated the matter to Volkswagen Corporation and the customer care department a month ago, but I'm still awaiting a response. The car is not functioning properly, and the doors frequently get stuck, making it extremely challenging to enter or exit the vehicle.
While driving my foot will regularly get lodged/wedged below a piece of plastic trim adjacent to the accelerator. This delays or sometimes prevents me from easily letting up on the accelerator. While it can be dislodged with a little effort it requires me to completely reorient my foot. This is especially noticeable during "one pedal driving" where your foot does not need to be moved to the brake to decelerate. It does cause a delay in deceleration if only momentarily but requires effort and is at the very least distracting. Or in the worst case scenario it could delay deceleration long enough to cause an incident. The plastic trim protrudes about 1/4". The trim sits over a "carpeted" liner. This liner has no solid backing and can be pushed in and away from the accelerator leaving an even larger "lip" to overcome. This may not happen with all drivers but...
On July 3, 2021 -- we dropped the car off (an appointment we did in May 2023) to fix a safety software issue. The car did not have any warning lamps. We brought the car running, after a week they told us the car no longer is working and that the part is backordered until further notice (probably has no repair). We were not given a loaner and the other alternatives included taking money from our pockets. This is our only car and we commute. We are stuck. They left us with no car for something that we did not cause and are not willing to stop the car payments either.
The multiple recalls for this vehicle are not being completed in a timely manner. I have been trying to get the recall repairs completed for months without success. (Trying sense April) I am on a waiting list but the dealership has no idea when they can repair the vehicle.
VW issued a recall stating the following: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021 ID.4 vehicles. Software programing may cause the high voltage (HV) battery management control module to restart or the pulse inverter to deactivate. Recall consequence: A reset or deactivation may cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Recall action: Dealers will update the HV battery management control unit and the pulse inverter control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 31, 2023. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 97ZZ. Since the notification in March, no dealer in the DC area has been certified to make the repair, and as of June 12, 2023, no shop in America is able to repair the issue due to a lack of parts.
On Thursday, May 25th, 2023, I got in my vehicle, turned on the ignition, and a yellow warning message came on the instrument cluster, "SOS Error: Emergency Call Function! Service Vehicle." The error remained in the vehicle even after turning it off and on again multiple times. The status light for the Emergency Call function also turned red and was no longer available.
I was notified that there were three safety recalls on my 2021 Volkswagon ID4, including one involving the battery and a risk of fire. The recalls were: 55N-1, 97ZZ, 93P7. I brought the car in for service at the Volkwagon service center in White Plains New York ("White Plains Volkswagon" service center at 410 Saw Mill River Rd, Elmsford, NY 10523) and was told they would address the issues. Three days later, the service center called to say that they were only able to address the 55N-1 issue and didn't have labor available to address the others and that we would have to take our car back. They also said they were unwilling to pay for a rental car or give us a loaner beyond the three days that already passed. We're on a waiting list to address the other safety recall issues but, in the meantime, I feel unsafe...
During a trip driving home 3/31/2023 at approximately 11:00pm, the car's software system failed. The console that displays the digital speedometer was affected on the car as well as the infotainment system. The message on the console displayed a message "Warnings and Information not available. Drive with greater care!" The digital speedometer displayed three dashes through the rest of the trip home. All of the car's features including lane correction were offline. This car's software is not functional enough for the car to be driven safely.
Driver's door keeps unlocking while driving. Swung open several times while driving. Also, sometimes difficult to unlock driver's door from the outside. All this seems to be be related to error messages concerning Auto Hold (which this vehicle does not have) and Travel Assist not being available. All this began after my first one year scheduled service on 2/17/23. Taking in vehicle on 3/10 concerning these problems. I had made an appointment for an earlier date, but cancelled it because everything went back to normal. The dealer said if the messages were not active, I would be wasting my time. I called the VW Customer Service Number and reported my concern on 2/24. I am not driving my vehicle as it is not safe if the driver's door opens while driving.
Driver door cannot be opened from the outside or inside. It appears the latch, the central locking system, or the electronic switch to the latch, etc. failed. The is a major safety concern in an emergency to access the driver or to escape the vehicle. The current ingress and egress routes for the driver are through the front passenger door. The driver door has always operates in a "strange" fashion and reported to the dealer when it was new. Prior to the failure and oftentimes the driver door handle has to be pulled twice (from the inside even the door is unlocked) to open the driver door. The failure to open the door from the inside or outside has been documented in various internet discussion forums and can easily be searched. The vehicle is currently in the shop for diagnosis.
While driving the vehicle, error messages were displayed in the digital cluster indicating, among others, "electrical system not working, Safely stop vehicle", "I2V battery error", "Issue with all-wheel drive system", "Front/Travel Assist not working". In less than 10 seconds, the vehicle came to an unintended complete stop right as I was completing a left turn (to get the vehicle to the curb of the street) to park the car. A car was behind me and had to maneuver around me to proceed on its way. My daughter (in a child car seat in the back) and I were the only occupants and were at risk of a car collision because the car stopped moving in the middle of the road. I have now taken the car to a dealership for inspection. At the dealership, one of the representatives commented that this is not the first time they have seen this...
The software system rebooted itself unexpectedly while driving. I could not see my dashboard information and the radio display was blank. Glitches have been progressively getting worse and I’m afraid it might affect other components of the vehicle in time. VW dealership confirmed there have been issues but didn’t offer any solution. No warnings were presented prior to every glitch.
At a red light, upon releasing the break to accelerate, the vehicle turned off. Meaning, the vehicle went from drive mode "D" to park "P" when I accelerated as the light turned green. This occured without prior warning that it would shift into "P". When I put my foot on the break to shift back into "D", then accelerated again, the vehicle went back into "P". It felt as if the "transmission" had given out. There was a light push (not quite a jolt) then it went into "P". After the third attempt, the vehicle finally drove as I accelerated. I was going through this process as quickly as possible since I had vehicles behind me in the busy streets of Down Town LA.
1)The computer screen has delays or freezes or rear view camera not always activates. Generally problem with software which can cause safety hazard when I’m driving an causes distraction if it’s not working. 2)traction control turns on automatically almost on all curved exits or entrances to the highway. Major safety concern as it’s affecting my driving - slows down vehicle, causing difficulty controlling the vehicle. 3)inaccurate battery reading, as it’s keep showing different percentage, and keeps changing inappropriately while driving. I wanted to say it is safety concern because for ex: I went for road trip had 150 miles (approx 70%) but then I drove for 30 miles and have 40 miles left (approx 20%) left so now I’m getting distracted from driving and need to find charging station. I know I can pull over and do that but the time when you notice and your reaction while driving can...
The rear window on our VW 2021 ID4, shattered while I was parked in a grocery store parking lot on Sunday, July 10, at approximately 7:30 am. The rear defrost had been turned on as I drove to the store. I shopped for about 15 minutes and came out of the store and sat down on the front driver seat, which starts up things like the radio and I believe the defrost again. This is when I heard an exploseion, got out of the car to see what had caused the vibration and sound, and looked to find that the glass was shattered inward and there was a hole as if a brick had been thrown through it. It was early in the morning and very few shoppers were in the parking lot, so I had a clear view of anyone running from the scene or hiding behind what few...
1. I picked up new ID.4 from the dealer on 10/01/2021. On 10/02/22, Electrical System Malfunction messages appeared on the infotainment, telling me to take it in for immediate repairs. The problem was taken care of. I was not told what was wrong. 2. On 11/10/2021, while pulling into a parking space in a lot at a cemetery, the car bolted forward and became unresponsive. I could not stop it, I could not steer it. It felt like it was driving itself. I destroyed a bench, some bushes, and some of the turf. The car had to be towed to a VW dealer affiliated collision center. The car was there for over two months and was returned to the dealership for "further diagnosis". In the end, I was told that it had been "driver error", and I was assured the car was 100% safe to drive. I was never told...
Electronic Stability Control ESC activates briefly under certain conditions that are completely normal. Smooth dry pavement. It happens for me very predictably on a specific curve on a 2-lane road. Vehicle speed is about 30, the curve in the road is very gentle, nothing extreme. Drive through this curve and ESC activates (flashes). It also happens very predictably at a T intersection where I stop and then turn right. During the turn the vehicle is cresting a hill. I have video of this happening. Also many other owners have complained about the same issue in situations like freeway off-ramps. ESC activating for no reason at all could distract the driver and cause an incident. There's a rapidly flashing amber warning in the driver display and the car's handling changes suddenly. How do we know that ESC won't activate more aggressively in some certain situation that doesn't warrant ESC.
