The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power with the check engine warning light and several other unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was restarted but the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. The contact was informed that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.
Car shuts off while driving on interstate, causing loss of power steering and requiring navigation to shoulder before restarting. Car will restart. This is an intermittent issue. Had car repair work replacing the Crank Shaft Position Sensor at KIA Dealership and after picking up, it happened twice in the same week. Dealership is not able to reproduce the issue and unable to resolve. Car is not safe to drive. This has occurred at least 5 times.
Engine stalling and slowing when going over 35 mph. Noticed recalls for other Kia engines for the same thing why have the Turbo engines not been recalled?? Not safe when you are getting on an interstate and traffic is going 80 mph.
I have the KSDS and the engine light came on right when my engine began shaking and knocking and died in the middle of downtown Chicago traffic while driving. I had it towed to the dealership and they stated that I had no compressions in a cylinder which is part of the engine and I needed a replacement engine. My vehicle had regular maintenance at Kia they change my oil, add coolant and anything that is needed and they never told me that it was burning oil and had any other issues nor did they at any time say the compression was low or going bad. If they didn’t notice how was I to know, it’s not tires where I can go put air in them. The incident was very frightening and sudden and could have cost bodily injury. The settlement states the rod bearing issue, however the compression cylinders...
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, there was a knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle to the independent mechanic at undisclosed speeds, the knocking sound increased in volume and the vehicle shut off. The vehicle was towed to the independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with a lower engine knock failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with the same failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.
I took my car to the Kia dealer because I burn I was smelling burn oil. They told me that it wasn’t burn oil. It was the rubber burning I replace the inner and I’m still smelling the oil burning. I’m putting in oil four times a week, and they still not tell me why I’m putting so much oil then I want to say because I do too much highway mileage that’s why I probably burn it so much oil, but that should be impossible.
My engine failed. I had to continuously fill it up with oil due to it going through oil like crazy. I scheduled a maintenance on it and the day of the appointment, a rod threw in my engine due to oil deprivation. i also had just put a quart of oil in the day BEFORE the engine went out. Kia states the engine recall is only for certain 2017 Kia’s - i say otherwise. there have been more people complain on facebook in a whole group where the same exact thing happened to them. i kept up on my maintenance. i loved my car. now i’m left to figure out 9k to fix the engine! this is not right. i have never been late on my payments, i have only had 1 place to change my oil and that is the dealership i purchased the vehicle from. i have no...
After an oil change and driving the vehicle 375 miles the oil level is between full and low. This would be an excessive oil consumption issue.
This engine is consuming oil in excess of 1.5 quarts per 1000 miles. This could leave to engine failure, resulting in loss of control and propulsion leading to a possible collision.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The vehicle's engine has failed and the timing is off, causing knocking sounds. The diagnostic results are indicating codes P0014 and P1326. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? There have been reports of the vehicle catching fire so if I continued to drive the vehicle it could result in a major catastrophic event. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, I had the vehicle diagnosed by an independent dealer, and the car is waiting for the next appointment to return to the KIA dealership where the initial purchase was made. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the...
first owner 2017 Kia Sportage SX (NOTE SX specifically) AWD 2.0L Turbo Gas Direct Injection (4-cyl engine) (no recalls found) - EXCESSIVE Oil Consumption since early/mid 2023 and continues still today, [XXX]. We lose over 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles, did not discover this until an oil change in early 2023 how low our oil was. No leaks then, no leaks now, oil maintenance performed, we have meticulous records and have been to the #1 Cochran Robinson Township Kia dealership where they have perform Kias required Oil Consumption Test that we've paid for. 1st set of test failed each time, dealership performed deep clean, and since there was only 3/4 quart loss, Kia had no further responsibilities. too busy with our small business over the holidays, started Oil Consumption test, again [XXX]. Every single time we hit 1,000 miles (monthly) we are down over 1+ quarts of oil,...
Engine failed on the highway. Car is part of the class action lawsuit but dealer is refusing to replace engine for free. Asking me to pay $7k. Claiming that DTC is reading P0303.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with failed rod bearings. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the engine was replaced with a used engine. The contact stated that the engine had previously been replaced three times by the dealer within three years. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with a failed engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced another time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
The car is consuming/leaking oil. The leak is from the oil pressure switch and traveling to the main engine harness which may cause a fire or engine to suddenly fail. Check engine light is on and the engine idles high due to Kia diagnosed Cam Phaser issue that had a TSB issued in 2016. This TSB was not completed during the warranty period, and Kia won't remedy this even though I owned the car when it was under warranty.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start on two occasions. The contact stated that on each occasion, the vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure, and the engine was replaced twice. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced at an independent mechanic, he was informed that there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced a third time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
I have taken my sportage to the service department multiple times due to having to add oil multiple times after an oil change. They told me that the engine needs to be fixed but won't fix it until the car stops working. Now they are telling us that it isn't going to matter because they aren't going to cover the engine.
I took my vehicle in three times for excessive oil consumption. It’s been going through three quarts every thousand miles. The first oil consumption test ran over by 100 miles and the dealer made me do another one. It was determined that 3 1/2 quarts of oil were burned in thousand miles . There was no other diagnostic done. The dealer told me that the warranty does not cover oil consumption when I advise them that oil consumption is a side effect of the real problem which is most likely the rod bearing issue and I did get the update so the engine is supposedly covered lifetime by Kia Dealer and Chia have been going back-and-forth to no resolution and today I was told that it’s a piston failure not rod failure, but neither of those things have been checked out. I was told I would have to pay for...
I was driving home on i-91 S when my car started smoking from under the hood. There were no warning lights and the temperature gauge read normal with the lever at the center. I pulled off at the next Exit and parked in a parking lot. I popped the hood and found that a fire had started around the engine. The fire grew to the point that the whole front half of the car was burned before the fire department was able to put it out. The vehicle was assessed by my insurance, but I think the extent of that was to determine whether it was a total loss (which it obviously was).
Driving as usual and all of a sudden no acceleration. No warning lights at all. Started smoking. Towed to Flynn’s. They said there is a known oil consumption issue and the motor locked up. Communicated with KIA and they say to have it looked at - at a cost. Said it’s not under warranty. But is a likely know issue!
I purchased a used vehicle by way of a loan from "Affinity Plus Credit Union." On 7/27/20 from "Royal Drive Autos" with an extended warranty sold through Affinity Plus Credit Union. The warranty was issued by Route 66 CO. Both parties (Bank & Warranty CO.) granted the loan and warranty understanding there was a “Prior Salvage” title and had been cleared to sell the vehicle. The vehicle has been serviced under recalls by KIA and Route 66 since the purchase of the vehicle. There was a major engine failure believed to be a recall issued by KIA. The vehicle had a “Flashing Engine” light and failed on 9/5/23. I took the vehicle to Luther Bloomington KIA to be serviced on 10/9/23, as this was the earliest appointment available. Once diagnosed the service advisor and the mechanics said that the engine would need to be replaced due to the failure of...
My car keeps burning oil at a rapid rate. I have to replace every 3 weeks.
My car has a circuit problem and that is causing my engine light go off. Kia is not taking any responsibility os this issue
My daughter and I were driving home from my brother's house, when we stopped by McDonald's to grab food, we noticed our car smoking really bad. I had her pull away from the drive-thru and into the empty parking lot. We got out just seconds before the car burst into flames from underneath the hood of the car.
The vehicle went into limp mode while driving on the interstate but the dealership is telling me there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. They are also telling me that there is no powertrain coverage on this vehicle since I am the second owner. With as many problems as Kia has had, I think it should be across the board for coverage on these so no one else suffers irreparable damage. I’ve had the car shut down on me many times but every single time I’ve taken it in for diagnostic testing I’ve been told there is nothing wrong with it. I call BS. If there was nothing wrong with it, it wouldn’t shut down on me while I’m driving it.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact stated that 5-quarts of oil were added every three months. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had been diagnosed by an independent mechanic who determined that cylinders #2, #3, and #4 were misfiring. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,365.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the check engine and the low oil pressure warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that she veered to the side of the road. The contact stated that she inspected the engine oil level and noticed that there was no oil in the engine. The contact stated that she added oil to the vehicle and drove to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that oil was leaking into the combustion chamber, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure because the warning lights were no longer illuminated and there was oil in the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V224000...
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at 20 MPH, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 132,899.
ENGINE LOSES AND USES OIL OF TWO QUARTS EVERY 3000 MILES
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that check engine warning light had started blinking. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V137000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, it was not confirmed if the failure was related to the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,038.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, there was a knocking and ticking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle continued driving but then stalled. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had seized. An anti-theft device was installed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was able to restart the vehicle with a pair of pliers. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 118,101.
End of July, the engine died on the highway when performing an emergency swerve to avoid a collision. This is an issue that is subject to the settlement of one of the several related class action lawsuits against Kia/Hyundai for catastrophic engine failures but not, to my knowledge, one of the specified engine models. There were no warning signs or indicators. No knocking, no noticeable oil consumption, no reported findings of metal filings or shavings in the oil at regular oil changes, no warning lights until it died at 70mph in highway traffic. Kia is replacing the engine with a refurb of the exact same engine model so I expect that it, too, will catastrophically fail at some point. I doubt the engine will be available for inspection by a third party, including the government, as the manufacturer is recycling them into refurbs to other affected vehicles. The local dealer...
I was driving on the freeway and my car suddenly jolted, smoked started pouring from the hood, and then immediately caught fire once I pulled off the road within minutes. There were no warnings, no engine lights, nothing that pointed to an issue until this happened. I was at risk of getting hit by others in the freeway — I luckily was able to get to the side of the road and immediately called 911. Fire department came within minutes, and dowsed the car, which was fully engulfed in flames.
About two months ago, my car began using excessive amounts of oil. Each time, I replaced the oil, the oil check light would come on after two weeks. I had the gasket replaced in the month of June, 2023. On July 2, 2023, on my way home from work, my vehicle began losing power. When I pulled over and turned the car off, it would not restart. When it did, it did not have power and it began to shake. On July 3, 2023, I took my car to the dealership and was later told by my service advisor that I needed a new engine. I was told that it was the combustion. My vehicle has been at the dealership for a month and 1 week.
Engine burns for an excessive amount of oil. The transmission stopped working
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road to restart the vehicle. The vehicle temporarily returned to normal functionality; however, the failure recurred. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the vehicle had experienced piston failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to tow the vehicle to another dealer. The failure mileage was 87,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil with the oil warning light illuminated. The contact had initially taken the vehicle to Crowley Kia (223 Broad St, Bristol, CT 06010) to be diagnosed. The diagnostic result was cylinder wall scoring due to piston rings failure. The vehicle was taken to another dealer and the contact was informed that the engine could not be replaced until the engine had failed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
Engine blew with 78000 miles.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact stated that 12 quarts of oil was added within a month. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.
On June 19th 2023, the engine to my 2017 Kia Sportage failed with little indication and time to response. Prior to this occurring, my Kia Sportage experienced two instances of limp mode which is an sensor program for the car to diminish efficiency to avoid continued failure. Whist I thought this issue was resolved on May 18 2023, after the first instance of limp mode, I was not fully prepared for the engine to fail so quickly. All three instances (twice limp mode and once engine failure) put my life at risk. The safety of the drivers around me were also endangered due to this taking place. The engine failure has been confirmed with Kia Motors/Greenway Kia West Dealership and both have agreed to replace the engine to my Kia Sportage. I was informed on 6/26 that Kia Motors requested a video of my engine failure. Details on this were...
Car engine will randomly not start, resulting in safety issue of being stranded in inclement weather and/or unsafe areas. Vehicle has been seen by two separate dealers for Kia who despite multiple attempts at service (5+) have been unable to resolve the issue. 12-5-22 Vehicle Purchased 12-6 Contacted Dealer Jeff Wyler Kia to report car not starting. My car is consuming oil at an alarming rate. This is a daily driver family car that my wife uses to drop and pick my daughter from and to school. I am really concerned the car is going to run of oil and could end up in more serious problem. I have informed the dealer twice and they even determined the car is consuming more than one quart of oil in less that 800 miles. That is way above the acceptable consumption rate of 1 quart per 1000 miles as specified in the national highway traffic safety administration recall I received in the mail. My main concern is the dealer refused to do anything. I have on record from the dealer the oil consumption test they performed but, I was told it was not covered by the recall. I was even informed that I will have to pay more $400...
After engine was replaced the car dash lights still come on and care looses power. I was just told my 2017 engine block is corroded as well as electrical wires and plugs and everything needs to be replaced at a charge of $5,000.
I have taken my 2017 kia sportage in the dealer several times due to loss of power and hesitation when trying to accelerate. They always say they cant find any issue. Also, my Kia is using or losing oil. I get oil changed every 5000 miles and the last two changes I had less then the low mark, barely showing on dip stick. I have had to add quarts of oil after only 2000 miles since oil change. Oil light does not come on, even when showing no oil on dip stick. It is very scary when I go to accelerate and nothing happens when trying to get on on rap for highway.
The engine was misfiring causing issues when trying to reach the posted speed limit. This was/is especially dangerous when having to get on the interstate where vehicles are going up to 80 mph. The engine light did come on. Took the vehicle to a certified KIA dealer where the confirmed the problem and said a new engine was needed. New engine was ordered and replaced (took 4 months to get new engine in) and then a month later the same thing happened again.
I got a 2017 Kia Sportage May 2022 and in September 2022 I started having problems with it I have taken it to the Kia dealership 3-4 times once even by tow. I have been told by the workers at the dealership that the engine needs to be replaced (car has roughly 87,000 miles). I was driving it down the road and it made a noise and lost power I literally had to floor it just to go around 30-40mph. Now it shakes, it's missing, and it has smoke coming from the exhaust on top of the oil consumption problem that I found out about after purchasing ad was told Kia knows about the problem. I haven't had it a year and can't drive it on the highway or nowhere else because of the possible engine fire hazard when I have a toddler in a car seat in the back...
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the roadway. The vehicle was towed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 107,000.
As I was driving one day my car began to "miss" or jump. The check engine light illuminated and began blinking. I took the truck home and parked it. The next day I cranked the vehicle to see what it would do. Smoke began coming from my exhaust. We turned the car off and I had someone check my oil. It was extremely low. I've had the car looked at by a professional. I was told the turbo is gone. I was quoted $4700 at one place and $7500 at another. This seems to be a similar issue everyone is having. I have a 2017 with 90K miles. I keep the vehicle maintained properly so I have no idea how this happened.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the failure was due to the age of the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Engine failure at 105,xxx miles. New short block engine at 105,xxx and loss of power at 110,xxx miles. Limp mode was able to reset after turning off the vehicle. It went in to limp mode several times. Dealership denies responsibility. Only goes into Limp mode at higher speeds making it even more dangerous. No check engine light.
CAR SHAKED EXSESSIVELY ENGINE LIGHT FLIKERED AND TURNED OFF IN TRAFFIC I HAD TTO COAST INTO A PARKING SPOT, DEALERSHIP SAYS I NEED A NEW ENGINE WHEN i ONLY HAD IT 2 YEARS DRIVEN LESS THEN 13000 MILES
