The front lower ball joints have repeatedly failed under recall. The dealer says I now have to pay to have it repaired properly, under recall
Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Liberty VIN: [XXX] Summary: The front lower ball joint on my 2006 Jeep Liberty failed while the vehicle was in normal use. This failure matches the defect described in NHTSA Recall 06V288000 (Chrysler F23), which involves corrosion and separation of the front lower ball joints. My VIN does not currently show this recall as open, but the failure occurred exactly as described in the recall documentation. Details: In November 2025, the front end of the vehicle collapsed due to a lower ball joint separation. The joint failed without warning, causing loss of steering control. The vehicle had to be towed home by AAA. The failure is consistent with the recall condition involving water intrusion, corrosion, and separation of the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. The local dealer was contacted and suggested an appointment, and that the rear control arm was not covered under warranty. I was driving down the freeway at 70 mph, and suddenly my car (2006 Jeep Liberty) felt as if the rear end was dragging and I began to lose control of my vehicle. The icy Michigan conditions were no help, but thankfully the drivers surrounding me were attentive and moved out of the way until i was able to regain control and pull onto the shoulder. I had my vehicle towed to a shop, where i was informed the rear control arm had fractured and in turn damaged the rear axle. I found out there was a recall for this EXACT problem on my car, a blessing because my family is struggling very badly financially. BUT, Chrysler says my vehicle's VIN is not listed on the recall and it is not their problem. Not only is this extremely dangerous for all drivers of these effected vehicles, but my kids missed...

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 13V252000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Structure) and 18V278000 (Suspension) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the abnormal sound was due to a lower control arm failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recalls repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Driver Front Lower Ball joint failed. Recalled ball joints were replaced in 2006. Spoke to Chrysler in 2020 about both lower ball joint boots being deteriorating and ball joints worn and rusty due to failure of recall work but refused to redo recall due to age of vehicle. Vehicle has less than 100k miles. Ball joint failed when turning from stop sign. Loud pop was heard and grinding from drivers side wheel.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated while exiting a parking lot and going over a small speed bump, the vehicle inadvertently lowered to the floor. The contact noticed that the ball joint had detached from the wheel. The vehicle was towed to a tire repair shop where the vehicle was diagnosed and the mechanic stated that the front suspension lower ball joint had separated from the wheel. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in Manufacturer Safety Recall: F23 (Lower Ball Joints). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated the vehicle was not included in Manufacturer Safety Recall: F23 (Lower Ball Joints) and advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 118,000.
The front lower ball joint on the passenger side broke in half which caused my tire to completely separate from the car. Luckily it happened in my driveway, but I had just gotten off the interstate going 75 mph. After replacing it, a closer inspection was done on both upper front ball joints and the driver side lower ball joint. All need replacement. It was a near miss crash, but mine and others safety is still on jeopardy because I can't afford to replace all of them. I haven’t received any recall information in the mail from the manufacturer.
The rear lower control arms on my car are about to break. One has holes all the way through. At 40 mph, vehicle shakes in back. Issue also causes stability control to malfunction. No Jeep dealers that I can use will make appointments before 06/27 even after being shown the terrible condition of the parts. Nor do they offer a loaner car. I contacted Jeep themselves and was offered NO manner of accommodation or compensation. I drive for a living, so I can either risk my safety, or give up two weeks income, and job, waiting for Jeep and it's dealers to fix defective equipment. If Jeep and their dealers are unable/unwilling to fix dangerous recalls in a timely manner, they should either afford customer a rental car, or offer to buy the vehicle at market value. My back rear control arms/suspension/alignment were recalled, I had them replaced. Now My front control arms/suspension/alignment are very unsafe to drive. Wobbly, unstable, loose, noises, screeching. It Feels like it’s going to break/snap/fall off. Yes my vehicle is available for inspection. I feel unsafe on turns especially. It could snap at any moment and my Jeep could roll injuring me or others. I had a tire/allignment center check the status. No warning lights or messages. The sound and issue has been going on since I got my jeep recall fixed. The dealership hit the front of my Jeep in the parking lot and still has not taken responsibility for their actions and damages done to my Jeep. I'VE HAD LOWER BALL JOINTS, BUSHING AND CONTROL ARMS ALREADY REPLACED ONCE IN 2017 AND NOW THEY ARE OUT AGAIN. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY MOPAR THAT MY 2006 LIBERTY WAS MADE 5 WEEKS AFTER THE LAST ONE INVOLVED IN THE RECALL.THIS IS INEXCUSABLE. I'VE HAD 3 WINDOW REGULATORS REPLACED. THIS IS A FATALITY WAITING TO HAPPEN IF I DRIVE. I STARTED HEARING AND FEELING THE BALL JOINTS GOING BAD ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. I HARDLY HAVE DRIVEN IT SINCE I WORK FROM HOME NOW. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR OTHER RECALLS AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT BALL JOINTS ARE VERY LOOSE AND THAT THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED ISSUE. I CHECKED THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND NOTICED THAT THE YEAR AND MAKE OF MY CAR HAD A RECALL FOR BALL JOINT ISSUES BUT MY VIN NUMBER WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY.
I WAS LEAVING MY PARKING LOT WHEN I HEARD A CLUNK AND MY DRIVER SIDE OF THE JEEP LOWERED. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED AND MY TIRE WAS TILTED AT AN ANGLE. A COUPLE OF MY NEIGHBORS LOOKED UNDER THE JEEP AND SAID THAT IT WAS THE BALL JOINT AND THAT THE AXLE WAS ON THE GROUND.
I THE VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THE LEFT SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT GOING BAD. THE TRANSMISSION MODULE IS TRIPPING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOWS (FRONT AND BACK) MAKES AWFUL SOUND GOING UP. THE AC COMPRESSOR HAS STOPPED WORKING.

1. FRONT UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING AS THEY SUPPOSED TO. IF THERE IS A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD THIS SUV VIHECLE GOT HIT STRONGLY. BOLTS ARE OUT OF ORDER TOO. ON MOTION MAKES LOTS OF NOISE AND SQUEEZING SOUNDS AS WELL. 2. INTERNAL ELECRICAL WIRING HAS SOME ISSUES. THE FRONT CEILING LIGHT GETS ON AND OFF ON ITS OWN. THE AIRCONTIONER LED LIGHT AS WELL.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, WHICH WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND THE FRONT BALL JOINTS HAD DISINTEGRATED CAUSING THE CONTROL ARM TO BREAK AND THE TIRE TO COLLAPSE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE LEFT PASSENGER SIDE IS ALSO DISINTEGRATING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WE ARE TOLD THAT OUR VIN WAS NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL BUT THE FAILURE WAS EXACTLY AS STATED IN THE F23 BULLETIN. CAR IS UNSAFE.

I OWN A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY THAT HAD A RECALL REPAIR COMPLETED ON THE FRONT BALL JOINT PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE IN 2012. SINCE THAT TIME, THE VEHICLE AGAIN HAD A PROBLEM WITH A BALL JOINT CORROSION IN THE SAME LOCATION RIGHT PASSENGER SUSPENSION. JERRY ULM REFUSED TO REPAIR THE BALL JOINT UNLESS I PAID FOR THE UPPER AND CONTROL ARM.. I HAD TO REPAIR THE ISSUE AT A LOCAL SHOP FOR $500. NOW IT IS MAKING A TERRIBLE SOUND AND I TRIED TO GET ANOTHER DEALER TO REPAIR IT ON A RECALL BUT THEY REFUSED.
REAR CONTROL ARM RUSTED AND BROKEN WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET DODGE CHRYSLER DODGE STILL HAS NOT REIIMBURSED ME FOR THIS AMOUNT TO THIS DATE

FURTHERMORE, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOW TO THE GROUND AND THE FRONT TIRES WERE RUBBING THE FRAME OF VEHICLE WHILE TURNING. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. MAC HAIK DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (5255 I-35, GEORGETOWN, TX 78626) WAS CONTACTED AND A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V278000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
FRONT LEFT LOWER BALL BROKE CAUSING TIRE AND WHEEL BLOWOUT AND LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AT 60 MPH. WAS ON HIGHWAY ON RIGHT HAND CURVE.

THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN DUE TO THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
RECALL THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES WHEN IT'S JUST START TO MOVE AND WHEN YOU START TO PUSH DOWN ON THE BRAKES TOO
I WAS LEAVING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT ONCE AGAIN BROKE. I REPLACED THIS PART JUST ONE YEAR AND ONE MONTH AGO.
DRIVING VEHICLE AND VEHICLE STARTED MAKING POPPING NOISES RIGHT REAR, AND VEHICLE FELT LIKE THE REAR END WAS FISHTAILING WHY FRONT WAS STILL GOING STRAIGHT. TOOK TO CERTIFIED DEALER AND THEY REPORTED UNSAFE VEHICLE REPORT FILED DUE TO FRAME ROTTED THROUGH ON RIGHT REAR WHERE LOWER CONTROL ARM ATTACHES TO THE FRAME. THIS IS A RECALL ITEM FOR 2006 JEEP LIBERTY IN MAY 2018 (U38). OUTREACHED TO MOPAR AND AS TOLD NO RECALL ON VIN FOR THIS YET IF AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED IT IS WHAT RECALL IS THEY WOULD FILE CLAIM. WHEN TOLD IT IS, WAS DOCUMENTED ON INVOICE, MOPAR STATED THEY NEVER SAID THAT, WAS NOTHING COULD DO, WOULD NOT FILE CLAIM AGAINST U38 RECALL, AND BECAUSE UNABLE TO FIX AND OLD VEHICLE NOTHING WOULD BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 285,000.

ON FRIDAY, 02/15/19, TRAVELING BACK FROM AUSTIN TO HOUSTON, TX, WITH MY 4 YEAR OLD SON FOR MY WEEKEND VISITATION, I HAD STOPPED AT THE ENTRANCE TO MY APT COMPLEX AND WAS WAITING FOR THE ACCESS GATE TO OPEN TO ENTER. TURNING RIGHT AND ELEVATING SLIGHTLY TO ENTER MY COMPLEX, I HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND FELT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE LOWER. I THOUGHT I HAD MANAGED TO RUN OVER THE CURB ALONG THE PUBLIC STREET AND TRIED TO REVERSE WHEN THE SAME LOUD GRINDING NOISE COULD BE HEARD. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED, PLACED THE CAR IN PARK, AND THEN GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO INSPECT. I COULD SEE THAT THE WHEEL WAS FOLDED INWARD TOWARDS THE VEHICLE. LOOKING UNDER THE CAR I COULD ALSO SEE THE LOWER CONTROL ARM NOW RESTING ON THE GROUND ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I HAD ZERO IDEA WHAT COULD'VE CAUSED...
