2011 HYUNDAI SONATA Steering Problems

My EPS light comes on and my steering wheel locks up the dealership says that isn’t a recall but I can pull it up and it says my car was affected by the sonata electric power steering control module recall . After taking my mom to the airport the vehicle engine blew up what absolutely no warning at all leave me on the side of the road the key keep getting stuck inside the car

My car when turned off locks but when turned back on will stay locked. Normally you can turn the car on and off a couple times and it will unlock itself but for the past couple months it is now impossible and is so unsafe to drive. I saw in 2009/2010 there was a recall for this with Hyundai and I’m pretty sure my car is now affected with the same thing but 2011 Hyundai sonata.

I started to get engine knocking noises about 6 months after the purchase of the used car. This knocking noise began to increase in frequency as I pressed my foot on the accelerator and the car would not accelerate when I pressed my foot on the gas pedal. Coupler in steering. Making loud clicking sounds and I was scared to drive car. I've contacted recalls I have a case number but get different answers. I just had it repaired a few days ago. Paid over $313. The service dept said they think it is the coupler because they had several complaints that week and sure enough they said it was the same thing . I believe it was a safety problem. EPS sensor indicator light comes on intermittently causes vehicle to lose power steering capabilities. independant repair shop can clear the code to restore, but remains a problem. we took vehicle to Hyndai dealership and was advised this vin number is not covered by recall 143. i believe this is a seroius safety issue. Dealership now wants $3108 to replace column and housing assembly and torque angle sensor harness not covered. vehicle was purchased 5/30/18 from another dealership and was told all recalls were addressed.

EPS and traction light came on when driving around 20mph making the wheel stiff and barely able to turn. Looked up 2011 Hyundai recalls and came across recall 143 regarding the steering column. Took car to dealer and they said no recalls found for my vehicle. I told them about what I found online and that I’m experiencing the same issues so I’m not sure why my 2011 wasn’t affected. They basically said too bad too sad. They still have my car so I’m hoping that they figure out my car should be apart of the recall campaign.

My engine has failed, and my steering wheel column has locked. I had the software update on my engine with Napleton that qualified me for a lifetime engine replacement. I submitted maintenance records for my car and pictures of my valvetrain that are well maintained, and hyundai denied my engine claim for exceptional maintenance neglect on Dec8. On December 14th, after reviewing my oil changes, they still denied me for using low quality oil that's obscured. The problem I am having with my car is oil, not being able to get to the pistons inside my engine. It's not fair when the company know they engines have a manufacture defect. Then they blame the customers for lack of maintenance to have an excuse not to replace the engine. Knowing that with or without oil changes in the hyundai sonata 2011 -2012 models the engines will eventually seize anyway.I've reached out...

I was driving home from work & out of NOWHERE the engine seized & power steering was very hard due to it being electric. Hyundai then denied my engine for "Lack of maintenance" AFTER they KNOWINGLY put my life & others t risk for even letting these cars be driving without proper caution or engine replacement.

The steering column is making a clicking noise, took to independent service center and they reported that the EPS motor will need to be replaced and is currently not a safety issue, but over time could be. I have not had any warning lamps or messages. I did notice that some 2011 Sonatas have been recalled for EPS issues, but my VIN shows no issues.

The driver seatbelt will not stay attached. I'm getting a code to replace steering column and was told the intermediate shaft is bad. Also the torque converter clutch is throwing a code. The engine has been replaced which only has 4k miles on it.

UNKNOWN....Dome lights got switched and the car wouldnt turn back on after that.. Thought it was the alternator so a brand new one got put in it... Wasnt it.... Thought it was the battery terminal so got a brand new 1 of those... Not it.... Without the key being in the center console faub the car doesnt have power at all..... There is looseness/excessive play in the steering, causing a jerkiness motion side-to-side with minimal movement of the steering wheel. There is also a clunking noise when turning and when going over bumps in the road, sometimes the bumps cause the steering wheel to jerk to the side resulting in the car veering to the left or right. When this occurs traveling at a higher speed, I'm afraid it could result in either veering into the ditch or into oncoming traffic. I had my mechanic inspect the issue, thinking it was a suspension problem, but was informed it was a faulty "steering column flexible coupler" that is a known issue with this particular vehicle. This steering issue seems to be getting worse and worse by the day.

MY EPS (ELECTRIC POWER STEERING) LIGHT AND TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP.

AFTER PURCHASING THIS CAR IN 2018, I LEARNED THIS VEHICLE HAD MANY RECALLS. AFTER DISAGREEMENTS AND ARGUMENTS HYUNDAI, SUPPOSEDLY INSTALLED A BRAND NEW ENGINE. I WAS THEN NOTIFIED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE OTHER 'RECALLS' ON THIS VEHICLE. AFTER MORE DEBATES AND ARGUMENTS THEY CLEARED OUT ALL OF THE 'RECALLS' ON THIS VEHICLE AS IF THEY WERE FIXED, AND THEY WERE NOT FIXED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. I STILL HAVE MANY ISSUES WITH THE 'SO-CALLED' RECALLS SUCH AS AIRBAGS, DRIVER SEATBELT AND STEERING COLUMN.

I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE FROM A LOCAL DEALERSHIP A WEEK AGO. THE HORN AND NONE OF THE FEATURES ON THE STEERING WHEEL WORK. THE FRONT PANEL OF THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LOSE. I ALSO SMELL GAS OFTEN AND MY LEFT MUFFLER SMOKES AND I SOMETIMES SMELL BURNING RUBBER. NAVIGATION DOES NOT WORK AS IT SHOULD AND MY XM FEATURES DON'T WORK BECAUSE OF A BAD XM ANTENNA (SHARK FIN.) THERE IS VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEN BRAKING. MY TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT BLINKS AND THEN STAYS ON. THE KEY DOESN'T OPERATE THE LOCKS SOMETIMES.

STEERING GETS LOCKED WHILE DRIVING CANNOT MAKE RITE OR LEFT TURNS AS NEEDED, ALSO IT MAKES KNOCKINGS SOUND WHILE TURNING. CAR GOT 45OOO MILES & GOT 6-7 RECALLS FOR DEFERENT ITEMS, VERY DANGEROUS, ALMOST INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT COUPLE OF TIMES. CALLED DEALER, THEY SAID IS NOT COVER IN WARRANTY & IT COST $500 TO 1000 DEPEND ON PARTS, LABOR REQUIRED.

FRONT DRIVER STRUT COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE PARKED . POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR COUPLING GEAR BROKE .

THERE IS A THUMPING COMING FROM THE DRIVER FRONT WHEEL AREA WHEN GOING OVER MINOR BUMPS. UPON TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT WHEN AT A STOP THERE IS A CLUNCKING SOUND. DRIVING AROUND 55 CAR SHAKES. SUSPECT STEERING COUPLER

WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND GOING TO DO A TURN THE WHEEL TURN TO THE OTHER SIDE BY ITSELF. I WENT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP ON ROUTE FOUR TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC. THEY REPLACED MY STEERING COLUMN AND MY BRAKES.

WHILE DRIVING THERE IS A NOTICEABLE "CLICKING" NOISE, ESPECIALLY WHILE TURNING THE VEHICLE. AND IT IS GETTING LOUDER. HAS BEEN OCCURRING THE PAST TWO MONTHS.

MY ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR 6 MONTHS AND I HAD THE TIMER SENSOR REPLACED TWICE. AND IT IS STILL ON. MY CAR STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AT TIMES. THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CRACKING NOISE WHILE PARKING OR PULLING OUT. ALSO MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON CONTINUOUS FOR 6 MONTHS OVER THE STEERING WHEEL. KEEP TAKING IT TO THE SHOP AND TOLD TO CHECK RECALLS BUT MY CAR IS NEVER LISTED.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 164,295.

HARD TO STEER AND CONTROL, THERE IS A CLICKING SOUND WHEN IN MOTION. IT IS CONSTANT WEATHER I'M DRIVING IN THE CITY OR HWY. IT'S BEEN HAPPEN FOR OVER 2 MOS. BUT JUST STARTED TO GET WORSE. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER WHAT SPEED I'M GOING.

MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND MY RADIO BLEW OUT AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AND WON'T GO OUT. I'M

I STARTING HEARING A CLICKING THEN THE CAR LOST ALL POWER, STEERING WAS SO STIFF, BRAKES WOULD NOT PRSS DOWN I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD THEN SMOKE WAS POURING OUT THE FRONT. I COULD SMELL WIRES BURING WE POUR WATER DOWN IN THE MOTOR BUT THE HOSES WERE STILL HOT TO THE TOUCH. THE CAR WILL NOT RESTART. I SCARED ME TO DEATH IN SO GLAD I SLOWED DOWN. I BOUGHT THE CAR LESS THAN 1YR AGO. DONT DEALERS HAVE TO CHECK THESE THINGS. I'M SO FRUSTRATED. SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SELL A CAR IF YOU KNOW THERES AN OPEN RECALL. I'M THANKFUL MY KIDS WERENT WITH ME.

THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND THE STEERING HAS SLOWLY GOTTEN REALLY LOOSE AND MAKING CLICKING SOUNDS. IT NOW ALMOST HITCHES WHEN YOU TURN IT AND OUR MECHANIC SAID IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. HE ALSO CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY INFO ON BOTH THE STEERING AND THE AIRBAG. WE THEN TOOK IT FROM OUR PERSONAL MECHANIC TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DUE TO THE INCORRECT CODE DURING DIAGNOSTICS. THE CHARGE IS GOING TO BE $1950.00 TO FIX IT AS IT NEEDS A WHOLE NEW STEERING COLUMN AND COUPLER AND SOMETHING ELSE. WE HAVE HAD SO MANY RECALLS FIXED ON THIS CAR THAT IT'S GETTING RIDICULOUS. I...

DRIVERS SIDE SEATBELT POPS LOSE. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE REPLACED UNDER RECALL169. IT HAPPENS WHEN I'M DRIVING. MY BREAK LIGHTS BURN OUT A LOT FASTER THAN USUAL ( 2 WEEKS). THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT BURNED THE PLASTIC UNIT WHERE THE LIGHT BULB IS INSERTED. THERE IS A CRACK IN MY STEERING WHEEL CUP WHICH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND I THINK IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THAT AS WELL.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LINKAGE FROM THE STEERING COLUMN DETACHED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT IT WOULD BE A WEEK TO TWO WEEKS BEFORE SOMEONE WOULD GET BACK TO THE VEHICLE OWNER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 165,000.
