Dash Lights flash, alarm sounds and Battery drains randomly.
This error keeps popping up. Honda won’t fix it. Keyless start system problem error. This is an known error with the specific 2016 Honda Pilot model. I see 100s of people online with the same error. But Honda won’t fix it for free.
Random triggered alarming caused during flickering and clicking of dashboard lights leading to battery drainage. Many reports of this same instance occurring with this particular model. It appears to be a faulty keyless control module that now many Americans have had no choice but to pay $800 to replace in the absence of what obviously should be a recall at this point.
The Pilot defaults to the automatic engine shutoff when the brake is pressed. Several times, my car would shut off at the stop, but not restart when I took my foot off the pedal. When I'd go to restart the car, pressing the Start Engine button would just turn on accessories - it would never engage the gas/ignition. I'd have to give it a few minutes. I took it to my dealership who replaced the push button ignition. I had googled the issue and saw others had the same issue and warning message about the brake mitigation system, I saw that it was likely related to the brake booster/vacuum hose. I brought it back to the dealer the following month as the shut off had happened again and explained again about finding the brake booster as the issue. They replaced the part and the stall out hasn't happened again. It...
Keyless start/stop button does not work. Honda dealership says it is not active recall but switched was replaced at 88000 miles.
Last Fall I was driving, exiting freeway, I slowed down before I got to traffic light, then my vehicle stalled. I looked down and push the drive button (i had the auto idle-stop on), then pressed on gas, but car would not move. I pushed the start button twice and nothing happened. After a few minutes I pushed the start button gain and the vehicle started. I was in the middle lane and thankfully no one was behind me when this happened. Similar issue happened to my husband last week after car was picked up from Honda dealer for Transmission fluid exchange ( I in passenger seat). We were exiting the freeway going into another freeway, we slowed down because there was bumper to bumper traffic when the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was on auto idle-stop on. My husband pushed the park button, then the drive button but noting happened....
Vehicle stalls and shuts off at a stop when engine idle stop is enabled. All lights on dashboard are illuminated and vehicle automatically sets to N gear. Upon attempting to restart engine, It takes several attempts to put vehicle back into P gear and start engine by pressing the push start button as well has having foot on the brake pedal. After doing so, the vehicle will start up right away and can be driven off normally with no warning lights illuminated on dash. This issue has happened numerous times. When engine idle stop is disabled, it does not happen. Battery has been replaced as well as push start button switch per service bulletin 20-117. Software update for TCM/PGM has also been performed as per set DTC P2638 (torque management feedback signal A range/performance) U1211 lost communication with shifter, U0404 invalid data received from shifter. Dealership has not been able...
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle would stall upon the depression of the accelerator pedal with either the Collision Mitigation Failure or Shift to Park and Restart Vehicle messages were displayed on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer several times for the same failure; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that upon disabling the auto idle-stop feature, the failure did not occur; however, the feature had to be manually disabled each time upon the start of the vehicle. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer and was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. The VIN was not available.
Driving the vehicle started to quickly lose power for about 15 seconds and it stalled while at speed on an interstate. Luckily I was in the right lane and was able to pull out of traffic onto the shoulder. The car had all the lights flash on the dashboard. The check engine, the hill assist, the oil, power steering, etc...i mean all the lights. I turned the car off through its power button and waiting about a meeting and attempted to restart the vehicle. It would not restart. I repeated this action. After two more failed attempts i went and opened the hood to check to see if there was a visible problems or potential a lose sensor connection. The engine looked ok. The main sensors were connected. I again tried to restart the car. The car started and drove about half a mile before losing power again. I repeated...
No accident. Keyless warning light on. nothing wrong with vehicle. you tube full of same complaints. some cars are covered and some not. have replaced batteries etc etc
The vehicle is equipped with idle stop if I don’t disengage it when the vehicle is started. At a stop when the vehicle shuts down if completely shuts down and then you have to shift into park. To restart the vehicle. My radio/ gps unit also goes black and shuts off while I am driving and reboots.
AUTO IDLE SYSTEM FAILS. AUTO IDEL TURNS OFF ENGINE AT STOPS AND FAILS TO RESTART ENGINE WHEN FOOT IS REMOVED FROM BRAKE. MUST RESTART CAR. ERRORS ON DASH WHICH MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH ISSUE: CHARGING SYSTEM ERROR AUTO ENGINE IDLE STOP SYSTEM PROBLEM KEY FOB ERROR
I received a letter in the mail from Honda North America in early 2022 stating that my vehicle/vin was covered under an extended warranty on emissions systems problems. HONDA TSB 20-100. I took my car in to the local dealer, dealer performed a software update, 2 days after software update, all warning lights turn on in dash and do not go away. Check engine light, Power steering problem , hill start assist, vehicle stability control, trailer assist, traction control. Took vehicle back to the dealership. The service advisor takes the car back and when I return a few hours later he states that his technician informed him the injectors must also be replaced when the software update is done. Then I am informed that due to previous salvage history (from 2017) the vehicle emissions warranty extension will not be covered by Honda and I will be required to pay roughly...
Warning light message for keyless start system. Doors won’t lock. Car won’t start at times. I’m afraid I will get stranded.
Unpredictably when my auto idle is engaged my vehicle will stall, resulting in me being unable to move my vehicle without forcing a prompted restart. This occurs at very random times to include when I am stopped at a stop light, waiting in a drive-thru line, in traffic, or any additional times when the auto idle engages. This is very dangerous because it results in my vehicle being an unexpected stalled obstacle for all participants on the road. The vehicle has been inspected and the engine start/stop button has been replaced twice. Unknown if there were any warning laps messages or other symptoms.
It shows keyless start system problem. Car has 61500 miles.
Our 2016 Honda Pilot recently had dash panel flickering, relays clicking and alarm going off after car was locked up. Reading more about this issue, it seems that a lot of people with the same year 2016 Honda Pilot were having the same issue. Reference this website link -- https://www.piloteers.org/threads/2016-pilot-electrical-issue-possible-keyless-control-unit-panel-relays-flicker-alarm-goes-off-unexpectedly.169315/page-2. Unfortunately, the manufacturing has failed to communicate this to the public, and we had to let our autobody Honda dealership about this widespread issue. A resolution that was explained by some on this website was replacing the keyless control unit, which by the way is on a nationwide backorder. Which is peculiar? This is apparently an issue with this specific model year, and Honda not addressing the issue is a problem. The customer shouldn't bear the responsibility of paying for this electrical or component issue with their vehicle. It seems like this could be a potential safety issue too, if...
We are new with this vehicle and a couple times now we couldn’t open the drivers door to get out. When you put the car in gear it auto locks which it should. But however after parking and shutting the car off the drivers door wouldn’t unlock. My wife even got out went are to try and open it and it wouldn’t open but after several try’s and panicking it finally opened. Now this has happened a couple times already. I keep checking for a recall on this cause I pray there is never an emergency/accident and I can’t exit the car and being elderly I can’t climb over the console to get to another door. Cause it’s only happens to the drivers door only. I did just get a recall in the mail today for the hood which I will take care of.
Keyless Start System Problem. Error message comes on and will not go away. Tried replacing the Ignition start button.
The car on prior occasions would not start and it would show emission alert as well as other alerts, have the car for servicing and they started checking and replacing everything. Same problem happened 2 weeks ago but resolved on its own. Today while driving, all the emergency lights came on including emissions malfunction, as well as other malfunction and then accelerator was not working, D was flashing and started making clicking sounds in transmission. Luckily we were close to a fire station house and stopped there, where the car was not going into park, was not changing any gears to reverse or neutral and when turned on, all emergency lights were flashing and could not even get it into neutral to push it away as it seemed to be transmission wheel jammed. Also a burning smell came from the engine when we attempted to restart and put in gear...
When on the road and you stop at traffic light with auto stop and go the car shuts off completely. It won’t start afterwards and car needs to be placed in park and turned back on. Though this isn’t an immediate solution. The car has been brought in multiple times into dealer. Changed battery couple times and problem persists regardless of what they do and they continue to say they don’t see anything. Though it still continues and is completely dangerous.
Vehicle unexpectedly and unpredictably shuts down when stopped for a red light, at stop sign, or for an extended break period. Vehicle does not immediately restart after shutting off. Vehicle is available for inspection; however, given the safety concerns for our family and unanswered questions from Honda with no resolution in sight, we plan to buy a new vehicle. Vehicle has been disabled when it shuts down in the middle of intersections with cars swerving to avoid. It puts vehicle occupants and other drivers at risk of an accident. Dealer cannot reproduce. After the 1st instance, dealer claimed they found info that was sent to Honda corporate. Vehicle has been inspected by dealership with Honda corporate involvement 3 times. After the 1st time, Honda corporate/dealership replaced battery and state of charge sensor at no cost even though vehicle was not under warranty. After 2nd time, Honda said valves may need...
I have 2 problems. First my error is Keyless Start System Problem, that also will not auto lock the car when I walk away with the keys. Second is every once in awhile they audio system will completely reset itself.
Auto engine idle malfunction: engine would not restart when brake pedal released. Dash instructed to shift into park. All electrical stayed on, but engine would not restart for several minutes. With electronic shifting, wasn't even able to get into neutral to get out of the way of traffic. At busy intersections, being stranded could be very dangerous or even fatal.
When stopped at a light, the idle auto engine off feature turned off the engine, then when I remove my foot from the pedal, the engine fails to start again. After several attempts to start the engine it finally will start, but this has left me stalled at intersections on several occasions for up to 2 minutes. Honda has stated that this is a known issue with no known fix which is distressing and unacceptable.
My 2016 Honda Pilot Touring randomly completely shuts off at traffic lights rather than restart in the automatic shut off. It displays "Shift to Park" on the dash. This has been occurring for the past 2 1/2 years and has been reported to both Honda and the dealerships with no resolution. Despite my numerous reports to both Honda and dealership, only two times have they documented as requested. The past 8 months it has been occurring more frequently and has become increasingly difficult to restart. The past two times, I have been in a location with high speed limits so traffic approaching from the rear was coming at high speeds. The first of these recent incidents, it took 6 attempts to restart the vehicle and the second time I lost count. These situations were terrifying to the point I am no longer wanting to keep this vehicle. I can't help...
At a stop when the idle stop shuts the engine off, the car will not restart automatically like it's supposed to and I'm stuck in the intersection until I can get the car to restart. This is obviously very dangerous. Others with Honda Pilots are having the same issue. This needs to be addressed. This has happened many times over the past 4 months.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while stopped at a red light and after releasing the brake pedal the fuel-saving feature had malfunctioned and the engine did not immediately restart. During the incident, the message "put vehicle to park mode" had displayed. The contact indicated that the failure was very intermittent and when the vehicle was taken to the local dealer the failure could not be duplicated therefore no problem was found and no service was performed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
The car, when at idle, and the "idle start/stop" feature is active, does not restart. The car stalls, loses all power, including hazard lights. This happens at busy intersections, and the car is able to be started again after several minutes. The las time it occurred, the power was not restored until the hood was popped (while on a major highway in the left lane) and battery power cable checked. The power suddenly was restored and the car was able to be restarted. After which, error appeared on screen for power failure. We purchased this car used in April 2021, and this issue has occurred consistently (at least weekly) since the beginning of May 2021. The last incident occurred on October 1st. The car has been at the dealer since October 5th, and they have been unable to diagnose or recreate the issue.
At 40,000 miles the vehicle was receiving the following WARNING message when started:Keyless System Start Problem. For 3 years it has consistently gone on and off for days. Honda states it’s a key fob battery change need - when this does NOT fix the problem. I am now being repeatedly referred back to their service dept. to pay for diagnostic when they know that this is a manufacturer issue.
We've experience two instances where at a stop light, while under braking and the auto engine has idled, the car shuts off and after a long delay appears to restart its ECU and displays a prompt on the display to start the car again. This was of particular concern as we were at a stoplight on a rather busy crossing of a local freeway with heavy truck traffic for local manufacturers. There was no warning prior to the car shutting itself off. After it shut off, it triggered nearly every Honda warning symbol on the dash: LCAS, ABS, etc. all reporting problems.
Auto engine Idle shut/off malfunctioning. At red light...when turned green, took foot off brake to accelerate...car completely shut off. Dashboard lights came on and instructed to shift vehicle to park and restart. Vehicle in rear view coming up fast and thought I was going to be rear-ended and quickly found hazard lights and luckily driver was paying attention and shifted to other lane. Never happened when brand new now happening few times a week. Of course am making an appt with Honda but if they can't replicate the problem in the shop they can't/won't fix. This is a safety issue and people are going to get rear ended! Honda needs to rectify this situation as I have seen many threads with others stating the same problem.
My Honda Pilot2016 has intermittent “keyless start system problem”. The error comes and goes, it once caused me not able to start the engine. From online forums, this looks like to a common issue of Honda Pilot 2016. I am very concerned with my safety when I drive this car.
My wife was driving the kids to school, stopped at a busy intersection. The engine idle-stop feature stopped the engine, and when my wife hit the gas, the car wouldn't restart. It required several attempts. This happens sporadically with the car, and it's happened on numerous occasions. Others have reported the same problem on Honda Pilot forums (https://www.piloteers.org/threads/2016-wont-start-after-idle-stop.158131/). The battery was replaced a couple of years ago after the first several times this happened, but both the battery and alternator test healthy. There is clearly a design flaw with this stop/start feature. My wife was left stranded for a few minutes at a busy intersection, with fast-moving cars, with my kids in the car.
Automatic idle engine was enable and once I took my foot off the brake, the car stalled. I was unable to start the car for a minute or two and had to turn off the entire car and then restart. This has happened multiple times before this occasion.
Keyless start system problem on the screen when starting the car
Keyless start system problem appeared at about 40K miles. Now auto lock feature doesn’t work. At 45k miles now it’s appeared again and doesn’t go away. Many other owners of same car report similar issue apparently
The car was traveling on a highway and stopped responding while quickly decelerating all the while rolling through all of the warning sign sign screens. Luckily was in I side lane and able to hop curb to pull off to shoulder. Every time we take to dealer they claim it’s a known problem and “reboot” system. Then seems to work ok for a while. This is the fifth or sixth time taking back to dealer. This time almost caused an accident. I’m starting to think the vehicle is not fit to be on the road.
Keyless Start System error in the 2016 causes a risk of being stranded without the ability to start vehicle. There is no option on the car to use a manual key for starting. You can get the door open with a manual key, but not operate the car engine. There is nothing wrong with the engine. It’s a safety issue.
Remote key start error
The vehicle is starting itself in accessory mode. It is completely off, no one around, no one touching the key fobs, and it will just try to start itself. Because no one is inside of the car pressing the brake, it just defaults to accessory mode. The vehicle is just turning itself on by itself. When the vehicle is locked, this triggers the alarm.
Got a “Keyless Start System Problem” message on the display board. Changed the batteries in the key fobs and the message won’t clear.
At a stop light the vehicle will intermittently, during the idle stop sequence, not restart. I have had it to the dealer for this problem where the outcome was NTF. I had the battery replaced and the vehicle still does this on occasion. In order to restart it must be placed in park, powered down, powered back up and then you can restart. This process on average takes 15 to 20 seconds. In a busy intersection this is very stressful as cars behind you start to honk and yell as you try and keep your cool to go through the restart process.
Emission problem system keeps lighting up, going to service with Honda 3x times but engine light keeps popping up, replaced knock sensor failure at first, then still pop up, they figured out now it’s 2 bank failure, need to replace engine harness and knock sensors sub harness, p0328, p0333. It will cause acceleration problem
I get a keyless start system error that hasn’t been fixed with changing out the battery on the remote. From reading about this, it is a major issue with the Honda Pilots
"remote start system Problem" is displayed and starting and shutoff of vehicle
THE ENGINE AUTO/STOP FEATURE HAD FAILED 3 TIMES IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE FEATURE TURNS OFF THE ENGINE WHEN STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AND DOES NOT TURN BACK ON AND DISENGAGES THE CAR.
THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTO SHUT OFF AND RESTART FEATURE. THERE ARE MANY INSTANCES WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AT A STOPLIGHT OR IN A PARKING LOT AND THEN DOES NOT RESTART AUTOMATICALLY AS IT SHOULD. THE VEHICLE MUST BE POWERED OFF AND ON MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WILL RESTART. THERE SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY SENSOR OR SOME THING. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP HAS PROVIDED NO EXPLANATION EXCEPT IT'S A BATTERY ISSUE WHICH IT IS NOT CONNECTED AS WE HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY. I AM CONCERNED THAT WHEN I AM IN TRAFFIC AT A STOPLIGHT IF I HAVE FORGOTTEN TO PRESS THE BUTTON TO DISENGAGE THE AUTO RESTART THEN I'LL BE STRANDED WHILE TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR. IT HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT THE LAST 18 MONTHS.
RECURRING PROBLEM WITH IDLE STOP FEATURE CAUSING CAR ENGINE TO SHUT OFF COMPLETELY (EVEN WHEN DISABLED), RESULTING IN AN ERROR MESSAGE AND REQUIRING THE CAR TO BE TURNED OFF AND ON. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY IF IN AN INTERSECTION WHILE TURNING.
