The cars emergency horn will go on for no reason and the dashboard lights will flicker on and off. Honda dealer has my car and the part is back ordered now for 2 weeks and they don’t know when it is coming in. I have been reading several issues with this. This needs to be recalled with so many having issues and it being about $800.00 to repair
Auto-Idle Stop Feature malfunctioned at intersection. Engine failed to restart which required towing. None of the systems of the vehicle were able to be reactivated, including hazard lights. This created a major safety hazard, as incident occurred at busy intersection. Honda dealer informed me that this issue was just recalled. I received documentation from Honda that my vehicle was eligible for repairs, but this arrived after the car died and failed to restart. The Honda dealer was able to replace several gaskets, starter relays and assays which Honda claims fixes the issue. There is no way to permanently disable the auto-idle stop feature, it must be manually disabled each time the car is started. I have not, and likely will not, test the functionality of the auto-idle stop feature again given the numerous reports I have read regarding the issue.
I see couple of safety concerns with 2016 Honda Pilot touring. 1) There is no option to disable 'tailgate opening & closing by FOB' in 2016 Honda Pilot touring. Even with an unintentional small press of fob key tailgate button, the tailgate can open & hit anybody (may be the car next in school lane) or anything in the back (may be garage door) 2) There is no option to adjust height of tailgate in 2016 Honda Pilot touring. It can hit top of garage of any house & cause safety issue Honda should take action to recall & rectify those part for human & property safety.
idle-stop feature. When the idle-stop feature activates as the vehicle is stopped at a traffic signal, the vehicle fails to restart when the brake is released and accelerator pedal pressed. I turn on the emergency flashers. The vehicle usually restarts within 3 minutes. I am afraid I will be rear-ended at high speed as I am stopped at a green traffic signal. This also causes others drivers to swerve around my vehicle causing unnecesary danger. This happens weekly.
The instrument panel is flashing all alerts when the car is off. I am able to drive the car. It is unknown which component has malfunctioned. Several Honda owners on Google say to check the fuel injectors. I am hoping you all can assist me with that. My safety was put at risk as the alarm goes off randomly when the car is off. It is bothersome at my workplace. I am afraid to drive the vehicle. One of the alerts that flashes is the Antilock Brake System. I am afraid the brakes will go out during driving. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer. I hope to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. All warning lamps and messages were blinking after the car was turned off. There were no signs of issues prior to turning the car off. Since the first initial flashing of alerts, the...
My car has suddenly started showing "Keyless Start System Problem" when i start the car. While the car starts okay when i press the ignition, i am scared that the car may not suddenly start as usual and i can get stuck if it does not. - Also when the "Keyless Start System Problem" is shown on the dashboard in orange, it prevents us from seeing any other information on the dashboard (including speed etc) - I thought looking at some videos that it may be a battery issue with my remote. However even after I changed the battery (an original replacement for the battery of the remote start / Driver 2 Key), the issue shown on my dash board does not go away. - After researching it online, it seems it is a pretty common problem with 2016 to 2018 Honda Pilots (esp Honda Pilot 2016 for which there...
The auto-stop idle feature activated at a red light. When the light turned green, the automobile would not restart but became entirely dead with not even being able to turn on the headlights or hazards (this was during the night as well). As a result, my family had to hang out the window to try and flag cars approaching the intersection to keep from being hit. The vehicle was taken to a Honda dealership the next day at which time the incident could not be replicated as either a code was not thrown or the code was not saved. The dealership did state that there was a recall that required a software update which they performed but when researching this only addresses the tolerances for which when the auto-idle stop will be initiated and not to mitigate the "black-out" that can occur. Escalated to Honda and found it curious that...
After 30 - 40 minutes of driving the audio is overcome by extreme static and popping and affects all componets ( radio, DVD, XM, CD, etc) would seem something is getting hot after 30 minutes so a possible fire or melting situation . Honda dealer does not seem to know an answer and this issue is being discussed on Honda Pilot owners blog and it quite widespread
Keyless entry problem error continues to pop up. Car will not always shut off. At times when I’m stopped at traffic light it tells me to put car in park
My car (2016 Honda Pilot Touring) SHUTS DOWN due to the auto shut off feature at least once a month and I am very nervous to hand it over to my daughter in a next year when she is old enough to drive. I have been stalled out at intersections...it is irresponsible of Honda to not issue a recall. People are going to get into accidents if they can't start their car in the middle of intersections! Why is this not being recalled. I understand it will cost Honda a substantial amount of money to correct, but it has to happen. What if you have an older battery that is losing its charge. Does this mean that WE are to blame for getting into an accident because the battery is not brand new and can't handle this auto shut off feature? It's totally unacceptable! I realize we can turn the...
The car consistently stalls out when we stop and the auto idle begins. When we remove foot from break the car doesn’t restart and takes a few minutes of turning it on/off before vehicle resumes functioning. Honda says nothing is wrong but it has been an issue since purchase. It is more likely to occur when ac is running. I have to manually turn off auto idle every time I turn on vehicle to prevent stalling.
2016 Pilot Touring electrical issue, issue with keyless control unit, panel / relays flicker, alarm goes off unexpectedly.
The automatic start/stop function works intermittently when I come to a complete stop or turn off the car for a short amount of time. Most of the time, when I make a complete stop, the Honda Pilot won't automatically restart. I have to put the Honda Pilot in park and restart the engine, which still doesn't work. I have to wait a significant amount of time before reattempting the ignition. If I disable the automatic shut-off feature when I turn on the Honda Pilot, the SUV drives like normal. However, there is no permanent vehicle setting to disable the automatic shut-off. Lastly, the SUV usually won't restart even if I make a short duration stop, such as pump gas or running inside a store. At first this was a rare occurrence. Over tha past year, the Honda Pilot has gotten worse. Now, it's an everyday occurrence.
Beginning in the summer of 2020, intermittently when the auto idle was engaged the engine will not restart but will stall out and requires multiple efforts to restart the engine. It does not happen every time auto idle engages. It seems to happen more in the summer months. It has happened while at traffic lights, stop signs and while idling in heavy traffic. The safety of myself and my family is at risk due to having to put the car in park and go through several rounds of attempting to restart the engine. Just before the engine turns off, there is a flash of a warning light for the collision mitigation system. I took it to my local repair shop. They thought it might be the ignition switch and replaced it. That did not help. My local repair shop based upon their knowledge from other pilot owners said it was...
Keyless remote control unit does not shut off therefore draining the battery, therefore car doesn’t start. I have been through two new batteries within 60 days.
When stopped at a stop sign, the engine cut off but the interior electronics stayed on. We were unable to restart the car engine , and we couldn’t turn the car off either. Every time we pushed the stop/start ignition button, it would try to start the car, but fail. However, it would leave the car on in the “on” or “accessory” type mode with all the dash lamps on. We were stuck there for over five minutes trying to get it to restart or turn off. We were afraid to leave the car to get help because we couldn’t turn the car completely off. In the meantime we were obstructing traffic. We were finally able to get it started and went straight home. The next morning I took the car in to my Honda dealership and they said the battery tested as good and there were no error codes...
2016 HONDA PILOT AWD TOURING. 78,706 miles. Multiple incidents of car breaking without warning. Today, while driving on interstate at 70 mph the vehicle suddenly/without warning braked causing neck stain and nearly rear-ended by a semi truck. Similar reports on the internet point to the CMBS on this make and model. Also, the monitor screen goes dark intermittently and the vehicle stalls at stop light. The sudden braking is dangerous and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. I have reported this incident to the Am. Honda Corporation through their website.
The engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. Vehicle must be placed in park and attempt to restart. Sometimes restart does not happen for several tries. Has happened 10-15 times over the last 3 years, since around 30,000 miles, and dealership has tried investigating and have failed to remedy after 3 separate visits. Date indicated in this report is the latest occurrence.
When coming to a stop the vehicle engine’s automatic stop/start system stops the engine then multiple warning lights are on and the vehicle fails to restart automatically. Driver must work through a series of steps while sitting at an intersection or stoplight resulting in a vulnerable position.
I have had multiple time of my vehicle's auto stop start feature failing to START after being engaged. When you come to a stop, the car turns off. When you lift off the brake to go the engine cranks for a second, but does not start. The screen says "shift car to P". I am often stuck at an intersection and traffic gets upset we are not moving. There is no warning light or lamp. I have had the vehicle repeatedly serviced by the dealer. They said they cannot replicate the issue. The battery has been replaced several times.
The vehicle does not restart when at a stop. the auto idle shut off will not work. This has happened multiple time since we purchased the vehicle. It has been to the dealer multiple times with this problem. When it happens, you must put the vehicle in park and restart the engine. This causes a problem for traffic as sometimes it is very hard to restart.
i driving home from a local costco and slowed to a stop at an intersection not far from my home. The car stalled and would not restart. After several attempts the car completely shut off and I was unable to even turn on any of the accessories. Ultimately I had to have the vehicle towed to a local shop because I was obstructing traffic and was at a dangerous intersection. I late continued to have similar issues after several battery replacements and jump starts. I had my vehicle serviced at a local dealer and they advised that it was the central power module that was bad. I was advised that this also controls the Intermittent Idle control function that is designed to save gas when the car is idle and not running. The car was was not under warranty so I had to pay for the new part and installation....
Since buying my 2016 Honda Pilot Elite in June of 2021 I have had innumerable instances of my vehicle's auto stop start feature failing to START after being engaged. I believe the first instance was in Sept 2021 (after the lemon law time frame passed for my state). When my vehicle is stopped, I try to hit the gas and the vehicle does not go. At this same time an error happens on the screen that says "shift car to P". The first few times this has happened I tried to shift to P and that did not help. I figured out that it is best (i.e. quickest, I am not sure it is the best for the vehicle) to just turn the car off. Wait a few seconds, and then turn the car back on and put it back into drive and go. Keep in mind that I have...
Hi, today my 2016 pilot elite stop working on a red light. Once the brake pedal was released, the engine stop and warning lights appeared on the dash board: Neautral message light and Battery light. My wife and two daughters were scared and helpless. Cars were honking. After around 2 minutes and at least three tries to turn on, it finally did. We are happy to know that Honda is working on this matter, thanks.
Auto Start for Idle fails at start intermittently. If stopped at an intersection, when proceeding to go, engine cuts off and gear shifts to N, requiring a shift to P and Start pressed before then going to D and continuing. This is always at intersections and the delay puts driver in jeopardy.
Keyless Access Unit failure/malfunction per honda service center. While park and turned off, vehicle randomly turns on to accessory mode causing drain on battery and/or alarm to sound when locked/set. No codes or warning or issue prior or since. This issue has noticed and continues.
We own a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring AWD. For many years we have experienced issues with the idle-stop system as the vehicle fails to restart after the engine is switched off. It appears that the battery lacks the power to restart the engine or there may be a deeper issue with the engine restart system itself. We have taken the vehicle to the dealership twice and they cannot detect any issues. We have changed the battery twice, at our own expense, and the issue seems to improve temporarily while the battery is new. This issue is concerning when the engine does not restart at a busy intersection or when turning into incoming lateral traffic. The engine just shuts off and we need to switch to park to restart.
A couple of times, while sitting at a stop light, the auto stop feature has failed to restart the car, resulting in a need to completely turn the car off and restart it in traffic. We have also had it occur when stopped at a stop sign and not having the car restart, as we've attempted to pull out in to traffic. We have not taken it to a dealer or service center, and have elected to turn the feature off to mitigate the system failure. There are zero indications that the car won't restart. Occassionally, when we forget to turn the auto start feature off "when it does work correctly" radio audio drops out while the car restarts. This problem has been ongoing for about three years.
When car stops due to Auto Idle it then stalls and the engine completely cuts off. Then having to restart the car. This has happened to me an immense amount of times, in streets, freeways and it is going to kill someone. I have on. numerous had near misses where people have barely avoided rear ending me. I have reported to dealer, American Honda and nothing has been done. Every time it has gone into dealer for this they just say they can not replicate it. It is a Lemon and a dreadful defect in this car. something has to be done before someone is killed.
2016 Honda Pilot touring Model Issue: Idle-stop Feature While driving the vehicle and comes on the intersection/stop light when you hit brakes the idle-stop feature will turn off your engine but once you release the brakes the engine wont turn on. To able to turn on the engine, you need to turn off the vehicle by pressing ignition button then you need to press it again to turn on engine (is like starting the vehicle again). Here some stances happened while this idle stop didnt work well. Driver at the back, you're using cellphone, start honking and when they by pass you yelling stop using cellphone. Or simple honk you and when you look they're confused as we're you what's going on. Honda or other people saying its related to battery but even with new battery this still happened. If this will not be fix or resolve soon, this cause...
My 2016 honda pilot will not restart after it idles at a stoplight. This has happened multiple times and is happening more frequently (twice today). Both times today I was in a line of traffic and was in fear that someone behind me would hit me. The dashboard message said to put the car in park but that did not work. I had to turn the car completely off and restart it. The second time it took me three tries to get the car started. The guy behind me was very angry, gesturing and yelling. Road rage is scary too. I had the car looked at several months ago due the same issue and they could not find anything wrong when they ran diagnostics. I cannot recreate the problem on demand. It is sporadic. And scary.
My 2016 Honda Pilot has been experiencing an issue with the auto start-stop system, in which the vehicle's engine fails to restart after a stop and/or the dashboard indicators flash on and off with multiple error codes displaying. This has happened many times on the highway and on streets, one time where it would not restart on the highway and cars were going around me on both sides which was very dangerous. I reported this to Honda corporate and opened up a case, which was open for many months while the Pauly Honda dealer in Libertyville, IL and the Muller Honda dealer in Gurnee, IL tried to diagnose the problem. They ended up trying several fixes, including replacing the battery, but nothing has fixed the issue. The dealer also contacted the engineers at Honda Corporate, and they indicated that they were not aware of the issue and have not been...
On multiple occasions, but the latest being 10/19/2022, my car will not restart after the auto idle start/stop feature malfunctioned while at a stoplight this afternoon. The battery is not old, and we recently had it checked because it has been doing this a lot lately. It checked out fine when tested. Something is majorly wrong with the electrical parts when this happens. Lights flash, my hazards didn’t even work today, which was very scary and not safe. The only door that would open was my driver side door. This is a huge safety concern and I am now looking for a new car. This has happened at least 20-30 times, but today was the worst. It took awhile to get it jumped off. In the middle of traffic, with my hazard lights not working. Honda really needs to fix this. We took it to the dealership once about this...
Stop/start failure. Engine fails to restart after stopping
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the charging system error light and brake system error lights illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V668000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The infotainment screen and system frequently shut off as you are driving down the road. It has been doing it for years and I’ve brought it in to the dealer for them to update the software and other tricks they said they could do. It did not help and the problem is getting more frequent.
The start/stop turn the car off and when I tried to restart the car nothing happen. The battery is good and I heard a click sound but it won't start back for a few minutes sometimes.
When at a stop, t he start/stop feature is enabled and the engine shuts off as expected. When I lift my foot off the brake, it doesn't always restart, and I am left stranded in an intersection or at a light, and almost in accidents. Very unsafe. I have to turn it off every time I get into the car. When I forget to turn it off, it always fails to restart.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that after stopping at a red light the auto shut off feature activated and turned the engine off to consever fued. After releasing the brake pedal the engine restarted but immediately shut off after the vehicle had rolled into the busy intersection. The vehicle would not immdiatly restart. The message "keyless start problem" had displayed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. . The failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that after stopping at a red light, the Auto Stop/Start feature activated and turned the engine off to conserve fuel. After releasing the brake pedal the engine restarted but immediately shut off after the vehicle had rolled into the busy intersection. The vehicle could not be immediately restarted. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The idle stop shuts off my engine as designed but then it fails to restart approximately 10% of the time. When this occurs I have to put my car in park, turn off the car completely, turn it back on and put it in drive. While this most frequently happens at stop lights it has occured on the freeway when I have needed to stop. The frequency in which this is happening seems to be increasing. I have already had the start button on the car replaced twice. The issue continues to happen with increasing frequency.
Start stop failed in middle of intersection. The car died and would not restart without a jump. Battery has been replay and it continues
Driving in traffic. Idle stop system kicked in to turn off the engine. I let my foot off the brake pedal to turn left in the intersection, and the engine failed to restart after stopping. I put the car in park, and the car would not re-start. Ultimately, I had to turn the car fully off and then back on before it would restart. I was blocking traffic for over a minute with the car unable to restart. There had been several prior instances where the car almost didn't re-start, but this is the first time that it would not restart. I have seen prior notices that the NHTSA ODI is currently investigating this issue.
The vehicle is equipped with start stop feature. The issue is it will stop, then crank for a second or two, but sometimes not restart. It’s a safety issue when you try to move with traffic, but the engine is now off. This issue has been reported to the Honda dealer numerous times over a 4 year period. The starter & battery has been replaced, but the issue still exists.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the engine would not immediately restart after the START/STOP feature was activated. The contact indicated that the vehicle occasionally restarted approximately three seconds after releasing the brake pedal. On other occasions, the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was able to be restarted by pressing the START/STOP button. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure and a service appointment was scheduled. The contact referenced the NHTSA Investigation Number: PE22005 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the investigation. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 47,000.
For years, dating back to 2018, our 2016 Honda Pilot Elite auto on/off switch operations has been failing. Vehicle will not restart the engine after its engaged the auto start off. Engine and all components including electrical are off. Dashboard indications light up and essentially we are stalled, at risk of not being able to drive. It requires to place the car into park and restart the engine. This is serious safety issue that could result in being struct by another vehicle without being able to move. I have been taking the car to several authorized Honda service dealerships to address the issue. They have replaced multiple times the auto on/off switch, battery, adjusted values and updated software with no resolution. One dealership claimed to disable the auto on/off switch but this is NOT feasible. With the latest inspection, another local Honda dealership contacted Honda Corp Tech Line for assistance....
The auto start/stop feature activated while I was at a stop and shut the vehicle off. When I removed my foot from the brake the vehicle stalled and would not restart. Had to place the vehicle in park and apply the brake to get it to restart. The restart took multiple pushes of the start button. This was a busy intersection where I immediately became a hazard.
Engine fails to restart after an automatic engine idle stop while completely stopped at a stop sign.
The engine's idle-stop feature shut off my car while stopped at a busy intersection in urban traffic, and took 15 seconds to restart the automobile. The idle-stop feature kicked in when at an intersection. When I took my foot off the brake to accelerate forward, the car instead turned off. The dashboard prompted me to shift the car into park, put my foot on the brake, and press the engine ignition button. I did so, but the car did not restart, even when I repeated the process 2-3 times. Finally, on the fourth time, the car restarted.
I own a 2016 Honda Pilot (Touring) model. Upon start-up the idle-stop feature is defaulted to enabled. When the vehicle comes to a stop the idle-stop feature shuts down the engine but leaves some features such as air conditioning and radio running. Upon disengaging the brake, the vehicle should automatically restart. However, on many occasions both on residential and freeway the vehicle has failed to restart and stalled. After putting the vehicle in park and attempting to restart it, it does not restart right away. Because of the stall, the vehicle appears to be left in an indeterministic state making restart more difficult and time consuming. After several tries of applying the brake and pressing the on/off button to restart the vehicle, the vehicle finally restarts. When the vehicle stalls, many of the dashboard lights come on... maybe all of them do. The major safety issue is that the vehicle...
