I was driving while it was raining. The wipers stopped working. The driverside wiper jumped partially off the windshield. I had my mechanic inspect it. The fuses, relay, and wiper motor are operational. The bushing on the wiper transmission failed. I found the following recall. Special Coverage Adjustment N192266181 Wiper Transmission Arm Linkage Failure – USA Only Release Date: July 2022. However, my VIN does not have this as an applicable recall.
Wiper motor went out on me no warning
Windshield wipers quit working. I can hear something, but blades don't move. I see the 2014-15 have a recall.
Ball joint for wiper assembly just "pops off" while in use causing wipers to stop working. I have taken vehicle apart, fixed the issue ( reconnecting the ball joint) and issue happens again. I understand the vehicle is from 2012, but uses same part 2010-2017, which is currently a recall on 2013-2015 models. First occurrence of this issue was July 02, 2019. I brought to GMC dealer, they said they were out of the part. Since then I've not had the issue until today March 14, 2023 where I almost hit another car, due to it popping off and stopped working while in motion.
I was driving in the dark at 5 am with my 2 year old son in the down pour rain and my wipers stopped working but the motor was still running
Driving in heavy rain south on the I-5 at 545p. In peak traffic and wipers suddenly just stopped while going 60mph in the carpool lane. As we past the exit for I-405 There was no shoulder to pull off of on my left. I had to cross over 5 lanes until I could safely get off the freeway. Then drive another 5 miles on side streets getting out an manually moving the wipers every few blocks so i could see. I'm female and over 50 yrs old. There was not a place I felt safe to just pull over at night. I stopped at a friend's. I can hear the motor moving but the wipers are not. I do not recall ever seeing the recall on the ball bearings and nor the wiper linkage but found one. However I'm have 72k miles and have owned it for 10 yrs.6 months....
very serious failure ... traveling at night, in a rainstorm, doing 70mph on a highway and the wiper regulator connecting the wiper arms to the wiper motor fails ... no warning what so ever ... no intermittent operation or noises, nothing ... looking into this problem I see that GM has issued a safety recall for 2014 and up versions of this vehicle but not my specific model year ... what are the chances that the hardware used in my particular vehicle model year are any different than those listed in (22V-165) this safety recall.
I was driving on the highway and it was raining hard so I had my windshield wipers on and they just stopped working and I almost got in accident because I couldn't see.
I was getting on the Interstate when a really bad rain storm came up. I turned my windshield wipers on and they got stuck in the upright position. I tried many times to get the wipers to work, but they would not move. I had NO VISIBILITY and I was on an elevated ramp getting on the interstate. I could not see anything so I had to roll my window down, drive 5 miles an hour and use the white line on the road as a guide. I got soaking wet as did my car. I had to drive about a mile before I could safely stop the car. There was no warning and I am reading now there is an issue with this on Terrains. This was an EXTREMELY dangerous, I could have severely hurt myself or someone else. I am getting really tired of all the recalls on...
Wiper system failed, without notice or warning, while in use during travel on the highway, severely limiting visibility and creating significant safety event. No accident was reported as other vehicle passengers were able to assist the driver in safely maneuvering the vehicle to a safe stopping location.
DURING A BAD STORM THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT PAST THE WINDSHIELD AND THE MOTOR FROZE UP MOTOR STARTED HUMMING THEN LOCKED UP.
WIPER TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO WATER AND DEBRIS ENTERED THE WIPER ASSEMBLY BALL JOINTS AND CAUSED EXCESSIVE WEAR, ALLOWING THE BALL JOINTS TO DETACH AND CAUSING THE WIPERS TO STOP WORKING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 GMC TERRAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO OIL INSIDE THE VEHICLE UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE FIRST OIL CHANGE. NO WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL PRIOR TO THE DISCOVERY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS GIVEN A VOUCHER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO DEFECTIVE PISTON RINGS THAT WERE TOO EXPENSIVE TO BE REPLACED. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE BECAME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ENGINE FAILURE. PRIOR TO THE ENGINE FAILURE, THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE REVVED AND ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT NOTED THAT PRIOR TO THE ENGINE FAILURE, BOTH WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE DEFECTIVE DUE TO THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION. BOTH WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE REPLACED ON...
I WAS DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN STORM ACROSS A LONG THREE LANE BRIDGE WHEN MY WIPER SYSTEM FAILED. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF WIND, RAIN AND TRAFFIC ROAD SPRAY, I COULD NOT SEE THE ROAD OR VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD ZERO VISIBILITY. MIRACULOUSLY, I MADE IT SAFELY ACROSS THE BRIDGE AND OFF THE SHOULDER INTO A GRASSY AREA. THE DEALERSHIP THAT MADE THE REPAIR TOLD ME THAT GM COVERED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE WIPER ASSEMBLY BECAUSE THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS DEFECT, BUT HAVEN'T ISSUED A PUBLIC RECALL. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO HAVE CONTINUED ANXIETY ISSUES WHEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN AND ACROSS LONG BRIDGES. PLEASE MAKE THIS A PUBLIC RECALL. WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, MY WIPERS SUDDENLY STOPPED IN THE UP POSITION AND WOULDN'T MOVE. THE MOTOR WAS STILL WORKING BECAUSE YOU COULD HEAR IT CYCLING, BUT THE WIPERS WOULDN'T MOVE. FORTUNATELY THE RAIN WASN'T VERY HEAVY, I WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREETS ABLE TO GET HOME SAFELY DESPITE THE IMPAIRED VISIBILITY. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY IN SOME OF THE RECENT RAIN WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN AT 55 MPH ON A HIGHWAY ON MY WAY TO SCHOOL I TURNED ON MY WINDSHIELD WIPER, IT CAME ON AND STOPPED MOVING AFTER 10 MINUTES. I HAD TO PUT ON MY BLINKERS AND SLOWLY DRIVE ACROSS LANES TO MOVE IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. BEFORE WE LEFT, WE WAITED ABOUT 20-25 MINUTES MORE ON THE ROADSIDE AND HEADED BACK HOME WHEN IT WAS SAFE TO DO SO. MY HUSBAND DID TRY GETTING IT TO WORK AT LEAST TWICE AS WELL BUT WE COULD HEAR WAS THE MOTOR GRINDING BUT NO MOTION. WE TOOK IT THE NEXT DAY TO NEIGHBORHOOD'S PEP BOYS SINCE THAT WAS CLOSER TO ME THAN THE NEAREST GMC DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT...
THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING WHILE WE WERE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE DURING A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR. WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC BUT WERE EVENTUALLY ABLE TO MOVE OVER AND PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY SAFELY. THIS EQUIPMENT FAILURE COULD HAVE HAD A TRAGIC ENDING FOR US AND THE OTHER MOTORISTS AROUND US. WE UNDERSTAND THERE WERE RECALLS FOR 2013 MODELS FOR THIS FAILURE. NOT SURE WHY A RECALL HASN'T BEEN DONE ON 2012 MODELS.

I WAS DRIVING ON I-95 ON 3/29/2020 WHEN IT STARTED RAINING I TURN ON MY WIPERS AND IT STARTED OKAY AT FIRST ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY STOP WORKING I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT I PULLED OVER TO THE SERVICE ROAD AND WAITED UNTIL THE RAIN STOPPED I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. WHAT DO I DO NOW I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO GET IT FIXED AND I WON'T DRIVE IT IN THE RAIN.

I WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE FACT THAT I AM AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER. LUCKILY I WAS ONLY ABOUT 2 BLOCKS FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND PARKED MY VEHICLE THERE WHILE THE OWNER GAVE ME A RIDE HOME. I SPENT $318 ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR TRANSMISSION. CANADA RECALLED THIS EXACT SAME VEHICLE SO WHY HASN'T THE U. S. I ALSO REPORTED THIS TO GMC.

MY HUSBAND ALMOST CRASHED INTO ANOTHER CAR WHILE TRYING TO PULL OVER ON THE SHOULDER. WE WERE LEFT SITTING IN A STORM FOR OVER 2 HOURS WAITING FOR THE WEATHER TO CLEAR UP. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK.

MY FAMILY AND ME WERE TRAVELING IN A DOWN POOR IN A LARGE CITY. SUDDENLY MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT WENT PAST THE WINDOW WHILE IN MOTION AND STOPPED WORKING. I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE IN THIS MODEL AND THE 2013 ACTUALLY HAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE.
I USED MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON THE HIGHEST/FASTEST SETTING THE OTHER DAY FOR THE 1ST TIME EVER. I USUALLY ONLY USE THE LOW OR MEDIUM SETTING. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORKED FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTE AND THEN THEY STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. THEY FROZE IN PLACE AND MY DEALER IS RECOMMENDING A REPLACEMENT OF THE WIPER MOTOR AND CONNECTIONS. I AM READING ONLINE AND IT LOOKS LIKE GM RECALLED THE 2013 TERRAINS FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE AND THAT YOUR COMPANY WAS LOOKING INTO WHETHER THEY SHOULD RECALL 2010-2012 TERRAINS AS WELL. ON SATURDAY, 5/11/19, AT ABOUT 10 PM, WHILE DRIVING ON I-264, AT ABOUT 60 MPH, IN A BAD THUNDERSTORM, THE WIPERS STOPPED WORKING, STOPPING ALL THE WAY UP. THE RAIN WAS SO HEAVY I COULD NOT SEE OUT THE FRONT WINDOW AND SLOWED DOWN AND GRADUALLY PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE WITH MY PASSENGER LOOKING OUT FOR THE GUARDRAIL. WHEN THE RAIN LET UP A LITTLE, I REALIZED I WAS PARTIALLY BLOCKING AN ON RAMP AND PULLED FARTHER FORWARD. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WE DISCOVERED WE COULD HEAR THE MOTOR CLICKING BUT THE WIPERS WOULDN'T MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ED KOEHN CHEVROLET (616-866-9511, LOCATED AT 4650 14 MILE RD NE # M-57, ROCKFORD, MI 49341) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIPER MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE CALLED BACK BY A REPRESENTATIVE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT CALLED BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS IMMEDIATELY STOPPED OPERATION WHILE IN USE ON FEBRUARY 20, 2019. I TOOK THE CAR ON FEBRUARY 21, 2019 TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC'S SHOP WHICH RECOMMENDED TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF THE WIPER TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY EVEN THOUGH ONLY A BUSHING WAS DAMAGED. I AGREED AND HAD THE WIPER TRANSMISSION REPLACED. I ATTACH A COPY OF THAT INVOICE. TOTAL PAID WAS $376.75
THE WIPERS STOPPED FUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING. WIPERS SWEPT TO THE LEFT (DRIVERS SIDE) AND BROKE FREE FROM THE LINKAGE ALLOWING THE DRIVER WIPER TO HANG OFF OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE WIPERS CAN BE MANUALLY MOVED BACK TO A RESTING POSITION, BUT WILL NOT MOVE ON THEIR OWN.
THE LINKAGE ARMS KEEPS DISENGAGING FROM THE MOTOR. IT HAPPENED WHILE IT WAS RAINING AND I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO REATTACH IT ON A LATER DAY BUT IT KEEPS HAPPENING WHEN THE WIPERS ARE ON A HIGHER SPEED
WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A HIGHWAY IN THE RAIN, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE WIPER TRANSMISSION HAD COME APART AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS FIRST OCCURRED IN JUNE 2016 WHEN MY VEHICLE HAD 71048 MILES ON IT. THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED A SECOND TIME IN AUGUST 2018 WITH 111446 MILES ON MY VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT IN THE RAIN, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS QUIT WORKING. DIAGNOSIS REVEALED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION HAD COME APART AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THIS ISSUE ON THE SAME VEHICLE. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS IN JUNE 2016
ON 11/13/2018 ON A HIGHWAY IN HEAVY RAIN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS JUST STOPPED. INVESTIGATION REVEALED A FAILURE OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION LINKAGE WHICH I DISCOVERED TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. THIS IS BEING REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP TODAY 11/15/2018. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR COLLISION AS MY TRIP WAS NEARLY COMPLETE AND TRAFFIC WAS LOW. THE CONTACT WAITED FOR THE STORM TO STOP AND THEN DROVE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TEMPORARILY REPAIRED UNTIL THE WIPER MOTOR WAS OFFICIALLY REPLACED. A DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND WHILE IT WAS RAINING OUTSIDE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. THE WIPERS NO LONGER WORK ON THE VEHICLE AND THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN IN THE RAIN. MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER SAFELY. WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL NOT WORK AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR.
TURNED WIPERS ON TO THE LOW SETTING. THE WIPER BLADE ARMS MOVED TO THE UP POSITION AND STOPPED. I TURN THE SWITCH TO OFF, WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND TURNED THEM BACK ON. WIPERS BLADE ARMS DID NOT MOVE, BUT I COULD HEAR THE MOTOR RUN LIKE IT WOULD IF I WERE TO TURN THEM ON. IT'S ALMOST LIKE THE ARMS BECAME DISLOCATED FROM THE JOINT THE SHOULD BE CONNECTED TOO! I WAS PARKED IN MY LOT AT WORK, POURING DOWN RAIN. I GOT OUT AND TRIED GIVING THE ARMS A LITTLE PUSH TO MAYBE GET THEM TO MOVE . NOTHING. I WAS ABLE TO MANUALLY MOVE THEM TO DOWN POSITION AND WAITED FOR THE RAIN TO STOP SO I COULD DRIVE HOME. I'VE ALREADY HAD THIS CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP A FEW TIMES AND IS CURRENTLY UNDER THE OIL CONSUMTION RECALL. REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN, NEW PISTONS AND RINGS.

DRIVING IN THE POURING RAIN WITH MY FAMILY (MY HUSBAND, MY 10 DAUGHTER AND 3 YEAR OLD SON) AT 58 MILES PER HOUR WHEN WE HIT A DOWNPOUR OF RAIN. I TURNED MY WIPERS FROM LOW TO HIGH. THEY MADE ABOUT 3 OR 4 SWIPES THEN STUCK IN THE VERTICAL POSITION. I LOST ALL VISUAL OF THE ROAD, SLOWED DOWN, FOUND A PLACE TO SAFELY TURN OFF. MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE WIPERS FROM OUTSIDE THE CAR BUT COULDN'T REGAIN ANY FUNCTION. LUCKILY WE WERE ABOUT 3 MILES FROM HOME, HEADED ON A DAY TRIP APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES AWAY. WE TURNED BACK AND TRADED FOR MY HUSBAND'S TRUCK FOR THE TRIP. WE TESTED THE WIPERS AGAIN AT HOME, YOU CAN HEAR THE MOTOR RUNNING, THEN A THUNK SOUND AND NOTHING. I HAVEN'T TAKEN THE VEHICLE FOR REPAIR YET, AS THIS JUST HAPPENED ABOUT AN HOUR AGO.
DRIVING ON I-85 @ 65 MPH IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WHEN EXTREMELY HEAVY DOWNPOURS BEGAN. I TURNED ON WIPERS TO FULL SPEED THEY SWIPED 3 TIMES THEN STOPPED WORKING. THE DRIVER SIDE BLADE WENT BEYOND THE WINDOW EDGE AND STOPPED, WITH BOTH BLADES IN A VERTICAL POSITION. I IMMEDIATELY LOST ALL VISIBILITY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HWY, WAITED 30 MINUTES FOR THE RAIN TO STOP. DROVE TO A AAA CAR CARE CENTER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED A BLOWN WIPER TRANSMISSION (MOTOR). COST $501 TO REPAIR. THE 2013 HAS A RECALL FOR THE WIPERS IN THE U.S., CANADA HAS A RECALL FOR 2010-2017 FOR THE WIPERS. GMC CLAIMS MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL BECAUSE IT WAS NOT MADE IN THE SAME FACTORY WITH THE SAME PARTS AS THE VEHICLES PART OF THE RECALL (EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE STICKERS ON THE INSIDE...

MONUMENT CHEVROLET (3940 PASADENA FWY, PASADENA, TX 77503, (713) 473-7601) WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL CAMPAIGNS TO REPLACE THE PART. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.

WAS DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR AND HAD MY WIPERS ON HIGH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY JUST STOPPED WORKING ALMOST CAUSING ME TO CRASH AND DIE. THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS A FUSE PROBLEM BUT CAME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON A PLASTIC PIECE THAT BREAKS OFF ON THE 2013 GMC TERRAIN WHAT IS NOT RECALLED ON MY VEHICLE SO I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THIS FIXED AND IT WAS NOT CHEAP. CHECKING ONLINE NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO THEM FOR THE 2012 MODEL TERRAIN AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE IS NOT ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY SO AS TO NOT CAUSE ANYBODY TO CRASH AND DIE.
