As I drove the vehicle to the shop, I noticed that it was very hard to steer and the steering made a grinding noise. The shop called later and advised that the rack and pinion sensor was bad and needed replacing. The shop advised that the only way to repair it was to replace the rack and pinion. Steering wheel wobbles and is loose. Can pivot up, or right / left about an inch. NOT a rotational loose (like worn bushings). Pivot point is right behind the wheel itself, as if it was the bolt that is part of other recalls (but 'not applicable' to my VIN???). Only 33k miles on car. 2017 year Fusion. Taking to dealer to "fix" today. Issue noticed during light morning commute on 5/18/2022 No other inspection to date. No warning lamps, messages, or other notices, now, or prior.

Power Steering became difficult to turn and handle while driving, this just suddenly happened without warning, my Son's safety was at risk by not being able to handle the steering, shortly after the Steering Assist Fault warning light came on, Service Traction Advance warning light and Hill Assist not working light came on. I drove about 11 miles total to get on the interstate, when I was about 7-9miles into my drive, my steering wheel started to lock up. I slammed on my breaks, and kept twisting and turning my steering wheel for about 2 miles to the nearest gas station. I had tons of lights pop up on my dash and they said my steering system is failed. Something along those lines. It said something about my shifter being messed up as well? I have had 0 lights on, 0 warnings, nothing. If I was going any faster than I was I could’ve been seriously injured. On the highway we lost the steering assist function. The dash lit up with steering assist failure. Due to this system failing on the highway, I almost had an accident while in a turn, I went across the rumble strips toward the wall and just barley missed hitting the wall. When the power assist failed this made the vehicle harder to control then a standard manual steering car, it took a great deal of force to control the car.

TURNING INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD AT ABOUT 10-15 MPH THE LEFT WHEEL AND HUB FELL OFF CAUSING THE CAR TO CRASH INTO THE PAVEMENT. THIS CAUSED ALOT OF DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER AND FENDERS. WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING FEELS LOSE LIKE WHEN I TURN IT FEELS AS IF IT GOING TO STEER MY CAR INTO A CIRCLE. IT IS VERY TOUCHY ON THE STEERING NOT SURE IF IT NEEDS TIGHTENED OR JUST SIMPLY FIXED FROM THE RECALL.

I WAS DRIVING HOME ONE NIGHT ON GORDON DR IN RUSTON, LOUISIANA WHEN AN ANIMAL ENTERED THE ROAD SO I STEERED TO THE LEFT TO AVOID THE ANIMAL AND SUDDENLY LOSS CONTROL OF STEERING. THIS CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO A DITCH WITH A CEMENT DRAIN. MY CAR PROCEEDED TO DRAG ON THE GROUND SO I DID NOT DRIVE IT AND REPORTED IT TO INSURANCE AND IT WAS DECLARED TOTALED.

UPON STARTING THE CAR, THE CAR WAS WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH 'STEERING ASSIST FAULT, SERVICE REQUIRED.' THE CAR WAS IN A STATIONARY POSITION WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN, AS IF THIS WOULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING, AN ACCIDENT COULD HAVE HAPPENED AND THE OPERATOR, PASSENGER AND/OR OTHER PERSONS ON THE ROAD COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED, OR WORSE. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AT A AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THE RESULT OF THIS ISSUE WAS THAT THE STEERING GEAR, RACK AND PINION, NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AS IT WAS FAULTY, AND THE CAR NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE TOTAL FOR THIS REPAIR WAS $2,330.88 AND WE WERE INFORMED THIS WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A PRIVATE DEALER (AMERICAN CAR CENTER IN GA). IN LESS THAN 2 DAYS THE ERROR MESSAGE POPPED UP. I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 30 MPH AND THE STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING AND MY CAR FLOATED OVER AND I COULD NOT STOP IT OR STEER. IT WAS THE STRANGEST THING I EVER EXPERIENCED. I FELT THE SENSORS IN THE CAR SUCK IN. MY CAR BOUNCED OVER THE CURB AND THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WAS TORN OFF IT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTALED MY CAR OUT AND THE LOSS OF MY CAR HAS BEEN SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF INCOME AND ABILITY TO WORK TOO. I LOST SO MUCH OVER THIS CAR BEING TOTALED. REPEATEDLY TAKES ME INTO ADJACENT LANE UPON LANE CHANGE, AND ALMOST OFF ROAD, WHEN GETTING OFF EXITS. WIPERS AND WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID SYSTEM: 98% OF THE TIME, DOES NOT CLEAN THE TOP 1/3 OF DRIVERS VIEW OF WINDSHIELD. VISABILITY IS BETTER WHEN NOT USING OR MINIMIZING WIPER USE, IN RAIN, SNOW. SUSPENSION: DEATH RATTLE. VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY EXCESSIVELY VIBRATES SO SEVERELY, AT ANY SPEED. WITH UNEVEN ROADS, AND HOLES, VEHICLES EXCESSIVELY RATTLES AND JUMPS SIDEWAYS IN LANE. REGARDING MANUFACTURER'S RECALL NUMBER 18S08 (STEERING WHEEL SEPARATES FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER IN LYNBROOK, NY TO HAVE THE SAFETY REPAIR AND WAS INFORMED ON 3/21 THAT FORD HAD NOT SENT THE PARTS AND THAT THEY WERE NOT EXPECTED FOR "MONTHS." I THEN CALLED FORD'S NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS TOLD A LETTER WOULD BE SENT AFTER APRIL 30TH ABOUT WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. THIS IS NOT A TIMELY MANNER TO CORRECT A MAJOR LIFE-THREATENING SAFETY ISSUE. THIS CAR IS ISSUED TO ME BY MY EMPLOYER.

STEERING WHEEL BECAME LOOSE WHILE DRIVING

THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME LOOSE AND HAD AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF PLAY IN IT. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND REPAIRED. THEY TOOK CARE OF IT WITH NO PROBLEM. AFTER RETURNING HOME MY WIFE SUGGESTED I CHECK AND SEE IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND I FOUND THE ARTICLE ABOUT THE 2014 TO 2016 INVESTIGATION. WE THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE MADE KNOWN THAT IT ALSO IS HAPPENING IN 2017 MODELS. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THIS WAS THE SECOND ONE HE HAS SEEN ALTHOUGH HE WAS NOT SPECIFIC IF THEY WERE BOTH 2017 MODELS.

MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BECOME VERY LOOSE AND FEELS LIKE IT'S GOING TO FALL OFF. I HAVE VIDEO FOR PROOF. 2017 FORD FUSION SPORT.

WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO LOOSEN. IT ALMOST FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO COME OFF. I WAS TRAVELING ON I-94 FROM MILWAUKEE TO THE CHICAGO AREA, SO IT WAS FLAT ROAD, GOOD CONDITIONS. I DROPPED MY SPEED TO 55 AS I WAS AFRAID TO GO THE POSTED 70 MPH WITH THE STEERING WHEEL AS IT WAS. WHEN I GOT HOME I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE BOLT INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN WAS LOOSE. THEY FIXED IT.

I WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY THE WHEELS STOPPED FROM TURNING I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT WHEN I TOUK THE EXIT AND THE LIGHT WENT ON INDICATES THE CAR NEED A SERVICE STEERING ASSIST FAULT, I TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER THER WAS NO EXPLANATION WHAT DID CAUSE THAT THEY TOLD ME THE STEERING BAR ROCK GET BROKEN BECAUSE YOU MAY HIT SOMETHING I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT NOTHING HIT ME BBUT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO EXPLANATION THEY MADE THAT UP SOMEONE NEED TO LOOK THAT UP THIS IS SO DANGEROUS ISSUE WHILE YOU DRIVING.

WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT, BETWEEN 5-10 MPH WHEN THE CAR CLICKED LOUDLY. I LOST STEERING AND BRAKES, AND CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. THE ENGINE HAD TURNED OFF, THE CAR HAD PUT ITSELF INTO PARK, AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT BACK AS IF I HAD OPENED THE DOOR WITH THE CAR SHUT OFF.
