I WAS DRIVING TO MY MOTHER HOUSE TO PICK UP MY SON MY CAR SUDDENLY JUST LOST ALL POWER. IT WAS STILL RUNNING BUT NOT ACCELERATING. IT WAS VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT TURNED THE CAR OFF WHEN I RESTARTED IT CAME RIGHT BACK ON AFTER THAT I HAD NO TROUBLE THAT NIGHT. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER MY SON AND I WERE HEADED HOME IT DID THIS TO ME AGAIN BUT WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR IT HAD MORE TROUBLE AND ONLY ALLOWED ME TO 100 YARD OR SO. MY MECHANIC CLEANED THE PART IT DID FINE FOR ABOUT ANOTHER MONTH OR SO UNTIL THIS PAST MONDAY 7/29/13. I HAVE CURRENTLY BOUGHT A NEW THROTTLE BODY AND IT HAS SEEMED TO FIX THIS CAR. FORD NEEDS TO REALIZE THIS A PROBLEM.THE CAR HAS STOPPED ON ME NUMEROUS TIME...
I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE TOLLWAY AND HAD TO SLOW DOWN DUE TO CONGESTION. MY CAR MADE A LUNGE, LIKE A HARD DOWNSHIFT AND WAS LEFT WITH NO RESPONSE FROM THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AS INDICATED BY THE TACHOMETER AND POWER STEERING, HOWEVER I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, NEARLY BEING REAR ENDED BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC, I TURNED ON THE FLASHERS AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I LET THE CAR SET FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS BEFORE RESTARTING. UPON RESTART THE CAR RAN FINE AS THOUGH NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I HAD A SECOND OCCURRENCE JUST TODAY (8/1/2013). I NOW HAVE AN ENGINE LIGHT AND HAVE READ THE CODE - P2112. THE DEALERSHIP/SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT I CALLED MENTIONED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE FORD FUSION. *TR
MULTIPLE INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WILL BE CRUISING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THEN LOSE ALL ENGINE POWER AND THE CAR BEGINS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. I NEED TO PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHEREVER I AM, INCLUDING BUSY TRAFFIC. THE CAR CONTINUES TO SHAKE WHILE SHIFTING INTO PARK. AFTER IN PARK, I TURN THE CAR OFF, WAIT 30 SECONDS, THEN START IT AGAIN. THE SHAKING CEASES UPON RESTARTING, AND WILL DRIVE FINE FOR 5-10 MINUTES BEFORE REPEATING THE INCIDENT OVER AGAIN AND LOSING ALL ENGINE POWER. A FORD DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY. THE REPAIR COST OVER $500. *TR
THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE ENGINE WENT INTO IDLE AND WOULD NOT MAINTAIN SPEED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN THE RIGHT LANE OF A MAJOR, HEAVILY TRAVELED (WITH MANY TRACTOR TRAILERS), DIVIDED HIGHWAY, TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF BETWEEN 55 AND 60 MPH. ALL OF A SUDDEN, WITHOUT WARNING, THE ENGINE SEEMED TO SHUT DOWN. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE; THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION AS TRUCKS AND CARS HAD TO BREAK, WHILE I STEERED THE CAR TO THE NARROW SHOULDER. THE CAR DIDN'T SEEM TO LOSE POWER STEERING AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING (TACH SHOWED 900 TO 1000 RPM). HOWEVER, ENGINE WAS TOTALLY UNRESPONSIVE TO MY DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, PUT THE FLASHERS ON AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE STARTED NORMALLY, AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY. HOWEVER, AFTER DRIVING ABOUT ONE-QUARTER MILE, THE SAME ENGINE SHUTDOWN OCCURRED. CALLED AAA AND HAD...
THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. WHEN I REACH SPEEDS AROUND 45 AND ABOVE, THE CAR SEEMS TO STALL AND THE THROTTLE CUTS OUT, LEAVING ME WITHOUT A WAY TO ACCELERATE. I HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF BUSY HIGHWAYS, LET MY CAR REST FOR A LITTLE BIT THEN START IT BACK UP. IT SEEMS RELUCTANT TO START. TOOK IT TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONCLUDED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND I WOULD NEED IT REPLACED. GOOGLED FORD FUSION THROTTLE BODY AND MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN, INCLUDING ACCIDENTS CAUSE BY IT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, APPROX. 65-70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS, LOSES ALL THROTTLE RESPONSE, AND THE WRENCH LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATE ON THE DASH DISPLAY. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SHUT OFF OR STALL, BUT IT DOES ENTER LIMP MODE. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE WRENCH LIGHT IS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WILL OPERATE NORMALLY. THIS SITUATION REPEATED 4 DIFFERENT TIMES ON THE INCIDENT DATE. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP THE PROBLEM WAS ACKNOWLEDGED AS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY LOCAL STREET AT APPROX 25 MPH. THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND WAS STUCK IN A ROUGH IDLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 6 TIMES NOW. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT IS KNOWN TO FORD (FAULTY THROTTLE BODY). SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE SOON OR GET HURT IN AN ACCIDENT IF THE CAR LOSES POWER LIKE THIS. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. FORD SHOULD DO A RECALL NOW! *TR
I WAS GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE FELT MY CAR JERK LIKE IT SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND THEN I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, I MANAGED TO PULL OVER TURN THE CAR OFF. AFTER RESTARTING IT, IT WAS FINE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT AT TURNS OUT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2010 FUSIONS. SINCE IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE AND FOUND A TON OF COMPLAINTS JUST LIKE MINE. I CALLED FORD AND ASKED ABOUT THE RECALL HOWEVER MY CAR WAS NOT UNDER RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO TO MAKE IT GOOD. SO I'M STUCK PAYING THE REPAIR BILL FOR SOMETHING EVIDENTIALLY IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND DANGEROUS. *TR
AFTER DRIVING OVER 50 MILES, MY CAR STALLED AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND LET IT IDLE, BUT IT RAN ROUGH. ONCE I TURNED IT OFF AND THEN BACK ON, IT RAN OKAY. IT STALLED AGAIN LATER IN THAT SAME TRIP. THEN IT STALLED AGAIN TWICE ON MY WAY HOME. LUCKILY, I WAS ON A NON BUSY ROAD WITH A SHOULDER. THEN IT SEEMED TO RUN FINE FOR A FEW DAYS, BUT AFTER DRIVING OVER 50 MILES, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS NERVOUS BECAUSE ONCE IT STALLED AS I WAS TURNING ONTO A ROAD WITHOUT A SHOULDER. I WAS CONCERNED THAT A CAR WOULD COME OVER THE HILL AND HIT ME WHILE I WAS TURNING IT OFF AND RESTARTING IT. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH DOWN A TWO LANE HIGHWAY WHEN I LOST ALL THROTTLE RESPONSE THROUGH MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ENGINE WENT TO A VERY "ROUGH" IDLE AROUND 600 - 800 RPM AND THE MAINTENANCE WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. LUCKILY I WAS TRAVELING DOWN GRADE AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER SAFELY PARKING THE VEHICLE I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SMILED AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT WAS MALFUNCTIONING. QUOTED ME ON A PRICE FOR A NEW PART AND LABOR WITHOUT EVEN INSPECTING THE VEHICLE ($352)! IF THIS PROBLEM WAS OBVIOUS TO THE TECHNICIAN WITHOUT THE VEHICLE EVEN BEING CHECKED, WHY HASN'T FORD RECALLED THIS PART? *TR
WHILE TRAVELING APROX 65MPH DOWN A 4 LANE HWY AT 6:20 AM ON 6/24/13, MY CAR BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND WOULD NOT RESPOND/ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED. THE RED "WRENCH" LIGHT LIT UP ON THE INFORMATION CENTER ON THE DASH BOARD. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE IT FINALLY CUT OFF. I WAITED A MINUTE OR TWO AND TRIED ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND IT RESTARTED SUCCESSFULLY. I WAS ABLE TO CAUTIOUSLY CONTINUE DRIVING UNTIL I REACHED A FORD DEALERSHIP LATER THAT MORNING AT WHICH POINT THEY TOLD ME IT THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY WENT ON TO SAY THAT FORD WAS NOT COVERING THIS REPAIR AND THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL IN EFFECT! THIS REPAIR COST ME $300 OF WHICH I COULD NOT SPARE FROM MY BUDGET! THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO CARS OR TRACTOR TRAILER BEHIND WHEN MY CAR BEGAN...
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER, THE WRENCH LIGHT TURNED ON AND IT BEGAN TO SHAKE AS IF DRIVING ON A RUMBLE STRIP. I HAD TO PULL THROUGH THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC DURING RUSH HOUR WITHOUT POWER JUST TO REACH THE SHOULDER. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND HAD TO GATHER MYSELF, REALLY HAPPY NOT TO HAVE BEEN HIT BY OTHER VEHICLES. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND THE LIGHT HAD TURNED OFF AND EVERYTHING WORKED FINE. THE SAME THING HAPPENED THE NEXT MORNING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. TAKING THE CAR INTO A FORD DEALER AS SOON AS I CAN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE STORE TODAY ON A 4 LANE ROAD AND WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN WHEN THE CAR POWERED DOWN TO 1 MPH AND STAYED THERE. THANKFULLY THE CAR I TURNED IN FRONT OF HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO SLOW DOWN TO AVOID ME. I TRAVELED TWO BLOCKS HOME AS THE CAR ONLY ALLOWED ME TO GO 1 MPH WITH THE WRENCH LIGHT ON AND WITH A SLIGHTLY JERKY RIDE. I CALLED MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THEY GOT ME IN TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. I ASSUMED BAD GAS OR A FUEL LINE NEEDED TO BE CLEANED, BUT ALSO THOUGHT IT WAS ODD THAT A THREE YEAR OLD CAR NEEDED ANY WORK. THEY TROUBLESHOOTER AND CLEANED THE FUEL LINES AND TOOK OUT THE MOISTURE THEY THOUGHT WAS CAUSING THIS. THE MECHANIC THEN TOOK IT FOR A TEST RUN IN THE LOCAL PARKING LOT WHERE...
THROTTLE BODY SHORTED BATTERY AND CAUSED ENGINE TO STALL IN TRAFFIC. WHEN TRYING TO RESTART, ENGINE SPED UP FAST BECAME VERY DANGEROUS. FORD HAS THESE THROTTLE BODYS ON BACK ORDER... THAT'S SAD. PLS RECALL ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL STARTING SHAKING AS THE CAR LOST POWER AND EVENTUALLY COMPLETELY STALLED. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES IT STARTED BUT WE DIDN'T EVEN GET A MILE FURTHER BEFORE THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. AS THIS WAS HAPPENING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A LITTLE WRENCH LAMP LIT UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES WE WERE ABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND DRIVE IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP SEVERAL MILES AWAY WHERE THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY 4 DAYS LATER. IT TOOK THEM THAT LONG TO GET THE PART IN BECAUSE THEY HAD TROUBLE FINDING ONE SINCE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TRAVELING APROX 60MPH ON HIGHWAY. LOST POWER. YELLOW WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON. COASTED TO SAFETY. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES TIED TO RESTART. RESTARTED NORMALLY. FINISHED TRIP. LATER COMPUTER DIAGNOSIS SHOWED PO2111 AND PO2112. FORD WOULD NOT ASSIST . LATER FOUND MANY HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES. SAFETY PROBLEM! *TR
DRIVER WAS DRIVING 2010 FORD FUSION APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE AND DECELERATE. IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS LOSING POWER. DRIVER HAD TO PUT HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE SLOWLY TO A CONVENIENCE STORE WHERE SHE WAS ABLE TO CALL TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP. WHEN THE VEHICLE ARRIVED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY STILL IN THE SHOP WAITING FOR THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY TO BE AVAILABLE TO REPLACE THE FAULTY PART. CURRENTLY THE DRIVER IS WITHOUT THE VEHICLE THAT IS REQUIRED FOR THEM TO DO THEIR JOB. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT SEEMED TO LOOSE POWER AND WAS IDLING ROUGH. WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, OPENED THE HOOD AND THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING AND RUNNING ROUGH. VEHICLE WAS ONLY GOING A COUPLE MILES AN HOUR AS DRIVER TRIED TO MAKE IT BACK TO HIS MOTEL, WHEN THE VEHICLE JUST TURNED OFF. DRIVER LET THE VEHICLE SIT FOR A MINUTE AND THEN TRIED TO START IT AGAIN, AND IT STARTED UP. THE VEHICLE WOULD RUN BUT IT HAS EXTREMELY LIMITED POWER. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. HAD TO WAIT TWO WEEKS FOR THE PART TO BECOME AVAILABLE. *TR
WHEN TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD IN TYPICAL CONDITIONS THE POWER COULD CUT OUT ON THE ENGINE. ELECTRICAL POWER WOULD STILL BE ON BUT NO POWER WOULD GO TO THE ENGINE FORCING ME TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND RESTART. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND CAUSED A MINOR BUMP WITH A TRAFFIC BARREL. FORD LISTS THIS AS SERVICE NOTICE WHEN IT SHOULD BE A RECALL, I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED HAD I NOT HAD ENOUGH ROOM TO AVOID THE SEMI TRUCK SPEEDING BEHIND ME. *TR
DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE AT 70 MILES PER HOUR IN FAR LEFT LANE WHEN VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY LOSES POWER. ACCELERATOR PEDAL COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE, AND ENGINE SPEED DROPS TO APPROXIMATELY 800 RPM. I HAD TO QUICKLY MANEUVER ACROSS TWO LANES, WHICH WERE OCCUPIED BY TRACTOR TRAILERS TO GET TO RIGHT SHOULDER. CAME EXTREMELY CLOSE TO HAVING A MAJOR ACCIDENT DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC WHICH WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY INVOLVED 15-20 VEHICLES DUE TO SUDDEN ONSET AND HEAVY TRAFFIC. VEHICLE IDLED EXTREMELY ROUGH UPON STOP. VEHICLE WOULD RESTART AND OPERATE NORMALLY FOR AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME, THEN THE SAME ISSUE WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR FORD FUSIONS BUILT PRIOR TO LATE 2011 AND FORD ESCAPES. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION, AND A RECALL SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE ISSUED. ONLINE RESEARCH HAS A CONSENSUS THAT THE PROBLEM IS A BAD THROTTLE BODY. THERE ARE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS, IF NOT...
ENGINE IS SURGING WHEN STOPPED AT LIGHTS AND NOW WHEN AIR CONDITIONER IS ON IT GOES ALMOST OFF WHILE THE SURGE HAPPENS THEN COMES BACK ON WHEN THE SURGE STOPS. I HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TIGHT AS THE CAR WANTS TO MOVE. HAPPENS EVERY 5-10 SECONDS OR SO AND EVERY TIME I AM AT IDLE. WHEN PULLING INTO GARAGE AT SLOW SPEED THE CAR SURGES SO I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING UP A HILL OR INCLINE, THE MOTOR POWERED DOWN TO THE POINT OF STALLING, WHEREBY I WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TODAY, AND ON ONE OCCASION IN DECEMBER 2012, BUT THE SPECIFICS I CANNOT RECALL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO MY FRIENDS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR STALLED ON ME. IT WOULDN'T MOVE WHEN I PUSHED ON THE GAS IT JUST SLOWED DOWN WHILE MY BATTERY LIGHT WRENCH LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS DEAD. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WAS FINE LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. LESS THAN A MILE IT DID IT AGAIN ON A BUSY ROAD. I WAS FREAKING OUT AND WORRIED ABOUT MY LIFE ON THE BUSY ROAD. SO I SHUT IT OFF AGAIN AND STARTED AND LUCKY I MADE TO THE FORD SERVICE BEFORE IT DID IT AGAIN AND DECIDED TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT. THE THROTTLE BODY GAD TO BE REPLACED AND WAS THE REASON WHY MY CAR WAS ACTING UP. I THANK GOD THAT I WASN'T ON THE FREEWAY AROUND RUSH HOUR TIME. *TR
CAR WAS IDLING IN PARK. PUT CAR IN DRIVE, STARTED MOVING FORWARD SLOWLY AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO SHAKE, LOST THROTTLE CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE AND WRENCH LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. ENGINE DIED WITHIN ABOUT 10 SECONDS. TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT RAN NORMALLY FOR ABOUT 25 FEET AND EXHIBITED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS BEFORE. RESTARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP THE CAR TO A SUITABLE PARKING SPACE ABOUT 250 FEET AWAY. AFTER SITTING FOR A MINUTE WITH THE CAR OFF, I STARTED IT AGAIN AND IT RAN NORMAL FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. I DROVE TO THE NEAREST AUTOZONE AND HAD THEM SCAN THE COMPUTER CODES. FOUND P2111 - THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A CROWDED HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE OR MAINTAIN SPEED. WRENCH LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED, CAR DID NOT STALL. ONCE BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP NO CODE WAS AVAILABLE. *TR
I WAS VERY WORRIED WHEN MY CAR APPEARED TO JUST TURN OFF AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN FROM THE INTERSTATE. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE, BAD CONNECTION AND HOPED IT WOULD NEVER DO IT AGAIN. VEHICLE GOES INTO "LIMP-HOME" MODE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. HAPPENED ON I-95 AND WAS LUCKY I COULD PULL OVER WITHOUT GETTING KILLED.
