WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR SINCE WE PURCHASED IT.OUR BATTERY DIED AT 25000 MILES, HAD TO BE REPLACED NO EXPLANATION GIVEN. THE IGNITION TUMBLER HAD TO BE REPLACED BE CAUSE IT BROKE, WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY GAVE NO EXPLANATION FOR IT. *AKALSO WE HAVE HAD OUR BRAKES REPLACED TWICE WITHIN 1 YEAR AND NEED TO HAVE THEM DONE AGAIN(LAST DONE IN JULY 2003).AND WE HAVE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR STALLING WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS.
MY FOCUS'S IGNITION FROZE UP AND WAS UNABLE TO OPERATE. THE DEALER SAID THEY HAD BEEN REPLACING ALOT OF IGNITION CYLINDERS LATELY. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I BOUGHT FROM FORD DID NOT COVER THE PROBLEM. EVERY OTHER FORD I HAVE OWNED HAS HAD TO HAVE THE IGNITION REPLACED AS WELL.*AK

LAST WEEKEND AFTER I PARKED MY CAR I FORGOT TO LOCK THE DOORS AFTER HALF HOUR I WENT OUT AGAIN AND I COULD NOT EVEN PUT THE KEY INTO IGNITION I CALLED FORD DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD TRY TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL, SO I TRIED MANY TIMES, FINALLY THE KEY WENT IN BUT IT COULD NOT TURN THE KEY TO START THE CAR, NOTHING MOVES , NO EVEN THE GEARSHIFT TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND MOVE THE VEHICLE, SO I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT'S A VEHICLE DEFECT AND ALSO THEY TOLD ME THEY DID HAVE 2 MORE CASES SAME AS MINE. SO I ASKED THEM WHAT I CAN DO... THEY SAID I HAVE TO TOWED THE CAR THERE AND TO CHECK AND FIX IT IS AROUND 400 DOLLARS. MY COMPLAIN IS BECAUSE I THINK IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR A WOMAN...
IGNITION LOCKED, WAS UNABLE TO INSERT KEY, AFTER HOUR OF TRIAL. KEY FINALLY GOT INTO THE IGNITION, BUT COULD NOT TURN TO ANY DIRECTION. HAD TO TOW VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, LET DEALERSHIP FIX IT. TOTAL COST WAS OVER $450. *AK
HI, I OWN A 2000 FORD FOCUS AND IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. I PURCHASED THE CAR BRAND NEW IN 2000 AND HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP SO MANY TIMES. I HAVE HAD MY REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW MECHANISM REPLACED BY FORD, THEN PERSONALLY REPLACED THE DRIVER FRONT WINDOW MECHANISM AND THE DRIVER BACK MECHANISM DUE TO CABLE BREAKS. I HAVE HAD IT IN WITH THE RADIO 3 TIMES AND IT STILL DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKES REPLACED, THE IGNITION BLOCK REPLACED, THE STRUTS AND SHOCKS. THE TRUNK RELEASE HAS NEVER WORKED. NOW IT KEEPS BREAKING DOWN ON ME IF I DRIVE FOR MORE THAN 1 HOUR NON STOP. IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN SO KEY IS STUCK INSIDE. *LA
IGNITION LOCKED UP. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT IN 2.5 YEARS. *LA
TECHNICAL BULLETIN NO. 15421 MY IGNITION SWITCH FAILED, PREVENTING ME FROM BEING ABLE TO TURN MY KEY IN THE IGNITION. I HAD TO CALL A LOCKSMITH WHO REPLACED THE SWITH FOR $275. THE LOCKSMITH SAID HE HAD SEEN DOZENS OF FORD FOCUSES WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS, SOMETHING HE BLAME ON A DEFECTIVE SET OF TUMBLERS WITHIN THE SWITCH.
NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH FOCUS. BOUGHT CAR IN 2001. SINCE THE DAY THAT I DROVE OFF THE LOT I HAD SQUEAKY BRAKES. TOOK TO SERVICER AND WAS TOLD DUST ON BRAKES & IT WAS NORMAL. AFTER THREE ATTEMPTS, THEY CHANGED PADS & ROTORS. NOW I HEAR THE SQUEAK AGAIN. CAR CUT OFF WHILE GOING UP A HILL. IT IS LIKE THE SWITCH IS FROZEN IN PLACE. CONSUMER STATES WHEN SHE SPOKE WITH THE MECHANIC ABOUT THE PART THAT IS NOW DEFECTIVE, AND THE YEAR'S WARRANTY IS NOT UP, THE MECHANIC SAYS HE WILL HAVE TO CHARGE HER AGAIN. HE DOES NOT WANT TO HONOR HER WARRANTY ON THE PART WHICH HE PUT ON THE VEHICLE. SHE STATES SHE STILL HAS A COUPLE OF WEEKS LEFT BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. *PH

RADIO HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE/ BRAKES HAD BEEN COMPLETELY REPLACED TWICE/ WHEEL BEARINGS HAD BEEN REPLACED,AND IGNITION WAS REPLACED ONCE AFTER VEHICLE HAD BEEN TOWED. LOW AND BEHOLD, CONSUMER'S FOCUS WAS SITTING IN DRIVEWAY NEEDED TO BE TOWED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. CAR WAS GETTING HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE, SOMETIMES HAD BRAKE FAILURE WHICH CAUSED 2 ACCIDENTS. ALSO, LUGS:NUTS HAD BEEN REPLACED. THE CAR WOULD SOMETIMES STALL FOR NO APPARENT REASON, AND WAS IN NEED OF AN ALTERNATOR.*AK

ALSO MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ON ME ONE DAY IN APRIL OF 2002 THE KEY WOULD NOT FIT INTO THE IGNITION TO START THE CAR I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN FROM ONE DAY TO ANOTHER. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY. THEY SAID THAT THEY NEEDED TO UPDATE THE LOCK CYLINDER. LUCKILY I PURCHASED THE API EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT COVER THE CAR FOR 100,000 MILES. SO THE COST OF THE WORK DONE FOR THIS WAS $427.20. ALL BUT $50.00 OF WHICH WAS MY DEDUCTIBLE WAS COVER BY THIS WARRANTY. THE PROBLEMS DIDN'T STOP HERE. I ALSO HAVE HAD TO GET THE CD SYSTEMS THAT CAME...

DEALERSHIP COULD FIND NO REASON FOR THIS WHILE UNDER INITIAL WARRANTY - ON SECOND ATTEMPT TO FIX THE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED (UNDER 80,000 WARRANTY) DUE TO 'WRONG CHIP FOR THIS CAR' - WHEN CAR WAS PICKED UP IT WAS RUNNING - AFTER PARKING AT HOME COULD NOT RESTART CAR HAD IT TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND ALL CAR KEYS HAD TO BE RE-PROGRAMMED AT OUR COST 'BECAUSE YOU MUST HAVE DONE SOMETHING TO THEM'! WITHIN 2 DAYS CAR WAS ONCE AGAIN FLASHING IT'S BATTERY LIGHT AND SHUDDERING/STALLING! *AK
PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITIOIN CYLINDER. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY FORD THAT NO ONE HAS REPORTED A PROBLEM WITH THIS, BUT I FIND THAT TO BE EXTREMELY CONTRARY NOTING THE EXCESSIVE COMPLAINTS ON JUST THIS WEBSITE ALONE. THE KEY WILL NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION. THEY ARE ASKING NO LESS THAN $300, AND I FIND IF YOU MULTIPLY THAT ESTIMATION BY THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT, THEY HAVE QUITE THE RACKET GOING ON.
THE IGNITION HOUSING LOCKED UP AND AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE MOVED. THE FRONT AXLES ON THE RIGHT SIDE FELL OFF. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THEM. THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS FELL OFF. THE REAR END SLID WHILE DRIVING ON A WET SURFACE. *MR CB *NLM
IGNITION KEY DOES NOT TURN. WITH ONLY 55144 MILES THE IGNITION KEY SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. DEALER STATED THEY HAVE SEVERAL CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM SO IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE PART. I FEEL THE DEALER SHOULD PAY FOR THIS TYPE OF REPAIRS, THERE ARE AT LEAST 50 OTHER CONSUMERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM RIGHT ON THIS SITE. PLEASE CONDUCT AND INVESTIGATION AS SOON AS POSIBLE, SOONER OR LATER SOMEONE WILL BE INJURED AS A RESULT OF THIS FAULTY IGNITION. *AK

CALLED FIVE LOCK SMITHS, ALL REFUSED TO COME OUT TO ATTEMPT TO FIX MY JAMMED IGNITION SWITCH, ALL FIVE STATED THEY HAVE THIS TYPE OF CALL ON THIS CAR (2000 FORD FOCUS) ALL THE TIME AND THAT THEY CAN'T FIX IT, I NEED TO BRING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THE IGNITION CYLINDER REPLACED. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP - $80 - DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE IGNITION CYLINDER NEEDED REPLACING, THAT YES, IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, THAT THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON IT BUT NO RECALL (SAID TO ME THEY FELT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED), AND THAT IT WAS GOING TO RUN ME ABOUT $475 TO GET IT FIXED!! ON JUNE 1, 2003, MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION CYLINDER WHICH WAS DONE ON JUNE 2, 2003 AT STONEHAM MOTOR CO. I PREVIOUSLY HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND SAME REPAIR ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS -- FEBRUARY 11, 2003 AND APRIL 21, 2003. THIS WAS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED IN A COMPLAINT TO YOUR AGENCY (CONFIRMATION NO. 10018431). THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN SO THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN, BUT WAS UNABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS SUCCESSFULLY. ALTHOUGH A NEW IGNITION CYLINDER WAS INSTALLED, I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS PROBLEM MAY CONTINUE TO OCCUR REPEATEDLY BECAUSE OF A DESIGN DEFECT WHICH DOES NOT REQUIRE THE KEY TO BE INSERTED FULLY. AFTER RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. DEALER STATED IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. *AK
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON, AND VEHICLE STARTS TO SHAKE ,AND THEN SHUTS OFF. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND NO WARNING THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF, CAUSING CONSUMER TO PULL OVER AND IT WILL BE HARD TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK STARTED.DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT TURN WHEN PLACING KEY INTO STARTER SWITCH HAD BROKEN. DEALER HAD REPAIRED VEHICLE TWICE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
KEY WILL GO INTO THE IGNITION BUT IGNITION WILL NOT TURN, SECOND TIME. *JB
ON BOTH FEBRUARY 11, 2003 AND APRIL 21, 2003, MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION CYLINDER IN MY FORD FOCUS 2000. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE IGNITION DESIGN MADE THE IGNITION CYLINDERS PRONE TO BREAKING, I BELIEVE BECAUSE IT DOES NOT REQUIRE THE KEY TO BE INSERTED FULLY. I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS WITH THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED BOTH REPAIRS AT NO CHANGE, BUT FROM THE MECHANICS COMMENTS, IT APPEARS THAT A DESIGN DEFECT COULD EXIST. *NLM
THE KEY WOULD NOT GO INTO IGNITION. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED. *NLM
KEY WON'T TURN IN THE IGNITION, STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED ALSO. WAS TOLD WE WOULD HAVE TO TOW IT TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND PAY FOR REPAIRS. *NLM
IGNITION CYLINDER LOCKED UP, CAR TOWED TO DEALER. THEY DRILLED IT OUT AND REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. PROBLEM RECURRED AFTER 18 MONTHS AND 12000 MILES. OUT OF POCKET $606 PLUS THE TOW. CAR HAS ONLY 25000 MILES, BUT IS 4 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY. SHOULD BE RECALLED! *JB
WHEN THE KEY WAS PLACED INSIDE OF THE IGNITION, THE KEY BECAME STUCK. *JB
THE IGNITION DID NOT TURN OFF WHEN THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. *JB THE CONSUMER SUGGESTED THAT WIHOUT ANY WARNING, SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO INSERT THE IGNITION SWITCH. AT LEAST FOUR DEALERSHIPS SAID THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED STALLING AND ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. *SC
