TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE WHERE THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE BACK OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS CAUSES THE ENGINE TO LOCK -UP. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO STATED THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTY ON THIS FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTY FOR THIS FAILURE. THEY OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,530 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000. FORM RETURNED NO CHANGE
I CANNOT EVEN BEGIN TO EXPLAIN THE ISSUES I HAVE HAD WITH MY 2000 FORD FOCUS ZTS. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET AND FORD NEEDS TO REIMBURSE ALL OWNERS... MY ENGINE IS NOW CUTTING OFF WITH NO WARNING AT ANY SPEED AND I AM AFRAID FOR NOT ONLY MY OWN LIFE BUT MY 7 YEAR OLD AND NEWBORN DAUGHTERS AS WELL.... CANNOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR AND AFTER ALL THE PROBLEMS BEFORE THIS SUCH AS OVERHEATING, SMOKING ENGINE, FRIED FUEL SYSTEM, VALVES, SENSORS, RESISTORS, MOTORS, HOSES, WIRES, FUSES, COOLING/HEATING, DOOR LATCHES AND THIS CAR PRACTICALLY SPEEDING UP ON ITS OWN AND NOT STOPPING... TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. THE DEALER PERFORMED OVER $500 WORTH OF REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THEY PASSED IT FOR INSPECTION. THEY EVEN PLACED THEIR OWN INSPECTION STICKER ON THE VEHICLE. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. LATER, THE VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY DISCOVERED A HOLE IN THE ENGINE AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS TWISTED. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, IT STALLED. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE OVER 100,000.
WHILE IDLING IN A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT NOTICE, THROUGH A ROD THROUGH THE BLOCK OF THE MOTOR CAUSING INSTANT AND CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND OR INJURY. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH 2000 MODEL YEAR FOCUS AND HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. I PURCHASED AND INSTALLED A SALVAGE MOTOR FOR ALMOST $2000. *TR
IT STARTED WITH A TICKING NOISE I COULD HEAR WHEN IT JUST IDLED, THEN I GOT HOME STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT MADE A LOUD NOISE LIKE SOMETHING HAD FALLEN INTO THE ENGINE. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND THEN WE HAD SOMEBODY LOOK AT IT THEY SAID THERE WAS NO COMPRESSION IN THE # 4 PISTON. THEY HAD SAID SOMETHING HAD FALLEN OFF THE PISTON AND MADE A BUNCH OF DENTS AND DANGS SO NOW WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. IT IS IN MY DRIVEWAY NOW WAITING TO BE REPAIRED. *TR
MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR. HE GOT TO HIS DESTINATION AND THERE WAS SMOKE BILLOWING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. HE WAS GOING TO OPEN THE HOOD BUT HE NOTICED FLAMES AND HE THEN RETRIEVED AN EXTINGUISHER AND CALLED 911. THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS TOTALLY BURNED AND ALL THE WINDOWS WERE SHATTERED. *TR

SHE STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED A FEW DAYS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND HAS REMAINED ON EVER SINCE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS FAILURE WITH THE FUEL TANK. WHEN THE GAS TANK CAP IS NOT SECURED PROPERLY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE. THE DEALER REMOVED AND REPLACED THE GAS TANK CAP AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIMMED; HOWEVER, IT ILLUMINATED AGAIN A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER. THE LAST TIME THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START HER VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT START. SHE WAITED A COUPLE OF HOURS AND WHEN THE VEHICLE FINALLY RESTARTED, IT MADE A LOUD RUMBLING NOISE. WHITE SMOKE APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE...

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. SHE NOTICED THICK SMOKE RISING FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE WINDOWS WERE ROLLED UP. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS AND NO FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND TOWED TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THERE HAD BEEN NO PREVIOUS FAILURES. DURING THE VEHICLE INSPECTION, A ROD FAILED AND CREATED A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE MOTOR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 69,000.
THE 2000 FORD FOCUS WAS NOT IDLING CORRECTLY. IT WOULD ACT AS IF IT WERE GOING TO DIE AFTER DECELERATION. I HAVE HAD THREE MECHANICES LOOK AT IT INCLUDING A FORD DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THEIR WEBSITE REGARDING A VALVE STICKING. IT REQUIREE D REPLACING THE HEAD AT A COST OF $1500-$2500. FORD HAD SINCE REDESIGNED THE ENGINE SO THIS PROBLEM WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN WITH FUTURE MODELS. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK FOR AN INVESTIGATION OR A RECALL. INSTEAD OF FORD FIXING THEIR DESIGNED DEFECT THEY WERE MAKING MONEY OFF THE REPAIRS FOR SOMETHING THE OWNER COULD NOT PREVENT NOR DOES IT MEAN IMPROPER MAINTENANCE. *AK
I DROVE A 2000 FOCUS ZX3 FOR 3 YEARS WITHOUT A SINGLE PROBLEM. ON MARCH 2007 (90000 MILES) THE CAR STALLED AND DIED COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE OF A CALIFORNIA FREEWAY. AFTER 5 MIN I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND DRIVE TO MY MECHANIC (NOT A FORD DEALER). COMPUTER ANALYSIS SHOWED A FAULTY MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. HE REPLACED IT ($450). TWO DAYS LATER, THE CAR STALLED AGAIN IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA (20 MPH AND FULL TANK OF GAS). THE CAR RESTARTED AND I DROVE BACK TO SAME MECHANIC. HE DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND SUGGESTED I SHOULD DRIVE TO A FORD DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULE AT NO COST BECAUSE OF FORD RECALL #03N01. AFTER THAT THE CAR STALLED (AND DIED) AGAIN WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT (5 MPH AND FULL TANK). FORD TECHNICIANS DROVE THE CAR FOR 150 MILES WHILE HOOKED UP...
CAR ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT NOTICE WHILE CRUISING ON A HIGHWAY. HAD TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY WITH REMAINING SPEED INERTIA. AFTER 10 MINUTES CAR STARTED OK, AND THEN STALLED AGAIN IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. AFTER RESTARTING, THE CAR STALLED A THIRD TIME. NO "CHECK ENGINE" SIGNAL TRIGGERED. MECHANIC UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND UNABLE TO REPRODUCE FAILURE WHILE TEST-DRIVING THE CAR FOR 30 MILES. TWO DAYS LATER, CAR STALLED AGAIN WHILE YIELDING INTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY. HAD TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY, WAIT, RESTART CAR AND GET OFF AT THE NEAREST EXIST. *JB

RECENTLY THE VEHICLE STARTED TO IDLE ERRATICALLY SOMETIMES DYING, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE BOSCH PLATINUM SPARK PLUGS WERE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH FORD VEHICLES AND SOLD ME NEW SPARK PLUGS. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO GO AWAY BUT ABOUT 30 DAYS LATER IT STARTED AGAIN. FRUSTRATED WITH THE DEALERS PERFORMANCE I CHECKED THE VEHICLE MYSELF AND FOUND THAT THE CRANKCASE VENT BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND FIREWALL HAD A RUBBER ELBOW AND HOSE THAT WERE COLLAPSING AFTER THE VEHICLE STARTED. I REMOVED THEM AND FOUND THE ELBOW HAD A HOLE AND THE HOSE SEEMED TO BE STRUCTURALLY WEAKENED. I REPLACED BOTH AND NO MORE PROBLEM. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT'S CAR WAS MARKED AS A TOTAL LOSS AS A RESULT OF A FIRE. THERE WAS AN ENGINE FIRE WHILE IT WAS PARKED. CONTACT HEARD OF SOME OTHER INSTANCES OF THAT HAPPENING. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT FILED.

THE ENGINE BLEW ON MY 2000 FORD FOCUS. A CONNECTING ROD BROKE AND CRACKED THE OIL PAN. ENGINE FLUIDS, INCLUDING OIL AND ANTI-FREEZE POURED OUT OF THE ENGINE. WHILE THERE ARE 130,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, IT WAS WELL-MAINTAINED. WE DID NOT EXPECT IT TO FAIL AFTER 6 YEARS. *NM

THE DEALERSHIP (WAY BROTHERS) WOULD ALWAYS SAY ITS NOT DOING IT NOW OR WE CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. AFTER TAKING IT BACK SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE SAME RESULTS IT STARTED KNOCKING AND CUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WOULD COST 3500-4000 TO FIX (THAT'S WITHOUT KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE ENGINE) I HAD ANOTHER ENGINE INSTALLED AND IT DROVE FINE FOR A YEAR AND STARTED DOING THE SAME THING (LOSING POWER AND CUTTING OFF) THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE SAME THING (CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG) NOW IT IS KNOCKING AND SMOKING FROM THE PIPE LEADING TO THE MANIFOLD. I WAS RETURNING TO FLORIDA FROM NEW ORLEANS IN MID FEBRUARY, 2006 WHEN MY CAR STALLED. IT WAS EXTREMELY HOT OUTSIDE AND THE ENGINE SEEMED EXTREMELY HOT, BUT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOWED NO PROBLEM. I WAITED A HALF HOUR AND THE CAR RESTARTED ONLY TO STALL AGAIN AFTER 20 MINUTES OR SO OF DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED THE WHOLE WAY DOWN TO FLORIDA. I OWN A 2000 FORD FOCUS AND AMONG ALL THE RECALLED PARTS I'VE FIXED THE CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE PROBLEMS. THE CAR JUMPS EITHER WHEN I PRESS THE GAS OR IF THE CAR IS IN IDLE. I'VE BROUGHT IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY THOUGHT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE OIL LEAKING IN MY SPARK PLUGS WHICH THEY FIXED AND GAVE ME A TUNE UP WITH ALL FORD PARTS. OF COURSE NOW THEY SUGGEST BRINGING IT TO THE DEALER AND HAVE FORD RUN TESTS. I'VE PROBABLY HAVE GOTTEN SOMETHING FIXED ON MY CAR EVERY 6 MONTHS FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS. FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, WHEN I WOULD GO TO START MY FORD FOCUS (2000 SE), I WOULD FEEL A SMALL AMOUNT OF TURBULENCE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. TODAY, AS I DELIVERED MY NEWSPAPER ROUTE, THE ENGINE HAD A LOUD UNRYTHMIC TICK TO IT. BY THE AFTERNOON, WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TURN ON THE CAR, THE ENGINE SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND MADE A TERRIBLE 'CLANKING' SOUND THAT ECHOED LOUDLY FROM WITHIN THE CHAMBERS OF THE ENGINE. I HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART MY VEHICLE, BECAUSE MY MECHANIC WARNED THAT HE HAS WORKED ON THREE OTHER FOCUS MODELS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. TWO OF THOSE VEHICLES EXPERIENCED AN EXPLODING OF THEIR ENGINES. MY VEHICLE WILL COST ANYWHERE BETWEEN 500$ AND 1000$ TO REPAIR, BUT EVEN THEN THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL BE REMEDIED. CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL LETTER FOR 2000 FOCUS FUEL PUMP AND WAS REFUSED SERVICE. *TS THE CONSUMER STATED THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED THE FIRST TIME WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS FROM THE DEALER, HOWEVER THE CONSUMER RECEIVED ANOTHER LETTER WHICH STATED THE FUEL PUMP HAD BEEN RE-DESIGNED AND IT WOULD BE REPLACED WITHOUT ANY CHARGE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP STATING IT WAS FOR SOME MODELS NOT ALL, EVEN THOUGH THE CONSUMER WAS EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS AT THAT TIME. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE 3RD CYLINDER IN THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB

2000 FORD FOCUS DIED WHILE DRIVING AND THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. *MR *SC CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT POSSIBLY THE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TT
DT: THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A THUMPING NOISE AT 35 MPH, STARTED OVER WEEKEND, THE ENGINE MOUNT CRACKED AND ENGINE DROPPED FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS IN MOTION. WAS GOING 40 MPH, AND HAD ONLY 58,000. DEALER LOOKED AT IT ,AND SAID IT WASN'T UNDER RECALL. THE PRESSURE OF THE ENGINE BREAKING. ALSO BROKE THE AXLE. *AK

WE HAVE A 2000 FORD FOCUS. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR EVER SINCE SEPTEMBER TO PRESENT DATE. NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR. EVER SENSE SEPTEMBER THIS CAR HAS BEEN THROUGH 4 DEALERSHIPS. (POMOCO SMITHFIELD, POMOCO LINCOLN MERCURY, POMOCO JEEP, AND FREEDOM FORD) 2 RECALL NOTICES WERE PERFORMED.(FUEL DELIVERY MODULE AND THE PINCH BOLT BATTERY CABLES OR "STEERING LINKAGES".) THE CAR HAS CUT OFF ON ME A TOTAL OF 16 TIMES THAT I CAN DEFINITELY RECALL. I HIT A CURB DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR WAS DAMAGED. THIS COMPLAINT IS CONCERNING CLARIFICATION OF OUR PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS TO NHTSA REGARDING THE 2000 FORD FOCUS : #10104088 AND #10107840. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE MISINTERPRETATION OF DATA COLLECTED BY YOUR AGENCY AND POSTED FOR PUBLIC REVIEW. DEATHS ARE NOT POSTED, NOR ARE THEY INCLUDED AS INJURIES. THIS MISREPRESENTS THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT FAILURES REPORTED. *JB
CAR IS A LEMON. RADIO HAS FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES. DOOR LOCKS AND IGNITION LOCK HAVE FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES. CURRENT PROBLEM IS CAR STALLS AT INTERSECTIONS. EMISSION LIGHT IS ON AND STAYS ON. DEAL CAN NOT FIX.*JB I CONSIDER THE STALLING AT INTERSECTIONS TO BE VERY DANGEROUS. IF SOMEONE IS MOVING FORWARD ASSUMING THE CAR WILL MOVE, AND IT DOES NOT BECAUSE OF THE STALL, A CRASH MAY RESULT.
DEFECTIVE FRONT BRAKE ROTOR. *PH DURING THE INSPECTION THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE DEFECT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY. OTHER VEHICLE COMPONENTS ALSO MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE'S TRUNK LATCH BROKE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED TWICE, THE CD PLAYER BECAME INOPERATIVE AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. *NM
SINCE BUYING THIS CAR IN OCTOBER 2000, I HAVE HAD 4 FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENTS. THE CAR IS NOW ON ITS 5TH FUEL PUMP, AND THE PROBLEM THE FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT IS SUPPOSED TO CORRECT IS STILL HAPPENING. THE CAR STILL HAS TROUBLE (ESPECIALLY IN WET OR HUMID WEATHER) WITH SPUTTERING AND JOLTING/SURGING. MOST RECENTLY IT HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE AND WORSE. LUCKILY THE SURGING HAS (OF YET!) WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, AND HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED VEHICLE STALLED, CAUSING CONSUMER TO DRIFT OFF THE ROAD. MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE ENGINE FAILED.*AK
AFTER RESEARCHING DIFFERENT COMPLAINT SITES ON THE INTERNET I REALIZED I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2000 FORD FOCUS SE. MY CAR OFTEN SHUTTERS WHEN I APPROACH A STOP. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS A SERIOUS ENGINE PROBLEM, THAT THERE IS A SMALL WHOLE IN MY CYLINDER GASKET, AND THE WHOLE CYLINDER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY QUOTED ME $1,700 PLUS TAX FOR THIS WORK. *LA
VEHICLE ENGINE ON A 2000 FORD FOCUS ZX3 W/ 2.0L DOHC ZETEC ENGINE ROUTINELY STALLS WHEN GOING AROUND CORNERS. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TRAVEL ON HIGHWAY ON/OFF RAMPS. THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED TWICE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CURVE WHICH CAUSED A TEMPORARY LOST OF CONTROL ON THE VEHICLE. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE ENGINE WILL RESUME NORMAL OPERATION AND CONTINUE. IN BOTH CIRCUMSTANCES, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY AND ACCELERATE OUT OF A TURN. THE ENGINE WAS CHECKED OUT AND IS IN NORMAL OPERATING ORDER. *JB
NHTSA RECAL 03V482000 CONCERNING INTERMITTENT STALLING. AFTER RECALL REPAIRS VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. DEALER DETERMINED THAT VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. *AK
ENGINE STALLS AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. TAKEN TO DEALER TWICE, LAST TIME NEW UPDATED FUEL PUMP PUT IN AS PER RECALL. STILL STALLS EVEN AFTER THAT.*AK
TOOK MY 2000 FORD FOCUS TO DEALER FOR 30,000 MILE SERVICE, AND TO HAVE THEM FIX WHATEVER WAS CAUSING THE ENGINE LIGHT TO BLINK AND THE CAR TO IDLE ROUGHLY, AND TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR ENGINE TURNING OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE SERVICE WAS DONE AND THE FUEL FILTER "RECALL" WOULD FIX THE ENGINE PROBLEM. WAS TOLD THE COMPUTER DID NOT REGISTER AN ERROR CODE AND THAT THE ROUGH IDLEENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM WAS LIKELY FIXED AS A RESULT OF THE FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT. THE NEXT MORNING, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON AND THE CAR WAS STILL IDLING ROUGH. DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR HAD EXCESSIVE CARBON IN THE CYLINDER HEAD AND THAT THE CYLINDER HEAD MIGHT NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY WOULD TRY TO CLEAN THE CARBON, WHICH THEY DID AND BILLED ME $205. DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SUCH A...
(2000-FORD FOCUS ZTS - 29,536 MILES) IN ADDITION TO A PRIOR INCIDENT WHEN MY CAR STALLED ON HIGHWAY 635 WHEN I WAS GOING APPROX. 60 MPH IN THE CENTER LANE, IT HAS STALLED "TWICE" TODAY WITHIN JUST 1 HOUR DURING MY LUNCH BREAK! IN ALL INCIDENTS THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND THE ENGINE STOPPED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING WHATSOEVER. IN BOTH OCCURENCES, I WAS DRIVING AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT AND WAS NEITHER ACCELERATING NOR DECELERATING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE RADIO WENT OUT, WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE ENGINE DIED. WHILE DRIVING 20-25 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED IT WAS AN ENGINE PROBLEM. BUT, THERE WAS NO RECALL. *AK
TIMING BELT BROKE DUE TO DEFECTIVE BELT TENSIONER BEARING, CAUSING ENGINE TO STOP, VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED AND TIMING BELT AND BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED. INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 39,324 MILES. *JB
