2013 FORD F-150 Service Brakes Problems

while applying the brake i had complete brake failure. I learned the brake booter and master cylinder were leaking as describe in the recall.

Put the truck in reverse [from park] and when I braked the pedal went to the floor and took many seconds to stop the vehicle. Checked the brake fluid, very low, filled it, pumped the brakes until it was no longer to the floor, checked the fluid again and filled it again. Parked it then tested it 20 minutes later, brakes were to the floor. Took it to mechanic who added brake fluid and looked everywhere underneath for leaking, found no brake fluid leak anywhere. Checked online for recall on defective braking system and found this. The contact stated that the son was driving approximately 93 MPH, and while approaching a stop light, the vehicle continued to drive into an intersection and crashed into a commercial Semi truck. Complete, instant brake failure at only 105871 miles. My wife was backing out of the drive @5 mph, brake pedal pushed clear to floor with no warning. 3-4 minutes later, the brake warning light came on. No warning light ahead of time. Reservoir was very low, I added 12 oz. DOT3 fluid…..brakes seemed ok. Got up the next morning , brake low fluid light is on and all 12 oz of brake fluid are gone, not a drip anywhere to be seen. My Vehicle has 116,000 miles and the CPU/ ABS Unit is not working. I took it to a Ford Dealership and they said the part alone is $3,000.00 . I feel although the vehicle is 12 years old it has low mileage and I feel that a part of this type should not malfunction. Traction Control Module failed -- (as diagnosed and confirmed by the dealer) I did a quick stop (someone cut in front of me), and felt the anti-locks 'kick in'. Later that day, the dashboard lit up with three warning lights and two messages stating that the anti-lock and brake systems needed to be serviced. I am not sure what risks are associated with this --- but... its the braking system. The repair cost estimate: Nearly $6,000.00

I was recently driving on the freeway in the #1 lane when my 2013 F150 began to experience a loss of power. While traveling at 70 mph, I noticed that my transmission had shifted and was stuck in 5th gear. I continued to depress the accelerator with no response. I then felt a sudden jolt from the transmission shifting to a lower gear and continued to travel. There was no warning light indicating that the truck was experiencing a malfunction. On Nov 26th I took my truck to an authorized Ford dealership service department who performed a diagnostic test on the transmission who recommended an immediate transmission flush and service, which I scheduled immediately. Master Cylinder leaked into brake booster causing complete brake failure. Had to use downshifting and emergency brake to stop. Contact Ford and they said not on recall list. Have a nice day.

I started the truck and as I backed out of a parking spot, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and the brakes did not stop the truck. I used the emergency brake to stop and pulled back into the parking spot. I checked the brake fluid and it was low. I purchased some at the store I was at and filled up the reservoir. I pumped the brakes and they appeared to work. After driving for about a block the brake fluid light came on and the reservoir was empty. No fluid leaking anywhere under the vehicle.

Brake pedal goes very hard and unless you press with both feet you will not stop. it happens intermittently. Almost had two accidents because of this and I knew what to do. If someone else was driving there would definitely been an accident. Also the engine mounted vacuum pump is leaking oil which seems to be a problem with everyone on these vehicles. The oil leaking directly onto the hot tubo creating a burning smell.

The brakes instantly became soft and unresponsive with a warning chime and message to service the vehicle. The brake fluid reservoir was empty with no apparent leaks on the vehicle. I refilled the brake reservoir only to watch it disappear over a short time. I researched and found there is a recall 16S24 impacting Ford F150 ecoboost vehicles with this exact symptom. My vehicle does not show up on the recall list having been manufactured at the Dearborn facility in June of 2013 where the cutoff was August 2013. At this point, Ford has refused to recognize this issue is the same.

I took my truck in a couple of weeks ago to get the recall done due to downshifting. Picked it up the next day and they told me they resolved the issue. The next day it happened again and it continued for a week. I called the dealership (Holmes Tuttle Ford) and they said they would charge me $200 plus maintenance fee even though it is a recall. Fast forward to today and my truck went out and will not start. Called ford and they informed me that although they cleared the recall they did not actually fix the problem because it was not present when they turned it on and told me I would have to repair it on my own even though they did not attempt to fix it.

The truck slammed into 1st gear going 55 mph on the interstate. Through investigation a speed sensor warning was the culprit. Not being able to have truck service for a month due to Ford Dealers being backed up Cavalier Ford sent a mobile mechanic out to me. He spent about 10 minutes on my truck handed me the keys and told me he did something with the computer mo parts are needed. He never test drove it to ensure the problem was corrected. Brake fluid is leaking into the brake booster, im not understanding why the recall back in 2020 didn't cover my truck. 2013 f150's were recalled but the Ford dealership says they show nothing.

My break went out an I hit my garage when I start my vehicle or if I’m going down a hill slow the breaks get really hard to push an almost want stop all my breaks an calipers are new so it’s a different issue

Master Cylinder failed, causing all fluid to go into the booster, which resulted in no braking ability at all. fortunately I was in a parking lot when the occured, the vehicle was traveling at slow speed and was stopped by coming up against a curb. the low brake fluid warning came on at the time of total failure, this would have resulted in a serious accident had it occured on the roadway. the vehcle is being repaired at a local shop after it was towed there following this incident. An attempt was made to refill the master cylinder with brake fluid but it immediately empted with any attempt to use the brakes. there was no other visible sign of leak.

I’ve went though 8 wheel bearings in the last 6 months on the drivers side tire alone. I’ve had to replace brake hoses every few weeks and I’ve had to take it to two different dealerships. Also it keep downshift from 6 gear to first with no warning. I’m afraid it’s gonna cause me to wreck.

After driving the truck 5 to 1 minutes on highway or low speeds brakes loose pressure and brake pedal becomes very stiff. Truck almost doesn’t stop with brake pushed fully. Did some research and other model years have been recalled for bad brake booster vacuum leak

I have had numerous brake issues on my 2013 Ford F-150 SuperCrew. One repair was done in the warranty period and 2-3 were not. This vehicle had less than 81,000 miles on it when all of this work was done. It was recently repaired and still isn’t solved. I’ve had two major accidents where my vehicle rear ended other vehicles because of its failure to immediately stop on braking. The dealership can’t solve the problem or don’t know how and I’m afraid to continue to drive this unsafe vehicle.

I was backing into my parking spot at work and my dash dinged and the red brake system warning flashed on my dash, I couldn't push my brake pedal down, lost my brakes. This was very scary. I have lost them before, but not as bad as this time. They didn't come back this time. I am so glad I was in a parking lot and not around other cars.

Brakes are very hard to push the pedal, checked the vacuum pump, and have a good vacuum going to the master cylinder. Brake fluid level is good. Check brake system light comes on after the engine is started and running for about 30 seconds. All reports show that there is no current recalls on my truck.

2013 Ford F-150 SuperCrew FX4 w/ 3.5L Twin Turbo Ecoboost engine. 9/9/2022 8:30am: At start, some whirring/squeaking noise audible in cab. Became louder as brake pedal was pressed. Brake Fluid loss and loss of braking in traffic

Complete failure of brakes on the freeway without warning. Local mechanic diagnosed the issue as "master cylinder leaking into the brake booster" which is the same exact issue that the 3.5 liter engine vehicles are having. The 3.5 liter engine vehicles have a recall, but not the 3.7 liter engine vehicles but it's the same issue.

Slowing down to make a left turn. Brakes failed very difficult to press brake pad and Power transmission system was not responding properly causing my truck brakes to fail, transmission was slipping and the rear tires to slide. End result was a Crash into a pole at a corner. My truck was totaled by the insurance company costing me over $9,000 to replace the truck after the insurance payment. Recall for Master Cylinder and Power train issued after my crash on 2/2/2018.

On August 8, 2022 I noticed a "low brake fluid" warning light on the dash of my Ford F150 truck and experienced greatly reduced brake function. There was no sign of brake fluid on the garage floor. I had AAA tow the truck to a repair shop where they diagnosed a leak from the master cylinder to the brake boost. The master cylinder reservoir was completely and at this point the brakes were completely non functional. I had the repair shop replace the master cylinder, brake boost and do a fuel system maintenance since some of the fluid was found in that system. Total cost to repair was $1583.83.

I was pulling a heavy load within the weight limit for my truck. I started down a steep grade 10mph below speed limit. I went to brake and I had none. The pedal was super hard. The check brake system light came on. I was freaking out because i was picking up speed fast. I had no choice but to shift to manual and down shift to try to slow down. While driving down the road the low brake fluid light came on. I drove to a safe stopping area and found the brake fluid reservoir was completely empty. I checked for leaks at all areas under the hood and at brake calipers. No signs of any leaks nor any fluid on the ground. Filled reservoir and drove less than 1 mile and the low brake fluid light came on again. Stopped and checked the brake fluid reservoir and once again it was empty, still no signs of any leaks: based on research I have determined that it is a known problem with this make/model and year of the master cylinder seal going bad which causes the fluid to be sucked into the brake booster.

Heading home on fwy and brakes totally went out and low brake fluid light came on. Was able to pull onto side of fwy. All the brake fluid was gone and no sign of leakage. Was towed home. Filled brake reservoir up and as soon as I hit brakes again all the fluid disappeared. Upon inspection there was no sign of leak anywhere. I'm assuming the fluid is leaking into the brake booster since I cannot see any leaks anywhere.

I have a serious issue with my 2013 Ford F150 Limited. I almost had a horrible accident on I295 because of brake failure. I lose all brake pressure driving at certian times. my brakes 100% of the time make this horrible grinding noise and I lose braking power after going from drive to reverse. I always end up getting a check brake system warning message. There is a recall for the vacuum pump and for a seal that is bad but I'm not included since my vehicles manufacturer date is 2/13 and not 8/13. I feel like this is wrong and not fair

I was turning into gas station when I applied brakes to turn, power steering quit working and brakes, luckily there was no one exiting or i would have crashed into them. I was able to muscle steering wheel to make the turn. I then muscled steering wheel to a parking spot where brakes began to work. Dash board read check advance track there were no check engine lights or warning prior to turning. I then shut off vehicle then turned back on and it ran fine but drove with caution. This has happened 2 other times where power steering has feld but came back suddenly but this time on 2/11/22 I had no power steering at all for at least 60 to 70 feet. Was stopped at a red light, when my brake pedal suddenly went to the floor and the truck started moving forward toward the car stopped in front of me. Drove around the car and pulled off to the side. Tested it and found the brakes slowly stopped the truck if I pumped them. Got the truck home and found no leaks in any of the brake lines, wheel cylinders or master cylinder. Checked on line and found many others with the same problem; many of whom were not covered in Certain 2013-2014 Model Year Ford F-150 trucks equipped with 3.5L Ecoboost Engines, Brake Master Cylinder Replacement recall #16S24, as mine was also not covered.

Complete loss of braking power resulting in very dangerous driving condition to n way home. Inspection seems to be a leering master break cylinder into booster. Was driving home on highway and came to a stop light, when pressing the brakes my pedal when all the way to the ground with no stopping power to speak of followed by warnings of low break fluid. Had there been another vehicle there present this would have resulted in a very bad incident. Vehicle accelerated without driver pressing gas pedal and RPM gauge jumped up to 5 (which is red zone). Brake pedal went to the floor when brakes were applied instead of causing the vehicle to stop. Emergency brake was used, and driver lost control of the vehicle resulting in a terrible accident. The crash caused injuries to driver and the death of a bicyclist.

Took vehicle in for recall issue and job not completed according to recall specifications. Break booster will need to be replaced if break cylinder leaks into part.
