THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING RUBBING/GRINDING NOISES WHEN STEERED (BOTH DIRECTIONS) IN NORMAL OPERATION. THIS WAS ACCOMPANIED BY SLUGGISH STEERING. AT ONE POINT THE WARNING LIGHTS INDICATED THAT THE STEERING SYSTEM REQUIRED SERVICE "NOW!". UPON PULLING OVER AND STOPPING, THE STEERING LOCKED UP, MAKING THE VEHICLE UNABLE TO DRIVE. MY FORD SERVICE TECH ADVISED THAT THE STEERING GEAR BOX WAS "BAD". THEY REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE PART AT THE EXPENSE (TO ME) OF $1,700.
DRIVING 80 MPH ON THE TURNPIKE AND STEERING BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO MANUVEUR. IF THE STEERING WOULD'VE FROZE, IT COULD'VE RESULTED IN A FATAL CRASH GOING 80 MPH. TAKE TO DEALERSHIP AND IT NEEDS A NEW POWER STEERING RACK WHICH COSTS $1,800. IT APPEARS CERTAIN VINS FOR MY YEAR, MAKE, MODEL WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT MY WAS NOT AND IS NOT ELIGIBLE BUT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED BY FORD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE MAKING LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO INSPECT AND DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER WHEN I WENT TO MAKE A TURN AND THE WHEEL FROZE WITHOUT WARNING. THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED AND I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE STEERING RACK AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE SUV WAS HARD TO STEER. THIS HAPPENED WHEN I FIRST STARTED THE VEHICLE. THE FORD DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS THE RACK AND PINION AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I HAVE SEEN A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM ON A LOT OF 2013 FORD EXPLORERS BUT THE DEALER SAID THAT MINE WAS NOT ONE ON RECALL. I BELIEVE IT NEEDS TO BE BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND EVIDENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE FORD EXPLORER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COST TO REPLACE IT WAS $1800. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM ON THE RECALL FITS EXACTLY TO THE PROBLEM THIS VEHICLE IS HAVING.
WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING HOME, I GOT A YELLOW CAUTION MESSAGE TO SERVICE THE POWER STEERING SOON. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY TO MAKE A REST STOP AND WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN, THE SAME MESSAGE POPPED UP, FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY A RED WARNING MESSAGE TO SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW. VEHICLE HAD NO POWER STEERING ON THE REMAINING DRIVE HOME.
VEHICLE HAS BECOME HARD TO STEER & TAKES EXTRA EFFORT. WAS DIAGNOSED BY FORD DEALER AS HAVING A FAULTY ELECTRICAL COMPONENT IN THE STEERING RACK. FORD SERVICE MANAGER STATED THE STEERING CAN COMPLETELY LOCK UP WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING IF STEERING RACK NOT REPLACED. STEERING RACK MUST BE REPLACED AT APPROX. COST OF $1500.

THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO USE THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
BACK IN OCTOBER 2016 I MOVED MY EXPLORER IN MY DRIVE WAY EVERYTHING WAS FINE NEXT DAY COULDN'T DRIVE OR MOVE IT THE POWER ASSIST WAS BEEPING ON THE DASH STEERING WHEEL DON'T EVEN MOVE WHEELS DON'T MOVE .... $2000 AND UP TO FIX IT NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD THAT AND IT HAS TO BE TAKING TO A FORD DEALERSHIP!!SO IT STILL SITS IN MY DRIVE WAY TODAY I HAVE ASK FORD MOTOR TO HELP THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN .......
TOTAL LOSE OF STEERING IN 2013 FORD EXPLORER 2/26/17 WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROAD AT 55 MPH, NO WARNING LIGHTS. ENGINE STAYED ON BUT VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT (YES WE WENT INTO THE MEDIAN) VEHICLE WAS MAKING NOISE (SITTING WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL) A FEW DAYS BEFORE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FORD DEALER. I LOOKED UP THE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE ELECTRONIC STEERING, THERE WERE NONE LISTED.
POWER STEERING FAULT MESSAGE AND COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING, WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE HAS APPROX 46,800 MILES ON IT. VEHICLE EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER, AND LEFT ON STREET OVERNIGHT. WENT TO START NEXT DAY AND ERROR MESSAGE GONE. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL INVOLVING THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM. I THINK THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO FURTHER. TO LOSE YOUR STEERING ON A HIGHWAY WOULD BE CATASTROPHIC.
THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 15MPH AND STARTED TO MAKE A TURN WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CAR JUMPED THE CURB AND CAME TO STOP. VEHICLE DASHBOARD SAID 'POWER STEERING FAILURE' THE VEHICLES IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF BY THE DRIVER AND THEN WAS RE-STARTED. THE POWER STEERING THEN CAME BACK AND WAS FUNCTIONING.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET MY VEHICLE LURCHED AND THE TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAULT LIGHT AND ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND I LOST MY POWER STEERING. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SHUT IT OFF AND WAITER FOR ABOUT A MINUTE THEN RESTARTED IT. IT IDLED ROUGH FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN SMOOTHED OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. *TR
I HAD NO PRIOR ISSUES WITH STEERING AND I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE SEPTEMBER 29, 2016. I PARKED MY VEHICLE AT HOME OVERNIGHT AND WHEN I STARTED IT THE NEXT MORNING, THE POWER STEERING FAIL WARNING POPPED UP ON MY DASH AND IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL.
MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER HAS HAD ITS POWER STEERING ASSIST STOP WORKING 3 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. HAPPENED WHEN DRIVING ON A MILD TURN ON A 2 LANE BLACKTOP WINDING ROAD - COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS WAS A RECALLED ITEM FOR THESE CARS FROM 2011 THROUGH 2013 BUT BASED ON MY VIN NUMBER FORD IS SAYING THAT IT IS NOT COVERED. MY CAR OBVIOUSLY HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALLED VINS ON FILE. WE DROVE FROM AUSTIN TO FORT WORTH, NO PROBLEM, STOPPED A FEW HOURS AT OUR HOTEL,THEN GOT BACK IN CAR, STARTED IT AND COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL OR MOVE THE CAR. THANKFULLY WE WERE STATIONARY.

GOT IT TOWED TO CLOSEST FORD. GOT IT CHECKED OUT, AND ITS EPAS REPLACEMENT 1500 WHAT A NICE WAY TO END THE YEAR.

I HAVE CODES C1B00-62, U2001, U0415, AND THE SAME ISSUE THAT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF RECALL 14S06, BUT MY VIN IS NOT IN THE DATA BASE FOR THIS. THE RECALL SPECIFICALLY CALLS OUT VEHICLES FROM THE CHICAGO PLANT. 11TH LETTER IN MY VIN SHOWS IT CAME FROM THE CHICAGO PLANT. FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSE TO CONSIDER THIS A RECALL ITEM, I STRONG DISAGREE WITH THEM. *TR
POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. 2013 FORD EXPLORER, 86,000 MILES. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AROUND A CURVE, GOING ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR ON A HIGHWAY, WHEN IT FIRST WENT OUT. THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED ITSELF BACK TO THE CENTER AND MY WIFE HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES AND FORCE THE WHEEL TO STEER SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE SCREEN SHOWS ATC NEEDS TO BE SERVICED. CODES SHOWN ARE : C1B00-STEERING ANGLE SENSOR U0131- LOST COMMUNICATION WITH POWER STEERING MODULE MY VEHICLE IS NOW UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE IS A RECALL FOR EARLIER MANUFACTURE DATES CONCERNING WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE.
VEHICLE PARKED OVERNIGHT. STARTED VEHICLE TO LEAVE GARAGE. POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CAME ONTO SCREEN. STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN, LOCKED UP. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE IN 3 WEEKS. THIS IS A KNOWN STEERING GEAR PROBLEM.

MADE IT HOME, PARKED AND TURNED OFF VEHICLE. RESTARTED VEHICLE AND HAD TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING. STEERING WHEEL LOCKED COMPLETELY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED. STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO POWER STEERING GEAR HAS INTERNAL FAULT. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD OUR VEHICLE VIN # IS NOT CURRENTLY ON THE RECALL LIST.
POWER STEERING WENT OUT, UNABLE TO DRIVE VEHICLE ANYWHERE. VERY DANGEROUS, COULD HAVE CAUSED A WRECK.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST ALL POWER STEERING ON THE CAR. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. RESTARTED THE CAR AND POWER STEERING CAME BACK.
THE POWER STEERING ASSIST HAS DEFAULTED NUMEROUS TIMES AND LOCKED MY STEERING WHEEL UP. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON HAS RESOLVED THE MATTER FOR NOW, BUT I AM AFRAID IT WILL LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. THE SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC WARNING HAS ALSO COME UP A COUPLE OF TIMES. ALL 4 OF THE STEERING DEFECTS HAVE OCCURRED BETWEEN THE DATES OF SEPTEMBER 1ST AND SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2016.

WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE HE ASKED ME TO START THE CAR AND SEE IF THE POWER STEERING STILL WORKED I DID IT AND THE POWER STEERING DID NOT WORK THE REPAIR WAS DONE AT NO CHARGE UNDER MY WARRANTY WITH NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY IT HAPPENED

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A BOLT LOCATED IN THE STEERING WHEEL FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,688. UPDATED 09/30/16*LJ UPDATED 10/04/16.*JB
STEERING FAILS ON THE HIGHWAY. THE SERVICE POWER ASSIST AND SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC WARNINGS COME ON. THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER STEERING ASSIST AND IT WILL NOT RESET BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. THE BLINKERS WILL ALSO NOT WORK WHEN THIS ERROR HAPPENS. IT HAS ALREADY BEEN TO THE DEALER TO BE "REPROGRAMMED" BUT THAT FIX ONLY LASTED 1 1/2 DAYS. VEHICLE IS NOW UNDRIVABLE WITHOUT REPLACING THE UNIT, WHICH IS UNDER RECALL FOR 1.5 MILLION OTHER FORD VEHICLES.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING.

WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE WINDSHIELD WOULD VIBRATE AND THE AMBIENT LIGHTING WOULD DEFAULT TO WHITE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, WHICH HINDERED THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY OF ALL THE GAUGES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING ON MY CAR. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY CAR'S YEAR MODEL FOR THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, FORD SAID IT DOES NOT COVER THE MONTH MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME THEY VERIFIED THAT IT WAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT THE RECALLED VEHICLES HAD. I THEN OPENED UP A CASE NUMBER WITH FORD AND AFTER A MONTH OF WAITING THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT BE COVERING THIS DEFECT. THE CAR IS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER AND SOMETIMES NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. HOWEVER, FORD DOES NOT SEEM TO CARE.
36,000 MILES ON MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER. STARTED UP MY CAR AND WENT TO BACK UP AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. MY CAR WAS BUILT AFTER THE CUT OFF OF THE RE-CALL AND WILL BE HAVING IT LOOKED AT AND FIXED ON MONDAY. FORD NEEDS TO EXTEND THE RE-CALL TO LATER MODELS AS THIS PROBLEM IS EFFECTING A LOT MORE FORDS THEN THEY THOUGHT. THIS IS OUT RIGHT WRONG OF FORD.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND WHEN I STARTED TO BACK UP THE MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED AND FLASHED POWER ASSIST AND THE STEERING WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN. I PULLED FORWARD INTO THE PARKING SPACE, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. AT THIS POINT THE POWER STEERING RETUNED AND I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. FORD HAS A RECALL FOR SIMILAR 2011-2013 EXPLORERS BUT THE VIN CODE SERIES ON MY EXPLORER DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE CURRENT RECALL WHICH IS #14S06. I HAVE ATTACHED A SERVICE INVOICE OF THE REPAIRS DONE WHICH ARE THE EXACT REPAIRS THE RECALL #14S06 CALLS FOR.
ONE WEEK AFTER I PURCHASED MY BRAND NEW FORD THE TRANSMISSION STARTED GOING BAD AFTER A MONTH I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS DEFECTIVE AND I HAD A NEW TRANSMISSION INSTALLED MY AIR BAG SENSORS WERE CHANGED CAUSE THEY WERE DEFECTIVE MY TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED AGAIN AND WAS REPAIRED AGAIN AND THE FUEL WAS ALSO RECALLED MY FORD STILL GIVE ME A VERY BAD SMELL WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I BELIEVE IT STILL HAS DAMAGE IN THE TRANSMISSION ALSO WHEN I WENT TO GET MY CAR BALANCED WITH FORD THE POWER STEERING PIECE THAT WAS ELECTRIC THAT COST ME ALMOST 1,000.00 PLEASE I CAN TAKE ANY HELP I CAN GET
I HAVE A 2013 FORD EXPLORER WITH 44,000 MILES AND SENT IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAID THE POWER STEERING GEAR BOX IS NOT FUNCTIONING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS A RECALL ON FORD EXPLORER'S FOR THE 2011-2013 MODELS FOR THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT", WHICH DID COME ON AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED IN MY VEHICLE. I CONTACT FORD DIRECTLY AND THEY WERE OF NO HELP AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE.
DRIVING APPROX 45MPH THROUGH TOWN ON A MULTI-LANE ROADWAY, STEERING BECAME VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE, NEARLY LOCKING UP. WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT DAMAGE OR INJURY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY TOWING COMPANY TO NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP AWATING EVALUATION/REPAIR AT THIS TIME.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. I MOMENTARILY FELT PANICKED INSIDE, MY CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR AND WE WERE GOING 70. TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED AND IT DROVE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT SEEMED FINE. 9 MONTHS LATER (APRIL 2016) IT HAPPENED AGAIN DRIVING 45MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO FORCE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND CALM DOWN. THE CAR WOULD BARELY STEER. IT WAS HARDER TO MANEUVER THAN DRIVING AN OLDER VEHICLE WITHOUT POWER STEERING. IT WAS JUST SHORT OF BEING LOCKED UP. AGAIN IT RESET AFTER TURNING ON AND OFF ABOUT 5 TIMES. IT WAS EVENING AND I DECIDED IT HAD TO GO BACK TO THE SHOP THE NEXT DAY. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
TAKATA INFLATORS, I BOUGHT MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER IN JULY OF 2015. BY NOVEMBER 2015 MY CAR HAD BEEN MAKING VERY LOUD SCRAPING NOISES EVERY TIME I TURNED RIGHT OR LEFT. I BROUGHT IT TO THE FORD DEALER THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM TO GET IT CHECKED OUT. THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING RACK, WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL. IN RESEARCHING ONLINE I FOUND THAT SOME 2013 FORD EXPLORERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND ARE COVERED UNDER AN ACTIVE RECALL. MINE STILL IS NOT!!! I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN AND WAS TOLD THAT IT NEEDED TO GET FIXED ASAP OTHERWISE MY STEERING WHEEL COULD FREEZE UP, WHICH WOULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND PUT OUR LIVES IN DANGER. I AM VERY UPSET WITH THIS AS I HAD TO PAY $1561.00 OUT OF POCKET AND OUR LIVES WERE IN DANGER!!!!
WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE THE STEERING SEEMS TO "STICK" AND WHEN YOU APPLY MORE PRESSURE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL, THE VEHICLE JERKS AND DARTS YOU INTO THE OTHER LANE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO OTHER VEHICLES SUCH AS CONSTRUCTION ZONES OR NARROW RURAL ROADS WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC.

THE "POWER STEERING FAULT" LIGHT WAS ON WHEN I WAS DRIVING. AND I LOST STEERING ABILITY AT ALL. I MANAGED TO DRIVE TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER, AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $1800 FOR REPLACEMENT. THIS IS BECAUSE SOMEHOW I WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR POWER STEERING. THIS IS ABSURD!
