TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT WAS OVERCOME BY EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT BECAME EXHAUSTED AND HAD SEVERE HEADACHES. THE CONTACT UNDERWENT MEDICAL TESTS AT CARY MEDICAL GROUP (530 NEW WAVERLY PL #200, CARY, NC 27518, (919) 859-5955) FOR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TESTS SHOWED ELEVATED LEVELS OF CARBON MONOXIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED OR INSPECTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE WITH AN INDEPENDENT FACILITY TO PERFORM A CARBON MONOXIDE TEST ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,200.

THE DEALER CHECKED THE MOULDING, ADHESIVE GRILL, INLET VALVE, ASSEMBLY AUTO DRAIN, UNDER COAT, AND PERFORMED TSB 121204 WHERE THEY REPLACED THE CO-SEAMS AND INSTALLED BOTH NEW VENTS. THE CONTACT ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOWS TO RELEASE THE ODOR FROM THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. FREEDOM FORD OF EVENSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. IN DECEMBER 2014, SEVERAL PATROL OFFICERS FROM THE YARMOUTH POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTED THE ODOR OF EXHAUST FUMES IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF A 2013 FORD EXPLORER INTERCEPTOR SUV THEY HAD BEEN OPERATING. WHILE SITTING STATIONARY WITH THE ENGINE IDLING, THE OFFICERS DETECTED THE ODOR OF EXHAUST LEAKING INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF THIS VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION BY OUR PUBLIC WORKS MECHANIC, MULTIPLE CRACKS WERE DISCOVERED IN THE WELDS CONNECTING THE EXHAUST PIPES TO THE RESONATOR. THESE CRACKS WERE ALLOWING EXHAUST FUMES TO LEAK DIRECTLY INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING STATIONARY. FOR SAFETY REASONS, THE VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM THE FLEET UNTIL THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT EXHAUST ELIMINATED THE EXHAUST LEAKAGE PROBLEM. WHEN ACCELERATING A STONG EXHAUST SMELL IS PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE CABIN. THIS IS MOST PRONOUNCED DURING A LONG ACCELERATION I.E. WHEN ENTERING A HIGHWAY. FOLLOWING A PERIOD OF ACCELERATION WE NEED TO OPEN THE WINDOWS TO PURGE THE EXHAUST FROM THE CABIN. THIS IS REGARDLESS OF THE HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM BEING ON OR OFF, OR IF THE RECIRCULATION FEATURE IS ENABLED. THE DEALERSHIP IMPLEMENTED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS CONDITION AND IT HAD NO IMPROVEMENT. *JS
I AM REPORTING AN EMISSION ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE PREVIOUS ONE I HAD WITH SAME ISSUE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO MAKE THIS NOT HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. I AM BREATHING EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CABIN AT HARD ACCELERATION THROUGH THE AC SYSTEM ALL THE TIME EVEN AFTER THEY SO CALLED FIXED THIS VEHICLE. EVEN WITH MODERATE ACCELERATION PASSING SOMEONE. I AM GOING THROUGH THE LEMON LAW AT THIS TIME. THE SMELL IS SO BAD IT IS GIVING ME HEADACHES ALL DAY AND NIGHT AND EFFECTING MY HEALTH.
