Engine has antifreeze leak. (white smoke and bad smell noticed in [XXX] On August 9th, Ford Motor stated that I need a new engine due to antifreeze leak. $9,999.00 is what they quoted me for a new engine. The car has sat for months since August. I do not have $9,999.00 for a new engine. Per other recall information on the same type of vehicle and engine. The engine could catch on fire. Yes, diagnosed and confirmed by Ford Motor Auto Ranch, Ontario Oregon on 8/9/2024. No, the vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance. No, there has not been any warning lamps or messages. Any and all help is very welcome. I do not have the money for a new engine and have to rend a car for my medical appointments. I now get a ride to my job daily. Please help me, thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION...

The engine failed on due to coolant intrusion causing misfires on cylinder 3.
#11635746 |
I saw that there is a current recall dealing with the cooling system on the Escape. My car has been over heating saying engine fault for the past two months. There now appears to be coolant in the engine.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated. The failure persisted with the message that the engine was overheating before the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic on two separate occasions where the spark plugs and other engine repairs were performed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure, and the contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

Rapidly losing coolant without being able to find any leaks with the assumption it’s going into my engine. This also explains why my engine has been acting a bit funny.

Slow coolant leak that can’t be located
#11623573 |
My engine is leaking coolant and requiring me to have to constantly add it! Now coolant is leaking while I am driving it causing my car to overheat.
#11623622 |
There is a engine coolant leak into the cylinder 2 due to a faulty casing from the manufacturer (Ford). It is a known issue across several models (Escape, Edge) and model years. A mechanic has confirmed the engine block needs to be replaced as the issue will continue to get worse and eventually the engine will die due to the faulty casing which allows coolant to seep into the cylinder. Ford is at fault for this and countless claims have been filed online and there should be a recall to cover the repairs.
#11622919 |
The Ecoboost engine in this year/model has a known defect with coolant intrusion into the #3 cylinder. At 83,000 miles the car reported cylinder 3 misfires and the mechanic said coolant was leaking from the head gasket....a known issue with these engines. He warned of catastrophic failure and the potential of an engine fire. He said Ford knows of this issue and recalled several models. My car has the engine issue that Ford knows about and needs to correct before an accident happens. In addition, the coolant does not seem to circulate correctly and when it does, it burns in the cylinder. The has overheated 3 times in the past month.
#11621697 | Fire
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked on the driveway during nighttime, the contact's wife noticed a light underneath the front end of the vehicle. The contact discovered that the vehicle had caught on fire. The contact extinguished the fire using a water hose avoiding opening the hood to not expose the fire to oxygen. The contact's wife then also assisted in extinguishing the fire by using a fire extinguisher as the husband opened the hood and then used the water hose as well. The contact stated that the vehicle had been driven and then parked before the fire was experienced. The origin of the fire was unknown however the contact discovered that the valve cover was charred and melted. No fire report or police report was filed. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle...

Coolant leak occurred out of no where. Roughly 90,000 miles on my car, it's been well taken care of. With no warning, the engine overheated in a drive through. Checked the coolant, it was low and bubbling. Check engine light went on. Difficult to find where the leak is coming from, not sure if it is the water pump, hoses, coolant reservoir or radiator. I refilled the coolant and lost it all in a matter of 2 days. Looked it up and this is very common in Ford Escapes, they need to offer assistance on the matter.

The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed. The contact was informed that the cylinder head was cracked, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 163,000.

Coolant fluid is leaking into engine cylinder #3. Yes, the vehicle would be available for inspection upon request. The coolant leak can cause the car can overheat, leading to a loss of power, poor performance, and potential engine damage An engine coolant system pressurized diagnostic test was performed by Stuckey Ford in Bellefonte, PA. I will have the report from this test when I pick up the car from the shop. Previous owner stated that one of the spark plugs needed to be changed, but did not disclose engine coolant leak. After purchasing, an indicator light came on stating that the coolant level was low. We have been adding coolant as needed.

Hello, I'm writing to see if the Ecoboost lawsuits also include 2014 Ford Escapes? Mine cut off on me while on the highway Saturday (XXX). The Engine failed while driving, no light or warning. This is even after me dishing out a little over $8k in 2021 when I purchased it used from Bommarito Ford in St. Louis. I had transmission/engine issues from the start. When the car stopped on me a few folks that work on cars pulled over to see if they could assist. They all said the same thing... that the engine was done... oil was everywhere. They kept asking if it overheated but my gage always stayed between C and H. No lights or warnings ever. It was horrifying to be going about 60 mph to hear something break and lose power without warning. I'm grateful no accident was caused while I merged over to the...

My 2014 Ford Escape had run into coolant fluid issues such as leaking fluid and a cylinder misfire. Took it to a Ford dealership where they stated the only option for a fix was a replacement of the long block assembly. My car has just about 72,000 miles on it and it already needs an engine replacement due to coolant intrusion and the Ford dealership cited codes P0303, P0316, and P1299. These are codes that are referenced to Ford's recall of engines on Ford Escapes in the years 2017-2019, and it states it applies to Ford Escapes built from late 2015 to 2019. The 2014 Ford Escape experienced an unfixable engine failure that requires the customer to pay for replacement when Ford should be the one paying for damages. It is clear that their coolant intrusion failure affected more years of production that NHTSA has previously found. There is no...

The transmission on my 2014 Ford Escape went totally bad at 91,000 miles. I had to replace the transmission at a cost of $6,780. I have read that this has happened to many 2014 Ford Escapes with low mileage. There should be a recall on this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine misfired, with the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the engine overheated. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and allowed for the engine to cool down. The vehicle was later started and taken to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 71,669.

104,340 miles and diagnosed with coolant consumption and coolant intrusion into cylinder #2 causing engine misfire. known defect of the 1.6L EcoBoost engine. Needs engine replacement.
#11607756 |
While driving at highway speeds, the engine began to miss resulting in a sudden loss of power that forced me to pull over. I had the vehicle towed to a garage where they found the code for a misfire in cylinder 4. When they looked in cylinder 4, they found coolant intrusion and a crack in the cylinder. I discovered this is a common experience with this engine in Escapes and other vehicles. The vehicle only had around 89,000 miles at the time of the incident.

Engine failure due to coolant intrusion
#11606100 |
We had our vehicle engine light come on, vehicle would shake and misfire, we had the spark plugs replaced. No sooner the vehicle light came on again, vehicle still shake and misfire and had it looked at with Ford service Ford service replaced the power packs. No sooner once again, the engine light came on, this time the vehicle over heated. The vehicle would shake and misfire. Took it in again to Ford service, they concluded that it was the throttle body they replaced and fixed. No sooner once again, the vehicle still shooked, but this time the vehicle started to lose power and would not go while driving on the highway, it over heated, misfired. Returned once again to Ford service whom finally revealed the truth and said these vehicles are notorious for a new engine. We were told that the design of the engine revealed that coolant was...

Car overheated due to intrusion of coolant into head gasket. Repair shop identified issue and warned it's a safety risk for fire when overheating. Only symptom before overheating was white smoke from exhaust on startup. Shop said maintenance looked fine, wasn't low on oil and coolant had just been checked less than 6 months earlier at a regular oil change. Mentioned that they have seen a ton of these from the 2.0L EcoBoost engines and it's a known risk in the industry.

The car had a coolant leak which caused the car to overheat. The car is now leaking oil which has lead to oil leaking into the fuel.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 30-35 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to pull over to the side of the roadway. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the canister purge valve had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer related the failure to an unknown recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact’s mother owns a 2014 Ford Escape. While the contact's mother was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant leak and engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

The car was smoking whitish gray smoke. I had something repaired. About 3 week later the smoke returned. Took to dealership told it needed an engine. Given a price of $14,000. With that info my car has been parked. I never received info that ford had a class action about engines until a month ago. Please advise.

The low coolant level came on the car. We were told that they sensor needed to be replaced. We paid $1500 to replace that. The low coolant level light has back on 5 times, then the check engine light comes on and the car shuts off. It has left me, and my daughter stranded on the side of the road and in the middle of the highway. We were told they are not sure what else to do, here is a bottle of coolant from the dealership and keep bringing it back in. Next issues are it won't go over 20 MPG, my daughter was crossing a major highway, she lost power and the car started to shake. We are now told that it is the transmission. There was a recall replaced on it back in 2023. Not happy at all with ford and very unsafe.

The prior reported issue of coolant intrusion of the Ford Ecoboost into the engine. They only recalled a select number and it seems from both own experience and reviews online that this is happening to a wide variety of years and people even though they "fixed" the issue. Had I not been diligent regarding my car this could have ended poorly and in this economy it's ridiculous to not have a reliable and SAFE vehicle
#11601036 |
My car has a bad failure of the head gasket. Coolant leaking into cylinder 3 and 2 and using up my coolant. This has been ongoing despite me having had the recalls done to it for the coolant system. This is a pervasive, prevalent and common issue with these Ecoboost engines. I have spoken with many people who have this same issue. It happens subtly and then gets much worse. Causing overheating and undue wear on the cylinder walls. For the first year of the problem beginning, there were no check engine lights associated with it. But it recently has started throwing cylinder 3 misfire codes as a result of this problem. This has been checked by a mechanic and the dealer refuses to repair or replace the head gasket or engine due to no recall for the head gasket being made, however there is at least one or two...

The problem first arose as the car started going through engine coolant very quickly. Usually the warning would come up saying the engine coolant was low. I would refill, but the car would need more within a day or two. So, I scheduled an appointment to get it checked. In the meantime, I would refill every time the warning came on. Soon after, as we were waiting for the appointment, and as my wife, infant son, and I were driving (with no warning of low coolant), the engine overheated and the car started shaking and would not respond (with a warning that said to pull over safely). Thankfully, we were on side streets in a neighborhood. But with no warning of low coolant beforehand, this is absolutely a safety issue.

Coolant leak into engine. Engine replacement needed
#11594427 |
Check engine light in 2023 for P1299, Cylinder head overtemperature protection code. Coolant was heavily leaking, and engine overheated while in use on the interstate highway. I had a red error message telling me to immediately pull over and shut the vehicle off, which I did. I called for roadside service and had my coolant topped in a safe location. Car was towed to the dealership where a leak was found as well as a crack in the degass bottle engine mount, which sprayed coolant directly onto the engine. The degass bottle and mount were replaced, and the issue was fixed. Now, in 2024, I pulled a P2681 engine light error for an issue with the coolant bypass valve. I drove the car into the same dealership, where they're currently assessing it for issues. Mentioned that the coolant bypass solenoid is out of spec for a resistance issue and needs...

Unknown. Something at the backside of the motor caught on fire. The car overheated and would not drive. Pulled over, cooled off, added coolant, drove home. Car won't go over 40, shakes, and makes noises. Took it to automotive place. They took the manifold(?) and stopped! Called and told us there had been a fire in the motor, we need to call our insurance company and take it to a Ford dealership. Warranty and insurance company are both fighting with us. Neither one wants to pay!!! This is total BS!!!! No recalls?! Google this cars problems and their #1 problem is they catch on fire!!! WHY IS THERE NO RECALLS?!?!? Does someone have to die to get a recall?

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine overheated. In addition, the contact stated that at times the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed coolant valve. The contact was informed that the coolant valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that while the independent mechanic was driving at an undisclosed speed and test-driving the vehicle, the independent was flagged down by a nearby Police Officer. The independent was advised to pull the vehicle off to the shoulder of the road. The independent mechanic was advised that flames were exiting the rear undercarriage and the front undercarriage of the vehicle. The independent mechanic drove the vehicle to the shoulder of the road and exited the vehicle. The Police officer extinguished the fire. The local...

Has to replace the Fan Assembly Coolant sensor three years in a row beginning in 2022, 2023, and 2024. 2023 January, also has the Right Side CV Axcle replaced because a/c coolant was leaking. This leaking went in to the transmission and the transmission also had to be rebuild. Then in 2024 of May the transmission fault service light came on again after being rebuild in January 2023. Took it back to AAMCO and was provided the following codes as errors: P0087- Fuel/Rail system pressure; P0217 engine coolant over temperature; P0219 Engine over speed condition, P0732 gear 2 incorrect ratio, P0733 gear 3, 4, 4 all incorrect ratio. They stated my transmission needed to be rebuilt again and was out of warranty.

the instrument panel cluster gets inoperative including a blank multiple functional display (MFD), and non-functional warning chimes, messages and warning lights. The engine cylinder head overheats crack and leak oil. Other 2014 Ford escapes have had recalls for the same issues but they are saying mine isn't affected. Obviously it is.

While driving this vehicle in traffic, the engine began to fail causing the car to abruptly stall. During this incident, the engine light and low coolant indicator illuminated. Vehicles behind my car nearly slammed into the rear of my vehicle due to this engine failure. Upon inspection, two independent certified service centers confirmed engine coolant had been ingested into the cylinder block causing this engine to fail. Upon full investigation, numerous Ford Ecoboost engines have a manufactures defect on top of the cylinder head that causes this problem. This particular engine only has 52,000 original miles.

I have maintained my vehicle as I always have with previous autos in the past. In 11/22 I had to replace the transmission, which left me 6k+ in debt. My auto is now seemingly going into limp mode for no reason whatsoever and just shutting off while driving. This almost caused an accident, there was NO forewarning of any mechanical issues prior to it doing this. The check engine light came on, rpm’s declined, tried to move to side of the road by pressing gas pedal with no acceleration. Shut car off, called a tow truck mechanic could not diagnose any problem. Since this first incident it has happened almost everytime I’ve driven it. This last time left me and my dog on side of road, unable to move to safe place due to no acceleration with gas pedal. My car is now leaking oil once parked, there’s oil all...

My vehicle has a severe oil leak, including leaks at the T valve, vacuum pumps, and transmission fluid. My local garage said this should be covered under the Ford Escape Oil Leak recall, but Ford said it is not. The Ford dealership in Bridgeport, CT, said they were unaware of any oil leak issues with the 2014 Escape, which was not part of the recall. They asked for $3000.00 to cover repairs and said they could not guarantee that the issue would be corrected entirely. My local garage said the vehicle should not be driven as the issue can cause the car to catch fire. I have seen many recalls on the Ford Escape for the problem below. Ford Escape Recall: Certain vehicles with 1.5L engines may have vulnerable engine oil separator housing that can crack and allow oil to leak. A fire can occur if fuel leaks onto an...

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 35-45 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted after several attempts. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer where it was diagnosed that the PCM, electrical system, fuel system and power train had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 22V413000 (Power Train), 14V495000 (Electrical System), and 14V525000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle was intermittently consuming twice the amount of fuel while driving at various speeds. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact documented that a certain routine trip with the vehicle showed that a 25-mile trip was consuming 55 miles worth of gasoline. The dealer was notified of the failure but could not duplicate or diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

The vehicle engine block has a weak spot in which it has allowed coolant to leak into the number 3 cylinder and thus ruining the engine as my local ford dealer (Greiner Ford. Casper, Wyoming) confirmed. Apparently it's a known issue with ford and they won't do anything to fix it. A check engine light came on and the car started having a bunch of hesitation which led me to the dealership. The issue runs the risk of fire which could cause bodily injury to me and also causes me to be without a vehicle even though I'm currently making payments on it.
