TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONSUMED AT LEAST FOUR QUARTS OF OIL PER MONTH. THE OIL PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO HAVE AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,413.
BURNING 1.5-2 QUARTS OF ENGINE OIL PER WEEK, THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS. OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS DONE ON THE VEHICLE AND IT FAILED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS FAILED TO FIXED THE ISSUE.
OIL BURNING RECALL. MY CAR RAV4 BURNS OIL AT LEAST ONE QUART PER 1200 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPLACE ANY PART DUE TO THE 1200 MILES TEST DRIVING. TOYOTA SENT ME AN ENHANCEMENT WARRANTY NOTICE ABOUT THE PROBLEM OF OIL BURNING. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE TO ME. WE PAID SO MUCH YET WHAT WE GET IS A DEFECT ENGINE IN A NEW RAV4. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND TOYOTA IS RESPONSIBLE TO FIX THE RINGS AND OTHER PARTS THAT ARE REQUIRED TO REPLACE IN ORDER TO STOP THE PROBLEM.
2007 RAV4 USES AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED WITH APPROXIMATELY 146,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 4,000 AND I HAVE HAD TO ADD 2 QUARTS OF OIL TO THE ENGINE. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME SITUATION AND TOYOTA IS DOING NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR SUDDENLY LOSES ALL ELECTRICITY, ALL THE LIGHTS, EVERY LIGHT INDICATOR, THE RADIO ARE OFF. THE ENGINE STOPS RUNNING AND THE CAR STOPS IMMEDIATELY. THIS NORMALLY HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS BUT ALSO HAPPENED ONCE WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED AND THE KEY WAS OUT. AFTER I ENTERED AND TURNED THE KEY THE CAR WOULDN'T START AND THERE WAS NO ELECTRICITY IN THE CAR. NO LIGHTS, NO INDICATORS, ETC WERE ON. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC TO TAKE A LOOK BUT HE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. ALSO TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THE TECHNICIAN INSPECTED IT AND RAN A DIAGNOSTICS TEST BUT COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM EITHER.
HELLO, MY WIFE OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 WITH 108,000 MILES ON IT. IT RECEIVED AN OIL CHANGE AT 103K MILES, AND I JUST BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A SUSPICIOUS (AND LOUD) TOP END NOISE, AND THE ENGINE APPEARED TO BE EMPTY OF OIL WHEN THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED IT. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS, OTHER THAN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AT PRECISELY THE RIGHT TIME TO INDICATE THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. ALSO NO PUDDLES OF OIL IN THE DRIVEWAY. THIS APPEARS TO MAKE ME (AT LEAST POTENTIALLY) AN INTERESTED PARTY IN THE TOYOTA OIL CONSUMPTION DEFECT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT , APRIL LAX, ET AL. V. TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION, ET AL., CASE NO. 14-CV-01490, IN THE U.S. DISTRICT COURT FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN RECOMMEND A COURSE OF ACTION FOR ME AT THIS TIME.

REPLACED ENGINE WITH A REBUILT. ONLY HAD 136,000 MILES ON RAV4. THE RAV4 HAD REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. NOW I AM SEEING ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE THAT TOYOTA KNEW ABOUT ENGINES PROBLEMS. I PURCHASED A USED 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 IN LATE FEBRUARY 2015. ACCORDING TO MY TRUSTED AND LOYAL CAR REPAIRMAN, THE CAR IS A LEMON. IN THE SHORT TIME I HAVE OWNED IT, I HAVE ACCRUED WELL OVER $6000.00 IN REPAIRS WHICH DID NOT REFURBISH THE VEHICLE AND NOW THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEABLE AS THE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONED. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT IS REFUSING TO HELP ME SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITHOUT A WARRANTY. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH THE PISTONS AND THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO CHECK THE OIL EVERY WEEK TO MAKE SURE IT WAS TOPPED OFF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,600.
CERTAIN CARS FROM TOYOTA HAVE A KNOW EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. MY CAR IS ONE OF THEM. MY CAR, WHILE OLDER, HAS LESS THAN 56K MILES ON IT. LAST YEAR, THE MILEAGE DROPPED PRECIPITOUSLY-- BY 10 MPG, IN FACT. SINCE THEN, MY LOW OIL LIGHT INDICATOR CAME ON IN LESS THAN 3,000 MILES. TOYOTA WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE REDEFINED WHAT IT MEANS TO BURN EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL-- 1 QUART EVERY 1200 MILES ISN'T A PROBLEM ACCORDING TO THEM. THOUSANDS OF TOYOTA OWNERS NOW FIND THEMSELVES WITH CARS THAT BURN OIL, HAVE REDUCED MPG, AND NO RECOURSE WITH TOYOTA. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. IT HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASE NEW. I NOTICED THAT I HAD TO GET MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES AND COULD NOT MAKE IT TO 5000 MILES AS RECOMMENDED BY MY MECHANIC FOR OIL CHANGES. THIS HAS GOTTEN WORSE AS MY CAR HAS AGED. I NOW RUN OUT OF OIL (OIL INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON AND NOT A DROP ON THE DIPSTICK) EVERY 1200-1300 MILES. I HAVE TO CARRY QUARTS OF OIL IN MY CAR ALL THE TIME TO BE SURE I DON'T GET STUCK WITH A SEIZED ENGINE AND I NEED TO TOP OFF MY OIL AT LEAST TWICE IN BETWEEN 3000 MILE OIL CHANGES. THE CAR FAILED TO START, THE BATTERY WAS EXTREMELY HOT AND HAD NOT WATER IN IT. CHANGED THE BATTERY, THE CAR STARTED PROPERLY; HOWEVER, ONCE SET TO DRIVE IT HESITATED A BIT, AS IF IT WERE CHOCKING FOR LACK OF GAS BUT IT HAD GAS. DROVE ON AND AT ABOUT SPEED OF 40 MPH STEERING BECAME HARD TO HANDLE, AC AND ENGINE CUT OFF. RESTARTED IT DROVE BACK HOME... JUST MADE THE LAST PAYMENT ON THE CAR, CAR WAS REGULARLY SERVICED AT THE DEALER.
ENGINE HESITATES/STUMBLES AND RPM NEEDLE FLUCTUATES AT SPEEDS UNDER 60MPH
I HAVE BEEN HAVING REGULAR OIL CHANGES AT MY LOCAL AAA SHOP AS SCHEDULED FOR MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. WHEN MY MAINTENANCE LIGHT CAME ON I TOOK IT IN TO AAA WITHIN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. I WAS TOLD IT HAD ONLY BEEN 3000 MILES SINCE MY LAST OIL CHANGE, BUT THAT THERE WAS ONLY 1 QT. OF OIL LEFT IN THE CAR. THERE WERE NO LEAKS DETECTED AND THEY SAID THE CAR WAS NOT SMOKING TO INDICATE IT WAS BURNING OIL. TWO MOS. LATER I TOOK THE CAR TO MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR AN INSPECTION STICKER. I TOLD THEM THE CAR WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND TO CHECK IT OUT. THEY REPLACED SPARK PLUGS AND VALVE COVER GASKET. SHORTLY THEREAFTER I RECEIVED NOTICE FROM TOYOTA ABOUT EXCESSIVE OIL USE FOR MY MODEL. I TOOK IT IN FOR THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. DURING THE 1000 MI TEST IT BURNED ANOTHER...
MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4 IS EXPERIENCING EXCESSIVE OIL USAGE WHICH TOYOTA KNOWS IS A PROBLEM WITH VEHICLES THAT HAS A 2AZ ENGINE. IT IS BELIEVED THAT IF THE ENGINE SIEZES DUE TO THIS EXCESSIVE OIL USAGE FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS IN MOTION, THE BRAKES AND STEERING FAILURE COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL AND RESULT IN A CRASH. AS SUCH, I BELIEVE TOYOTA SHOULD BE FORCED TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY.
MY CAR HAS HAD EVERY OIL CHANGE AND CHECK UP AS PRESCRIBED. I WAS ABOUT 500 MILES AWAY FROM NEXT REQUIRED OIL CHANGE. I NOTICED WHEN I STEPPED ON BRAKE THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED INTO GAS STATION AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE CAR. THEY ADDED 3 QUARTS OF OIL. I CALLED TOYOTA AND BROUGHT CAR IN. THEY ADDED 4/5 QUARTS OF OIL, AND TAPPED UP EVERYTHING INCLUDING DIP STICK SO I COULD NOT CHECK THE OIL. TOLD ME I HAD TO DRIVE 1,100 TO 1,300 MILES AND THEN COME BACK. I WAS QUITE UPSET, BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO KNOW IF OIL WAS LEAKING AGAIN, SINCE THEY TAPED THE DIP STICK. CALLED CORPORATE WAS TOLD TO TAKE TAPE OFF DIP STICK. HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE 1,100 MILES BUT OIL IS A LITTLE BELOW THE 2 DOTS. I CALLED TOYOTA, TOLD THEM I HAD TO...

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT IT HAD OIL CONSUMPTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I NOTICED MY OIL LIGHT COMING ON, I PULLED OVER TO CHECK KNOWING I JUST RECENTLY HAD THE OIL CHANGE ABOUT A MONTH AGO BUT I DO DRIVE ALOT, WHEN I CHECKED MY DIPSTICK I FOUND NO OIL ON IT. WHEN THE OIL WAS CHANGED, OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEARS. THEIR IS VERY HEAVY BLOW-BY WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND THE OIL FILLER CAP IS REMOVED. COUPLE OF MECHANICS HAVE SAID, THIS IS INCORRECT. *TR
V6 ENGINE MAKES A RATTLE NOISE AT STARTUP. IT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED BY THE DEALER AS THE VVT CAMSHAFT GEAR. TOYOTA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (T-SB-0094-09) IDENTIFYING THE CAUSE AS THE INTAKE OR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT VVT ASSEMBLY. HOWEVER THE LEXUS DIVISION OF TOYOTA HAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM ON IS AND GS MODELS (REFERENCE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V395000). THE CONSEQUENCE IS THAT THE LOOSE BOLTS COULD CAUSE THE VVT GEAR HOUSING AND SPROCKET TO SEPARATE AND RESULT IN THE ENGINE STOPPING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. IF THIS IS DANGEROUS ENOUGH TO CAUSE A CRASH FOR A LEXUS CUSTOMER, THEN WHY ISN'T THIS DANGEROUS ENOUGH TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR A TOYOTA CUSTOMER. THESE ARE THE SAME MOTORS AND THE CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH. *TR

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION: CHECKING THE OIL ON THIS 4 CYLINDER ENGINE SHOWED THAT IT WAS DOWN 1 1/2 QUARTS IN ONLY 1,500 MILES. THE LOCAL DEALER FOUND NO OIL LEAKS. *TR
MY VEHICLE HAS AN OIL CONSUMPTION RECALL. THE VEHICLE BURNS OIL THUS A RECALL TO CONDUCT TESTING. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE TO TEST THE OIL CONSUMPTION. HOWEVER, THEY SCREWED THE TEST RESULTS BY OVERFILLING THE OIL TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THERE WAS NO OIL BURNING ONCE THE TEST WAS COMPLETED. THEY WANTED ME TO DRIVE BETWEEN 1200-1400 MILES THEN LOOK AT THE DIP STICK. BUT THEY OVERFILLED THE OIL ON PURPOSE TO EFFECT THE RESULTS. *TR

WAS EXPERIENCING AND INTERMITTENT CHECK OIL LIGHT SO I CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THE DAY BEFORE THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT AND DRIVING ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY, MY ENGINE SLOWED WAY DOWN AND LOST ALMOST ALL POWER. THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A VERY LOUD NOISE AND WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 30 MPH. THE NEXT DAY THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP CALLS AND INFORMS ME THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. I WENT WITH A JASPER REBUILT ENGINE WHICH STILL COST ME $6,100 INSTALLED. *TR
OIL CHANGED AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AT 83036 MILES. AT 87750 MILES, OIL LIGHT STARTED TO FLICKER AND ENGINE STARTED SMOKING DUE TO LOW OIL SOON AFTER. CUSTOMER MUST PAY FOR OIL CHANGE IN ORDER TO BEGIN PROCESS, REGARDLESS OF PAST EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT CLAIMS OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. I'VE HAD MY BRAKES REPAIRED, SEVERAL RECALLS TENDED TO, AND MANY OIL CHANGES PERFORMED. THERE WAS ONE OCCASION WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A CHAIN AUTO SERVICE STORE TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE PERFORMED. IT WAS AT THIS CHAIN THAT I WAS INFORMED THAT THE OIL LEVEL IN MY CAR WAS DANGEROUSLY LOW. I CALLED THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT I USUALLY BRING MY CAR TO FOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEEDED TO PERFORM AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST ON MY CAR. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS SO THAT THEY COULD PERFORM THE TEST. ON THE FINAL TEST DAY I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS INDEED LOSING ABNORMALLY EXCESSIVE...

THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING; HOWEVER, WHEN RESEARCHED ONLINE THERE IS A PENDING CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST TOYOTA AND THERE WAS ALSO A SERVICE BULLETIN IN 2011 ADVISING THE DEALERSHIPS TO REMEDY PROBLEM. THE EXTERNAL OIL PRESSURE LINE TO THE REAR CYLINDER HEAD BUSTED WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO COMPLETELY DUMP ALL 6 QUARTS OF MOTOR OIL ONTO THE HIGHWAY. FORTUNATE FOR ME I WAS ONLY 0.8 MILES FROM AN EXIT WITH A SAFE PARKING LOT. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE OIL FROM MY VEHICLE CAUSED ANY WRECKS ON THE INTERSTATE, HOWEVER THE POTENTIAL FOR A MOTORCYCLE WRECK OR ANY VEHICLE THAT HAD TO MAKE A SUDDEN SLOW DOWN OR QUICK MANEUVER WOULD BE AT A HIGH RISK OF AN ACCIDENT.
