POWER STEERING IN 2007 SATURN ION2 CUTS OUT RANDOMLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. TURNING THE ENGINE OFF, AND RESTARTING RESETS THE ISSUE UNTIL IT CUTS OUT AGAIN. SOMETIMES IT GOES WEEKS WITH OUT ISSUE AND OTHER DAYS IT IS A REPEATED AND CONTINUAL PROBLEM. *TR
POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING, MAKING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, PARTICULARLY AT SPEEDS BELOW 30MPH. THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR BUT CLAIMED THAT, AT 119,877 MILES, THE VEHICLE DID NOT QUALIFY FOR A FREE REPLACEMENT FROM GM. *TR
MY 2007 SATURN ION LOST POWER STEERING ABILITY FOR NO SPECIFIC REASON. THE WARNING SCREEN WOULD FLASH AND BEEP AND THEN IT WOULD STOP WORKING. IT CONTINUED TO DO IT THROUGHOUT THE DAY AT RANDOM TIMES. EVERY TIME I WOULD TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART IT THE POWER STEERING WOULD WORK AGAIN AND THEN RANDOMLY STOP WORKING USUALLY AS I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. *TR
THE POWER STEERING FAILS AND THE VEHICLE BECOMES HEAVY TO STEER, PARTICULARLY AT SLOW SPEEDS. THE FAILURE IS NOW OCCURRING EVERY FEW SECONDS WHICH SOMETIMES STOPS FOR A FEW HOURS. VEHICLE IS A 2007 SATURN ION WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. THIS IS THE SAME FAILURE TYPE AS EXPERIENCED ON CHEVY COBALT AND PONTIAC G5. *TR
THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2007 SATURN ION FROZE WHILE DRIVING IN LIGHT TRAFFIC. I STRONG-ARMED THE WHEEL TO MOVE IT FROM THE TRAFFIC LANE. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN. THE WARNING LIGHT SHUT OFF AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. THIS WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT. I LOOKED UP POWER STEERING IN THE OWNER MANUAL AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED. (THE VEHICLE HAS 24, 281 MILES ON IT I PURCHASED IT NEW FROM A DEALERSHIP IN OCTOBER 2007.) *TR

POWER STEERING FAILURE - MY BEST DESCRIPTION - ELECTRIC POWER STEERING CLICKS AS THOUGH A RELAY IS PREVENTING AN OVER VOLT OR POWER SURGE, AND THEN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING HAS FAILED MAKING STEERING MORE DIFFICULT AT ALL SPEEDS, SPECIALLY SLOW SPEEDS - DIAL ON DASH SAYS "PWR STR" STATED HAPPENING ON 1/7/2011 AND NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME I START THE CAR ABOUT 30 SECONDS AFTER RUNNING. *LN
WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY A PWR STEERING WARNING FLASHED AND SUDDENLY I WAS WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND HAD TO STEER MANUALLY WITHOUT POWER ASSIST. I TURNED OFF MY 2007 SATURN ION AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. FORTUNATELY I AM STRONG AND WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR SAFELY OFF THE HIGHWAY IN ORDER TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN. STEERING THE VEHICLE TOOK CONSIDERABLE STRENGTH. BOTH TIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENED THERE WAS NO WARNING. I COULD ONLY IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO SOMEONE WHO IS NOT VERY STRONG. I COULD SEE WHERE A PERSON COULD COMPLETELY LOSE CONTROL OF THEIR VEHICLE. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER...
THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT RANDOMLY ON MY 2007 SATURN ION ALMOST CAUSING 2 SEVERE ACCIDENTS. ONCE THE CAR IS RESTARTED POWER STEERING IS FINE AND WHO KNOWS WHEN IT JUST GOES OUT CAUSING STEERING TO BE QUITE DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY DEPENDING ON WHO IS DRIVING THE CAR AND WHEN IT GOES OUT!!! THE STEERING IS VERY DIFFICULT (TWO HANDS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY) FOR A STRONG DRIVER DURING SLOW SHARP TURNS. A POTENTIAL COLLISION IS HIGHLY LIKELY. OTHER COMPLAINTS ARE ON THE WEB WITH MANY PEOPLE AVOIDING DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ALL DUE TO THE INABILITY TO PREDICT OCCURRENCES AND THE IMMEDIATE EFFECT THE LOSS OF POWER HAS. HOW CAN TWO MODELS WITH THE SAME EQUIPMENT BE RECALLED (COBALT AND G5) AND NOT THE SATURN ION?

POWER SEERING INDICATOR CAME ON IN THE DISPLAY (NOT THE LOW FLUID WARNING LIGHT) AND POWER STEERING WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. AFTER TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING FUNCTIONALITY RETURNS FOR A VARIABLE LENGTH OF TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES NOW WITH THE TIME BETWEEN INCIDENTS RANGING FROM 5 MINUTES TO SEVERAL HOURS. THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH SPEEDS RANGING FROM 25 TO 75 MPH.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND PARKED. THE NEXT TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE POWER STEERING FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. I PURCHASED A 2007 SATURN ION IN AUGUST 2007. APPROX 1-2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT ALMOST RESULTING IN A CRASH WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SATURN DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT, AND THEY PROMPTLY FIXED THE PROBLEM; SO I THOUGHT. NOV 28, 2010 I WAS DRIVING ON THE EISENHOWER EXPRESSWAY AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. BECAUSE IT WAS EARLY SUNDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING THERE WASN'T MUCH TRAFFIC. BUT THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE TURNED TRAGIC. I REQUEST THAT INVESTIGATION BE MADE INTO THE 2007 SATURN ION. EVEN THOUGH GM CLOSED THIS PRODUCT LINE (WISH I WOULD'VE KNEW THEIR PLAN BEFORE MY PURCHASE), I WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THIS SINGLE INCIDENT, AS THERE COULD BE MANY OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME EXPERIENCE. NOT TO MENTION THE POTENTIAL LEGAL RAMIFICATIONS IF IT IS FOUND THAT THE IONS ARE DEFECTIVE. IF...
THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION WHILE TRYING TO TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF. FINALLY THE KEY IS STUCK IN THE ON POSITION AND THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE TURNED OFF. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE KEY COMES OUT WHILE THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING AND IN THE ON POSITION AND THE CAR IS NOT IN PARK. AFTER SEVERAL REPAIRS, THE IGNITION HOUSING CONTINUES TO FAIL. THE CAR CAN EASILY ROLL OFF AS THE KEY COMES OUT AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN PARK, THE KEY EVEN COMES OUT WHILE THE CAR IS DRIVING OR IN DRIVE. THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT THE CAR OFF IS TO MANUALLY REMOVE THE WIRE HARNESS FROM THE BATTERY LOCATED UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN. *TR

THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. UPON RESTART, THE POWER STEERING WAS FUNCTIONAL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN EXAMINED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND WAS BECOMING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 115,000.

HAVE SEEN ONLINE OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH SAME PROBLEM AND CONSIDERING CAR ONLY 3YRS OLD AND ONLY 47,000 MILES AND THAT IT GOES AWAY WHEN CAR TURNED OFF AND BACK ON THAT IT MIGHT BE SOME KIND OF COMPUTER ERROR OR SOMETHING. EVERY DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN IT DOES GO OFF AND DEALERSHIP WANTS $125 FOR DIAGNOSTIC & UP TO $600 TO CORRECT ERROR. *TR
MY 2007 SATURN ION'S POWER STEERING HAS BEGUN TO SHUT ITSELF OFF AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING AND IT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS SINCE THE FEW TIMES IT HAS I HAVE EITHER BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE OR DRIVING ON WINDING ROADS WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO EASILY TURN. I HAVE NOT REPLACED NOTHING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM YET. I WAS HOPING TO FIND A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS THAT MANY SATURN ION'S HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH WHEEL LOCKING AND TROUBLE TURNING. I ALSO WAS TOLD BY FIRESTONE THAT I NEED TO HAVE MY STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACED. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE IT IS MANUFACTURER'S FAULT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS ON A 2007 SATURN ION. THE MECHANIC ALSO TOLD ME SEVERAL CARS HAVE COME IN WITH SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED SATURN AND CHEVROLET DEALERS TO ASK ABOUT RECALLS AND WAS INFORMED THAT OTHER MODELS FOR SATURN HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR POWER STEERING PROBLEMS BUT NOT THE ION AND IT IS SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THERE WAS A POWER STEERING LIGHT THAT ILLUMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. SHE NOTICED THAT IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE AS A RESULT. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT. WHEN SHE RESTARTED IT, THE FAILURE SEEMED TO HAVE CORRECTED ITSELF. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,500. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,000.
MY POWER STEERING IN MY SATURN ION WENT OUT WHEN I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH. WHEN TRYING TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY, I HAD NO POWER STEERING AT ALL AND HIT A GUARD RAIL. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AFTER COLLECTING MYSELF. THE POWERE STEERING WORKED JUST FINE. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE SAME THING HAPPENED, WAS RUNNING FINE THEN, NO POWER STEERING AGAIN. THIS TIME IT NEVER CAME BACK. I HAVE SEEN MANY RECALLS FOR GM CARS THAT HAVE THE SAME POWER STEERING SYSTEM. WHY NOT FOR THE SATURN. IT IS JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ON LINE AND HAVE FOUND MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE THAT HAVE A SATURN. SOUNDS LIKE A DEFECTIVE PART TO ME!

THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 38,000.

WE HAD TO TAKE APART THE STEERING COLUMN TO PULL THE FUSE. THE CAR REMAINS IN THIS CONDITION BECAUSE I AM TOLD IT WILL COST CLOSE TO $500.00 TO FIX. I GOOGLE THIS AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS WEBSITES FILLED WITH THIS SAME COMPLAINT. GM HAS WIPED THEIR HANDS OF THE SATURN. I FEEL THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO SATURN OWNERS. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IN APRIL 2010 WHEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY 2007 SATURN ION 3 CAUSING ME TO ALMOST BE IN AN ACCIDENT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING ACTED FINE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO FIND OUT THIS IS A "KNOWN PROBLEM" AND THEY FIXED IT. THEN IN JULY, 3 MONTHS LATER, I HAD A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE AND WAS HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS AGAIN TOLD THIS WAS A "KNOWN PROBLEM" AND THEY FIXED THE GAS PUMP. NOW, I HAVE TERRIBLE GAS MILEAGE AND AM BEING OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. *TR

SATURN ION 2007 ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS DEFECTIVE AFTER JUST 37,000 MILES ON CAR. THE POWER ASSIST FAILS ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THIS CAR USES THE SAME TYPE STEERING MODULE AS THE RECALLED CHEVY COBALT AND PONTIAC G5S. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY GM FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE ON THE SATURN ION. *TR
MY 2007 SATURN ION LOST POWER STEERING ON THE HIGHWAY, I FOUND OUT IT HAS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD SAFELY, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 46000.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHICH IS A 10 MILE COMMUTE. DURING THE COMMUTE, THERE IS A 900 FOOT MOUNTAIN WITH A SLIGHT GRADE AND I WAS DESCENDING THE HILL WHEN ON THE INFORMATION DISPLAY, IT STATED THAT THERE WAS A POWER STEERING PROBLEM AND WHEN I WENT INTO A TURN, THE STEERING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE A 2007 SATURN ION WHICH SOUNDS LIKE IT IS GOING TO BREAK IN HALF OVER EVEN THE SLIGHTEST SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD. I HAVE A WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE WHICH EXPIRED IN JUNE 2010. I ALSO SAW THE PART FOR ONLY $26.00 ~HOWEVER AT THE SATURN DEALERSHIP THEY CHARGED ME $51.00 FOR THE PART. I ENDED UP FIXING THE REPAIR MYSELF TO AVOID BEING ROBBED BY THE SATURN DEALERSHIP!! AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HER STEERING COLUMN MAY ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000. CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF, AFTER CONTACTING DEALER WAS ADVISED TO DISCONNECT THE WIRING HARNESS FROM THE BATTERY.
