SHORTLY AFTER STARTING VEHICLE PWR STR IS DISPLAYED AND THE POWER STEERING QUITS WORKING COMPLETELY. IT STARTED A FEW WEEKS AGO. IT USED TO WORK FOR A BLOCK OR TWO AFTER THE CAR WAS FIRST STARTED. NOW IT HAPPENS AS SOON AS THE CAR STARTS MOVING. I KNOW GM HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY BECAUSE OF PROBLEMS WITH POWER STEERING, BUT IT DOESN'T COVER MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAS MORE THAN 100K MILES. SHOULDN'T THIS BE A RECALL SITUATION? *TR
THE POWER STEERING FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING IN CLOSE QUARTERS ON THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA CAMPUS,. I WAS NARROWLY ABLE TO AVOID HITTING A TELEPHONE POLE WHEN TURNING OFF THE ROAD. AFTER STALLING AND RESTARTING THE CAR, IT WORKED FOR 3-4 MINUTES BEFORE AGAIN FAILING COMPLETELY. USING REPEATED CYCLES OF DRIVING UNTIL IT FAILED, TURNING THE CAR OFF, THEN RESTARTING IT, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET HOME, BUT THE POWER STEERING CONTINUED TO FAIL RECURRENTLY JUST A FEW MINUTES AFTER EACH RESTART. *TR
EXITING OFF I-40 WEST ONTO THE HERMITAGE EXIT THE CAR BEEPED 3X AND THEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. *TR
2007 SATURN ION 3 MANUAL SEDAN 1.) FUEL PUMP DELIVERY SYSTEM RECALL AND HAS BEEN REPAIRED AFTER A SERIOUS FUEL LEAK WAS DETECTED. 2.)PURGE FLOW SOLENOID- ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER THE PUMP DELIVERY SYSTEM WAS DETECTED BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. CAR GETS VERY LITTLE GAS MILEAGE BECAUSE THE FUEL TO OXYGEN RATIO BEING OFF. EVERY TIME I GO TO THE GAS STATION I CANNOT GET MY CAR TO START. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I HAVE HALF OF A TANK OF GAS OR ALMOST ON EMPTY. IT TAKES SEVERAL TRIES AND ONLY STARTS AFTER I REV THE ENGINE BECAUSE THE FUEL TO OXYGEN RATIO AND THE FUEL PUMP FLOODS MY CAR AS SOON AS THE FUEL PUMP IS ENGAGED. I KNOW THAT AFTER THIS HAPPENS SO MANY TIMES THAT IT WILL CAUSE THE STARTER TO BURN UP IN MY CAR. 3.) IGNITION SWITCH-...
WHEN PARALLEL PARKING AND THE WHEEL IS TURNED ALL THE WAY IN ONE DIRECTION THEN THE OTHER, THE POWER STEERING FAILS. IT IS THEN IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE CAR ON A TIGHT TURN RADIUS EVEN WITH SIGNIFICANT DRIVER EFFORT, MAKING PARALLEL PARKING DANGEROUS. THE CAR MUST BE TURNED OFF, THE STEERING WHEEL CRANKED FROM SIDE TO SIDE, THEN RESTARTED BEFORE THE POWER STEERING REACTIVATES AND THE WHEEL TURNS NORMALLY.
POWER STEERING FAILURE - CLICKING FROM AROUND THE STEERING COLUMN FOLLOWED BY IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST AND 3 BEEPS FROM THE INFO CENTER. MESSAGE "PWR STR" DISPLAYED IN INFO WINDOW. *TR
POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. POWER STEERING FAILED. RECEIVED RECALL INFORMATION IN THE MAIL FROM SATURN FOR POWER STEERING MOTOR, HAD IT REPLACED BY CERTIFIED SERVICE CENTER. ONE WEEK LATER, THE SAME POWER STEERING FAILURE OCCURRED. UPON TAKING IT BACK TO THE SAME SERVICE CENTER, I WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING COLUMN NEEDED REPLACEMENT BUT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. I WAS QUOTED $1100 FOR THE REPAIR. THE POWER STEERING FAILURE IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I LOST ALL POWER STEERING WITHOUT ANY WARNING . COMES BACK AFTER CAR IS SHUT OFF BUT RANDOMLY GOES OUT WITHOUT WARNING . *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME ON SATURDAY NIGHT AND I HEARD A CHIME NOISE AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT APPEARED, I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON THE LIGHT WENT OFF AND DIDN'T COME BACK ON. WELL DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THIS AFTERNOON, I HAD TO PULL OVER 3 TIMES TO GET THE LIGHT TO GO OFF BUT THE 3RD TIME IT DIDN'T GO OFF. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT THAT REALLY NEEDS THEIR VEHICLE. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE ASSIST ME WITH THIS MATTER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY. THE DASH CHIMED 3 TIMES, A DISPLAY CAME UP THAT SAID POWER STEERING. AT THAT POINT THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE JUST AS I WAS ENTERING A CURVE. I HIT THE GRASS IN THE MEDIUM THEN CORRECTED. I DROVE ABOUT 4 MILES DOWN THE ROAD TO A QUICK OIL CHANGE PLACE. GOT THE FLUIDS CHANGED AND TOPPED OFF. THEY RESET THE LIGHT IN THE DASH BACK TO NORMAL. THAT IS WHEN I WAS INFORMED THE POWER STEERING WAS ENCLOSED AND COULDN'T ADD POWER STEERING FLUID. I STARTED THE CAR BACK UP THE STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN. SO I DROVE BACK TOWARD HOME AGAIN. GOT ABOUT 4 MILES DOWN THE ROAD AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. *TR
WITHIN 2 MINUTES OF DRIVING MY 2007 SATURN ION THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE. IF I RESTART MY VEHICLE THE SAME THING HAPPENS, THE POWER STEERING FAILS WITHIN 2 MINUTES. I THEN HAVE TO MANUALLY STEER MY VEHICLE FOR THE DURATION OF MY TRIP. *TR

SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST AND TROUBLE LIGHT CAME ON. WORKED FINE AFTER TURNED OFF AND ON AGAIN. COULD STILL STEER BUT VERY HARD WHEN POWER STEERING FAILED. *TT
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR WAS ACTING FUNNY AND NOT DRIVING NORMALLY. THEN THE PWR STR LIGHT CAME ON. I PRESSED MY ONSTAR BUTTON AND ASKED THEM TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. IT CAME BACK WITH NOTHING. I PROCEEDED TO THE STORE I WAS GOING TO. WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE CAR AND TURNED IT ON THE STEERING WHEEL / COLUMN WAS LOOSE AND DROVE NORMALLY FOR ABOUT A MINUTE. AFTER THAT THERE WAS A BEEP AND THE PWR STR LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. *TR
POWER STEERING ASSIST CEASES TO FUNCTION. A CHIME OCCURS, AND A MESSAGE "PWR STR" APPEARS ON THE ODOMETER. *TR
TODAY WHILE TAKING A LEFT ON TO MY ROAD MY BREAKS FELT AS IF THEY HAD GONE SOFT AND SPONGY AND IT WAS HARD TO STOP. AFTER REALIZING THIS PROBLEM MY VEHICLE'S DASH STARTED BEEPING AND THE WORDS PWR STR FLASHED ON MY DASH AND WHILE TURNING INTO THE ROAD MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN NORMAL. IT WAS VERY HARD TO TURN INTO MY ROAD ALMOST RESULTING IN A CRASH. LUCKILY A CRASH DID NOT HAPPEN. I HAD ONE OTHER PERSON IN THE CAR WITH ME. THIS RESULT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A WRECK RISKING THE LIVES OF EVERYONE IN THE CAR. AS I HAD DIFFICULTY PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON RESULTING IN THE WHEEL TURNING NORMALLY. I TOOK MY CAR AROUND THE BLOCK TO SEE IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND IT HAD. I DID MAKE IT SAFELY...
I WAS ON MY HONEYMOON IN ORLANDO, FL. ON NOV. 17TH, 2011 WHEN IT WENT OUT THE FIRST TIME. I DISCOVERED THAT WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN, THAT THE POWER STEERING WOULD RETURN TO PROPER OPERATION. SINCE THAT DAY, IT HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT. NO TYPICAL TIMING OR ENVIRONMENTAL SITUATION, JUST RANDOMLY STOP WORKING. IT DID THAT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS UNTIL 3 WEEKS AGO WHEN IT WOULD SHUT OFF 5 MINUTES AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE EVERY TIME. NOW, IT DOES NOTHING, IT NEVER COMES ON. I CHECKED BOTH FUSES AND BEING IN THE VEHICLE INDUSTRY MYSELF, I KNOW THAT A FUSE, RELAY, OR CIRCUIT BREAKER JUST DIES. I FEEL THAT IF IT WERE THE FUSE, IT WOULD NOT ONLY WORK SOMETIMES BUT IT WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. I AM EXPECTING THE MANUFACTURER TO REPLACE THIS. AS THIS IS MY 3RD SATURN AND I HAD WELL...
WHILE MERGING INTO FREEWAY TRAFFIC ON THE 210W IN IRWINDALE, CA, WE EXPERIENCED MODERATE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THE YELLOW ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, BUT THERE WAS NO WARNING BEEP AND THE PWR STR LIGHT DID NOT ACTIVATE. WITH DIFFICULTY WE WERE ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, THOUGH THERE WAS A DEFINITE INCREASE IN RISK OF COLLISION. WE INTEND TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE ENGINE CONTROL COMPUTER AND THE STEERING MOTOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE LOST POWER ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHUT OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR ON DASH COMES ON AND LOSS OF POWER STEERING . AS I PULL OVER AND TURN OFF ENGINE, THEN CRANK IT RETURNS TO NORMAL FUNCTION. IT IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENT WITH OUT A NOTICE AND IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IF GOING THROUGH A CURVE WITH ONLY ONE OR TWO HANDS ON STEERING WHEEL. *TR
FIRST OFF THE CAR STARTED SPUTTERING, WHEN STOPPED TO FILL WITH GAS WONT RESTART FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, HAS JUST DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC FOR NO REASON. MAIN CONCERN NOW IS THE CONSTANT LOSS OF POWER STEERING, FIRST HAPPENED TO MY WIFE ON THE INTERSTATE WITH OUR 2 YOUNG GRANDCHILDREN AT 65 TO 70 MILES AN HOUR, IT JUST QUIT WORKING SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF HER SHE HAS 3 HEART ATTACKS ALREADY AND AM VERY SURPRISED IT DIDN'T HAPPEN THEN!!! ON 9 MARCH 2012, AT APPROXIMATELY 0900 HOURS WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE, MY 2007 SATURN ION DISPLAYED THE WARNING MESSAGE/ERROR CODE "PWR STR" AND IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST. I WAS FORCED TO REDUCE SPEED AND, USING ALL MY UPPER BODY STRENGTH TO WRENCH THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT, PULLED THE CAR TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT WITHOUT POWER STEERING. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, READ THROUGH MY OWNER'S MANUAL, AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. IT RAN WITHOUT ISSUE FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES BEFORE THE CODE AGAIN APPEARED AND I AGAIN LOST POWER STEERING. THIS SITUATION HAS RAPIDLY PROGRESSED TO A NIGHTMARE; THE CAR RUNS FOR 15 TO 30 MINUTES AND THEN LOSES POWER STEERING. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT IS NO LONGER SUFFICIENT; ONCE IT FIRST LOSES THE POWER STEERING, IT WILL NOT RUN FOR MORE...
WITHIN THE LAST MONTH, THIS VEHICLE HAS BEGUN TO EXPERIENCE POWER STEERING FAILURES AT RANDOM INTERVALS. AS YOU ARE DRIVING, THE PWR STR LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE POWER STEERING ITSELF WILL FAIL. THIS HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES, OCCURRING SEVERAL TIMES ON SOME DAYS, AND OTHER TIMES GOING SEVERAL DAYS WITH NO OCCURRENCE. UPON FAILURE, IF YOU TURN OFF THE ENGINE, AND RESTART THE CAR, THE STEERING WILL WORK AGAIN. THERE IS NO SET SPEED FOR THIS OCCURRENCE EITHER. I'VE HAD IT HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY AT FULL SPEED, (60MPH) AND AT OTHER TIMES IN PARKING LOTS WHERE I'M DOING 5 TO 10MPH. I AM FILING THIS REPORT BECAUSE MY RESEARCH HAS LED ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM, NOT ONLY WITH SATURN, BUT WITH OTHER GM PRODUCTS AS WELL. *JS
YESTERDAY AFTERNOON I WAS DRIVING ON OUR MAIN CITY ROAD, GOING 35-40MPH. WHAT SOUNDED LIKE THE SEAT BELT ALARM WENT OFF A FEW TIMES, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE SAME DAY AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY. IT SEEMS TO BE A SPORADIC ISSUE BECAUSE IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN LAST NIGHT. NOT WANTING TO TAKE ANY CHANCES, I DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT MY LOCAL MECHANICS LAST NIGHT....JUST GOT THE CALL FROM HIM THAT THE CAR NEEDS A NEW STEERING MOTOR. THIS COULD BE AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS EVENT AND THE CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED. I'M A 47 YR OLD WOMAN WITH MS AND IT'S NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO TAKE A TURN WHEN THE POWER STEERING IS OUT. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH , THE POWERING STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,388. UPDATED 03/27/12*LJ UPDATED 03/30/12

WHILE THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL ON 2005-10 CHEVROLET COBALTS AND 2007-10 PONTIAC G5S, N.H.T.S.A. YOU FAIL TO FOLLOW THOUGH WITH SATURN. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. I LOST ALL POWER STEERING. THEN I CHECK IT LATER TONIGHT AND IT MAGICALLY WORKS AGAIN. SO I GUESS TOMORROW IT'LL GO OUT AGAIN. JUST HOPE ITS NOT WHEN I AM TAKING A CORNER. *TR
POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHEN TURNING A CORNER, PROMPTING LOSS OF CONTROL. VEHICLE VEERED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND HIT A CURB. THANKFULLY, IT WAS NOT HIT BY ANY ONCOMING VEHICLES AND THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. A "PWR STEER" WARNING CAME ON JUST AS LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURRED. ONCE VEHICLE POWER WAS SWITCHED OFF AND BACK ON, POWER STEERING WAS RESTORED, ONLY TO GO OUT AGAIN 5 MILES LATER. *TR
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THE POWER STEERING CAME BACK ON THE NEXT DAY BUT HAS BEEN INTERMITTENTLY GOING IN AND OUT EVER SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT DATE. *TR
OPERATING THE 2007 SATURN ION WITH 80,000 MILES ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHEN "PWR STEERING" APPEARED ON MY DASH DISPLAY. THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL; HOWEVER, I'M A 28 YEAR OLD MARINE AND I CAN HANDLE THE VEHICLE. IF THIS WAS TO OCCUR TO AN ADULT OVER 65 YEARS OF AGE OR TO A TEENAGE DRIVER, THEN THIS COULD MOST CERTAINLY CAUSE A WRECK. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE WITHOUT PWR STEERING AS I CAN NOT AFFORD THE $1500 REPLACEMENT/FIX OF THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM. I'M WAITING FOR A RECALL. THE SUBJECT VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT NEW IN OCTOBER 2006 AND I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. *KB

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING LIGHTS GOES ON AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE, THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 60K MILES AND REALLY BAD THAT THE MANUFACTURE DOESN'T TAKE CARE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. THE ELECTRIC STEERING KEEPS GOING OUT AND TOOK IT TO AN AUTHORIZED SATURN DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE WOULD HAVE TO CHECK IT TO SEE WHY ITS GOING OUT AS THERE HAS BEEN RECALLED ON THE ELECTRIC STEERING IN THE PONTIAC G6 WHICH HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND CARRIES THE SAME SYSTEM AND THE DEALER TOLD ME IF ITS NOT THE MOTOR I HAVE TO PAY 97.50 FOR THEM TO FIND OUT ITS NOT THE MOTOR IN THE STEERING PLUS WHAT IT COST TO FIX IT THERE HAS BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRIC STEERING THERE SHOULD BE A FULL RECALL ON ALL THE ONE THAT USES THE SAME PART WITH THE ONES THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED ALL READY THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AND GM SHOULD PAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM NOT CHARGE A CUSTOMER TO CHECK WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT AS THERE IS STILL SOME WARRANTY ON...
WE HAVE HAD THREE OCCASIONS IN WHICH THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED WHILE IN MOTION ON THE 2007 SATURN ION. THIS IS A NOTORIOUS PROBLEM, OVER 5000 COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE, WITH THIS VEHICLE AND YET YOU HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL. POWER STEERING GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING IS A MASSIVE SAFETY ISSUE. LUCKILY THE FIRST TIME IT WENT OUT I WAS DRIVING AND NOT MY WIFE, B/C AT 50+ MPH SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HANDLE THE CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL ON THE CAR IS QUITE SMALL AND DRIVING WITHOUT POWER STEERING IS VERY DIFFICULT EVEN FOR A REASONABLY EXPERIENCED INDIVIDUAL DRIVING WITHOUT POWER STEERING. YOU ARE FAILING TO DO YOUR JOB AND PUTTING PEOPLE'S LIVES AT RISK AS THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT YOU SUPPOSEDLY INVESTIGATED IN 2009. I WAS DRIVING WITH MY YOUNG DAUGHTER IN THE CAR AND AS I WAS TURNING ONTO ANOTHER ROAD, THE POWERING STEERING FAILED AND I WAS NEARLY IN AN ACCIDENT. I READ THAT GM THOUGHT THERE WASN'T ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO WARRANT A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM! IT'S ELECTRONICALLY CONTROL AND HAS FAILED ON THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE. DO WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL PEOPLE ARE FATALLY INJURED BEFORE THEY FIX THIS?! WE HAVE ENOUGH TO WORRY ABOUT WHILE WE'RE DRIVING AND IF THIS SENSELESS ISSUE CAUSE MY LITTLE GIRL TO GET HURT, I WOULD PERSONALLY GO TO THE GM HEADQUARTERS AND KICK THEM IN THEIR MULTI BILLION DOLLAR [XXX]! THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AS THE CAR IS DRIVING UNTIL STOPPED AND STARTED AGAIN. *TR
MY POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND I NOTICED THAT I HAD LOST THE POWER STEERING ABILITY. WITH DIFFICULTY, I STEERED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND WITH THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE, I FEEL IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED FOR MY SPECIFIC SATURN. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED 1.5 YEARS AGO AND DID NOT KNOW OF ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW. I HAVE OVER 100XXX MILES ON IT BUT THAT SHOULD NOT EXCLUDE ME FROM ANY RECALLS THAT MAY BE ISSUED IN THE FUTURE. I WAS DRIVING ON 95 NORTH 12-15-2011 AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND AUTOMATICALLY MY POWERSTEERING SHUT OFF COMPLETELY TO WHERE I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AND LOW AND BEHOLD THE WHEEL AS FINE. THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTILTHE NEXT DAY 12-16-2011 I WAS DRIVING ON 95 NORTH AGAIN AND IT DID IT A SECOND TIME THIS TIME MY TWO YEAR OLD SON WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME (NOT SAFE AT ALL) AND IT WAS RUSH HOUR LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR FF AND ON AGAIN AND IT WORKED SO I COULD GET HOME, THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND RECALLED AS I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. *TR
THE POWER STEERING FAILURE LIGHT COMES ON AND I WILL HAVE NO POWER STEERING. I CAN CUT CAR OFF AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND THEN THE LIGHT IS OUT AND THE POWER STEERING WORKING. VERY SPORADIC. SOMETIMES HAPPENS 3 OR 4 TIMES IN 40 MILE TRIP. SOMETIMES DOES NOT HAPPEN AT ALL. IF VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS AND I AM TURNING A CORNER. *TR
THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING. A WARNING LIGHT SAYING PWR STEERING APPEARED WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS DRIVABLE BUT HARD TO MANEUVER DUE TO LACK OF POWER STEERING. ONCE I RESTART THE CAR IT RESETS AND THE POWER STEERING IS NORMAL UNTIL THE PROBLEM RECURS WHICH IS OFTEN. THERE IS COULD HAPPEN ON A SHORT OR LONG DRIVE. I COULD DRIVE A BLOCK THE LIGHT APPEARS I SHUT THE CAR OFF IT RESETS AND I COULD DRIVE FOR MILES AND IT NOT HAPPEN AGAIN OR GO ANOTHER BLOCK ONLY FOR THE PROBLEM TO HAPPEN ALL OVER AGAIN. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING THIS IS A RECOGNIZED ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF SATURN AND IT WILL BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. I WANT TO ADD MY VEHICLE TO THE LIST OF COMPLAINANTS THAT ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE FAULTY POWER STEERING ISSUE ON THE 2004-2007 SATURN IONS. I HAVE HAD THIS TROUBLE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST THIS YEAR ALMOST RIGHT AT 100,000 MILES. THAT MAKES MY CAR INELIGIBLE FOR THE REIMBURSEMENT OFFER GM HAS. I WOULD BE ON MY WAY TO WORK OR TO THE STORE AND THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY CAR LOST ALL POWER, AND WOULD SHUT ITS SELF DOWN. THEREFORE CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO COAST OFF TO THE SIDE SOMEWHERE WITH MY POWER STEERING LOCKED UP. INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. I READ THAT OTHER GM PRODUCTS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WERE BEING RECALLED, BUT NOT THE SATURN. I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE I HAD A SALVAGE TITLE MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT, EVENTHOUGH IT IS LISTED AS ELIGIBLE BY YEAR, MILEAGE, AND VIN NUMBER. I FEEL THAT THIS DEFECT SHOULD BE CORRECTED AND WOULD BE UNDER A RECALL. *TR
AT ANY RATE OF SPEED, THE ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING MOTOR WILL SHUT OFF LEAVING THE DRIVER TO USE BRUTE FORCE TO STEER THE CAR RIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL "LOCKS" TO THE LEFT AND THE CAR WILL NATURALLY DRIFT THAT DIRECTION, REQUIRING ADDITIONAL FORCE TO HOLD THE CAR WITHIN THE DRIVING LANE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, A LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURRED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE CONTACT MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. UPON RESTARTING, THE STEERING BEGAN TO OPERATE NORMALLY WITHOUT THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,110.
THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING CONTINUALLY FAILS RESULTING IN DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE EARLIER RECALL FOR COBALTS AS THE PARTS ARE IDENTICAL. *TR
THE GM DEALER ADVISED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS BECAUSE THEY HAD SENT AN EARLIER LETTER SAYING THERE COULD BE A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING ELEMENT. THE DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE SUBSEQUENTLY ADVISED THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY MY STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED (E.G. CRACKED, LEAKING, CORRODED, WHATEVER) BUT THEY DO KNOW IT IS NOT THE POWER STEERING ELEMENT. THE REPRESENTATIVE DID SAY THAT GM WOULD PAY FOR THE PARTS BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE LABOR. I ASKED HIM TO SEND ME THIS IN WRITING SO I'D HAVE IT TO TAKE TO THE DEALER BUT HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THIS DESPITE FOLLOW-UP MESSAGES LEFT FOR THE REP. IT DOES SEEM THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING COLUMNS OF THIS PARTICULAR SATURN MODEL BUT I GUESS I'LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE POWER STEERING FAILS...
