RECALL dated June 09, 2022 NHTSA Recall Number 22V-406 VIN: [XXX] 2016 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel . It has been over one year since I received the recall notification. The part is still unavailable. This is a high risk problem, as the safety risk is "fuel starvation which may result in an unexpected loss of motive power, which can cause a vehicle to crash without prior warning." This is grossly unacceptable. This is the first of 2 RECALLS! I would like the manufacturer to BUY BACK this vehicle at a reasonable price. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Truck shuts off on its own mostly at low speed but in traffic for years Ram told me they could not find a problem. now ram says they know what's wrong but they don't know how to fix. recall (66a) (z46) been trying for years to get this fixed. stalled four times in traffic yesterday. Called Ram and they don't when or if then will be able to fix.
I bought a 2016 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel brand new from a Dodge, Ram, Jeep dealership. November 2021 I taking my son, who was 11 years old at the time, to a friends house. The route to the friend's house was through a farm area and the roads were hilly with moderate traffic. I remember driving down one of the hills and starting hearing an odd sound coming from the engine. The sound was sort of like a light thud or rocking sound. It started off quiet and soft at first but start getting louder and louder. We weren't very far from our destination so we continued on. We came to a stop at a stop sign at an intersection then proceeded through it when traffic was clear. We got up to about 35 MPH and the sound from the engine became extremely loud then all of the sudden the engine...
The engine failed while driving, resulting in the engine shutting off and being unable to be restarted. I was driving at the time of the incident, which could have cause Greta danger to myself, my children, and other drivers. The engine has been inspected by an independent repair shop. When the engine first shut down, a warning light came on.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 47 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to stop as needed. The contact stated that the “Service Electronic Throttle Immediately” message was displayed. The contact stated that she continued to depress the brake pedal until the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was then cautiously driven to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the throttle body was gunky and needed to be cleaned. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
Ecodiesel engine suddenly seized up while driving.
There has been no incident yet. This recall (22V-406) has not been addressed in about a year. I feel that the manufacturer is not accepting their responsibility. I have been not using this vehicle very much because of the potential of this shutting down the engine unexpectedly. I'm certainly not pulling my boat to go fishing. If this catastrophic failure occurs a RAM mechanic told me that it would be a total engine rebuild at around $10,000.00. Can the manufacturer be reminded that this recall needs to be fixed ASAP?
I was driving down the highway at 75 mph and my truck died in the middle of the highway luckily I pushed it off to the shoulder and it wouldn’t restart had it towed to a shop where I was told the crankshaft tone ring needed to be replaced but no parts to fix it due to “back order” this has been recalled but doesn’t show a fix on my vehicle and it needs to be fixed immediately.
The contact's company owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after several attempts. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the vehicle had not been operable for five months. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
My 2016 Ram 1500 Sport developed an exhaust leak originating from the exhaust manifold like many other Rams. I noticed it because I could hear a ticking noise upon starting the vehicle, specifically coming from the passenger side front wheel-well. The vehicle was brought to a local Ram dealer and was diagnosed as having multiple sheared studs on the passenger side exhaust manifold. Due to the truck being over 5 years old, the power train warranty no longer covers this. Ram is well aware of this issue but still refuses to initiate a recall. This issue presents a safety concern and has a potential to endanger myself and any other passengers who get in the vehicle due to raw engine exhaust fumes being released within the engine bay while the vehicle is running which could enter the cabin of the vehicle while in operation causing potential injury.
Driving 40 mph and suddenly motor died warnings for throttle and other flashing but coming around a curve was difficult to steer and stopped on curve and had to be pushed out of the way tried to start to no avail and had it towed to a local dealership where they determined it was a common problem with the tone wheel/ reluctor plate that apparently delaminates and loses part of a magnet on the outside which apparently they is a warranty expressly for this problem for 2014-2018 ram 1500 3.0 eco diesels which I’m being told by the dealership that chrysler says my vehicle is not covered ? Why I don’t understand.
There are thousands and thousands of cases involving exhaust manifold cracks and bolts breaking. This should be a recall 1000% as the aluminum heads heat and cool at one temperature and the cast iron exhaust manifold heat and cool differently, This causes the bolts to break or manifolds to crack creating a leak and a very expensive repair. Please look into this, it is not fair and the manufacturer is well aware of this.
On April 29, 2022 while driving 75mph pulling a trailer my truck (Ram 1500 3.0L Ecodiesel) lost full power and electrical. When taken to the dealership for repair, they found that the crank shaft position sensor tone ring attached to the flywheel had become delaminated and caused the entire truck to shut down. When I inquired about a separate recall NHTSA Recall No. : 20V-475, but was told that didn't include my truck. I believe that FCA did not include all the vehicles possible in the previous recall and are putting people at risk as a result.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that before the failure occurred, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact called another local dealer, Ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Baltimore (124 North Point Blvd, Baltimore, MD 21224) and was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The contact stated that the dealer has been unable to fix the issues therefore the vehicle is not in use.
Repair made to address Safety Recall VB1/NHTSA 19V-757 failed after 2.5 years. FCA is unwilling to reimburse nor cover the repair saying it was outside of the two year window. This was a SAFETY recall, shouldn't the repair to address last longer?!?
My truck has a recall NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 22V406000. The truck will randomly die while on the highway forcing me to pull over 3 lanes with no power at all, then the truck will not start for 5 minutes. I brought the truck to the dealer and they will not fix the problem and told me they don’t have a fix yet and it’s expected late 2023. I use my truck for work to pick up equipment and need it almost on a daily basis. I called Chrysler and they said the same thing. I asked if they would buy it back butthey told me it doesn’t qualify for a buyback. It’s not safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH and making a turn, the vehicle jerked and made a loud banging sound. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact noticed that the engine oil was leaking underneath the vehicle onto the ground. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine was blown. The dealer disassembled the engine to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
I was driving down the highway when my truck suddenly throws its self into park while traveling at 55 mph. My stuck started spinning causing me to bounce off the safety rails on both sides of the highway. My truck took a front end hit to a concrete wall and my airbags did not deploy. Once my truck came to a stop sideways in the middle of the highway it wouldn’t come out of park because it was shut off. I started the truck and placed it in drive and was able to move a few feet from the center of the highway. The truck was towed. No warning lights had went off nothing. I’m having bad neck pain from the residual effects of the accident.
There is an open recall for certain vin#'s 20v-475 that happened to my vehicle and according to message boards a lot of other vehicles that have the failure of the tone wheel to the exact way the recall is listed but for some reason the vin does't fall under the recall. My vehicle had a complete shut down without warning or noises while driving at highway speeds on a windy narrow parkway with minimal shoulder. If I wasn't driving in the right lane at the time my situation could've been even more dangerous than it already was. I don't understand how a part that that is used in all ecodiesel engines from 2014-2018 and has a known failure is supposedly only affecting a small percentage of engines when they all have the same part. I have searched message board after message board and have found a lot of listings of...
While driving on the Garden State Pkwy in New Jersey I had a sudden braking event for traffic. After resuming highway speed the engine shut off and the dashboard lit up with warning lights. I coasted towards a narrow right lane shoulder and came to a stop. I was towing a tandem axle U-Haul trailer. The vehicle came to a stop and was blocking almost half of the right traffic lane. I had to be towed off the parkway. The Ram / Dodge dealership said a Tone Ring mounted between the engine and transmission failed causing the engine to suddenly stop. This resulted in a $210 tow and a $3400 repair bill. Research in this failure shows that FCI is aware of the problem and could possibly prevent the engine shutdown and hazards that followed.
While traveling at highway speeds on a narrow parkway with minimal shoulders, the vehicle without warning or noise shut down, almost causing a major accident and I wouldn't have been able to get to the shoulder if I wasn't in the right lane. The shoulder barely had room for my truck putting myself and other vehicles at risk. There was ABSOLUTELY no warning that my car was going to completely shut down, no lights illuminated on my dash until i was on the grass and the engine was dead. The dealership confirms the exact issue was a failure of the Magnetic tone wheel that has a NHTSA Recall# 20V-475, that is an identical symptom and diagnosis to my exact issue. The dealership Meadowlands of Carmel (845)225-8468 [XXX] in the service department quoted me $1,600.00 plus tax to replace the magnetic tone wheel. I am also a government employee and I...
The Main as well as Connecting Rod Bearings prematurely failed at approximately 87,000 miles. Please note that the manufacturer warranty on the 3.0 Diesel engines from FCA/Stellantis is 100,000 miles. As the result, I was stranded on the road with horrible sounds coming from the bottom of the engine block and had to get towed. From my research, I found out that the 1st generation of this engine which I believe were installed on Ram 1500s from 2014 to 2016, had major issues with the above bearing failures well below 100,000 mile warranty period.
Purchased my 2016 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 SLT Big Horn June 2019. At that point the previous owner had the truck in the shop and while there it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed. About January 2020 I stated having the famous Hemi Tick but not all the time. I'm very ocd on all maintenance of my truck, witch I or my husband and son; both certified diesel mechanics. I only run Valvoline Full Synthetic 5w-20 oil and a K&N Oil Filter and is changed before the 5k mark. Fast forward to Oct 2021 truck starts not wanting to start, Tick is very very loud and does it warm or cold does not matter. At times would not even start. Send it to the local dealership, with CEI on, they diagnosis as 4 manifold studs are broken, 800 bucks later they are replaced. But only 4, supposedly two...
There is a current safety recall W58/NHTSA 20V-475 that covers certain ram trucks. My trucks vin didn't make the list. My trucked stalled on the interstate and the dealer diagnosed it has the tone wheel delaminated. I'm not sure how the vehicle manufacture or you came up with the VIN list but there are multiple vins that didn't make the list and having this exact failure.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,500.
My 2016 RAM 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 5.7 Liter HEMI engine has an engine ticking sound that is most noticeable when the truck is first started when the engine is cold. The ticking sounds does start to go away after one to three minutes, when the engine temperature increases. The ticking noise happens both in the winter and summer when the engine is cold. This engine noise first became noticeable when the truck was two years old with approximately 30,000 miles. I purchased the RAM 1500 Laramie new on October 5, 2016. I am a former Nissan service technician. I am acutely aware of the importance of changing engine oil and oil filter at the manufacturer recommended intervals. I am VERY diligent about changing the engine oil and oil filter every 5000 miles with Mobil One synthetic or Pennzoil Platinum synthetic 5W-20 oil. As of May 20, 2022, my RAM...
Header bolt has broken off and have exhaust fumes being released from the engine compart that should be going thru the header and out the exhaust pipes. The dealer is aware and wont repair due to out of warranty when this issue is hazard to the people and the environment
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, the engine seized and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not yet diagnosed nor repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
I took the vehicle to the local dealer and they diagnosed a Delaminated Tone Wheel, the same exact issue as described in Safety Recall W68 / NHTSA 20V-475. The claim that my vehicle is not included in the recall. There seems to be no question that the issue of Tone Wheel Delamination is broader in scope that described in W68 and I am petitioning an expansion of that recall to include all vehicles that potentially have this issue.
I took my 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7 truck in for a frontend alignment to a dealer that has always service my truck since I purchased it in 2017. While there I was informed that I had a exhaust manifold leak and bolts were broken in the block and the cost to repair is 1600.00. After coming home and doing research I have learn this is a common problem in the Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7 that is well documented here on NHTSA as well as the Manufacture and Dealers . If carbon monoxide is escaping into the cab of the truck and you have your windows up and a/c on you are inhaling those fumes. There is no recall and the manufacture has known these bolts breaking causing a exhaust leak for years. This is a major defect that needs to be addressed, No one should be paying $40,000 to...
When traveling at speed, the vehicle shudders or bucks as if the engine cuts out briefly, then resumes normally for a few seconds, then does it again. It creates a hazard on the highway as I attempt to move to the side of the road or travel slowly to avoid damaging the vehicle further. I took the vehicle to the local dealer and they diagnosed a Delaminated Tone Wheel, the same exact issue as described in Safety Recall W68 / NHTSA 20V-475. The claim that my vehicle is not included in the recall, because it was manufactured 6/07/2016, which is just outside the date window of included vehicles. There seems to be no question that the issue of Tone Wheel Delamination is broader in scope that described in W68 and I am petitioning an expansion of that recall to include all vehicles that potentially have this issue. Both the dealer...
I was exiting the freeway, sped up from about 55mph to pass a semi before the exit narrowed and my '16 RAM 1500 Ecodiesel just stopped working. I got warning lights one after another, "engine oil low pressure", "electric system" "brake system" basically the whole christmas tree lit up. I was almost hit and probably killed by the 18 wheeler I just passed, coasted to a stop and pulled over. Engine would not start back up. Got towed to a shop. Mechanic found that the "crankshaft tone ring/wheel" had lost some of it's magnetic material and that caused the almost catastrophic shut down. Mechanic found Chrysler safety recall W58 and W68 that are for this exact issue for my exact make, model, year and engine type- so I call RAM/Chrysler and they say it's my problem because my VIN is not subject to these recalls. I asked them if the...
I own 2016 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 SLT Big Horn. I purchased the truck in June 2019 at our local Dodge Dealership in Vinita, Oklahoma with 59k on it. Truck ran fine, did have the Hemi Tick startin until December 20,2021 and the CEL came on. Personally had my husband, CAT Certified Diesel Mechanic run the codes. To witch P062A Circuit "A" Fuel Pump Range/Performance Code was given. Truck was parked and dealership, Vance Dodge Miami, OK was called. Truck taken on December 28,2021. Told the tech before hand while our daughters Nitro was getting fixed when he got my truck to go through it and make sure no other issues. Once truck was there few days later they called telling me that I had 4 broken Exhaust Manifold Bolts, needed another new battery, and CEL was on due to Fuel Pressure Switch failure. Picked truck up Jan 6,...
On Tuesday January 4th 2022 I was driving my vehicle on interstate 10 at approximately 75 mph, as I was driving my vehicle lost all power and shut off leaving me with no brakes or power steering, I coasted to the off ramp. At which time I was coming up on an intersection where I attempted to apply my brakes to prevent me from rear ending several vehicles. My brakes did not engage properly my steering very stiff and hard to turn, I barley made it around the vehicles in front of me. I then coasted as far as the vehicle would go not being able to stop, leaving me in an active intersection right on the off ramp. I have contacted the manufacturer in regards to recall W58 which is the crankshaft position sensor and tone wheel which 85% of these trucks where recalled for. I was dismissed and...
The contact owns a 2016 RAM 1500. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality, electronic braking, and motive power. The contact stated that several vehicles nearly crashed into the vehicle. The vehicle independently came to a stop. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not repaired. The contact was notified of NHTSA campaign number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,600.
Hello, The safety problem is while driving the truck the fuel gauge needle drops to empty intermittently and a warning light flashes. Now not knowing how much fuel is in the tank is dangerous because running out of fuel especially on the highway will stall the engine followed by loss of brakes and steering. The dealer said its an electrical fuel sender resistor card inside the fuel tank that is shorting out, that alone scares me. Searching online I found out it's a common problem among 2016 Ram trucks. I will not let my family drive this truck until the electrical problem is fixed. Thanks for reading!
A recent service on my RAM prompted a discussion with another customer and subsequently the service manager of the dealer. The topic was exhaust manifold leaks with the RAM 5.7 liter hemi engine. The dealership was repairing 2 that day and the service manager says that’s a typical day. The issue is that after 40,000 miles, one or more of the exhaust manifold bolts fatigue and fail which causes an exhaust leak. Of course and exhaust leak in the engine room is a huge safety risk for the exhaust gases can be drawn into the passenger compartment through the intakes just behind the hood. The leak also causes an emissions violation and can cause fuel economy performance issues. This issue affects models from 2008 to present. RAM has made a design change to fix the issue but has not issued a recall. I was told that it’s highly likely I...
Engine caught on fire, been trying to get recalls replaced since 4/18/21 when all other recalls were taken care of
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while reversing into a parking spot, the vehicle inadvertently stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The contact stated he replaced the battery himself, but the vehicle failed to restart. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 88,001.
Cam shaft went out in March of 2021. Causes the truck to have sudden lose of power. Purchased RAM brand new in November 2016, wouldn't expect the Engine/Cam shaft to go out before 5 years.
Exhaust manifold bolts break every 5-6000 miles causing large leak at firewall. Potentially leaking exhaust gases into passenger compartment
Exhaust manifold leak
Exhaust components broken (bolts which holding exhaust manifold)
Exhaust leek from a broken manifold resulted from bad manifold bolts. I am the original owner
Truck was at the dealer for Recalls repairs & Maintenance. After weekend driving to work, engine fire occurred, truck totaled. Per nationwide insurance letter received 7-7 under "next steps" it gave this website to report this to you. I would like to be notified of outcome
This issue is apperently so well know, it has its own name. HEMI TICK. The bolts on the exhaust manifold break, causing an exhaust leak. The sound of the leak is where the term "HEMI TICK" gets its name.
On 5/27/21 while driving on a highway 295 in Virginia, the truck engine shutoff while driving 70 mph in lane 3 of a four lane highway. Engine would not restart and braking/steering was also affected. Diagnostics and Chrysler/Ram dealer mechanic confirmed the magnetic material on the tone wheel failed and the engine was not able to determine the position of the crankshaft so the engine stalled. The dealer attempted to address this using the W58/NHTSA 20V-475 software remediation of the powertrain control module but this failed. The dealer confirmed the tone wheel needed to be replaced. I have the defective tone wheel. I called Chrysler to report but they said this VIN # was not covered by the recall W68/NHTSA 20V-475 despite the circumstances being identical. There were no other warning lights or symptoms before this incident.
Exhaust rear passenger bolts broke last year when vehicle had 60k miles and now has 130k and drivers side rear bolt has broken. Last time the warranty covered it and now my truck is out of warranty to do the driver side. I googled it and it seems to be a problem with 2009 rams with hemi. Exhaust leak is fairly loud and goes away as the engine warms up.. just wanted to see if there is so many clams of this same part (bolt) is or will there be a recall.... Because of the bolt braking they will have to replace the head.. Its like a $3,000 plus job.
PERSONALLY, JUST 3 WEEKS AGO. MY 3RD ENGINE FAILED. IT LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE GOING TO PUT A 4TH. I OWN A 2016 ECODIESEL 4X4 BIG HORN. ALWAYS TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER FOR MAINTENANCE AND NEVER DROVE IT ROUGH AND RARELY TOWED. 1ST ENGINE WENT OUT AT 55,747 MILES. 2ND ENGINE WENT OUT AT 112,482 MILES. 3RD ENGINE WENT OUT AT 144,806 MILES EVER SINCE THE 1ST ENGINE FAILURE. I'VE TRIED TO HAVE THEM BUY IT BACK WITH FCA REFUSING EVERYTIME. AFTER THE 1ST ONE. I KNEW THE SOUND YOU DESCRIBED AND KNEW THE ENGINE WAS ABOUT TO FAIL SO I STARTED RECORDING IT IN MY PHONE. NOW I HAVE 2 VIDEO DOCUMENTATION ON 2 SEPARATE FAILURES. LET'S SEE THEM TRY TO EXPLAIN THIS ONE. I'VE HAD A LAWYER INVOLVED NOW BECAUSE THEY DON'T LISTEN TO THE LITTLE GUY, SO NOW I HAVE TO TAKE THEM TO COURT. 2 OUT...
I HAVE A 2016 RAM 1500 ECODIESEL. THE COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED TO COMPLY WITH THE EMISSIONS LAWSUIT BROUGHT AGAINST FCA. AFTER THIS UPDATE, THE VEHICLE FUEL MILEAGE DROPPED ABOUT 18% WHICH IS LESS THAN THE ADVERTISED MILEAGE. THE VEHICLE ALSO LOST POWER (I HAVE NO WAY OF MEASURING) BUT A NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE WHEN TOWING. LAST BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, THERE IS A TERRIBLE THROTTLE RESPONSE LAG WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSED SOME NEAR CRASH SCENARIOS FOR ME WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PULL OUT ON A BUSY ROAD. SPECIFICALLY, WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR WHILE ROLLING WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD, THE THROTTLE MUST BE PUSHED BETWEEN 3/4 AND FULL TO GET THE VEHICLE TO RESPOND (I'VE READ THIS IS CAUSED BY THE COLD TURBINE). THIS OCCURS EVERY DAY WITH THE MASTERS NEAR ACCIDENT OCCURRING TODAY WHILE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO 3 DIFFERENT...
