2016 KIA OPTIMA Engine Problems

The contact owns a 2016 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the engine seized and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that the power steering, brakes, and accelerator pedal became inoperable. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in a warranty repair however, parts were not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,798. The consumer stated the vehicle was repaired at the owners expense but remains unsafe. Also, the consumer stated she was guaranteed reimbursement by Kia over 7 months ago, and consistently trying to recoup the cost of the repairs, but to no avail.

Car was stolen off of the street. No alarm went off, keys were with my person. Back window was busted on the ground and all that was left. From video evidence, we can see that all it takes to steal a Kia is a screwdriver and a usb cord. Kia’s stolen are driven recklessly and harmfully to pedestrians (see #kiaboyz on tik tok or instagram). Problem has NOT been acknowledged by Kia or Hyundai. Insurance providers are aware of the situation.

Car has been burning an excessive amount of oil, first reported by my oil tech. Took to the dealership and they requested an oil consumption test, which I had to pay for. This is at 85000 miles. Drove for a little over a 1000 miles and returned it for a second round, the dealership said it had used a considerable amount of oil and would be escalated directly to the manufacturer. It has no leaks, smokes considerably, and hesitant upon acceleration. We will see where it goes from here, have been told that this is common in these vehicles. No oil light or check engine light ever came on. Just glad it didn’t lock up or blow up with my family in the car.

Four times in less than one year, car stutters, or stalls completely, check engine light flashes, and I have to maneuver to highway shoulder or slow lane to get towed. Very unsafe. Kia keeps it for a week , forces a software update repeatedly, sends me on my way and a few months later the sane thing again. Error codes always indicate engine knock amongst other things/an issue they know is theirs but “have to exhaust all options before they will approve replacement” according to service mgr. I have a car that I don’t feel safe driving because I drive alone and can’t trust it to get home home so I end up in the highway at 4am every time.

There is a known issue with this motor burning oil in the engine at an excessive rate. This caused my car to shut down on the California freeway from 65 mph. Warranty wont cover, dealership says its a manufacturer issue that is known and the manufacturer isn't replacing the problem engines. This is a life safety matter

Oil consumption

Got an oil change bout a month ago. 2 weeks ago my oil light started flickering. Miles on vehicle is 119842 next oil change due at 122,000 miles.just 2 days ago as i was coming to a stop at a stop sign my check engine light came on and my oil light came on and stayed on and car shut off. Car comes on but no longer starts. At the kia dealership now.

My 2016 Kia Optima EX with the 2.4L GDI I4 engine has been ticking for roughly a year. The ticking coincides with acceleration (the harder you accelerate, the faster the tick). I took it my local Kia dealer where I've gotten my service done since purchasing the car. They simply stated, "these cars tick, don't worry about it." So I continued changing my oil regularly and monitoring it. Starting around 57,000 miles the engine started consuming excessive oil and occasionally experienced some knocking upon acceleration. I took it to the dealership and they put me on an oil consumption check every 1000 miles. After 3 rounds of checks they determined it was an issue with the GDI fuel system needing to be flushed which was performed by the dealership service department. The engine appeared to no longer consume excessive oil after I checked at about 1000 miles. After approximately 2000 miles, before my wife left for a long trip, I checked oil and it was down 1 quart. Over the last year I’ve noticed my car burning a lot of oil, around 1qt every 1000 miles. I’ve also noticed the transmission slipping some. I’ve checked thoroughly for leaks and have found none and the place that changes my oil has said they see no leaks also.

My car keeps running out of oil. I've taken it to kia and my mechanic. Both said I need a new engine. My car is hard to drive. I'm putting oil in my car after 200 miles because it's almost empty after having oil changes. I use 8 quarts of oil every time . My car drives horrible. I'm afraid it's gonna shut off on me when I'm driving and it's gonna cause an accident. I'm scared to drive it anymore and I owe 2 yrs left on it. The car engine suddenly started making a lot of noises, so we immediately pulled over and stopped the car. The engine wouldn't start back up, and started smoking. We had it towed to an independent service center, where they confirmed that the engine had a crack in it and would need to be replaced. There was still oil (we had just topped it off 1 week prior as it used a large amount of oil). There weren't any warning lights on until the same minute it started making noises, at which time the oil and engine light came on.

The engine is burning about a half a quarter of oil every 1000 miles. The transmission studers when trying to take off and sometimes lags when you accelerate harder.

The main problem with the car is the error p1326 is the knock sensor. I have this car for almost 5 or 6 months. The error has never been inspected by any insurance or police. The only warning about this problem was the "engine light" on the car.

In Sept the car oil light came on. The car was out of oil. Took it to shop and they could not find a leak. The car was filled with oil. Less than 1,000 miles later in Oct the same situation occurred again. The car was inspected an no leak was found but the oil was gone. In Dec after going 2 500 miles the same situation occurred again and another shop inspected and could not find out why. In all 3 situations the driver had to pull over immediately and be stranded until oil came.

My car has been burning oil and progressively got worse. The oil lamp light would only blink for a few seconds and turn off to indicate the oil tank was low. Misfire– oil on the spark plug caused misfire. check engine light came on. OBDII scanner show a P0302 trouble code. Eventually the engine misfired enough and lead to a backfire. This also led to Decreased Fuel Mileage, Catalytic Converter Damage, and Blue Exhaust Smoke.

I was driving the car on the high way when I suddenly heard a strange noise from the engine with a shake in the car then the car completely switched to the hybrid engine from the gas one. The hybrid battery was depleted within a minute or two but I was able to put the car on the side of the high was before it completely stopped moving. After that whenever I press on the gas pedal nothing happened there was zero propulsion. 2016 Optima with 111K miles: 7/17/19 car received ECU upgrade for the KSDS system. After upgrade, on 5/23/2020 at 90K miles, the car started to shake/knock, engine light came on, car went in to limp mode, car was taken back to the Kia dealer, code was recorded as P1326, another update was performed, and due to excessive damage bearings were replaced. My 2016 KIA was consuming 1 quart of oil every 500 miles in 2021. Called KIA dealer about oil consumption issue and they started 3-1000 mile oil consumption tests on 4/6/21 (miles 92,053). On the 1st 1000 mile test, 2 qts of oil were consumed. 2nd 1000 mile test 1.2 qts of oil were consumed. 3rd 1000 mile test 1.5 qts of oil were consumed. All results were reported to KIA. The 3rd oil consumption test was completed on 5/27/21 (miles 95,065) and I went home and checked the oil level on the dipstick, which was filled correctly to the full mark. On 5/28/21 the service mgr called to schedule an engine compression test on 6/8/21. On the morning of 6/8/21, I checked the engine oil and it was more than a qt low (miles 95,510) with only 445 miles since the oil was topped off. Delivered car to KIA...

AFTER NEW OIL IS ADDED, ACCELERATION WILL DELAY AT TIMES, USUALLY WHEN STARTING FROM A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGINS MOVING FORWARD A CLOUD OF BLUISH/WHITE EXHAUST WILL BE CREATED. THE CLOUDS OF EXHAUST OCCURS MORE OFTEN JUST AFTER AN OIL CHANGE OR OIL IS ADDED. WILL CONTINUE FOR THE FIRST 1000 MILES THEN WILL BECOME LESS FREQUENT AS MORE OIL IS CONSUMED AND THE AMOUNT REMAINING IN THE OIL PAN IS LESSENED. HAS OCCURRED SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR.

VEHICLE STARTED BURNING OIL, COMPLETED OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT I HAVE TO GET A NEW ENGINE DUE TO COMBUSTION RINGS PROBLEM.

WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY, CAME TO A STOPLIGHT, AND AS CONTINUING WITH DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTS BLINKING AND WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE, AS IF IT WAS SLIPPING. CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER AROUND 30 MPH UNTIL FEELING THE CAR NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. I USED A CODE READER AND GOT CODE P1326, WHICH I HAD LOOKED UP AND SAYS IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH A KNOCK SENSOR DETECTION SYSTEM. HAD BRING MY CAR IN TO GET IT CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD MY CAR HAD LOW OIL, ABOUT 2 QUARTZ. I DO REGULAR OIL CHANGES THOUGH AND HAD DONE AN OIL CHANGE A FEW WEEKS PRIOR. THE SHOP I WENT TO TOLD ME THERE MAY BE A SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR THE CAR. WAS TOLD SPECIFIC YEARS HAVE HAD ENGINE PROBLEMS WITH OIL, LOSING OIL ALTHOUGH NO LEAKS OR SIGNS.

AND THAT THE ENGINE CAN BE DANGEROUS KIA HAVE BEEN FOUND LIABLE FOR THESE CLAIMS. THEY SAID THEY GAVE ME EXTRA WARRANTY BUT IF IT CATCHES ON FIRE OR EXPLODES THEN THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME AND BY THEN IT IS TOO LATE!! BURNING OIL AND ENGINE FAILURE

MID SEPTEMBER, 2020, I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT MY HEADLIGHTS WOULD TURN OFF AS I WAS DRIVING. THEY WOULD CUT OFF FOR NO MORE THAN 15 SECONDS AND TURN BACK ON. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT, UNTIL I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH OTHER COMPONENTS OF MY 2016 KIA OPTIMA. ON 11/30/2020 I WAS DRIVING AT 30MPH THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL AREA. AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR BEGAN TO JUMP AND HESITATE. NO MATTER HOW FAR DOWN I PUSHED THE GAS, THE CARE WAS JUMPING/SHAKING AND WOLD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 20MPH. I PULLED INTO AN AUTOZONE WHERE THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE VEHICLE. ERROR CODE P1326 (KNOCK SENSOR) CAME UP. THE NEXT MORNING, I CALLED COASTAL KIA OF WILMINGTON IN NORTH CAROLINA AND EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THEY SENT AN EMPLOYEE TO PICK...

MY OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CONTINUES TO TURN ON AND OFF EVEN AFTER REPLACED PARTS! BURNING AT LEAST 2 QUARTS OF OIL PER WEEK! BRAKE LIGHTS STOP WORKING IF HEADLIGHTS ARE ON! HAD TO START USING SUPER TO ELIMINATE A RATTLE WHILE ACCELERATING UPHILL! ENGINE SHAKES!!

THE CONTACT STATED OIL WAS ADDED TO THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING HOWEVER, SOON AFTER THE VEHICLE STALLED, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT HER MOTHER'S RESIDENCE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ARRANGEMENTS WERE MADE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000.

PULLED UP TO RED LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THEN SCREEN SHOWED ENGINE CONTROL FAILURE, AND LOST POWER. PULLED IN PARKING LOT , CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE . CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AN HOUR AWAY, THEY RESET THE COMPUTER SAID IT NEEDED AN UPGRADE AND I PICKED IT UP THREE DAYS LATER. HAD IT HOME THREE DAYS AND SAMETHING AGAIN, CAR TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY AGAIN RESET COMPUTER AND SAID NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO TILL THE CAR EITHER BLEW UP (WHICH THEY KNOW ABOUT THESE FAULTY MOTORS)MOTOR SEIZED OR CAUGHT FIRE. NOW I HAVE A $47,000 CAR SITTING IN MY GARAGE THAT I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE.
