The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and turned off, the vehicle became inoperable. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump module and valve had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 188,000.
I used my cruise control on the highway and once I turned it off my Jeep began vibrating a lot. My Jeep now vibrates all of the time when I accelerate. I took it to the shop and had over $2,200 in work done and they are unable to find the specific reason that it is vibrating when I accelerate and stated it likely to due to something with the transfer case. After hours of non stop research I discovered that the issue that I am having is exactly like the Stellantis 01C issue but I am not finding my Jeep under the recall list. I also had an issue where my oil cooler housing unit was cracked and had to be replaced because it is made out of plastic.
It and it had a weird knock to the engine. Did get searched five times until it was figured out. It was the lifters and camshaft that failed at 82,000. it was fixed it did stall on the highway once before that. complete fix the water pump issue. for the fuel system the EVAP code keeps showing up every few thousand miles even though it's been checked and serviced. No leaks of any kind even the very small code leak. No leaks were found in any parts of the car
Car lost power while driving. Related to recall notice received Feb 2025 with no update still. recall 01C related to PTU power transfer unit. Recall is past due solution and available parts from Chrysler and POSES A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE!
While driving, my car stopped and on the dashboard was a message that said shift to p. This happened 2x in a week.
Motor making a ticking noise, brought to dealership and was told the camshafts are destroyed and there is metal throughout the rest of the engine. 90881 miles on the car.
EGR coolant compartment cracked leaked coolant
When I was driving onto the high way my jeep just cut off and I couldn’t accelerate only steer doing 45 mph with cars behind me and I saw on the dash a message “ shift to park. And then put into Desired gear” well it was on drive D and I couldn’t put it in park until I completely stopped at this point I had a guy pull over next to me and called me jerkoff because he thought I was trying to brake check him , I explained to him what happened . Well once I did this I got moving , but it happened again latter on that day when I was almost home . I dont feel safe driving it anymore
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle shuddered abnormally. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the diagnostic result was unknown. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Not sure what component caused the vehicle to burst into flames. It is no longer (to the best of my knowledge) available for inspection (unless still at tow yard). The Jeep burned, caught another vehicle in the driveway on fire, as well as fence separating neighbor's house, and spread to structure (my house). Vehicle was inspected by ins. reps/others. It was taped off as battery was still live. Fire report states vehicle fire. Car was parked in driveway and was not driven for two days. No prior warnings or recalls.
Jeep randomly started loosing power and shutting down while on/driving. It causes the entire vehicle to freeze/seeze up. Hard to turn the wheel. Can't put in park. Starts glitching and lights/beeping going on and off repeatedly. Have to jump start and then it does the exact same thing and dies within minutes.
Oil filter canister cracked dumping oil on top of motor, fire risk and engine failure risk
I purchased a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I only drove the jeep for 2 days and the check engine light came on. On the way to the mechanic the jeep overheated. I was left on the side of a busy road and put in a dangerous situation. When I made it my mechanic shop, the mechanic explained the 3.6 engine has repeat issues with overheating! I now have a vehicle I cannot drive. Why has there not been a recall if this is an issue for many with this engine?
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while approaching a light and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the vehicle shut off. The contact pumped the brake pedal while the vehicle was coming to a stop. The contact stated that the vehicle was unable to be shifted into park for a while; however, after several attempts, the contact shifted into park, restarted the vehicle, and continued driving. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the cylinder, ignition coils, spark plugs, and an oil change were performed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 74,893.
The EVAP system leak P0456 the code I received.
Let me preface this by saying, I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars trying to get this fixed. Changed Batteries. Changed Fuel Pump. Changed Sensors. Made sure everything is tight/plugged in properly. It's gone to Jeep and other shops but no one has been able to find or fix the issue. Probably about two years ago this started. I was driving to work as normal and stopped at a red light. When I tried to accelerate, the car kind of jerked a little like it didn't want to go and then chugged on. Leaving work the same day, it did the same thing, but instead of just jerking, the car completely stopped. The dash displayed a notification that said: "Shift to Park". All of the electricity was on (lights, air, dash) but the car somehow switched itself directly into neutral even though I was in drive. Brought it to the shop,...
I was at a redlight at a complete stop. I began to turn right onto the bypass and got to 13MPH when my Jeep wouldn't catch the next gear. I rode in the emergency lane to make it to an autoparts store. My battery needed replacing so we tried that. I got back in Jeep and went to the red light and began to turn left and when my jeep got to 13MPH again it wouldnt shift to the next gear and I the car behind me had to slam on their brakes to keep from rear-ending me. I have found online a recall for 2016-2017 Jeep Cherokee where over 67,000 were recalled for transmission issues. It took me an hour and a half speaking to 4 different people at Jeep Customer Care whom all told me "well that doesnt apply to your vehicle." How does it NOT apply when my...
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the check engine warning illuminated, and there was an abnormal sound coming from the driver’s side of the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that cylinder #3 had misfired and a tune up was needed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was then taken to a different independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the cam shaft and both head gaskets needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but while in reverse(R), the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted after three attempts. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that unstated software needed to be updated and reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired but while stopped at an intersection the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to...
Faulty transmission that breaks before 90K miles
VVL solenoid was faulty, and seems to be a common problem with 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Replaced coils, spark plugs and VVL solenoids.
The oil filter housing in the Jeep Grand Cherokee is known to have serious problems and safety concerns. The Pentastar oil filter housing used in these vehicles can crack and warp due to heat exposure and this can lead to serious oil leaks. Despite knowing about this issue, the company has never issued a recall, instead, they have discontinued the production of the Pentastar and redesigned the oil filter housing for newer vehicle models. This oil filter housing is prone to so many issues mainly because it is made from plastic, not a metal that can withstand high engine temperatures. My mechanic is replacing the plastic housing now with an Aluminum one that will withstand the heat and pressure needed to hold up. He told me that it has been a major issue for several years now and he has personally changed several of these out over the years. At...
A day after I bought my 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited my oil cooler spilt and oil went into my hole cooling system. Rock Top Chrysler said $5200.
2017 Jeep grand Cherokee, 103k miles. I purchased my car new for around $45,000. All maintenance was done on time. Oil cooler assembly went out, then head gaskets, now I need a new engine. At 103k miles !Jeep has done nothing other than tell me sorry that will be $15,000 to repair. My engine is doing that loud clicking sound everyone is talking about. I’ve spoken with countless people this has happened to, some as early as 49k miles. There are videos online of mechanics bragging about how much money these engines are making them in repairs. Yet Stellantis still refuses to take responsibility for their 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine issues. Even though there is a current class action against them for it. There are full YouTube videos from mechanics explaining exactly why the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine fails and still Stellantis chooses to take more money from consumers to...
My 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee would not start. The power connection on the starter burned and I could smell smoke emanating from the vehicle. My jeep required a tow to a local garage to be fixed. Upon my Mechanic examining my vehicle, he discovered the engine also had a blown head gasket. To fix these issues is estimated to cost $5k - $6k. My jeep only has 82,000 miles on it.
I have replaced the water pump three times costing me close to $1000.00. No warning light has came on only the smell when it is leaking that my fiancé recognizes. So in this case do I have to wait until it starts to overheat and I am stranded on the side of the road? Why am I replacing an obvious faulty part? I also know that I am not the only jeep owner within the year of mine that has had this problem that Jeep doesn’t recognize? If needed I can provide copies of my receipts and dealership paperwork. Also why are the new water pumps protected with a warranty? Each water pump I had installed could have defects.
Issue with transmission/transmission control module. Jeep has a hard time shifting from Reverse, after 3 tries the gear is lost and vehicle must be shut down in order to try again. Once engaged, it'll "BANG" loudly, cause the tires to squeal, and then reverse is granted. Also have an issue going between 3rd and 4th gears. To shift, we have to increase pressure in the transmission, sometimes getting the RPM up to 6k before shifting is allowed. After three unsuccessful attempts, all gears are lost and you have to get down to 33 mph in order to gain 3rd gear back or you have to pull over and restart the vehicle.
While driving on the freeway, in the fast lane, with children in the car the car lost all ability to accelerate, and lights came on. We had to coast to the side of the road and stop the car on the shoulder. We were almost hit while stuck there waiting for a tow truck. Nothing in the car worked, we were lucky to get one car window down as it was 103 degrees. We couldn't get out of the car bc we had two toddlers in car seats and no where safe to go. So we sat there praying and called family to come get us since we couldn't get kids into tow truck. Towed car to jeep and jeep wouldn't even look at it bc they were 3 weeks out diagnosis so we towed to closest mechanic and spent 2k to replace fuel pump. No warning lights messages or...
Car has always run great till last week, turned off Jeep then tried to start-brake is hard, steering is locked, push button lights up acc and run but wont start, fob is good battery, car batteries are new, service tech at dealer cant figure out Im without a vehicle now for a week so far????
The exhaust manifold bolts cracked on my jeep Grand Cherokee hemi 5.7L which has caused a "tick" sound and my 7yr old can smell gas while inside the vehicle. We have taken to dealerships who refuses to fix under warranty. I called Dodge jeep of Tomball and They say it's not covered emissions. They also say it's common issue with the Hemi's. The problem is only getting worst and causes my son to have headaches. The problem is noticed on startup and acceleration.
The Jeep transmission wont go into gear, loses power ,wont go into reverse, speeds up on its own and doesn't go into drive or losses power
vehicle will randomly shut off with out warning, error message occurs about gears cant be switched and shuts off
I was on the highway and the vehicle shut off. On another incident I was driving the vehicle and the power steering wen out on the vehicle. On another incident after the power steering went out the vehicle put a notice on the dash to put the vehicle in park when the vehicle was already in park. I tried to turn the vehicle off and it would not allow me to do so. Then after repaired multiple times the battery started to over charge to 21 voltage. At this point, the vehicle is just not safe to drive.
Was traveling in the fast lane of highway when the engine just stopped. Able to coast to shoulder of highway. Put car in park and tried to restart the engine. It would not restart. Gas tank was 1/4 full. Had to be towed. The same situation happened in Feb 2020 but the weather was bad and the dealer could not find a problem so it was blamed on the moisture in the electrical system.
I came to a stop at a red light. The vehicle engine turned off and then right back on with out me taking my foot off the brake. Once the light turned green I pressed the gas and the entire car shut off. I didn’t have any lights for hazards, couldn’t roll down my windows or unlock the doors. It also wouldn’t go into park so I had to put on the emergency brake.
The motor has blown in my 2017 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. My radiator and starter as well as my fuse panel. This car needs $11,0000 worth of work
My car loose power engine light and sometime A orange light . Vibration and cheking and clicking Temperature engine go up when start ac come down. I already change spark plug sprockets coil Water pump thermostat . I have same problem . Leaking oil. The inspection failed Code 0302 105
While driving dashboard displayed “shift to P then desired gear.” I stopped on the side of the road. Placed vehicle into park and tried to turn off the vehicle. The vehicle wouldn’t turn off, Displayed “vehicle not in park” Then I placed the vehicle into drive and the dashboard displayed again “shift to P then desired gear.” I was unable to turn off the vehicle no matter what gear I had it on. The check engine light was on, also the service 4WD, service shifter and the stability control. The vehicle also wouldn’t drive forward or reverse. At one point wouldn’t even park. The engine was stuck running for almost 3 hours until I was able to get someone out to pull a plug to shut the engine off. A diagnostic test was done while all the lights listed previously were still on. And no code would appear on the...
Early engine wear on 3.6L v6. Heavy rocker arm and lifter noise.
Purchased the car brand new back in 2017. In 2020, while driving normally, the car loss power and would not accelerate and started to have rough idles then auto stop/start came on followed by check engine. Brought it to the mechanic for diagnose and told me that there is a misfire on cylinder 2 and VVT sensor needs to be replaced. Brought it to the dealer and they fixed the issue. Two years after (present) at 100K miles, The car started to have the same issue. Yes it was high mileage but it was driven responsibly along with timely and proper maintenance from the dealer. The car started to have rough starts and white smoke on cold start. And on August 26, 2022 the car would not start. Got it towed to the dealer and told me that it has a bad starter. I was quoted for almost $2000. Once...
THE 2014 - 2017 Jeep grand cherokee as well as many other chrysler mad 3.6lL v engines are all either past their standard warranty period or are approaching it. The problem i have specifically is that my car has under 50 k miles and i have a receipt showing it was bought in november of 2017, there for still under Jeeps powertrain warranty, and the headgasket is failing. ive been to multiple accredited mechanics before taking the vehicle to jeep how performed all the necessary test to concludits the gasket needs to be replaced. i then took it to a dealership who said " On thes 3.6L engines it extremely common for this to happen." i was then quoted 3k for the repair and dropped my car off. after 2 weeks of them having my car and me calling daily for updates i was finally told the car needs a...
As I slow down close to a stop the car loses all power. The car will coast along with no power. I have to verve to the side of the road. The car has no power to accelerate . If I shut off the engine the computer reboots and everything is fine. I have submitted this problem to Jeep and nhtsa previously. I bought this car new from the dealer in 2017 and have had this problem starting in year one. Jeep updated the software back then. It only occurs about 1-2 times a year, but causes a very dangerous issue when it occurs.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop light, she depressed the accelerator pedal to activate the Auto START/STOP feature; however, a message stating, "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon” was displayed and the vehicle failed to restart. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
There are a ton of posts on Reddit showing a bunch of 3.6l jeep owners all having the same issue with the VVT/VVL Solenoid. It seems to be all the same, the truck starts running very rough and like complete [XXX], CEL starts blinking, and then they check the codes coming up and they all seem to be getting codes p0456, p105d & p0302. The misfire is in cylinder 2 and the VVT Solenoid needs to be replaced at not even 70k miles. The bad solenoid caused the jeep to be undriveable. There are a ton of jeep owners who are all having this same EXACT issue with their jeep and yet this isn’t a recall?? Jeep obviously made a faulty truck. Please explain HOW THERE ISN’T A RECALL TO FIX THE VVT/VVL SOLENOID IN THESE JEEPS?? Some people are spending thousands to get it fixed at a dealer, which...
https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2017/JEEP/GRAND%252520CHEROKEE/SUV/4WD#complaints360 SAME AS THIS COMPLAINT at start up, dashboard flashes warning for EVERYTHING....SHIFTER, BRAKES, ETC BLINKERS DON'T WORK! When it finally quits, engine light stays on but it will shift. computer isssue
Driving down highway at 75 then the warning light for the start/stop function lights up, the jeep then starts cutting out and sounding really rough, speed immediately drops down to the 40"s this is on a major roadway luckily there were no cars behind me because they probably would had ran into me due to speed dropping that quickly thought I had a flat due to the sound pulled over as quickly as I could got out checked everything did not see anything wrong no fluid leaking, no smoke ect..get back in the vehicle go to proceed to get back up on the road and the vehicle is running really rough and jerky will not go above 40 engine light then comes on along with warning bells, pull back over on side of road turn vehicle off let it set for about 5 min. then start back up engine light...
On April 11, 2022, after driving home from work I noticed oil dripping onto my driveway. I opened the hood of the vehicle and discovered that my cooling system was completely filled with oil and there wasn't any noticeable coolant left in the system. I then checked the oil level via dipstick, and found there to be an extremely low level of oil in the engine. Prior to pulling into the driveway, there were no warning lights, no check engine light, or low oil lights on the dashboard. Nothing to indicate a potentially serious issue. The vehicle was then towed to a Jeep dealership for repair. The dealer indicated, both on the paperwork and over the phone, that the Engine Oil Adapter Housing (Mopar Part 68308741-AF) was leaking internally, causing the oil to be redirected into the cooling system and displacing the coolant (see attached invoice from Jeep). Most of...
Warranty ended on 2/7/22. Car has 58,300 miles. Experienced white smoke coming from the engine on 2/21/22. Took to the dealership right away and diagnosed a warped cylinder head, leaking water pump, and bad starter motor. Never saw the temperature high on the car. The white smoke was experienced after sitting overnight. Also Catalytic converter may have issues. Called Jeep customer service and could not extend “good will” coverage to pay for the repairs.
Started my 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee after a heavy snow fall the next day drove about 10 minutes and horn started going off lights exterior and interior started flashing, faults came across the screen to service every imaginable function from transmission to power steering and everything in between and truck just completely failed on the road. Waited roughly 30 minutes truck fired back up drove about 200 feet to a gas station while waiting for a tow truck. Brought to the dealership and they flashed 9 different modules. All seemed fine until another month. Remote started Jeep went to get in dash cluster screen black. Turned off and back on cluster came back but was delayed along with heck engine light. Drove back to dealership and was told they wouldn’t be able to look at it for 3 weeks. About a week after the cluster incident I go to leave...
