The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond or exceed 30 MPH. The contact stated that the speedometer reading was lagging. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerated as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal with more force. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the camshaft position sensor was replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that the starter was previously replaced due to the engine's failure to turn over while starting the vehicle. The contact stated that upon switching to Sport Mode and driving 40 MPH, the vehicle jerked and lost motive power. The contact shifted to neutral(N) and was able to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle was undrivable. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was...
My 2016 Hyundai Sonata (2.0T/2.4L engine) has been experiencing loss of motive power and severe engine stumbling at stoplights, creating an unreasonable risk of a crash in traffic. The Check Engine light is on with DTC P0010. Upon inspection, the internal oil seal plug at the intake camshaft E-CVVT has become unseated, causing an active oil leak. This matches the exact defect and symptoms (elevated idle of 1,200–1,400 RPM and power reduction) described in Hyundai Service Campaign TX3 (TSB 15-01-022-1). While that campaign only applied to 2015 models, my 2016 vehicle has suffered the identical failure. I am requesting that this safety-related defect be investigated for 2016 models to prevent potential engine fires from oil leaks or accidents from sudden power loss
Subject: Excessive Engine Oil Consumption – 2016 Hyundai Sonata I am reporting an ongoing and excessive engine oil consumption issue with my 2016 Hyundai Sonata that I believe may represent a safety defect or other significant reliability concern. The engine is burning oil at a rate far beyond normal expectations (requiring frequent top-off well below recommended mileage intervals), resulting in dangerously low oil levels while driving. I have maintained the vehicle per manufacturer recommendations and documented oil add-ins and dealer visits, but the problem has worsened over time. Despite presenting this problem to my Hyundai dealership, they have declined to authorize engine cleaning or further corrective action due to the mileage. I am struggling with high oil consumption and potential risk of engine failure while driving. This issue is not unique to my vehicle — numerous similar complaints exist in Hyundai forums and in other owners’ submitted complaints (e.g., reports...
Oil pressure sensor failure caused oil to leak into the injector harness damaging components and engine shutdown. Because this was a sudden engine shutdown and safety-related loss of motive power caused by an oil pressure sensor failure this presents a safety risk
Vehicle stalled while driving
On November 10, 2025, my 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid (VIN [XXX] , approximately 150,000 miles) experienced a sudden loss of power while I was turning right and accelerating into traffic. The vehicle immediately entered limp mode with flashing warning lights and audible alerts. The vehicle lost normal propulsion and could not accelerate properly, creating a dangerous situation as it was blocking a traffic lane. I was forced to limp the vehicle into a nearby parking lot to get out of traffic. The vehicle was not safely drivable afterward and was towed home. A few days later, the vehicle was towed to Murdoch Hyundai in Lindon, Utah, for diagnosis. The vehicle was found to have diagnostic trouble code P1326, which Hyundai identifies as activation of the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) related to connecting-rod bearing wear. This condition is part of Hyundai’s known engine defect and safety recall/warranty extension programs. During...
The vehicle experienced an engine and power train failure while driving on the highway, resulting in sudden loss of power. The electrical system also failed after the dealer visit, causing the battery to die every morning. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My car suddenly lost power on the highway and would not accelerate, forcing me to pull over on the shoulder with traffic moving around me. This created a serious risk of a rear-end collision or crash. Additionally, after the dealer visit, the electrical system began failing and the vehicle has been completely dead every morning, leaving me stranded with a child and unable to reliably start the car. The problem has not been reproduced because the check engine code cleared itself after the incident; however, the symptoms absolutely remain. The dealer refused to diagnose the loss-of-power event because the code was cleared, and they returned...
High engine oil consumption 2 qts every 1k miles.
My vehicle had the following symptoms: 1. Alternating between sluggish acceleration/handling AND rough acceleration with the vehicle lurching forward at times 2. Check engine light with error code P00010 3. Occurred frequently over a one month period (5+ times) This was unsafe as the car could not properly accelerate and would lurch forward at intersections. This could easily have led to a crash. We limited driving. This issue was observed at the dealer where I repaired issue. The issue is exactly the same as the issue described in the recall for Hyundai Sonata 2015 under SB-10058136-4434 and was resolved by replacement of the E-CVVT seal as described. This issue is ridiculous for me to deal with and put my family as risk given it a KNOWN issue for Hyundai in their other vehicles.
Car Lost Power going up a hill. Generating codes P1326, P0455 and P0302
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Automatic transmission failed two times. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Vehicle stalled in the middle of the road while driving which put me and my family in a very dangerous situation Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes, inspected by dealer and extended warranty Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? None, Tranmission failed without any warnings or check engine lights.
Background Info : On November 28th, 2023 I filed a case with Hyundai Consumer Affairs due to smoke and sparks coming from my 2016 HYUNDAI SONATA engine. I was assigned to a Case Coordinator Carla who did not provide her last name at telephone 714-694-4963. She was my contact person for the repair. I signed a tow authorization on November 28th , 2023 authorizing HMA to tow the vehicle to the nearest Hyundai dealership due to some delays in coordination on behalf on my contact Carla and the dealership Pohanka Hyundai received my vehicle on approximately December 4th, 2023. Per correspondence from Carla she had contacted the dealership with no response until the 18th of December 2023; approximately two weeks after the dealership received my vehicle. She informed me that she had made countless attempts to reach a service team member for follow up on an inspection. On December 18th...
I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata that has had repeated engine issues including stalling overheating and shutting off. The car engine also caught on Fire on [XXX} and was reported to Hyundai Consumer affairs where a case was opened. The car was in the dealership for repair until [XXX] I have a warranty that the dealership or Hyundai did not honor for the engine, power train. The services that were repaired was a replacement of a engine piece which is Continuously Variable Valve Timing) System which controls the controls the open & close timing of intake valve to improve engine performance. On approximately [XXX] 3 days after picking the car up which I had to incur the cost of the repair as Hyundai did not honor my warranty the engine as well as oil light came on The car repair included transmission oil flush and engine oil replacement per the...
INTAKE CAMSHAFT CVVT COVER AND SENSOR INTAKE CAMSHAFT CVVT OIL PLUG PLUG Exhaust Manifold I am up to date on all me oil changes and everytime I get and oil change the oil goes so fast! This has actually been happening ever since I got the vehicle. My acceleration has been decreasing when I get an oil change.
I am having electrical issues with my 2016 Hyundai Sonata plus the other recalls. It started as issues with the lights on the driver side. I have replaced several bulbs and the entire light even and still have issues with the lights working properly. Now the issue is the battery, alternator or the starter. The starter had to be replaced as I was advised by Hyundai dealership when my engine had to be replaced, per recall. I had to purchase a starter, that was three times the amount at the dealership because the one that is manufactured in the auto stores is not correct, so it should not be the starter as it is only 1 to 2 years old. I have had the alternator replaced as well as 2 batteries and I’m still having issues. It cut off completely while driving on more than 1 occasion. There was no...
I keep having the same issue with this vehicle's fuel/propulsion system, power train, engine, cruise control. This vehicle is need it's fuel system cleaned now for a 3rd time in less then 2 years. I have done the high mileage maintenance on it as well. I drive the vehicle less than 5,000 miles a year. When I am driving the vehicle, it struggles to speed up, making me press on the gas repeatedly to get to the indicated speed limit. The vehicle does not slow down as it should when pressing on the brakes. I have to press repeatedly over and over and harder on the brakes in order for it to slow down. The vehicle jerks, speeds up without me pressing on the gas and sometimes it will not stop when prompted. I cannot put this vehicle on cruise control, because it speeds up and out of no where,...
The paint on the vehicle is peeling. It started on the roof and has progressed to the hood, frond fenders, and trunk. Because I am not the first owner, Hyundai will not not cover repairs. On 23 Aug 2023 I also had to replace the transmission at 115,416 miles. Again, Hyundai refused to cover any repairs.
My vehicle is experiencing high oil consumption. An oil light came on for about a second and went out. When I returned home, I checked the oil, and it was empty. We have our oil changed at our dealership everyou 3000-3500 miles. The next time frame, I checked the oil regularly and noticed it was getting low very quickly. When we returned to the dealership we were put on a 1000 mile oil consumption test, then the next time had a combustion chamber cleanse, and then returned at another 1000 miles and the dealership disputed the amount of used oil, and told us if there were additional issues we would need to start over. It continues to burn unusually high, but we are monitoring it. Hyundai says their threshold is a quart every 1000 miles.
We have a Hyundai sonata that has been burning oil since 56,000 miles and has failed 5 oil consumption tests.the car is unsafe to drive. It stalls on highway and around town. It just stops running and leaves us stranded. The car now burns 4 quarts of oil every 1,000. We have to put oil in the car every week. The plugs fowl about every 4,000. . Car goes into stall or safe mode. We are afraid to drive the car and it's our only form of transportation. Hyundai just laughed at us. We have all maintenance records and still they won't fix the vehicle. We need help. The care is unsafe to drive because it stalls in traffic and we have almost been hit in the rear many times. This company made bad and defective motors yet our government refuses to protect us.
I purchased a 2016 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L with the Theta II engine back in December 2016. I purchased it as a Hyundai Certified Pre-owned (CPO) vehicle, with the 10 year, 100,000 mi powertrain warranty. The car had approximately 36,000 mi on the odometer. Starting at about 60,000 mi on the odometer, I began to notice excessive engine oil consumption. The factory has made attempts to remedy the issue under the 10 year, 100,000 powertrain warranty coverage, but none have lasted more than 1,000 mi. After 1,000 mi of a "repair" service, the engine is back to consuming lots of engine oil. As a result, I have resorted to checking the dip every time I fuel up, and top off engine oil as it gets consumed. To my estimate, my oil consumption is between 200 to 300 mi per qt of oil consumed, which is well in excess of the factory...
Knock Sensor, ECM, Engine stalling and loss of connection. Resulting in flashing engine light. Low acceleration. Power reduced to 40 and below Engine misfire.
Burns oil at an extraordinary rate. Takes about 1-2 quarts every week. No leaks, I’m unsure what the cause is for the oil burning so fast but it’s not leaking because I’ve gotten it checked for leaks and there is not oil stains or puddles when the vehicle is parked.
The engine light has come on and I have done extensive repairs on my vehicle since January 2022. No warning signs showed prior as I have kept up with maintenance on the car since the 60,000 mile marker. The valve gasket cover was replaced as the engine was smoking due to an oil leak. A pipe was repaired due to the leak. The engine camshaft position sensor was replaced. There is still issues with the engine after replacing the CVVT cover and plugs. The spark plugs have been replaced. If my car stalls or blows on the highway, this can cause a major accident putting myself and others at risk. I have done multiple tests with Hyundai dealerships and Firestone and AutoZone and no one can tell me what the ultimate issue is with the Sonata.
Car shut off on me twice as i driving. Once along time ago but again just October 18th while I was driving on the highway I know hyndai has a class action lawsuit against them but the fact it shut off on me twice and the first time the issue accrued I took it to Fairfax Hyundai and they weren’t phased at all and didn’t even bother to check/diagnose my car because I didn’t have a check engine light illumination at the time of incident ;because they were backed up with cars but a huge safety concern, and they just simply let me leave the shop and didn’t advise me to be safe/careful. I want to bring this to your attention because I have no voice and if anything could be taken from this is that I could’ve crashed and caused an accident the first time this ever happened because...
My vehicle lost power exiting the freeway. I went from 70 miles an hour to 10 miles per hour in a matter of seconds. The Check Hybrid system, Turn off engine HEV ! triangle showed up on the dash, then the car slowed to a halt. I had to get my vehicle towed home, then towed to the dealer the next day. The problem with this is, for the past year, the Check Hybrid System HEV light would come on. I took it to the World Car Hyundai North dealership in Live Oak, Texas and a few months later, it's doing the same thing. My vehicle was in the shop at World Car Hyundai from March 24, 2022 until 9/9/2022. I drove my vehicle one week, went out of the country for 2 weeks and upon return, coming from the airport almost home, the car does the same thing. You...
Oil Consumption Test Failed, I was originally told if I could prove it was burning oil and not leaking then I would receive a new engine. New engine rejected saying Hyundai no longer warranty engines for that reason. Was told that when motor seized to have it reevaluated for bearing or rod failure. No way to determine bearing or rod was cause of oil consumption without tearing the motor apart. Knocking noise from engine and experienced Engine Failure, resulted in being stranded in middle of highway with my kids 1 yr after oil consumption test. Hyundai rejecting engine replacement due to low compression from cylinders. Not willing to honor their warranty after an obvious lemon of a motor.
I assuming it’s my knock sensor and hopefully the harness or anything doesn’t have to be replaced but my car went go pass 60mph and when I first get up to 16-20mph it jerks then gains a bit of power and also my check engine light came on
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, he became aware of smoke coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The contact veered to the side of the road and exited the vehicle. The TPMS, oil pressure, power train, and battery warning lights along with an unknown warning light were illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. Upon opening the hood to inspect the vehicle, the contact noticed that oil was leaking onto the ground. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced, the transmission needed to be flushed, and the drivebelt needed to be replaced. The dealer also diagnosed that the failure was associated NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V749000 (Exterior Lighting, Electrical System). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance....
On Tuesday February 1st 2022, I was driving home from work on the interstate doing 70mph when my engine shut off. There was no warning lights ...nothing. By the grace of God I was able to pull over on the right shoulder without getting in an accident. That was TOTALLY unacceptable! Scared me to death! Come to find out the the engine blew! I babied this car which only had 104,000 miles. Hyundai knows about this problem and have done nothing to help compensate the owners of these . I have five kids and it is going to cost me 6,000 dollars for another engine. That cost includes labor as well. If you ever wanted to fight for the little guy, now is the time! Thank you in advance!
Oil light came on when vehicle was almost out of oil. Engine could have seized Dealer says it is out of warranty because I am 2nd owner. 100,000 power train warrenty defaults to 60,000 for 2nd owner. Problem occurred just under 70,000. Warning oil light came on for the first time ever at 69,000 miles. Came on again after getting an oil change at 3,000 miles. Took 3 quarts to fill back to full. Engine now burns oil and must be refilled with nearly 2 quarts every 1000 miles.
Car unexpectedly stopped working and became disabled while trveling 40 - 50 mph on the freeway. Complete loss of power. Danger of a collision on the freeway. All dash lights and warning lights came on. Car would not shift and would not accelerate. It was unsafe to drive and could hardly move off the road. The first year I had the car the engine light came on and loss of power. I took it to the dealership immediately. Whenever I took the car to the dealer they said there were no codes and the car was was fine. The entire time I owned the car I would lose power on inclined roads and engine light would come on and off. Last week November 18 the car stalled and could not drive uphill again risk of a collision from the rear. I took the car to the dealer they said the...
The engine keeps stalling and the engine light is flashing. The engine burns oil every 1,000 miles and the oil light will illuminate and go away. The dealership has said they fixed the issue but the issue keeps arising with no resolution. This issues is known for all Hyundai's and they are not doing anything about it. My car has stalled out on highways and I don't feel comfortable driving it out of the state.
WHILE DRIVING CAR LOSES POWER, FOOT IS ON THE GAS CAR WILL NOT MOVE. THEN JERKS. CAR IS IN REVERSE AND IT STILL MOVES FORWARD
AT ABOUT 75,000 MILES MY 2016 SONATA LIMITED 2.4L STARTED NEEDING OIL ADDED BETWEEN REGULAR OIL CHANGES (ALL MILEAGE AND MAINTENANCE BY ONE DRIVER). THE VEHICLE IS NOW 85,000 MILES AND I AM ADDING 2 QTS. THERE ARE NO LEAKS FROM THE ENGINE SO IT MUST BE BURNING THROUGH THE EXHAUST, WHICH CAN'T BE GOOD FOR THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM AND ANY FUTURE SMOG CHECK - OR THE ENVIRONMENT. THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON WHEN THE OIL IS LOW. THIS COULD RESULT IN CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE ALSO EXPERIENCES ENGINE KNOCKING AND HESITATING WHEN ACCELERATING FROM 30MPH. THIS HAS BEEN A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, WHICH IS ALMOST ALL OF MY DRIVING.
CAR ENGINE WILL REV UP AT LOW SPEEDS (30 MILES AND UNDER) AND GET STUCK. I HAVE TO PRESS THE BRAKE AND HOLD IT DOWN, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND HIT GAS PEDAL TO GET IT TO GO INTO LOWER GEAR. HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE TOLD THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPT ABOUT IT A FEW TIMES BUT THEY CANNOT REPAIR IT BECAUSE THEY CANNOT SIMULATE IT HAPPENING. FIRST HAPPENED APPROX. 2 YEARS AGO; DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. BUT NOW IT IS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN. 4 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. MOST RECENT TIME WAS 1/11/21.
WHEN ACCELERATING THERE IS A TICKING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A WHILE AFTER I GOT THE UPDATE AND NEW WIRING HARNESS FROM THE CAMPAIGN. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR, I ACCELERATE SLOWLY BECAUSE I GET NERVOUS IT WILL BLOW UP. I TOOK THIS CAR TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND THEY QUOTED ME OVER 500 DOLLARS FOR THIS REPAIR AND IT MIGHT NOT EVEN FIX IT.
CAR RUNS OUT OF OIL WELL BEFORE 2000 MILES/2 MONTHS. WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR IS SLUGGISH THE ENGINE IS TICKING AND FEELS LIKE THE ENGINE IS GOING TO SEIZE, NO MATTER IF THE CAR IS MOVING 5MPH OR 70 MPH.
CAR STOPPED GOING INTO REVERSE, WAS TOLD THAT IT NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH ACTUATOR, BUT NEW ACTUATOR WOULD NOT WORK IN CAR SO THEY REPROGRAMMED IT AND PUT OLD ONE BACK IN CAR, 500 MILES LATER CAR IS DOING SAME THING AGAIN WITH NOT WORKING IN REVERSE!
ENGINE IS USING 3 QUARTS OF OIL PER 2,000 MILES AND TRANSMISSION KEEPS HAVE SHIFTING PROBLEMS THAT THEY JUST KEEP REPROGRAMMING IT TO FIX, ENGINE STALLS.
AFTER A PERIOD OF DRIVING, WHICH IS RANDOM AT BEST, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL APPEAR AND THE VEHICLE WILL START TO SHUDDER AND LOSE ITS ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND HAPPENS BOTH ON THE FREEWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS, AS WELL AS ON CITY STREETS IN LOW SPEEDS. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS TO STOP IS TRY AND GET TO A SAFE SPACE OF THE ROAD AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. IT IS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FREEWAY TRAFFIC AND IN MOUNTAIN PASSES AS YOU LOSE THE ABILITY TO MAINTAIN SPEED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THIS COULD VERY EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON 7 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS OVER THE PAST 2 MONTHS AT RANDOM TIMES.
MY VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE A TRANSMISSION ISSUE. I HAVE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES AND THEY CONFIRMED THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND TOLD ME THE CALL THE MANUFACTURER TO GET AN APPROVAL. ITS BEEN 3 MONTHS AND STILL NO ANSWER, WHEN I CALLED THEM THEY OPENED A CASE # 16722184 AND SPEAKING TO A WOMAN NAMED ANGIE. SHE SAYS SHES WAITING TO BE APPROVED. SHE CONFIRMED WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THAT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN DORAL FLORIDA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED, JERKED, AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. ALSO, THERE WAS AN ABNORNAL BURNING ODOR AND A TICKING NOISE WAS DETECTED. FURTHERMORE, THE MAINTENANCE WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SOUTHTOWNE HYUNDAI (7665 HIGHWAY 85 SOUTH, RIVERDALE, GA 30274, (770) 471-1000), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2016 HYUNDAI SONATA ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, WITH A SEMI-TRUCK BEARING DOWN ON ME. AS I ACCELERATED SO I COULD PASS THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, AND GET OUT OF THE WAY OF THE SEMI-TRUCK, MY CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION (AT ABOUT 4000 RPMS) AND WOULD NOT GO AT ALL, IN FACT IT STARTED SLOWING DOWN. I LET OFF THE GAS, BECAUSE IT WASN'T DOING ANY GOOD, AND AS THE RPMS WENT DOWN, TO ABOUT 2000 RPMS, MY CAR SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 55MPH BEFORE I COULD GIVE IT GAS AGAIN AND GET IT BACK UP TO THE SPEED OF ALL THE OTHER TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE. THERE WAS NO OTHER WARNINGS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. IT WAS A VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS SITUATION. LUCKILY, THE SEMI-TRUCK WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN BEFORE IT HIT ME. THE NEXT DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT...
CAR HESITATES ON ACCELERATION ON AN INCONSISTENT BASIS. THE RPMS INCREASE QUITE A BIT BEFORE THE CAR ACCELERATES. USUALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS OR AFTER STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. CAR HAS DUAL-CLUTCH TRANSMISSION THAT IS PART OF CLASS ACTION SUIT.
YESTERDAY EVENING 14OCT2019 VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO POWER UP, HYBRID SYSTEM HEV WARNING LIGHT WENT ON AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TRIED SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET THE CAR GOING. FINALLY GOT IT GOING. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS 15OCT2019.
CAR SHAKES ERRATICALLY WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND HAS NO POWER AFTER HITTING ACCELERATOR. IT STRUGGLES TO GET ANY POWER TO GET GOING AFTER BEING STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. GEAR CHANGES GET STUCK AND I HAVE LITERALLY BEEN STUCK IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION WHILE DOING A LEGAL U-TURN IN A BUSY BUSY LA INTERSECTION WITH MY 10YR OLD IN THE BACK SEAT AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUT OF THE SITUATION WAS TO TURN CAR OFF AND TURN ON AGAIN WHICH POSES A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR BOTH MY DAUGHTER AND MYSELF. TOOK CAR IN TO SERVICE LAST WEEK AND THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED ISSUE BUT ONE WEEK LATER HERE WE ARE WITH SAME PROBLEM. SERVICE TOLD ME IT LOOKS LIKE SOLENOID IS GOING OUT. WHICH SEEMS STRANGE FOR A 2016 CAR WITH ONLY 27,000. SO IF THIS WAS THE CASE WHY NOT CHANGE IT BEFORE IT WAS SOLD...
I WENT INTO THE DEALER TO GET AN OIL CHANGE ON 3/14/2019. THE DEALER CHOSE TO DO A FACTORY RECALL 50HYZ. SOON AS I LEFT THE DEALER MY CAR STARTED STALLING ON 495 NORTH TOWARDS TYSON CORNER IN VIRGINIA, JERKING AND LOST DRIVETRAIN POWER. I COULD GET TO 60MPH AND THE CAR WOULDN'T RESPOND AFTER THAT. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER. I WAS TOLD THE SOFTWARE UPDATED BRICKED MY SONATA. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY WILL ORDER THE PART AND WILL COME IN 3/21/2019 WHICH IS TODAY. ONLY TO GET A CALL SAYING THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER INTO MAY. MY QUESTION IS WHY ISN'T HOLDING HYUNDAI ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS? MY CAR ISN'T THE FIRST ONE TO GET THIS SOFTWARE UPDATE SO IF HYUNDAI KNOWS THIS SOFTWARE IS GOING TO BRINK PEOPLES CAR HOW IN THE HELL ARE THEY ALLOWED TO KEEP DOING THIS RECALL WHEN...
ENGINE IS MAKING WEIRD RATTLING SOUND ON ACCELERATION AND BURNING OIL TOO MUCH. PRIOR TO 3000 MILES OIL CHANGE, CHECKED DIP STICK AND INDICATED NO OIL. LOW OIL ON DASHBOARD DID NOT CAME ON. BELIEVED THAT THE ENGINE CONSUMPTION IS OUT OF LIMIT. ROUGH IDLE AND ACCELERATION HESITATION WAS NOTICE.
WHEN I DRIVE MY SONATA, SOMETIMES THE GEARS DO NO SWITCH. I CAN DRIVE ON A FLAT OR INCLINED SURFACE AND IT WILL ACT UP. WE'VE TAKEN OUR CAR SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING TO SEE WHAT'S GOING ON. BUT WHEN THE CAR IS CONNECTED OR THE SERVICEMAN DRIVES THE CAR, THE CAR WILL SWITCH GEARS AND NOTHING IS FOUND ON THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. WE CURRENTLY DRIVING A FEW STATES OVER AND OUR CAR IS NOT SWITCHING GEARS AT TIMES, AFFECTING THE GAS MILEAGE. MY HUSBAND AND I WILL DECELERATE UNTIL GEARS SWITCH AND THEN ACCELERATE AGAIN.
AFTER A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE STALLED OUT. ATTEMPTED TO RESTART AND ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT IT STARTED AND AS I ACCELERATED IT STATED TO BUCK AS THE TRANSMISSION MADE SOUNDS WHILE THE GEARS WERE STRUGGLED TO CHANGE. AS I GAVE IT MORE GAS THEY SLOWLY RECOVERED OVER THE NEXT MILE. TOOK IT IN FOR A CHECK TO HYUNDAI ON 8/29/18. CHECKED OUT OK WITH NO REASON.
