My vehicle just reached 101,000 miles and is having engine problems, vehicle will not accelerate past 40mph which is really unsafe, I saw a article that this was a common issue on the 2017 model.
Vehicle started on it's own without key fob triggering the alarming system to turn on. They only way to turn both off was to disconnect the battery.
I was driving home climbing a hill in the slight rain when the check engine light came on. I drove with the light on to get to the next closest city about 2 minutes out from where the light came on. The engine was running rough and shaking the car and was having issues stopping at a light before I could pull into a parking lot. I pulled into the parking lot, my book said that it was a misfire and to let the engine cool off so I sat for about 2 hours, checked fluids then started the car. the ticking noise was there but there were no lights on my dash at the time and assumed it could make it home after I let it idle for 5 minutes. I proceeded to get on the road and the vehicle did ok. I got on the freeway to get...
So I complained before and nothing has happened. I took my Ridgeline in for the recall on the backup camera and my camera still flickers or goes out. Happens randomly not all the time. I brought it up twice to the Honda dealership and they couldn’t help me since it was working fine when I brought it in. And my transmission since 20k miles still lags and jutters and makes clanking sounds. I have done multiple transmissions fluid changes like recommended but I don’t trust it. And only the first time they covered it and did a software update but that didn’t fix it then my warranty expired and they wanted to charge me for any repairs after. I have had this issue since I bought the Ridgeline. Not even 100k miles and I can’t trust it to drive more than an hour. This been happening for years and I...
My truck often clicks inside the cabin, the dashboard flashes on/off, the horn honks, outside lights flicker, and it has drained the battery three times. I cannot lock my truck in fear that it will not open. I've been places where they've asked me to move my vehicle due to this problem causing a disturbance. I've purchased 3 batteries in 7 years and have been stranded each time. I see that this problem has been reported several times by other affected honda ridgeline truck owners. It should become a safety recall due to these disturbing incidents as well as leaving people stranded with drained batteries because of the electrical problem.
The Stop/Start button does not start or stop the engine when pushed. Honda has an "extended warranty" but will only honor the warranty "if a code has been set" regardless of the error messages displayed on the dash or the failure of the button to function While an extended warranty is of some value, in my opinion, the failure of the "Stop" button to stop the engine immediately when required (which happens frequently) creates a safety hazard and should result in a recall rather than simply an extended warranty, which has limitations of time and mileage in addition to the "circumstances" (i.e. the "trouble code must be present")
The backup camera on my Honda Ridgeline was repaired under a recall but is now defective again. I hope Honda will investigate the previous recall repairs and issue another fix in the future.
My incident is related to Keyless system problem, it is drained out the battery and I can't be able start on my pickup. Because it is turn on and off the instrumental panel several times until the battery is drained out of power. This Keyless system, shouldn't affect the battery, because his function is only for turn on the vehicle. I never thought this kind of new turn on system buttons.
My 2017 Ridgeline had clicking noises in the dash and the interior lights were flickering, truck was in the garage at home. I was able to start the truck and move it outside. I was afraid it may be a short and start a fire. Upon turning off truck it started making the noises again and interior lights flickering. I took it to Honda the next day and after two days they claimed they couldn't figure it out but charged me to disconnect my after market amp and labor for diagnostic. Two days later the issue persisted. I called Honda again and brought it in, this time there was a code to read. The code was "keyless start system problem" so they ordered the module to fix it but explained that it was on backorder and there was no ETA on when I'd get the part. A few weeks later...
The factory radio with a 5” display in my 2017 Honda Ridgeline is having multiple issues. 1: Freezing up 2: The unit will restart multiple times while driving 3: Sometimes the unit will display a black screen but still function in the background. I thought these issues would go away after I had my local dealership perform the most recent backup camera recall repair.
Wireless Control Module left me stranded when it stopped working not allowing me to start my car. According to the dealership, they are seeing this issue and more striking is the amount of complaints online nationwide regarding 2016-18 Honda Pilots, which I only assume to be the same module as the Ridgeline. Had to tow my car three times in 2 days because only the dealership can fix this problem. I feel I needed to report just in case there were others that did, because this seems like it should be a recall item. It is currently at the dealership waiting for parts. Thank you for your time.
Backup camera is inoperable. The radio will freeze up, shut itself off or reboot itself. I tried to get the necessary recall repaired through my local dealership but they tell me it cannot be done at the present time.
MY 2017 HONDA RIDGELINE's backup camera is not working. Screen its totally BLACK. I can not see to the rear in the camera.
This is a problematic issue for many Honda Ridgeline owner. The the instrument panel light flicker when the car is park and alarm will sound for no particular reason. when this happen, sometime I am not able to start the car. (if possible please below link) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DClnLAj7G8I I wonder what would happen if this issue happen while the vehicle is in motion. I spoke to Honda and notify them about this issue. Note: base on my research, this problem started to occur when the mileage reach between 35,0000 to 45,000 miles and not just 2017 Ridgeline. There other manufacture years are having the similar issue.
I am writing in regards to our 2017 Honda Ridgeline. We have purchased 6 Honda vehicles over the years from Shockley Honda in Frederick Maryland, and this is our second Ridgeline. However our truck has been in the shop for almost a month and we do not know when it can be repaired. On April 29th at 4:30 AM our alarm system repeatedly went off. We got it to the dealership to learn that we would need to replace the Body Control Module However this part is on national backorder with no estimated date of delivery. We are currently without a vehicle which has been an extreme inconvenience. We have researched this problem and we have learned that this is a common problem and has happened numerous times in the 2017-2022 Honda Ridgelines. I do not understand how your large Company has not identified this as a major problem and...
The vehicle alarm will go off intermittently, when parked. I have to keep the vehicle unlocked, which is extremely unsafe since it is in my driveway. You cannot replicate this since you do not know when it will happen. I travel a lot, and when I left the vehicle at the airport the alarm ran down my battery and I had to have it jumped. Now I cannot lock my vehicle when parked at the airport. I took it in to get it checked out and they said they found an error code identifying the control unit issue. I paid for the part, which was to be ordered and that was over a month ago. I called to check on the part, and they said there were over 250 in line ahead of me for this part. If there are that many folks waiting for this control unit part, there...
Issues with overall dash system. If truck is locked and off the truck will continuously attempt to start and will set the alarm off. Have been unable to leave the truck locked for a year now due to this issue. This has also transitioned into most of the safety features no longer working.
Dash lights flickering, clicking sounds coming from under dash and inside hood, alarm keeps going off intermittently. This vehicle has less than 100K miles
Keyless start system error: Vehicle displayed a warning with this message. I had the vehicle battery changed and the warning code went away. A month later the same warning code returned. In reviewing blogs, others say it is most likely the keyless start button gone bad. Honda fix is reported to be $400. Worried that the vehicle could lose power while moving or not be able to start in an environment that my safety could be jeopardized. Many blog entries from others with this same problem with 2017 Honda Ridgelines.
At 90,300 miles my backup camera stopped working. When I put the transmission in Reverse, the display just shows a black screen instead of an image of what is behind my truck. Upon visual inspection I can see that the wires at the tailgate have become frayed/broken.
Broken wire(s) from the truck body to tailgate. Backup camera fails to work, making it extremely dangerous backing up truck. Honda dealer found the broken wires and quoted $498.00 to correct the problem. The camera start shorting out intermittently in Fall of 2021. Continuously started failing in May, 2022. No warning lights come on to warn of failure of camera. The camera just fails to turn on when backing up. This also puts people walking behind vehicle in danger when truck is backing up.
According to research, a known failure for years. Back-up camera wiring harness failed approximately 1 year ago. Camera inoperable. Hazard to occupants, and other people & vehicles near Ridgeline. Vehicle available for inspection. Dealer wanted approx. $150 to diagnose; stated $600+- if faulty camera, $1200+- if wiring harness (part prices only, no labor). Dealer further stated a recall has yet to be issued for this safety problem.
Backup camera has failed. Wiring is frayed at tailgate
Wiring harness faulty that supplies the rear backup camera in the tailgate. due to the opening and closing of the tailgate the wires fray and split. Can confirm this is the issue through visual inspection. This issue needs to be addressed for all ridgeline models
Back-up camera black screen due to tailgate wiring harness failure.
Ridgeline backup camera wire harness gets pinched/cut from tailgate. Many others reported but no recall. Paid $472.19 to repair. 2017-2019 have reported same issue
My incident is related to the Keyless Module Part #0 38320-T6Z-A31, My pick up was parked outside in my work parking lot. It started the alarm making sounds, my coworkers let me know it,I just went to take look check it and I just turned off the alarm and set it on again, after that the car started do it again after 5 minutes, and it was a nightmare because after several times, I tried to disable the alarm in the touch screen panel, but it doesn't have any control I was available to disable it, I was seating in my car, and I noticed the instrumental panel started to turn on and off,it was like my car tried to turn on the engine by itself for several times, and making really scared noise like is going to have a electrical short cut, I was worried it can cause making...
The wiring to the backup camera is failing because it is crimped between the tailgate and the body. Every time you open and close the tailgate the wire flexes wearing at the sheathing and flexing the wires within. I've seen multiple reports and videos of this harness and the wires within failing which causes a short and the backup camera to fall.
This 2017 Honda Ridgeline, at present, has 47430 miles of operation. I am the third owner having purchased on 12DEC2020 w/38990 miles. The instrument panel has been plagued by faulty warning symbols for most of my ownership. The problem now has grown to the point where I can't find any maintenance displays. Also, only one screen is visible showing operational information. I am not alone in this safety issue.
Backup Camera Stopped working. Wiring harness to tailgate is frayed.
My backup camera stopped working on April 16. I investigated and found the wiring harness is snapped at the tailgate. Upon a google search I realized this is a known issue and wanted to file my complaint to hopefully get this issue resolved.
When reversing, I've had several instances over the past several years where the backup screen just went to black (Head unit displays black, with the guide marks.) i figured it was a software issue. However, when the back-up camera ceased working I googled the issue with "2017 Honda Ridge-line and backup camera" and found that severed wires at the tailgate left corner hinge area is a common issue. I found the harness broken at the pivot point of tailgate. (Left bottom corner of tailgate)Tailgate wiring exposed in hinge. Plastic cover has split/separated. I am a sixty-three year old female so I'm not using the tailgate/truck bed very much. I took it to the dealership (04/12/22); they told me they have not had any reported instances of this issue and then requested how I broke the harness! They quoted me a price to purchase/replace the harness; however, since this seems to...
Rear camera not working. Defect in tailgate harness
rear camera stopped working.. cannot back up as safe as when camera worked dealer confirmed problem no other inspection no warning prior to failure October 2021
Tailgate backup camera harness failed. Wires severed.
Rear back up camera is failing, camera view is going in and out. Upon inspection of the rear tailgate it is clear the wiring going from the main body of the truck to the tailgate is exposed from the plastic casing and some of the wires are breaking themselves causing the malfunction. This truck only has ~43k miles on it and the tailgate gets used semi-frequently, by no means is it used excessively. It is ridiculous that such an important piece of safety equipment would not be better made to withstand the normal wear and tear of use and fail at such low mileage. This failure has caused a massive blind spot when reversing and could put pedestrians or other vehicles in harms way. No I have not taken this into the manufacturer nor has it been confirmed by the dealer. No warning lights have gone off, the only way...
Power train PCM failure caused gauge cluster to become unresponsive. While the truck was idling while connecting a trailer the gauge cluster went blank. I then attempted to shut down and restart the truck and it would not start leaving me stranded. While I did eventually get it started by replacing several fuses once it was running it had no turn signals and had an error message for the emissions system. Ended up taking to dealership and was told the PCM had failed. Truck was 49 months old and had 45k miles.
After arriving home and turning off the vehicle, there was a lot of flickering of the lights and clicking noises in the engine. The dash displayed all emergency startup lights and performed the following message on the dash, "Keyless Start System Error." I took it to the dealer who ran a diagnostic, and provided me the diagnostic paperwork showing 4 codes in the Security, Power Control Unit, Mode Menu, Lighting, Keyless Transmitter, Gauges, and door locks. The dealer confirmed that this was in no relation to the recent recall of the Ridgeline Keyless Start System Error with DTC B12C5 and that the Keyless System Main Control Unit failed, part number 38320-T6Z-A21. I had to replace the unit and am now out of pocket quite a bit of money. I have reported the issue to Honda directly and hoping a refund will be provided. I am the original owner of this...
2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E, keyless entry module wasn't working properly so I had to buy a new one. I was told about the issue when I took my Honda Ridgeline to the Honda dealership for my oil change. The entry control module is currently ordered but we don't know when it will come in. I also informed the service manager about my on/off switch not operating correctly. He informed me that it was on recall so it will repaired for free. I don't know why the keyless entry module wasn't repaired for free since I bought the used 2017 Honda Ridgeline with Honda's extended warranty. Currently I have no vehicle to use because Honda informed me that they don't currently have any because of the pandemic, currently no vehicles in their lot are able to loan to customers.
1. Reverse camera not operating because of wire harness conductor breakage at tailgate hinge point. 2. Reduced vision and blind spots when backing up. If this isn't a safety concern, what is? System stopped working at 3-years, 40K miles. Dealer told me issue not covered under warranty, wanted $700 for a repair of Honda's inferior harness design. Aside from the poor flex loop design, the quality of the conductors are insufficient for use in a flex application. My opinion is based on 31 years of designing robot wire harness's in high flex applications. I spent four hours splicing the harness back together, all the conductors in the harness were broken. 3. I exchanged several emails with service manager; I'll dig them out of backup data storage if needed. Service manager told me the Honda people he talked too did not see it as a warranty safety issue; $700. Once again...
Rear back up camera failed, due to tailgate wiring harness frayed due to normal use. Happened at about 45,000 miles.
My rear backup camera failed due to the wear on the wiring harness at the point where the two-way tailgate opens. This seems to be a common failure and my case was typical. My vehicle was out of warranty, and so I performed the repair myself, and improved the shielding at the pinch point.
The wiring to the backup camera on my 2017 Honda Ridgeline is a poor design. It bends too tightly and every time the two-way tailgate is opened or closed it work hardens the small gauge wiring until it breaks. Of course this happened just after the warranty expired. When checking with Miller Honda in Winchester, VA they told me they had never heard of this. If you go onto the Honda Ridgeline website this same problem is mentioned several times. I made a temporary repair to get it working again but it is unknown how long this will last.
Backup Camera not working and wiring harness near tailgate is broken. In reading other reviews this is a common safety problem on the 2017 Ridgeline.
The contact's wife owns a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that the AWD and battery fan warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where he was informed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and informed him that there were no recalls on his wife's vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V888000 (Electrical System) which he linked to the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The alarm system goes off at random times throughout the day, headlights stay on after the alarm activates, interior dash warning lights flicker and voltage fluctuates with sound. Happens if Key Fob is in my pocket or not. Events started in Oct 2019 and continued until Sep2020, when I unplugged the hood alarm activation switch. This disabled the alarm from going off at random times but didn't stop the dash warning lights from flickering and voltage fluctuating sounds. As of OCT 2021, now a slew of dash warning lights from "trailer assist, uphill assistant, lane assistant" plus many more have taken over my dash. At random times the brake assist will activate and cause my truck to temporarily lock up, then go back to normal. It appears to happen to be worse after heavy rains.
The wiring for the backup camera broke at a hinge point for the tailgate. The repeated opening and closing of the tailgate in normal operations caused the wire to fatigue and break.
WIRING FOR THE BACKUP CAMERA HAS BEEN PINCHED BY THE TAILGATE OPENING TO THE POINT OF BREAKING THE WIRES AND THE PROTECTIVE LOOM. BACKUP CAMERA NO LONGER WORKS.
THE REAR BACKUP CAMERA THAT IS USED EVERY SINGLE DAY HAS GONE COMPLETELY BLACK. THE WIRE HARNESS THAT RUNS FROM THE TRUCK TO THE TAILGATE HAVE SPLIT DUE TO OPENING AND CLOSING. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT IS NOT THE EASIEST TO FIX WHICH COSTS THE OWNERS. THIS WILL HAPPEN TO EVERY SINGLE 2017-2019 RIDGELINE. IT IS SIMPLY CAUSED BY OPENING AND CLOSING TAILGATE IN THE PARKED POSITION.
VEHICLE BEGAN TO DISPLAY WARNING LIGHTS: VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST (VSA) PROBLEM, EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM, ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM PROBLEM, POWER STEERING SYSTEM PROBLEM, HILL START ASSIST PROBLEM AND TRAILER STABILITY ASSIST PROBLEM (TSA.) CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON.
