Backup camara failure due to failure of wiring harness through tail gate.
Backup camera wiring harness has been pinched and broken by opening the tailgate resulting in the backup camera malfunction.
The back up camera stopped working. Can't detect any movement when backing up, ie, children, adults, pets etc. I have small grandchildren and this is a very big concern. Service scheduled for July 6, 2021. Work order stated broken wires due to corrosion, camera and wiring harness needed to be replaced. Manufacturer has been contacted.*JB No warning or message to alert us. It stopped working June24, 2021 From research on line, this is an issue on the 2017 Ridgeline. Wiring harness on tailgate wires are being broken due to location in the tailgate.
I own a 2017 Honda Ridgeline and am original owner. Couple of months ago my backup camera went black with only the yellow space image showing on the screen. Went to dealer and they said it was the camera. Made appointment for this repair for $391. After 2 hours they said it wasn't the camera and that the wiring harness in the tailgate was severed and to replace it was $1,641. I said no thanks. In researching online I guess it is a very common problem. You tend to rely on it. There was no warning that it was going to happen. I backed into another vehicle recently that I am sure I would not have had the camera worked. This is not a work truck. It is my daily driver. The back-up camera harness runs through the tailgate. Through repeated, normal wear and tear, this wires within the camera harness crack / split, requiring a repair of this harness.
