2014 Honda Accord Hybrid purchased new, completed all routine and recommended maintenance over its life. - The passenger side drive shaft failed on May 5, 2025, pulling into our driveway, and it fell out of the bottom of the car onto the pavement. - The driver’s side drive shaft failed on December 4, 2025, leaving a shopping center parking lot, and it fell out of the bottom of the car onto the pavement. Attached are photos of both driveshafts, which clearly show the similarities in the failures. I have the parts for the driver’s side in my possession and am happy to furnish them for analysis. These failures are catastrophic in that the vehicle was rendered undrivable with a loss of control without warning. This vehicle is used daily for highway commuting and had this failure occurred on the highway at 65 mph, I believe it would have caused a...
On 11/18/2025, while driving my 2014 Honda Accord 2.4L (VIN: [XXX] ), I experienced a sudden and dangerous safety failure. Without any warning, the steering became extremely hard and almost locked, making it nearly impossible to turn or control the vehicle. At the same moment, several warning indicators appeared on the dashboard, including: ABS warning VSA warning Brake System warning Because of this failure, the vehicle became unsafe to operate, and I was forced to stop. I could not continue driving due to the risk of losing control of the car. When I checked the recall information online, the system showed that my VIN has an active recall notification, but when I took my vehicle to the dealership (Victory Honda of Plymouth), they informed me that my specific issue is not covered under that recall, even though the symptoms match known ABS/VSA safety failures. The dealership stated that they will...
The steering sticks and the assisted steering goes on and off without warning making it dangerous driving. Almost caused a collision. Steering light comes on and off. It sounds like the recall of the steering issue found on other Honda accords for 2014 of other VINs.
Power Steering Failure on multiple occasions dating back to November of 2023. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk because the steering wheel would lock while car was in motion, at times while making a turn, preventing me from operating my vehicle safely. The problem has been confirmed by three independent service centers: Meineke, located at 9640 S Cicero Ave, Oak Lawn, IL; Reyes Auto Care, located at 9200 Kilpatrick Ave, Oak Lawn, IL; Highline Automotive, located at 11332 SW Hwy, Palos Hills, IL. Vehicle has been inspected by independent mechanics who all came to the conclusion of power steering issue, requiring system update or total replacement of gearbox and/or rack and pinion. Warning lights come on when issue starts. Has been ongoing since I acquired car in Nov of 2023
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the vehicle jerked and unexpectedly downshifted. The steering wheel warning light, check engine warning light, ABS, and TPS warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the high-pressure fuel pump had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact then took the vehicle to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact stated that the failure had occurred several years ago, and the steering wheel seized. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
Brake and power steering lights come on and off. Occasionally power steering malfunctions. The cause has been diagnosed as the abs module. I will have to get it rebuilt. The wiring is a known issue with Honda.
Power steering goes out during driving. In order for power steering to work again, you must pull over, shut off the car and restart it. It has mostly happen while we have been driving on straight highways and roads and luckily it hasnt happened during any curvy roads or turns. This is one of our main cars we use to drive around town and travel with for adults and children. We took it in to mechanic shop and was told it may be the ABS sensor and they are ordering parts to replace it to see if that fixes the problem. The FCW, check engine, and sliding lights have been turning on and off.
Vehicle drives fine but a week ago the steering, traction, ABS, & brake lights all lit up on my Accord's dashboard. Took car to our regular mechanic, who then conducted diagnostic testing. This in turn, indicated that the ABS control module is the cause. Steering, traction, & braking are quite vital in the safe manuerving of stopping & controlling a vehicle in motion. If unable to manageable do so, I, as well as many others are potentially at risk.
The ABS light is on. brake light is on Auto shop said I need a new ABS module. Also the power steering light is on.
When driving at low speeds, for example looking for parking in my work parking lot, my 2014 Honda accord coupe lost power steering. Steering wheel became heavy and hard to turn. The screens flickered on the radio and the car felt like a manual car when it stalls. With every turn of the wheel the car would try to shut off. No warning light came on the dash. There was a car behind me when it happened. Even though it was a parking lot, the car behind me almost rear ended me since the car started to try to shut off when i was making a turn into the parking spot and he/she did not expect my car to stop before i completed the turn. This just happened an hour ago and since i had to come in to work I haven't taken it for a diagnoses yet.
A random day the cars steering wheel light came on,the abs light came on,the tire pressure light came on,and the traction control light came on
ABS Control Module Solenoid Valve Malfunction
When I perform a parallel parking maneuver, I turn the steering wheel fully to the right or left and begin backing up slowly. As I reach the halfway point and attempt to turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction, it becomes stiff and difficult to move, as if it’s frozen.
What happened? While driving my 2014 Honda Accord, both the brake and steering warning lights suddenly illuminated. The steering became difficult, indicating a loss of power steering assist. I pulled over safely and discovered that the ABS light remained on. After towing the vehicle to a service center, the technician confirmed that the ABS pump/module had failed, which triggered both warning lights and caused a failure in the power steering system. This malfunction poses a serious safety risk, potentially leading to loss of braking efficiency and steering control. The failure was sudden, with no prior warning signs. The service center advised that the ABS module requires replacement. Legal Protections and Manufacturer Liability: As a consumer, I am protected under state lemon laws and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. These laws mandate that vehicles sold must be free from defects affecting safety and performance. The ABS pump/module failure directly compromises the vehicle’s...
While driving on the road at about 45 MPH the power steering locked and the vehicle pulled off the road. The dealer ship stated is a known issue with faulty steering motors but the vehicle is not on a recall. This is hazardous and potentially deadly situation to be in.
Multiple Lights on Dashboard: ABS, EPS, Parking Brake, VSA, TPMS. Lights were intermittent at first, then became permanent. Car still runs and drives fine but ABS and Traction Control do not function. Local Mechanic scanned for codes and found the following: 121-11 VSA Solenoid Valve Malfunction 81-20 Central Processing Unit internal circuit malfunction 85-01 VSA system malfunction Local Mechanic has seen this before and recommended replacement of the VSA Modulator Valve assembly (Part number 04571-T2F-L01). Repair has not been completed. Transmission died (CVT belt Broke) at around 195,000 miles and about 6 months after VSA system issue started. Unsure if the problems were related. Car now has a new Transmission.
While driving, the Electric Power Steering system stopped working and the EPS warning light came on. I had to forcefully steer the car to the shoulder with great difficulty and shut the car off. I sat on the shoulder for approximately 10 minutes, restarted the car, noted the steering appeared to be functioning properly and began to continue home only to have the same issue again within 2 minutes of pulling away from the shoulder of the road. I managed to forcibly steer the car back onto the shoulder of the road and called for a tow truck to take it to a shop and the family home. The ship advised there was no fault code found with their system tools and that the issue may be with the electronics on the car needing to be reviewed/updated/replaced by Honda. It is my understanding this is not an isolated incident and...
All kinds of failure on dashboards. Codes 81-19 and 81-20. Mechanic said there is a chance abs brakes and traction control isn't working. Said this is very common for my car and that I should take it directly to Honda.
In the dashboard, EPS (Electronic Power Steering), VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist), ABS (Anti Lock Brake system), and BRAKE lights would turn on and off Intermittently. The lights could turn on starting the car in the morning or after driven for some time, for short period of time - 15 minutes to long period of time - 60 minutes. When these lights are on initially, a clank could be typically heard. When driven and slowed to around 10 MPH, the high-to-low whine could be heard. At low speeds, the car jerks on deaccelearation and acceleration. The car may be difficult to drive smoothly at low speeds. OBDII reader found no fault codes. Reports of other cars with simillar problem indicate issue with ABS module, wheel speed sensor, and/or battery.
My vehicle is pulling and steering is getting hard and unable to control. I was driving my vehicle with my child when I steering wheel locked up and jerked the right almost causing me to side swipe another vehicle. This is a known issue with this year, make and model of Honda and it has not been recalled. Vehicle was inspected by a mechanic and deemed unsafe because of power steering failure
I have 2014 honda accord coupe. A days a go while driving local street my steering wheel lost control n vehicle stopped. On dash board it displayed sign with steering wheel n exclamation. When I reached thru honda manual it was the power steering torque sensor. This incident happened twice and both times as said in manual I turned off the car n it reseted itself. However I took it to my mechanic n he said that it's a power steering torque sensor failure. I read more online n there is a recall n extended Warrenty from Honda. Can you fix my car issue?
The ABS, VSA, EPS, and the parking brake systems began to appear on my dashboard. After diagnostics, it appeared that the VSA modulator was failing to provide all these components that are needed for safety in all driving conditions. After doing some research, I came to know that the modulator failure is very common in the Honda Accord models from year 2010 and above. Yet, Honda has yet to recall vehicles for this issue that affects the brake and steering systems. So far, the lights continuously appear and disappear. However, there is a huge difference when the intermittent lights appear. The car swerves too easily on rainy days when running through a puddle on the street. Even on windy days, sometimes it cannot handle when I am driving against the wind. The car's steering system feels too vulnerable and sensitive when these lights are on given that I have none...
On [XXX] just after dark I picked up the car at Detroit at the motel airport parking and proceeded north on [XXX] to [XXX] when I noticed the red battery signal on the dash. A warning notice said Check charging system. By the time I reached [XXX] the dash lights and power steering went out as well as all the lights and emergency flashers. I coasted up the ramp and through a red light and the car stopped blocking South bound [XXX] . I called 911 they got me a tow to Fisher Honda in Ypsilanti Mi. The failure of a Alternator was the cause . We were unable to warn other cars and protect our car. We were lucky. Was driving on highway and without warning the power steering system locked up and i was going 60 mph and almost lost control of my car. Yellow steering wheel with exclamation point light up on my dash board!
Power steering, and ABS light flash on at random. The vehicle sometimes veers off and steering is frequently very very loose or very very tight. Also, there is a whining that never stops when I turn the wheel all the way to the left or right, the vehicle almost shut off and the entire dash and radio shut off and back on. When I am at a stop or cars at idle everything will dim and car. Sounds like it’s almost going to die and then back to normal had looked at and they couldn’t find any noticeable issues.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the steering wheel was inoperable. The contact stated that the check engine warning light had been illuminated, and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the residence and parked. The contact stated that the warning lights remained illuminated and that the emergency brake appeared to be loose and made a clicking sound while enabled. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced at the dealer three weeks ago and it was diagnosed with a failed control module assembly. The control module assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 251,459.
ABS / VSA module failure
1. Im experiencing an ABS module failure (Honda calls it VSA module). 2. When the system messed up it causes my traction control and anti-lock brakes to turn off. 3. The problem has been reproduced as it keeps randomly turning all of the systems on and off randomly, multiple times during a single drive. 4. It has not been inspected by any of the people listed. 5. Nothing prior to the failure just all of a sudden my dashboard indicated that my electronic steering system, ABS, forward collision warning system, lane departure warning system, and tire pressure monitoring system all shut down. When the codes were read it all leads back to a failure in the ABS/VSA module. Reading articles online has shown me others that have had this issue has made me realize this is a very large number of vehicles affected and could cause great bodily harm or...
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while his daughter was driving at various speeds, the steering wheel inadvertently jerked to the right and became firm. The power steering warning light was illuminated. The contact's daughter was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated that his daughter turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the steering wheel operated as needed. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure also occurred while at a complete stop at a traffic light. The contact's daughter turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the steering wheel operated as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring more frequently. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that a fee would be charged for diagnostic test. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was diagnosed, but the cause of...
When the car warms up I get a total of four lights ABS the traction control the brake light and the steering control light comes on Also was told that the problem to fix it was the ABS pump and module which no one has in stock six months out to purchase
MY FCW SYSYTEM HAS FAILED. MY LDW , POWER STEERING , FCW , TIRE PRESSURE ARE ON THE DASH. HONDA KEEPS SAYING IT NEEDS A NEW VSA MODULE WHICH IS EXPENSIVE . MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED FOR 2013-2017 HONDA ACCORD MODELS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BY HONDA ASAP. THIS IS A HIGE SAFETY RISK.
I was making a left turn and my steering wheel locked up. I couldn't return the wheel right to straighten out. The car kept going left. I had to put my car in reverse and after some time the steering wheel unlocked while in reverse. I was on a busy street and almost caused an accident. I was on the right lane and it forced me into the left lane. The driver I cut off was able to brake just in time without hitting my car. No lights on dashboard. Not able to reproduce by dealership. Dealership scanned code 85-01 VSA system malfunction and is charging $3k to replace the VSA modulator part #04571-T2F-L11. No other symptoms prior. I have dashcam video as well [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Power steering system failed when starting the car. Steering wheel was jittery/jerky and was near impossible to turn it; it was very difficult to back it out of a parking space to get it towed. This happened once the service shop replaced a relay and the car was driven home without incident. However, the problem came back the next morning when we started the car again; it cannot be safely driven when the steering wheel starts acting up like this.
The power steering has gone out multiple times while driving down the road. It was replaced 20 days ago and less than 600 miles has been put on it and it went out again. My steering wheel locked up and I lost all control of the car. This put myself and others at risk because I have no use of the steering wheel when it goes out. The problem was reproduced and a new rack put on and in less than 600 miles it happened again. There were no warning signs or lights that appeared before it happened. They come on at the time the steering goes out.
I received a diagnosis from Honda Dealership today that my 2014 vehicle has a failed VSA Modulator which regulates brakes and all abs features. They stated it was only from wear and tear on my vehicle. I am only at 109,000 miles. They quoted me a price of $3000.00 to fix the problem and noted I could not pick up my car without signing a statement that I understood the problem and understood that my brakes would eventually fail without fixing the problem. I cannot currently afford to fix the problem or safely drive my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to become difficult to turn in either direction and nearly causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and drive into the opposite lane while oncoming traffic was approaching. The contact used an OBD reader and retrieved a code for the steering torque sensor. The contact was informed that the steering torque sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The power steering seemed to have gotten "stuck" in place or so it felt or seemed for a short time while driving. I have noticed that when I am turning the wheel that I can hear noise when turning as if it's not moving smoothly. If my power steering stops working while driving or gets stuck, then that could pose a serious problem to me and other drivers. The problem is daily now with the sound of every left or right turn. This component has not been inspected by anyone yet. There weren't any warnings.
I had several warning light appear on the dashboard, and the dealership said that my VSA modulator was starting to go bad. This device controls power steering, anti-lock brakes and other functions. While driving to the Honda service department, the brakes were very low and the steering was loose (dangerous conditions). After doing some research, I found that Honda recalled the VSA modulator on other models, but not for my 2014 Accord. Many other owners of the same model stated that their VSA modulators failed around 34k-36k miles (right at the end of warranty). I still have the original VSA modulator, the dealer just reset the warning lights and sent me on my way. I am writing to request an investigation for Honda to extend the VSA modulator recall to more models, such as the 2014 Accord.
The EPS on my 2014 Honda Accord EX-L did not perform its primary functions. Such as steering. The steering wheel became very difficult to move. The wheel was extremely stiff and vibrated at the slightest attempt to turn in either direction. I am grateful this did not happen while I was driving on the road.
In my 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid, the power steering light suddenly lit up while driving and the steering became stiff. It has been coming on and off for few months now. For 99% of the time the car runs normal, no issue, no dash light etc. I replaced the EPS unit at Honda dealer, it went away for a while, now it has come back again. It cam happen at any day of the week atleast 2 to 3 times a week. The steering goes stiff with light on, stays stiff for 30 seconds to sometimes over a minute on highway then it goes off on its own. It is a major safety risk on highway when suddenly the light comes on and steering goes stiff, it gets very hard to mauver or change lanes during this time until it goes off and returns to normal.
Driving normally , while the car is doing 30mph power steering light comes on and steering wheel locks and becomes hard to turn the wheel. Light will go off randomly and resume normal driving. Looks like it may be an electrical issue as I checked and this car is known for this problem. Last month, my driveshaft broke off and couldn't continue driving, this was a known recall and I went to get it fixed. I do not feel safe driving my car with this known problem and you all should request Honda to recall this issue.
The power steering system of the car (68000 miles on odometer) abruptly stopped working while pulling away from the curb at the airport. Car was turned off and restarted; the steering warning light which had appeared went away. Steering worked well for a couple of weeks when it failed again while driving 60 MPH on the interstate. This was very scary and dangerous to myself and other motorists! Fortunately I was able to steer across lanes to right berm and stop. Car was restarted and taken to service location. The steering warning light was cleared and we were told to take the car to a Honda dealer. Honda dealer had car for over a week but could not get steering to 'act up'. For approximately the next 11 months, steering would randomly go off without warning. This happened in parking situations and also while turning on city roads. Eventually steering...
When at low speeds especially when pulling into parking spot with wheel turned, wheel seems to stick, heat turns off and once parked, power steering makes squeaking noise. Has occurred multiple times. Realize there is already an investigation into this. Unsure what issue may be. Will likely take to Honda to ensure safe operation of vehicle.
Power steering randomly goes out while the vehicle is in motion, sometimes on the interstate at high speed. Honda has "fixed" this 4 times and still has issues. Turning the car off and back on temporarily resolves the issue.
Car occasionally experiences unintended acceleration. This happening today 9/4/2022. Car was brought to a complete stop. It suddenly accelerated while the foot was still on the brake, causing it to rear-end the car in front. Thankfully there no physical injuries reported (yet) We had experienced this a couple of time before. I had contact Honda as well as the local dealer and they cleared the car with no changes.
Replaced VSA modulator at 100k, drove for 7 months, steering locked up as I was driving down highway. I was able to control and took to dealership where they said VSA modulator needed to be replaced again. Additionally, starter went out at 168k. Not the quality we expect from Honda.
The power steering stops working and the display on the screen goes blank leaving you with no power steering momentarily to steer the vehicle. Putting the driver and other at risk because you don’t have full control of the vehicle. In my situation after the vehicle seems to shut off jerking the steering wheel in your hands then it restarts again on it own. I’m in the process of scheduling a appointment with a repair shop for diagnosis. I did not notice any warning lamps, not to say there weren’t any it’s that I didn’t notice them.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Computer System Firmware, available for inspection, currently at dealership. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Multiple dashboard functions not functioning at random. Appears related to a firmware update provided under another recall (Bulletin 15-055:6ZS00EPS Software Update). It is suspected due to timing of incident onset, beginning the day after service. Firmware was installed by dealership service dept. It is unknown at this time all of the buttons affected. Since buttons on steering wheel are affected, and cruise control is also located there, this could pose a severe hazard if cruise control does not respond to a disable request. Cell Phone, radio, display change functions do not work from dashboard. There was a follow up software update (on same EPS system) performed by dealership on June 30, 2020 that improved...
The auto is hard to steer. I have not had an incident yet but it is increasingly hard to steer. I received a questionnaire a out this issue earlier this year. Auto steering was fine at that time. That is no longer the case.
Every time I start my Car the EPS light comes on and I have to use an unnecessary amount of strength to turn the wheel. I am unable to drive the car because I can't turn it far enough to turn. I went to the Honda Dealership and paid $1,000 to replace the control unit and the problem is still here. The EPS light reappeared while I was driving after Honda Claimed that they fixed the issue.
