1. What component or system failed? The ABS/VSA Modulator Control Unit (also known as the ABS pump or module). This system is responsible for Anti-lock Braking and Vehicle Stability Assist. 2. How was safety put at risk? The failure often results in the complete loss of Anti-lock Braking (ABS) and Stability Control (VSA). Increased Stopping Distance: In emergency braking situations, the wheels can lock up, leading to skidding and significantly longer distances to stop. Loss of Steering Control: Without VSA, the vehicle is prone to "plowing" (understeer) or spinning out (oversteer) during evasive maneuvers or on slippery surfaces (rain, snow, gravel). Brake Pedal Issues: Some owners report a "hard" or "unresponsive" brake pedal during the moment of failure, which causes a delay in braking response. This is a widely confirmed issue for 9th Gen Accords. Dealer Diagnosis: Most owners have this confirmed by a dealer through Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)....

Power steering TPM S and traction control lights are coming on after putting in a new battery. This is a recall for 2013 to 2017 Honda Accord sport with CVT transmission and for some reason, my car is not part of the batch, even though it is experiencing this issue. I am assuming the issue is the battery management

I am writing to report a persistent and dangerous safety defect in my 2014 Honda Accord involving the VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) / ABS / ABS modulator / ABS ECU system. The ABS, VSA, and other warning lights have been on for years, first noticing around 60-70,000 miles indicating an ongoing fault in the system. The dealer has diagnosed a bad ABS/VSA modulator and/or ECU and stated this is a common issue and that often this part is on backorder. Most recently, while turning the car, the system locked or mis applied the brakes, causing the car to lose control and spin out. Luckily I did not crash as the car behind me was at a safe distance, but I ended up on the side of the highway in a dangerous situation. The Center for Auto Safety shows multiple complaints for 2014 Accord, including: ABS, VSA, traction control, stability control...

I have a 2014 Honda Accord EX-L with not even 62,000 miles. When we purchased the car we got the extended warranty, thinking Honda would stand by their product. Not true. After the first month we had to have the battery replaced. Fast forward a few years and we were told we needed a new battery”wire harness” at a cost of over $2,000. Now it is 2025 and the backup camera only works when the turn signal is used; it remains a black screen when put into reverse. Add to that what is apparently a major problem with other Honda owners. When we go to start the car, we get nothing. The CAR DOESN’T START. Thinking that the key fob needed a battery, we replaced them with new batteries. It continues to be a problem. I have a fear I will be out one day and it will not start...

Purchased the car in August 2024 from Carvana, September the car shuts off at red light. Was told to replace the alternator. Shop replaced alternator but car still was cutting off while in parked or at complete stop. Was told to replace the battery, replaced the battery and months later car still shuts off. Had another mechanic look at it once hook up to scanner FCW light said failed system on odometer, MAF code showed on scanner. Scared to continue driving vehicle because of safety reasons car is not safe. Can’t return it so I’m stuck trying to figure out what could be the problem. Was told it could be electrical problem or battery sensor issue.

The ABS modulator has failed. It's a common issue with 2014 Honda Accords and they should be recalled for it. It causes all of the dash lights to come on and so you won't know when there is an actual issue with your car because all of the lights are on all of the time until you can get it repaired. Also your anti lock brakes could fail. I bought this car brand new in 2014. It has less than 80k miles and to pay thousands of dollars 10+ yrs later because Honda charges so much for the part, does not make sense.

The ABS light is on. brake light is on Auto shop said I need a new ABS module. Also the power steering light is on.
#11636377 |
When driving at low speeds, for example looking for parking in my work parking lot, my 2014 Honda accord coupe lost power steering. Steering wheel became heavy and hard to turn. The screens flickered on the radio and the car felt like a manual car when it stalls. With every turn of the wheel the car would try to shut off. No warning light came on the dash. There was a car behind me when it happened. Even though it was a parking lot, the car behind me almost rear ended me since the car started to try to shut off when i was making a turn into the parking spot and he/she did not expect my car to stop before i completed the turn. This just happened an hour ago and since i had to come in to work I haven't taken it for a diagnoses yet.

ABS Control Module Solenoid Valve Malfunction
#11619759 |
Push/Start button has intermittent episodes of not starting the vehicle. Throughout all of Honda's models, this is a wide spread and known entity. The manufacturer has had recalls up to a certain date for this problem. Now they claim ignorance for this known malfunctioning part. I presume to save money and have consumers pay hundreds of dollars for a known but denied by Honda.... problem !!!
#11616577 |
Multiple Lights on Dashboard: ABS, EPS, Parking Brake, VSA, TPMS. Lights were intermittent at first, then became permanent. Car still runs and drives fine but ABS and Traction Control do not function. Local Mechanic scanned for codes and found the following: 121-11 VSA Solenoid Valve Malfunction 81-20 Central Processing Unit internal circuit malfunction 85-01 VSA system malfunction Local Mechanic has seen this before and recommended replacement of the VSA Modulator Valve assembly (Part number 04571-T2F-L01). Repair has not been completed. Transmission died (CVT belt Broke) at around 195,000 miles and about 6 months after VSA system issue started. Unsure if the problems were related. Car now has a new Transmission.
#11613350 |
The VSA/ABS module failed and is a costly repair that causes safety concerns. I see from research that this is a common issue among the 2014 Honda accords and a small number of 2014 Honda accords were recalled for this but not mine. The fact that so many are failing this recall should be expanded to include the other accords having the same issues.
#11613257 |
The car has started just clicking when push button to crank it. It's getting worse day by day. I've had to set and just keep pushing button up to 30 min and it will eventually crank when it gets ready like nothing is wrong. I've googled it and seems every vehicle 2013-2017 is having the same bad starter problem around 40- 60,000 miles. There needs to be a recall because there's ppl already putting 4 and 5 starters on at this mileage and at $800 each it's ridiculous.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the TPMS, VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist), and the electric power steering warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the VSA modulator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
#11605450 |
All kinds of failure on dashboards. Codes 81-19 and 81-20. Mechanic said there is a chance abs brakes and traction control isn't working. Said this is very common for my car and that I should take it directly to Honda.

ABS Module failure. Im sure this issue has been mentioned multiple times, but it is a known issue that the honda accord's (2014 range models) ABS module circuit board have improperly sized wires that are soldered on the circuit board. This can cause a lot of issues especially when driving in the snow and/or rain since the ABS system is faulty. This video explains in better detail: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I purchased this vehicle new, it has only 70,000 miles. Recently the dashboard lights lit up with a message that the forward collision warning system failed. I pulled over as soon as I could and began looking this up. First, I wanted to learn if it was safe to drive the car home or if I needed to have the car towed to a dealer. When I restarted the car thirty minutes later the warning lights were off. I got the car home and used an inexpensive OBD reader to check for codes, none showed up. Later I took the car to a mechanic and his professional scanner found codes 81-19 and 81-20. There are many stories on youtube about the VSA/ABS module failing.
#11573042 |
There is known issue with the ABS Modulator with this gen Honda Accord. I believe the affected years are 2013-2017. The selenoid for the ABS module goes bad and the light in the attached photo comes on. Basically, the soldering for the tinny modulator wires comes off. Honda sells the at for $2300 These was a class action for the similar issue in Thailand and Honda had to repair all the affected vehicles at no charge. [XXX] Also, it's so common that people on ebay service these selenoids and solder the wires. I think you guys need to step up and put some pressure on Honda and have them honor the service to the affected customer without extra charge. VSA Modulator is flashing dashboard lights on and off signalley that something is not functioning properly like the brakes, oil change, engine check when their is nothing wrong. I was informed that my Modulator was bad. Why hasn't Honda had a recall on this car. 12/
#11571100 |
The ABS, VSA, EPS, and the parking brake systems began to appear on my dashboard. After diagnostics, it appeared that the VSA modulator was failing to provide all these components that are needed for safety in all driving conditions. After doing some research, I came to know that the modulator failure is very common in the Honda Accord models from year 2010 and above. Yet, Honda has yet to recall vehicles for this issue that affects the brake and steering systems. So far, the lights continuously appear and disappear. However, there is a huge difference when the intermittent lights appear. The car swerves too easily on rainy days when running through a puddle on the street. Even on windy days, sometimes it cannot handle when I am driving against the wind. The car's steering system feels too vulnerable and sensitive when these lights are on given that I have none...

In July 2023 after having brake pads and rotors replaced at the Honda dealership, several dashboard lights went on: LDW/FCW, traction control, steering, and ABS lights came on. After a diagnostic test at the dealership, they wanted over $2600 for parts and labor for a new ABS module. However, this part is “on backorder” with NO ETA. We spent less than $700 to have a mechanic remove the current ABS module, send it to CA to a place we found on eBay that repairs them, and have the mechanic replace it after bleeding the brake lines and replacing the brake fluid. This is a KNOWN issue (see Reddit, YouTube, these complaints, mechanics…even the dealership) on a part that should last the lifetime of the car. I expected more from Honda.
#11567676 |
ABS Module failed and hence indicators for ABS, Electronic steering, stability assist, and tire low pressure have come on. On diagnosis with the dealer, it was told that the module has failed, and it has to be replaced. Such low-quality parts were not expected from Honda.
#11564811 |
Power steering, and ABS light flash on at random. The vehicle sometimes veers off and steering is frequently very very loose or very very tight. Also, there is a whining that never stops when I turn the wheel all the way to the left or right, the vehicle almost shut off and the entire dash and radio shut off and back on. When I am at a stop or cars at idle everything will dim and car. Sounds like it’s almost going to die and then back to normal had looked at and they couldn’t find any noticeable issues.
#11563313 |
The ABS control module is defective on my vehicle. The electronic components have a poor design which allows the electrical contacts inside the module to break lose. Honda is aware of many of these complaints but has failed to perform a recall.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while starting the vehicle in the morning or after stopping and parking the vehicle, the contact had difficulty to start the vehicle. The contact stated that several attempts were needed to start the vehicle. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the battery and starter motor needed to be replaced. The battery was replaced but not the starter motor. The vehicle was partially repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.

There was a sudden loss of all control of the vehicle for a few seconds, i.e., no steering/braking etc. and swerved; it could have easily caused an accident if there were any cars in the next lane. When control came back, pulled to a left turning lane and stopped. After a couple minutes, started driving again slowly and with fear. There were/are no warning lamps/messages/symbols prior to or after this happened.

1. VSA Modulator: VSA ABS Brake Control Module and is still in my car 2. Flashing lights distracting when driving and no replacements available per dealer (see below). Concern if problem causes Break system degradation or failure. 3. I have the service record from Performance Kings Honda, Cincinnati, OH 513-774-6013 with detailed notes below INv # 1146638 4. All of a sudden, many of the lights on the dashboard lit up. LDW, FDW, ABS, TPS (tire), Power Steering, and maybe another one or two. Mechanic recommended changing the battery. After the battery was replaced, the lights should have reset automatically. Two weeks ago the FCW/LDW, Steering Wheel, Tire Pressure, ABS, and Emergency Brake lights came on the dashboard. I took the car to the mechanic and it was diagnosed as a malfunctioning ABS Modulator. According to the shop, they are dealing with a lot of similar cases for Honda Accords of around the same age. According to the dealer, the cost to replace this sensor is $1,900 since it basically controls a lot of important braking functions. I wished Honda would issue a recall of this matter considering the number of vehicles affected.

THE CAR INTERMITTANTLY WILL NOT START AND CAN LEAVE ME STRANDED. IT APPEARS TO BE A FAULTING IGNITION SWITCH AS THE STARTER WORKS FINE SO LONG AS THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TURNS IT ON. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT WAS RECALLED ON THE PREVIOUS 2013 MODEL AND APPARENTLY NOT FIXED WITH THE 2014 MODEL.

FCW-Forward Collision Warning, LDW-Lane Departure Warning, ABS, Traction Control, Power Steering, Low Tire Pressure lights on. Attributed to common VSA/ABS module malfunction. Driving with these electrical malfunctions dangerous. Honda not willing to replace. My car has only 45,000 miles with no collision history.

I took my 2014 Honda Accord Ex in for repairs on September 4, 2023 and the Honda dealership informed me that after replacing the battery that the it that the VSA Modulator on the car has gone bad which has been a common problem with this year Honda Accord and others from 2013 all the way to the 2017. And this part has been on back order for months. This a shame.

Push button start had occasional starting problem. But if I tried starting a few minutes later it would work then it completely stopped starting. Having car towed to dealer tomorrow for diagnosing. I believe it is a starter issue. Even though car is 2014 it has low mileage.

My 2014 Honda Accord EX sedan has/had defective Starter and ABS Modulator , Many Honda Accord vehicles in these year range are having or had these same problems . These vehicles should not be having these problems at low mileage . I believe the ABS problems are a safety concern.
#11546173 |
ABS module/modulator is faulty. Dashboard lights come on and anti lock brakes do not work in rainy conditions or any condition when braking hard to stop. Many people have experienced the exact same thing. The dealership confirmed that it is the abs/gas modulator.

I was making a left turn and my steering wheel locked up. I couldn't return the wheel right to straighten out. The car kept going left. I had to put my car in reverse and after some time the steering wheel unlocked while in reverse. I was on a busy street and almost caused an accident. I was on the right lane and it forced me into the left lane. The driver I cut off was able to brake just in time without hitting my car. No lights on dashboard. Not able to reproduce by dealership. Dealership scanned code 85-01 VSA system malfunction and is charging $3k to replace the VSA modulator part #04571-T2F-L11. No other symptoms prior. I have dashcam video as well [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When im driving I get my "Check Engine Light" that turns on, and it says "Check charge system" which I assume is possibly referring to the recall of the battery cable. When I make frequent stops my car suddenly will turn off, as if it lost power, and I will have to then exit the vehicle, to adjust the cables for the battery, therefore its putting my life in danger, as im having to turn the car back on.

When turning switch to start car there is a click and car fails to turn engine crank. Takes multiple attempts to start engine.

I received a diagnosis from Honda Dealership today that my 2014 vehicle has a failed VSA Modulator which regulates brakes and all abs features. They stated it was only from wear and tear on my vehicle. I am only at 109,000 miles. They quoted me a price of $3000.00 to fix the problem and noted I could not pick up my car without signing a statement that I understood the problem and understood that my brakes would eventually fail without fixing the problem. I cannot currently afford to fix the problem or safely drive my vehicle.

1. Starting System I have had trouble starting with the push button for about 3 weeks. It sometimes would take several tries before turning over. Most times, it would start in 1 – 2 attempts. It was worse this last week. I had to try more often, especially on Thursday night. I did not drive at all on Friday. On Saturday 7/1/23, I drove to the pharmacy less than < 1 mile. it did not start after dozens of tries after shopping. I walked home. Later, I had other errands taking our Odyssey. Back at the parking lot, I tried again dozens of times and it would not start. I tried moving the gears from park to neutral, trying to start it and going back again. I called AAA for a tow and called service department to let you know of the issue and the towing to the dealership. I...

The VSA ABS modulator failed, and it will be available for inspection upon request. The failure of this causes the ABS system to not work along with traction control. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic that pulled the codes and then taken for an estimate to the Honda dealer who confirmed the issue with the modulator. There are 4 warning lights in addition to the "FCW System Failed" message on the dash. The ABS light, traction control, FCW, and Tire Pressure indicator lamps all display and cannot be cleared. The FCW System Failed message cannot be cleared to be able to see other maintenance that is due such as an oil change or to view current mileage. The message and warning lights just popped up unexpectedly while pulling into to parking spot. For a brief time, the steering wheel would shake while driving making it appear that there was...

The power steering seemed to have gotten "stuck" in place or so it felt or seemed for a short time while driving. I have noticed that when I am turning the wheel that I can hear noise when turning as if it's not moving smoothly. If my power steering stops working while driving or gets stuck, then that could pose a serious problem to me and other drivers. The problem is daily now with the sound of every left or right turn. This component has not been inspected by anyone yet. There weren't any warnings.

LDW, FCW, brake, ABS, etc. lights flashing. After much research it appears this is a known problem that affects thousands of Honda vehicles. I have found that the VSA Module is responsible- the solenoid is bad. This part needs to be replaced but is on back order with an unknown date when it will be available. Honda has been aware of this problem for many years!! This is a safety issue and is unsafe to operate this vehicle. As there are no replacements available there is no other option but to drive it as I need my car. If an accident occurs due to this part malfunctioning it will be Hondas responsibility due to the fact that they have known this is a problem and that there are no replacements available!!

I had several warning light appear on the dashboard, and the dealership said that my VSA modulator was starting to go bad. This device controls power steering, anti-lock brakes and other functions. While driving to the Honda service department, the brakes were very low and the steering was loose (dangerous conditions). After doing some research, I found that Honda recalled the VSA modulator on other models, but not for my 2014 Accord. Many other owners of the same model stated that their VSA modulators failed around 34k-36k miles (right at the end of warranty). I still have the original VSA modulator, the dealer just reset the warning lights and sent me on my way. I am writing to request an investigation for Honda to extend the VSA modulator recall to more models, such as the 2014 Accord.
