THREE SEPARATE INCIDENTS. ALL THREE INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHILE FIRST STARTING VEHICLE, PUTTING VEHICLE IN REVERSE, AND THEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND A STEERING ASSIST FAILURE WARNING COMES ON. STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT MOVE. HAD TO PULL BACK IN TO PARKING SPOT AND TURN CAR OFF. UPON TURNING THE VEHICLE BACK ON, THE STEERING WHEEL IS BACK TO NORMAL AND THE WARNING IS GONE. TERRIBLE VEHICLE. FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING MY CHILD IN IT. NEVER WILL BUY ANOTHER FORD EVER AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. WHILE THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING 50 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND AN AUDIBLE TONE WAS HEARD. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING BECAME INOPERABLE AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED. MORRIE'S MINNETONKA FORD (LOCATED AT 13400 WAYZATA BLVD, MINNETONKA, MN 55305, (952) 546-5441) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY TO DINNER, A MESSAGE POPS UP AND STATES, "STEERING FAULT, SERVICE SOON". DURING THIS TIME, IT BECAME A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO MOVE THE VEHICLE AROUND ON THE ROAD. I MANAGED TO MAKE IT TO DINNER. CONCERNED, I WANTED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THAT EVENING (1/8/2019) A NEW MESSAGE POPPED UP. IT STATED; "STEERING LOSS STOP SAFELY". THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ESSENTIALLY LOCKED IN ITS POSITION AND HARD TO MOVE AROUND. I GOT IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $1,931.35 TO FIX. THIS INCLUDES ABOUT $1,200 FOR THE STEERING GEAR (ELECTRICAL), ABOUT $605 FOR THE LABOR, AND ANOTHER $100 FOR A NEW ALIGNMENT. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THIS IS A 2014 WITH ONLY 55K ON IT. ON MY WAY HOME TOWARDS THE END OF AUGUST AND BEGINNING OF SEPTEMBER 2018 THE POWER STEERING IN MY CAR STARTED TO GO OUT AND I WAS SAFELY ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR TO A LOCATION NEAR AN INTERSECTION BEFORE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY
POWER STEERING RACK NOISE BACKING CAR UP STEERING CAR OR JUST DRIVING HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP
RECEIVED NOTICE STATING 'STEERING ASSIST FAULT, SERVICE NOW' WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. TURNED CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON ON THE SIDE OF HIGHWAY AND RECEIVED MESSAGE STATING, 'STEERING LOSS, STOP SAFELY.' ALL WITHIN 5-10 MINUTES OF EACH OTHER. ALMOST WRECKED MULTIPLE TIMES TRYING TO GET MY CAR TO SAFETY.
TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. HAD TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, WHO REPAIRED WITH THE SAME PARTS. THE VEHICLE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AND BROKE DOWN WITH THE SAME ISSUE AFTER DRIVING 50 FT. UNTIL TODAY, THE TRANSMISSION IS UNPREDICTABLE AND UNSAFE, AND NOW THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WENT OUT, LUCKILY I JUST GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND BACK TO WORK WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I'VE SEEM NUMEROUS REPORTS ON BOTH OF THESE ISSUES, AND FORD WANTS $2500 TO REPAIR THE STEERING, AND SAYS THEY CANNOT CHECK THE TRANSMISSION UNTIL THEN. THEY ALSO INDICATED THAT THEY AREN'T SURE IF THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BE REPAIRED AGAIN, AND IT WOULD DEPEND ON HOW 'BAD' IT IS. THIS IS A COMPLETELY UNSAFE VEHICLE, WHICH I AM STILL PAYING FOR, AND IS UNUSABLE AT THIS TIME, UNLESS I DECIDE TO DRIVE IT IN UNSAFE CONDITIONS. FORD IS NOT CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS OR SAFETY.
DRIVING AND VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN AFTER A LOUD CRUNCHING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF CAR. A BUNCH OF CODES FLASHED ACROSS THE DASH . VEHICLE WOULDN'T START. HAD TO TOW IT HOME. THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT STAYS ON NOW WHEN I TURN KEY ON.
WHILE ON A ROAD TRIP, THE CAR WAS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY WHEN I STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AT A GAS STATION TO GET FUEL. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING DID NOT FUNCTION AND I HAD A NOTIFICATION ON THE DASH STATING THIS AS WELL. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 39,900 MILES AND I HAVE BEEN QUOTED A REPAIR COST OF ~$3,000.
WAS DRIVING I10 TO VISIT MY MOM IN MILTON FL WHEN SUDDENLY I COULD NOT STEER THE CAR...THE POWER ASSIST FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON. HAD TO MANHANDLE THE CAR THE REMAINING 120 MILES WHERE I LEFT IT SIT FOR A DAY AND HAD TO DRIVE IT BACK TO JACKSONVILLE FL BECAUSE THE ONE PLACE IN THAT AREA - PENSACOLA - THAT COULD FIX IT WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO UNTIL TUES. AND I HAD TO BE TO WORK MON. STEERING ASSIST WAS OFF AND ON. MOSTLY OFF, MY ENTIRE DRIVE HOME. WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT IT - BRAND NEW IN 2014 - ON MON. AND IT WAS FIXED TUES. $3004.96 LATER...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT CALLED ON BEHALF OF THE DRIVER. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COMPUTER SYSTEM FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NO RECALL WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
PURCHED VEHICLE MARCH 6TH 2015.GOT THE EXTENDED WARRENTY SINCE THEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS FIXED 3 TIMES AND NOW THE ELECTRONIC ASSIST STEERING WENT OUT WHILE PULLING IN MY DRIVE MAKING ME HIT MAILBOX AND MAKE DENT IN HOOD OF CAR.CALLED 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS AND ALL 3 SAID SORRY THAT'S NOT ON RECALL EVEN THOU THE SAME STEERING IS USED ON OTHER FORD VEHICLES AND ARE ON RECALL.MY WARRENTY OZ UP AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO FIX TRANSMISSION AND STEERING.THE TRANSMISSION WAS MOVED OUT TO A 5 YEAR 10K MILE WARRENTY.LIKE I SAID THEY FIXED UNDER WARRENTY 3 TIMES.THIS CAR IS A LEMON AND I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO SEND IT BACK AND HOPEFULLY NOT BE CHARGED FOR THE CAR.
ON 8/24/2018 I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION AND FILLED THE CAR UP. AS I WAS LEAVING I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE AS I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD NEVER HEARD ANY NOISE FROM TURNING BEFORE. AS I DROVE HOME 4.7 MILES THERE WERE NO TURNS, BUT THE ROAD DOES WIND A LITTLE BIT. AS I WAS DRIVING I NOTICED THE STEERING FELT A LITTLE "LOOSE" AND A LITTLE UNRESPONSIVE. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS OR WARNING SO I CONTINUED HOME WHERE I WOULD LOOK AT IT. WHERE THE ROAD CURVED I COULD HEAR A GRINDING SOUND AS TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. NO SOUND WAS HEARD WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. WHEN I GOT TO MY BLOCK I MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN AND THE GRINDING NOISE WAS VERY PRONOUNCED. WHEN I TURNED LEFT ONTO MY STREET THE NOISE WAS JUST AS PRONOUNCED. WHEN IN MY DRIVEWAY I TURNED THE WHEEL WHILE...
AFTER DRIVING FOR 2 HOURS AT HIGHWAY SPEED, 90+ DEGREES AMBIENT, I STOPPED THE CAR TO DISCHARGE A PASSENGER. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR, THE POWER ASSIST HAD FAILED. I WAS ABLE TO PARK THE CAR WITH CONSIDERABLE MANUAL EFFORT. 2 HOURS LATER I STARTED THE CAR AND THE POWER ASSIST STEERING WORKED NORMALLY. AFTER ABOUT A MONTH THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECURRENCES. WHEN I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO MY DEALER THE SERVICE REP WANTED TO CHARGE ME $100 TO READ THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STATE ROAD ABOUT 100 YARDS AWAY FROM THE ROAD I LIVE ON. I TURNED MY TURN SIGNAL ON AND BEGAN SLOWING DOWN. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO TURN I BEGAN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR TO TURN, UPON DOING SO MY STEERING LOCKED UP. I LOST MY POWER STEERING AND WASN'T ABLE TO TURN. A CAR WAS APPROACHING AND HAD TO STOP TO PREVENT FROM HITTING MY ON MY PASSENGER SIDE. I HAVE NO CLUE WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL AFTER RESEARCHING THIS DEFECT. THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN IN CRASHES INCLUDING DEATHS. I'M THANKFUL NO ONE WAS HURT IN THIS SITUATION BUT I CANT IMAGINE IF MY DAUGHTER WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING AS WE PURCHASED THIS CAR FOR HER. I PRAY YOU LOOK INTO THIS AND ISSUE A RECALL.

AT 42000 MILES MY CAR DEVELOPED SOME NOISE WITH THE STEERING. THERE WAS RUBBING NOISE COMING FROM BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL WHENEVER I WAS TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS SUCH AS WHEN I'M PULLING IN OR OUT OF PARKING. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING RACK AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I'M AWARE THERE'S A RECALL 14S18 THAT ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE, BUT MY CAR ISN'T COVERED BECAUSE IT WASN'T MANUFACTURED AT THE DATE THAT AFFECTS THAT RECALL, SO I'M ASKING FOR RECALL 14S18 TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE VEHICLES BUILT AT THE SAME TIME AS MINE.
STEERING ASSIST MESSAGE CAME ON DURING ENGINE STAR ,VEHICLE WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN STEER OUT OF PARKING LOT .CAR HAS ONLY 73000 MILES . DEALER REPAIRED AT OWNER COST OF OVER $2100 .COMPLETE STEERING MECHANISM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED .

WHILE DOING AN INTERNET SEARCH ON THE PROBLEM I FOUND A SITE WITH MANY COMPLAINTS AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2013 FORD FOCUS MODELS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, SO THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH FORD.
POWER STEERING FAILURE. NEEDS TOTAL REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 46,000 MILES. I WAS LUCKY I WAS NOT DRIVING IT, WHEN IT WENT OUT. I AM GUESSING THE TEMP THAT DAY HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. TEMP WAS 85 THAT DAY.

STEERING WHEEL HAS LOCKED TWICE AFTER VEHICLE HAD STARTED AND WAS MOVING. FIRST WAS WHEN LEAVING A GARAGE AT WORK AND MOVING FORWARDS ON A TURN. SECOND WAS WHEN TRYING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT IN REVERSE AND LOCKED UP. BOTH TIMES THE HUD POPPED UP A MESSAGE INDICATING FAILURE. SEEMS STRANGE OR FAULTY ON THE COMPANY CONSIDERING IT IS A 2014 FOCUS WITH ONLY 38K MILES ON IT THAT THIS WOULD FAIL SO SOON. NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING IN THE #1 LANE IN MODERATE TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY, GOING ABOUT 40 MPH, MOVING STRAIGHT AHEAD, AND SLIGHTLY ACCELERATING. AN ALERT SHOWED UP ON MY DASH SCREEN STATING THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH STEERING ASSIST. AS I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY, I NOTICED THAT IT WAS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DIFFICULT TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL, AND AS I TOOK A RIGHT TURN AT THE FREEWAY EXIT, IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. WENT TO AUTOZONE FOR POWER STEERING FLUID. THEY ASKED YEAR MAKE MODEL SAID IT DOESN'T REQUIRE IT. I LEFT AN ON MY WAY OUT STEERING LOCKED. PRAISE THE LORD NO ONE WAY HURT.
I HAVE HAD THIS 2014 FORD FOCUS SINCE EARLY 2015. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS OUT OF THIS CAR SINCE I HAVE HAD IT, WITH THE DEALERSHIP NOT EVER FINDING OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. WHEN CAR IS PARKED AND I START THE ENGINE THE DASHBOARD SHOWS "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS. WHEN THE ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THE STEERING WHEEL WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN TO THE RIGHT OR TO THE LEFT OR WILL LOCK. THIS ISSUE MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MAKE TURNS IN AN INTERSECTIONS, HIGHWAYS AND CITY STREETS. PROBLEM WILL CONTINUES UNTIL CAR IS TURN OFF. WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED UP AGAIN, THE MESSAGE ERROR WILL APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE STEERING WHEEL PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE.
THE STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2014 FORD FOCUS SE CAME LOOSE ONE MORNING. NO INDICATION OF LOOSENESS IN THE WEEKS LEADING UP. THE STEERING WHEEL JUST BECAME VERY WOBBLY AND LOOSE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP STATED IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE COMPREHENSIVE EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULDN'T COVER IT EITHER, THE ISSUE: A NUT THAT HOLDS THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE STEERING COLUMN CAME LOOSE. ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICIAN, THERE WAS NOT MUCH LOCTIGHT ON THE BOLT. $200 LATER I HAVE THE SAME NUT TIGHTENED BACK DOWN WITH NEWLY ADDED LOCTIGHT. FAST FORWARD AND ON 3/14/2018 FORD ANNOUNCED A RECALL AFFECTING 1.4 MILLION FORD FUSIONS THAT HAVE THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. YET I HAVE A FOCUS NOT A FUSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER INFORMED HER NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE FRONT WHEELS WOULD TURN IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000.

STEERING WHEEL ACTED LIKE IT LOST POWER AND AS I TRIED TO AVOID A CURB, INSTEAD OF AVOIDING THE CURB THE VECHILE HIT THE CURB AND BLEW OUT TWO TIRES AND MORE DAMAGE. I WILL FIND OUT WHEN I GO TO THE FORD DEALER. THIS IS THE SECOND ACCIDENT I HAVE HAD WITH A STEERING ISSUE WITH THIS VECHILE. STERLING HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WHERE IT ACTS LIKE MANUAL IF THE CAR SITS OR AROUND WATER. CAR HAS ALSO HAD CLUTCH AND MULTIPLE SERVICE FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES.
WHEN I PARKED MY CAR IT WAS IN PERFECT WORKING CONDITION. THE CAR SAT FOR A FEW DAYS AND WHEN I WENT TO GO DRIVE IT AGAIN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP WHILE THE CAR WAS ON THEN IT UNLOCKED AFTER A FEW SECONDS. WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL BOTH WAYS THERE WAS A WEIRD NOISE (LIKE TIRE ON THE PAVEMENT BUT WORSE) AND A GRINDING/VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I DROVE THE CAR ANYWAYS THINK MAYBE IT JUST NEEDING TO BE DRIVEN AFTER JUST SITTING. WHILE ONLY A 100 YARDS DOWN THE ROAD (CITY STREET) THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP FOR A SECOND THEY UNLOCKED. HAD MY DAD LOOK AT MY CAR AND DRIVE IT TO MAKE SURE I WASN'T CRAZY AND HE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING VISUALLY BUT SAID IT WASN'T RIGHT. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING (EPAS), OR DRIVING ASSISTANCE SYSTEM, DISPLAYS AN ERROR: "STEERING ASSIST FAULT; SERVICE REQUIRED." FORD FOCUS VEHICLES ARE OUTFITTED WITH THE ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST SYSTEM INSTALL OF THE STANDARD FLUID-BASED POWER STEERING PUMPS. FROM FORUMS AND BLOGS, THE PROBLEM LOOKS TO HAPPEN AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF, THEN BACK ON AGAIN. THE SENSOR FOR THIS SYSTEM LOOKS TO NOT TRIGGERING THE STEERING ASSIST.

I ONLY BOUGHT THE CAR LAST YEAR. NOW, I CANNOT HARDLY STEER IT. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. I HAVE TO FIGHT TO TURN IT. I WANT A CAR THAT IS SAFE. THIS CAR HAS HAD ISSUES, CONTINUOUSLY, SINCE I BOUGHT IT. NOW, I AM STUCK WITH PAYING ALMOST $400/MONTH ON A CAR THAT I CANNOT DRIVE. THIS IS NOT FAIR. THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE TOWED TO CHAPMAN FORD WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER NEW/USED FORD FOCUS INTO TOWN AND THE EPAS--POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CODED AND SHE HAD NO POWER STEERING. SHE WAS GOING ROUGHLY 55 AND SHE COULD NOTICE IT BECOMING HARDER TO STEER. BY THE TIME SHE MADE IT SO A PARKING LOT FOR SAFETY IT WAS CLOSE TO NON-STEERABLE. IT BECAME HARD FOR HER TO STEER AND LUCKILY SHE DID NOT HAVE OR CAUSE AND ACCIDENT WITH THE SUDDEN CHANGE. SHE TRIED TO ASSESS WHAT WAS WRONG WHICH IS WHEN WE LEARNED THERE IS NO POWERSTEERING FLUID AS IT HAS AND ELETRIC STEERING ASSIST INSTEAD. IT DOESN'T WORK NOW AND SHORTLY AFTER THIS CODE FAULTED THE ENTIRE CAR SHUT DOWN. IT WON'T START AND IS USELESS--FORD REPLACED A PERFECTLY GOOD STEERING SYSTEM WITH CRAP. BOUGHT A 2014 FORD FOCUS 1/17/16AND 6 MONTHS AFTER OWNING IT, THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED WHEN TAKING OFF AT A GREEN LIGHT, HAD LOST POWER AROUND CORNERS. BROUGHT IT BACK WITHOUT RECALL NOTICE JUNE 20, 2017, AND THE DEALER SAID THEY WILL FILE A 360 ON REPAIR OF THE CLUTCH. WAITING FOR THE DEALER TO CALL NOW 6/21/17 . I NEED A RELIABLE CAR FOR WORK AND MY FAMILY AND CAN NOT DRIVE THIS CAR. SO SCARED DRIVING IT 3/4 CLOSE CALLS AND REAR ENDS. IT SITS AS I PAY FOR IT EVERY MONTH.
