ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. VEHICLE REQUIRES A GREAT EFFORT TO TURN DIRECTIONS ESPECIALLY AT A STAND STILL.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER - GANLEY FORD WEST, INC. (16100 LORAIN AVE, CLEVELAND, OH 44111, (216) 941-9800) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL MODULE AND RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
I DROVE TO WORK AND EVERYTHING THAT MORNING BUT WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR ME TO GO HOME , OUT OF NOWHERE WHEN I TURNED MY CAR ON IT SAID STEERING LOSS . I WASN'T ABLE TO TURN MY WHEEL OR ANYTHING , SO I HAD TO GET IT TOWED. THANK GOD I WAS NOT ON THE ROAD AND IT LOCKED UP ON ME BECAUSE THERE'S NO TELLING WHAT WOULD'VE HAPPENED.

THE HORN IN THE CAR SOMETIMES WORK AND SOMETIMES DOESNT, THE TRUNK DOES NOT OPEN UNLESS FROM INSIDE.
HAS ANYONE HAD ANY ISSUES WITH POWER STEERING? I HAVE A 2014 TITANIUM AND FOR THE LAST MONTH OR SO I'VE NOTICED MY POWER STEERING TAKING A COUPLE SECONDS LONGER TO KICK IN WHEN I START MY CAR. LAST WEEK, AN ALERT CAME ON STATING 'POWER STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION'. I TOOK IT INTO A FORD DEALER TO GET LOOKED AT, AND THEY SAID THE CODE THAT CAME UP FOR THEM SHOWED A POWER STEERING MODULE/POWER STEERING GEAR ISSUE. THE WHOLE THING NEEDS REPLACED. I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THE ALERT CAME ON.
I PURCHASED MY FORD FOCUS 2014 WITH 40,000 MILES FOR $17,000, MID YEAR OF 2017. THE CAR DROVE PERFECTLY BEFORE ITS FIRST RECALL IN DECEMBER OF 2018. EVER SINCE THEN THE CAR HAS BROKEN DOWN AT LEAST EVERY 3 MONTHS. I HAVE HAD FOUR RECALL REPAIRS SINCE THE PURCHASE, I BELIEVE THE RECALLS ARE THE REASON IT NEEDS SO MANY ADDITIONAL OTHER REPAIRS. BESIDES THE CAR ITSELF I HAVE SPENT OVER $35,000 ON ADDITIONAL REPAIRS. I HAVE PAID FORD, MURRAY'S AUTO / ACIMA, ALL 4 U AUTO, FIRESTONE AND BEST TIRES FOR REPAIRS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE RECALLS AND OTHER PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCES WITH THE CAR, MANY OF THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCING WAY MORE TROUBLESOME ACTIVITY WITH THE CARS WITH THE RECALL THAN WHAT IS STATED IN THE MAIL LETTER. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST A SETTLEMENT REIMBURSEMENT OF A NEW CAR DUE MY UNSATISFIED EXPERIENCE WITH MY CAR. I WILL ATTACH...
POWER ASSIST FAILURE WHEN MANEUVERING IN PARKING LOT. HAD TO TURN OFF AND RESTART. THIS IS REOCCURRING.
THE POWER STEERING JUST STOPS WORKING FROM TIME TO TIME. THIS HAPPENED WHILE TAKING A CURVE THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE FOUND THAT NUMEROUS PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH A NUMBER OF THEIR FORDS THAT HAVE THE ELECTRONIC STERRING ASSIST. THIS HAPPENED TO ME THE FIRST TIME ON MARCH 5 THIS YEAR. (2020) I REMEMBER BECAUSE IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY.
I STARTED MY CAR FROM A STATIONARY POSITION ON A STREET AND THE CONSOLE STATED THAT THE 'POWER STEERING ASSIST WAS DISABLED. SERVICE REQUIRED.' THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE LEFT OR RIGHT. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD MOVE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT UNKNOWN COMPONENT ON THE STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE PLACED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V514000 (STEERING), HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.

THE POWER STEERING ON MY CAR WENT OUT AS I WAS DRIVING, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MAKE TURNS. I WAS ON A CITY STREET AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OF THE ROAD. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, MADE A PHONE CALLS. I STARTED THE ENGINE AGAIN AND HEADED HOME ( ABOUT 5 MILES) THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. TWO DAYS LATER WE TOOK THE CAR TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC. HE TOLD US THAT FORD HAS TROUBLE WITH THE STEERING SYSTEM AND THAT WE NEEDED TO TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER. WE TOOK IT TO LIBERTY FORD IN PARMA, OHIO. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD IS EXPERIENCING MANY CASES OF THIS PROBLEM, THE DEALERSHIP SAID FORD IS NOT COVERING ANY OF THE COST.

THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE FROM DAY ONE, HARD TO STEER AND KEEP ON THE ROAD, ALONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, HAD IT CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES AND TOLD THERE WASN'T A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING, THEN IT IT STARTED MAKING A GRINDING SOUND WHEN THE WHEEL WAS TURNED, KEPT GETTING WORSE UNTIL THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVE ABLE, AND IT WAS STORED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS RECALLED, BUT TOLD THE STEERING IS NOT. FORD SAYS IT NEEDS A NEW RACK AND PINON BUT IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY, AS OUR COMPLAINT WE TURNED IN WHEN IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY HAD BEEN WIPED OUT, DUE TO A NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM. IT ONLY HAS 32,000 MILES ON IT, AND NOW THEY WANT $2200 TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINON.
RECENLTLY WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE OF SYMPTOMS, MY FORD 2014 FORD FOCUS DISPLAYED STEERING ASSIST FAULT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR AND LEAVE THE OFFICE. THE CAR LOST ALL POWER STEERING. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE POWER STEERING WAS RESTORED AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME WITHOUT FURTHER ISSUE. THE CAR PERFOMED FINE FOR THE NEXT WEEK. THE FOLLOWING WEEK, THE CAR DISPLAYED THE SAME FAULT, BUT THIS TIME THE RESTART TRICK DID NOT WORK. I TRIED MANY OF THE SUPPOSED FIXES DISCUSSED ON THE INTERNET, BUT NONE OF THEM WORKED. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE SHOP AS I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR. FURTHER INVESTIGATING ON THE INTERNET REVEALED NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME NATURE. I REACHED OUT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND WAS HUNG UP ON EACH TIME. THEY PEOPLE AT THE CALL CENTER ARE...
SOMETIMES WHEN I'M BACKING UP, THE POWER STEERING QUITS AND I CAN'T TURN THE WHEEL, WHICH CAN RESULT IN A CRASH. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN, ONE OR MORE TIMES BEFORE IT WILL WORK. SO, WHILE I HAVE NO POWER STEERING, I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF ROAD, BLOCKING TRAFFIC, AND HOPING I DON'T GET HIT FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE.!

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED PREVIOUSLY, HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT ASSIST AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN CAUSE ME TO HIT A CURB IN A CITY AND THEN A LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH SAYING POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE STEERING IS VERY HARD AND STICKS THEN RELEASE. UNSAFE TO DRIVE. SCARED TO EVER DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN.

SHE HAD TROUBLE STEERING THROUGH THE "S" TURNS ON THE EXIT RAMP. SHE CAME TO THE INTERSECTION, LUCKILY THE LIGHT WAS GREEN AND SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO STOP TO TURN RIGHT, BUT IT WASN'T MUCH HELP. WHILE TURNING ONTO ANOTHER TWO LANE HIGHWAY SHE ALMOST HIT THE CONCRETE MEDIUM...
CAR RECEIVED A STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT SERVICE REQUIRED CODE. LEFT US WITH NI POWER STEERING. CAR ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT. WARRANTY EXPIRED DUE TO HAVING CAR OVER 6 YEARS. IRONICALLY THE WARRANTY EXPIRED THE SAME DAY THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES LIKE THIS UNTIL FORD MECHANICS WORKED ON THE TRANSMISSION RECALL A WEEK PRIOR AND THEN GOT THIS CODE THE VERY NEXT WEEK.CAR WAS STATIONARY IN A WALMART PARKING LOT. CODE IS CONTINUOUS ON CAR AND WE ARE NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE IT.

'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT' CAME UP A FEW WEEKS AGO. I SHUT IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT CLEARED. WENT TO START IT UP TODAY AND THE FAULT WAS ON AS I PULLED OUT OF THE GARAGE. STAYED ON STOPPING AND STARTING 5 TIMES. ALSO DROVE IT AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THIS WILL BE A SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO IS SUPPOSED TO DRIVE THIS CAR.

WE DID THIS AND EACH TIME IT WAS STILL VERY HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. FINALLY, AFTER WAITING A LITTLE LONGER I STARTED THE CAR AND IT SEEMED TO BE ABLE TO MOVE BUT WAS STILL VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING. NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. LUCKY THERE WERE NO OTHERS ON THE ROAD. FORD DEALERSHIP SAID RACK AND PINION NEEDED REPLACING. 2 WEEKS LATER THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED. HAD ALREADY BEEN RE-PROGRAMMED AS PART OF THE 14M02 PROGRAM. THIS DIDN'T FIX THE JUDDERING AND POOR GEAR PERFORMANCE. DEALER SAYS TRANSMISSION IS BROKEN AND NONE OF THE CUSTOMER PROGRAMS APPLY.

THE READ WILL SAY 98 MILES UNTIL YOU NEED GAS BUT IF YOU DONT PUT GAS IN BEFORE THEN THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF AND THAT READS AT ABOUT A QUARTER TANK OF GAS. THEN THERES TIMES I GET INTO THE CAR TO GO AND THE STEERING COLUMN WILL LOCK TO WHERE YOU CANT EVEN TURN THE WHEEL. I LOOKED IT UP AND I SEE THERES BEEN PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUMN PLUS IT LITES UP IN THE CAR STEERING WHEEL DEFAULT I CALLED THE FORD BUT THERE SAYING THERE IS NO RECALL ON ANY OF THE TWO THINGS IM TALKING ABOUT. ITS NOT SAFE WHAT IF THE WHEEL DECIDES...
YESTERDAY I NOTICED THAT MY STEERING SEEMED A LITTLE HARD TO KEEP GOING STRAIGHT. TODAY WHEN I GOT IN AND STARTED DRIVING MY CAR FLASHED A "STEERING FAILURE GET CHECKED" MESSAGE AND WAS EVEN HARDER TO DRIVE. I MADE IT TO MY APPOINTMENT AND WHEN I LEFT 30 MINUTES LATER AND TURNED MY CAR ON I HAD A NEW MESSAGE, "STEERING LOSS STOP SAFELY". NOW I CAN'T EVEN MOVE MY STEERING WHEEL. LUCKILY I WASN'T ON THE EXPRESSWAY GOING 70 MPH WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
MY SON AND I STOPPED AT A REST AREA ON A ROAD TRIP. WHEN MY SON STARTED THE ENGINE TO CONTINUE THE TRIP HE RECEIVED THE ERROR CODE "STEERING ASSIST FAULT, SERVICE NOW". WE WENT TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO LOOK AT THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND IF I WAS COMFORTABLE DRIVING WITHOUT POWER STEERING IT WOULDN'T HURT ANYTHING ELSE. SINCE MY 1ST CAR DIDN'T HAVE POWER STEERING I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A GO. WHEN WE REACHED OUR FINAL DESTINATION WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED TO HAVE THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED AT A COST OF $2,400. THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING THEME WITH THE FORD FOCUS. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THIS WOULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE MY SON WAS DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON THE...
MY SEATBELT HARDLY EVER BUCKLES. I'VE HAD TO JAM IT A FEW TIMES IN ORDER FOR IT TO FINALLY CLICK. MY STAIRWELL HAS NEVER BEEN ALIGNED WITH MY TIRES, AND MY BRAKES WERE ALWAYS JANKY
POWER STEERING FAILURE, THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP ONE DAY WHEN I WENT TO THE STORE,I STARTED THE CAR& THE POWER STEERING WAS LOCKED AND EXTREMLY HARD TO STEER, I FINALLY DROVE IT HOME WHICH WAS ABOUT 15 MILES, I HAD TO DRIVE VERY SLOW BECAUSE IT WAS VERY HARD TO STEER, THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A STORE PARKING LOT AND WHEN I RETURNED TO THE CAR IT WAS VERY HEAVY TO TURN THE WHEEL I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT HOME BUT I DIDNT WANT TO LEAVE IT OVERNIGHT IN A STORE PARKING LOT...
WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT IT WOULD MAKE A GRINDING NOISE AT ALL SPEEDS ON BACKROADS OR HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ALSO, WHEN GOING STRAIGHT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT PATH AND TAKES RESISTANCE. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THEY STATED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE IN THE COMPUTER FOR THE STEERING SYSTEM CAUSING IT TO MALFUNCTION.
THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILURE LIGHT APPEARED AND NO ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE WHAT SO EVER SINCE IT IS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. MY DAUGHTER ALMOST CRASHED INTO ANOTHER CAR WHILE GOING STRAIGHT. WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. ABSOLUTELY NO ABILITY TO TURN THE WHEEL WITH OUT BREAKING IT OFF THE STEERING COLUMN. ALSO HAD TEMPORARY FAILURE WHEN THE WINTEWR TEMPS WENT WELL BELOW FREEZING BUR EVENTUALLY THE STEERING WOULD COME BACK ONLINE ONCE THE CAR WARMED UP (UP TO 45 MINUTES). VERY DANGEROUS!!!
POWER STEERING WENT OUT MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER. IT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT RANDOMLY. WE DROVE OUR FORD FOCUS TO A FRIENDS HOUSE, TURNED IT OFF, HUNG OUT WITH THEM, AND WHEN WE TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, IT SAID WE NEEDED TO GET THE STEERING SERVICED. IT'S VERY HARD TO STEER AND MAKE TURNS AT LOW MPH
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND "STEERING FAILED PULL OVER" APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
TWO DIFFERENT INCIDENTS: (3/13/18) WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE LIGHT CAME ON "STEERING ASSIST FAULT - SERVICE REQUIRED". AFTER THAT, PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES BEFORE TURNING BACK ON. AFTER RESTARTING, THE STEERING WORKED OKAY AGAIN. HAD THIS LATER CHECKED BY ASTORIA FORD, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG (EVEN AFTER RUNNING THE CODES). THEN ON 3/15/19, GOT IN THE VEHICLE AND STARTED IT AND THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS TIME EVEN AFTER STOPPING AND RE-STARTING THE ENGINE (WAITING @ 5-10 MINUTES) THE LIGHT REMAINED ON AND THERE WAS NO STEERING. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE IS AT A ASTORIA AAMCO GETTING CHECKED THOROUGHLY BY A VERY COMPETENT, HIGHLY EXPERIENCED MECHANIC TO GET THIS RESOLVED FOR OUR SAFETY.
