The dealer removed tires and broken axel bolt was found. It is my understanding that this is a safety issue and Ford has no parts to fix the problem.
Heard a rattling noise from rear passenger side wheel. Axle nut is sheared off and freely moving around inside the hub. Looked online and this appears to be common with my vehicle. Ford has not issued a recall still.
HD rear axle bolt at end of axle shaft breaks. This WOULD be addressed by Ford customer satisfaction program 22B34, except the program only covers 2021 vehicles manufactured AFTER 01 May 2021. My vehicle was manufactured in November 2020. This program needs to be expanded to include ALL vehicles with the 9.75" 4/4-Float HD axle from the beginning of the model year build.
The exact circumstances highlighted in Customer Satisfaction Program 22B34, which outlines the recall necessary for replacement of axle bolts and axles after the axle bolt shears off while driving. The recall is for trucks from the Kansas City manufacturing plant and the recall only covers trucks made until 30 September 2021. My truck was manufactured in October 2021. This recall was in place for Certain 2021-2022 Model Year F-150 Vehicles Equipped with 9.75” HD Axle – ¾ Float Axle Rear Axle Half-Shaft and Hub Assembly Replacements The axle bolt sheared off my truck's drivers side rear axle. Ford is replacing it under the drivetrain warranty. They are unwilling to replace the other side because I am not included in the current recall (outside of the parameters by only few days). The recall specifically identifies that both sides should be replaced if one side breaks. The pictures outlined in Customer Satisfaction...
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after shifting from reverse(R) to drive(D), the vehicle independently accelerated without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the dealer failed to duplicate the failure. The dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer to file a complaint. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed; however, the case was denied, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000. The VIN was not available.
TRANSMISSION IS DOWNSHIFTING HARD WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR SLOWING DOWN. THIS REPEATEDLY HAPPENS WHEN DOWNSHIFTING FROM 7TH TO 6TH GEAR AND IT HITS EVEN HARDER WHEN IT GOES FROM 6TH TO 5TH. TRANSMISSION DELIVERS A SLAMMING HIT TO THE POINT IT FEELS LIKE REAR END ACCIDENT, TO THE POINT NECK HAS BECOME SORE FROM WHAT FEELS LIKE WHIPLASH. TRUCK HAS UPCOMING APPT AT DEALER TO LOOKED AT. NO LIGHTS OR WARNING MESSAGES APPEAR WHEN THIS HAPPENS.
The rear axel bolt sheared off. I started to hear a rattle called ford to see when I could get my truck in to get it looked at. Got an appointment set up 2 months down the road was the soonest they could get me in. While waiting for that time truck stated to vibrate. I decided to try a tire rotation and I had the rear axel bolt drop to the ground. Not sure exactly when I started hearing the rattle. They safety was the tire could have come off while driving which could have caused an accident which could have caused injuries or death of my family or others. I called ford back they told me to have it towed in so they could look at it right away. So in 4 days my truck will be towed there for inspection. No warning lights about the bolt but...
Upon doing an oil change and tire rotation at the Ford dealer I was informed that the rear axle hub bolt had sheared off and was sitting lose at the end of the axle. Upon doing research I have found that many 2021 Ford 150s have had this problem and Ford knows about the problem but has not issued a recall. I am being told that Ford recommends that the axle and bolt be replaced. My dealer has no loaners available. Also, the dealer, Harris Ford in Lynnwood, WA, tells me the parts are back ordered and have no idea when the repair can be made. This is dangerous and Ford should have issued a recall. Now I have no use of my truck and no date that the repair can be completed.
Bought truck brand new. The axle bolt sheered off at 76k miles which is a common problem which ford has issued a service bulletin for repair. Ford claims my truck is not drivable due to the manufacture defect of the bolt either being cross threaded or overtightened from the factory. Ford is insisting I pay for the mistake even though it's a manufacture defect with a service bulletin for a repair. Ford is refusing to pay for the fix due to miles. Axles, axle shafts and axle bolts should not have to be replaced before the differential fluid does in the axle at 100k miles. They are claiming the extreme premature wear is my fault. The truck is bone stock. Ford case #CAS-43720120-D7H6Y6. Worst part is Ford dealership telling me claim was denied to only find out Ford approved the claim partially. The Ford dealership was trying to double dip...
The axle bolt (wheel hub end bolt) on the rear axle (driver side) broke leaving part of the bolt inside the axle and the broken end inside the wheel assembly along with the large washer the bolt had secured to the axle. A cursory exam of the broken piece indicates it occurred some time ago from the smooth end of the broken part of the bolt. There were no warning lights or indicators. The broken bolt and washer were discovered during a routine tire rotation. No one other than the Ford dealer I took the vehicle to for routine maintenance has inspected the vehicle. The vehicle has 20400 miles on it and no after-market modifications. This defect potentially endangered my family and I since the axle can now move and possibly reduce propulsion or cause a loss of power. There are hundreds of other owners with the same vehicle package...
Started with check engine light for cylinder 5 misfire and engine was running rough with loss of power. Took the truck to dealer and dealer reports compression loss as reason for engine failure. After doing some research there appears to be a major issue with the same engine (2.7 ecoboost) of the same year(2021) reported for the Bronco and F150 for catastrophic engine failure. I suspect this is the same engine failure that my truck experienced.
At routine maintenance it was discovered the bolt which retains the rear axle on the passenger-side of the vehicle had sheared off and was FOI d within the wheel hub.
Fractured /sheared rear axle bolt on passenger side.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission experienced hard shifting from sixth to fifth gear. Additionally, while in the ECO Mode, the vehicle would not properly accelerate from a stationary position. During the failure, the transmission shifted to eighth gear with a loud whining sound coming from the vehicle however, the vehicle would not accelerate as needed. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.
Drivers side and passenger side rear axle end bolt. I called my local FORD dealer and was told that the truck in not safe to drive and to call Roadside Assistance and have my vehicle transported to the nearest FORD dealer for repair. This is somewhat of a common problem as reported on the F150 vehicle user groups and this is the second time that it has happened on this vehicle. My local FORD dealer replaced the passenger side axle when this happened the first time. The only warning of this failure is a rattle during vehicle low speed operation due to centripetal force not allowing the bolt and washer to rattle in the cavity covered by the Logo axle cover. I was only able to notice this rattle due to it being on the drivers side during low speeds. When this occurred on the passenger side I did not...
The passenger side rear axle bolt sheared off and could be heard rattling inside the wheel/hub. Dealership showed the bolt to us and said it's common with the newer body style F-150's. My wife was heading out this weekend to drive back home to Illinois from here in Montana. Now she's stuck here until next week at the earliest.
The Transmission slips into neutral when moving slow and trying to accelerate, also when sitting at traffic light waiting for an opening from on coming traffic when I try to turn it will start to move and then slip into neutral. I almost got hit by oncoming traffic a few times.also the Transmission jerks very hard when shifting up from low gear.
Broken bolt that holds axle to wheel hub, leaking differential oil
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 22V142000 (Visibility) and 22V623000 (Power Train, Structure) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
While driving, particularly when accelerating or climbing an incline, the transmission clunks, bangs, lurches and hesitates. It makes driving the vehicle unpredictable. This is distracting and unsafe as it means that the driver is not confident in consistent acceleration and control of the vehicle. Also, other drives may be at some risk because this new vehicle is not traveling along the roadway as would normally expected.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the transmission shifted hard into the next gear. The contact stated that the transmission also downshifted very hard. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.
My latest transmission problem is most noticeable in Tow/Haul mode. It is also the most concerning and dangerous. At higher speeds, such as on the interstate, when braking for some reason, such as traffic congestion, the transmission downshifts and the r.p.m. slows as it should. However around 2nd or 3rd gear and 1,900 r.p.m. the engine speed abruptly increases to around 3,500 r.p.m. and then begins to decrease again. This has happened with or without a utility trailer attached. Luckily I have not had my 24 foot car hauler and 5,000 pound limousine behind me on the way to a car show. With or without a trailer, God only knows what would happen if I relied on adaptive cruise control. I don't use it.
Heard a loud clanging noise coming from the right rear tire area of the truck. I removed the center cap on my tire and noticed the axel bolt was sheared off. I drove to the dealership, they looked it over and kept the truck to repair it. They have to order the parts and not sure when it will be fixed. They did mention that they had seen another F150 with the same problem.
My pickup was at the dealer getting an oil change and tire rotation (23140 miles) and I was informed that the right rear axle bolt had sheared requiring replacement of the axle assembly and that it was not safe for me to drive the vehicle off the lot. This is the second time that the right rear axle bolt has sheared. The first time, the axle assembly was replaced at this same dealer at 14482 miles. I no longer have the original bolt that sheared, I will request the second sheared bolt so it could be inspected if needed. I do not know what the safety ramifications are except to say that both times, Ford said it was not safe for me to drive the truck off the lot. There are numerous reports of rear axle bolts shearing in 2021/2022 F-150s with the Max Tow package (apparently, this package has...
The 10 speed transmission used in Ford vehicles is plagued with problems to include, skipping gears while shifting, very harsh upshifts and very harsh downshifts. It's just a matter of time when a failure of this transmission will cause a serious accident. My 2021 F150 exhibits this behavior on a frequent basis yet the Ford dealers tell me this behavior is normal. Every Ford F150 owner I have spoken too are experiencing the same problems. Why isn't NHTSA doing anything about this? Or does it only matter when an accident occurs where is loss of life?
Driving down the freeway, horn started blaring and power completely went out in car -engine steering etc The dealership is replacing the computer in the vehicle
Truck was due for oil change and tire rotation so I brought it to the dealer I purchased it from on Friday, 24-Feb-2024. When the service tech removed the driver side rear tire, the spindle nut securing the wheel hub to the axle fell on the ground due to a fracture (picture attached) in the mating threaded part of the axle. Was informed of customer satisfaction campaign 22B34 and a replacement part was ordered and installed the next day. The failure occurred sometime between 01-Sep-2022 at 19,384 miles when the tires were last rotated and 24-Feb-2023 at 28,085 miles. It appears to have occurred some time ago as the fracture portion is oxidized and there's quite a bit of marking to the outer circumference as I assume it was rattling around in the wheel assembly for some time.
Truck has 30,129 miles driven. As car shifted into gear to drive, it suddenly went into neutral gear while driving. This was following a loud bang like sound followed by a rough shift into neutral. Truck eventually shifted back into gear. Truck has been at dealership for about a month, waiting for parts to repair/replace the transmission. Dealer service provider stated that this was a manufacturing problem.
Took our vehicle in for regularly scheduled maintenance - oil change and tire rotation. Received a call from the dealership stating that when they removed the left rear tire the axle retainer bolt was broken and fell out. The service technician phoned to let us know that this needs to be fixed and would have to order parts. Also informed us that there is CSP BULLETIN 22B34 issued on February 14, 2023 for certain 2021 F150’s. This recall only pertains to vehicles built between May and September 2021. Our truck was built in December 2021 and is not included in this bulletin. However, my vehicle has experienced the same critical failure as trucks built between May and September. In addition, this part is on a national back order with no known date of when the part will be available. I am bringing this matter to your attention because this is...
Ford has issued two recalls for my vehicle. I've included the Campaign/NHTSA# for each below. 22S53/22V623 22S26/22V250 In each case I have sought to have the vehicle repaired and in each case my dealer has said that Ford does not have parts available for their service department to make the repair. I've waited a reasonable time without any update from either Ford or my dealer prior to submitting this complaint. Ford has an obligation to make recall repairs within a reasonable time of announcing the recall. Their failure to do so could place consumers in danger. Otherwise, why would they initiate the recall in the first place? Anyway, I thought this was unacceptable and felt the need to complain. Thanks, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
UNKNOWN: I was driving through light to moderate rain. I was following traffic probably at about 35 mph. I was driving in normal mode (no cruise control active) I saw a warning message out of the corner of my eye pop up on my dash (I didn't see what it was because it went away quickly after it came up). Soon after that, a bunch of warning messages started popping up on my dash one after the other. Then my engine shut off (dash still working, sync still working, power steering still working, brakes still working). Luckily, I was able make a turn and then coast into a gas station. Could have been a different story if I was somewhere else. I came to a stop, put it in park, (this is the unfortunate part, I franticly clicked through all the warnings without reading them), then I pressed the start...
Rear Axle bolt broke while driving. I have visited the dealer and made an appointment. They have told me that the truck should not be driven aggressively, and that they will have the truck for a few days for the repair. After being on Ford Forum, I am seeing that this is a common faulty part that seems to be occurring quite often. In some cases both axle bolts on the same vehicle has broken. We are in the winter months and this is causing my 4 -Wheel drive to not operate/function correctly.
The truck makes a loud clunking noise when shifting from park to drive. It also gets stuck in first gear sometimes and I have to turn the truck off and wait a little bit and restart it.
Rear passenger side axle bolt sheared off at 15k miles. This seems to be a known issue with many other F150 owners.
The axle bolt sheared off at some point since the last tire rotation. The truck has approximately 55,000 miles on the odometer and the last tire rotation was performed at 35,000 miles. Somewhere in the 35,000 to 55,000 mile time frame the bolt on the end of the axle sheared off. When the wheel was removed at 55,000 miles the bolt head and washer fell out. The only thing that has been done to the rear wheels are tire rotations. No other maintenance that would require the hub or brake assembly to be removed has been performed.
Driving in the morning to work and heard a noise on 12/07/22. Made appointment to take to Ford dealer for 12/08/22. The did inspection and found an axle hub bolt broken. Said it was unsafe to drive like that.
When I was going to back in my drive way the truck would not come out of drive. Tried shutting truck off to reset it and would not reset. Truck was now not able to move had to have it towed into dealer ship. This could be very dangerous situation
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 57 MPH, the vehicle independently accelerated, without warning. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle decelerated and then proceeded to operate normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and but no cause for the failure was found. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 91,000.
Rear passenger axel bolt broken and leaking diff fluid from hub of wheel.
I purchased a 2021 Ford F-150 pick-up truck for my business in September 2022 with ~12,000 miles. I took it to my local auto mechanic on Sa-11/26/22 for it's first oil change & tire rotation at ~15,000 miles. Upon my mechanic rotating my tires, he found the sheared-off axle bolt on the rear/passenger side (pictures & mechanic write-up available). My mechanic stated he believes the axle bolt was over torqued/tightened in the factory and not a result of daily driving usage... Answers to Above Questions: > Rear/Passenger Side Wheel: Axle Bolt SHEARED-OFF; Pictures & mechanic write-up available > My mechanic informed me I was a very "lucky" person that I didn't get into a serious vehicle accident due this axle bolt being sheared-off; I was strongly advised by my mechanic that I should NOT drive my truck until repaired > My truck was towed to an authorized Ford dealership and...
Transmission keeps having difficulty finding gear. Repeatedly changes gears hard. Mostly during down shifts. When accelerating when it is already at a higher gear the truck shutters. Ford reprogrammed it. Still has problems. Says there isn’t anything else they can do. I’m just waiting for the transmission to completely crap to bed before warranty is up.
On certain occasions, the transmission will make a banging noise while causing the truck to jerk forward when the vehicle has to upshift such as taking off from an intersection but rarely jerks when the vehicle is downshifting. Also, while using the adaptive cruise control system, the vehicle will travel close to the right or middle lane as if it is looking for the pavement striping and then move back over to the center of the lane. With the adaptive cruise system, when the vehicle is supposed to be in the center of the lane, the system slightly turns the the wheel as if it is having trouble staying in the center of the lane. The vehicle also has a CSP for unintended tailgate opening. i have an appointment set for November 18th but have been trying to get in touch with the service advisor that was assigned to me...
This is the third rear axle bolt that has broken on this truck. It was found during a flat repair.
The the head of the rear axle bolt on the passenger side has sheered off. This is the bolt which holds the rear axel shaft connected to the brake assembly. This broke at least 2 weeks before it was officially discovered on August 9th of 2022. Ford has yet to provide a clear date on when the replacement part will be provided. They claim the enter axel shaft needs to be replaced and that the replacement SHOULD come off of back order at the end of October 2022. They told me this same thing back in August, that i would have my part by the end of August. The internet is ablaze with this issue.
The passenger side rear hub bolt sheared off. My mechanic found it while rotating my tires. I called the Ford dealership and they advised me that I am not to drive it and have it towed for repair. I tow a travel trailer which is within the limits of the truck and I'm thankful that it was not a catastrophic failure that caused the wheel to fall off and cause an accident.
9.75HD Rear axle retaining bolt sheared off.
The bolts that holds the wheel assemblies to the axle have both broke off. Right side in February and the left side in September. It allows the wheel and brake rotor assembly to move in and out on the axle shaft. The only thing holding the wheel on the truck is the brake rotor assembly. It was found during a tire rotation.
No part failure confirmed by Ford. Transmission has very hard downshift at highway speeds from 10th gear to 8th gear under moderate throttle causing the rear wheels to chirp. Had this happened during cold months it could have caused me to spin out. Ford states transmission is normal yet previous TSBs show consistent issues with the 10r80 transmission from My 2018 and up in regards to harsh, delayed shifts. No warning lamp other than traction/stability control flashed. I have had the dealer look but was told it is normal as with other drivers. I can't understand how chirping the tires on a down shift under moderate throttle can be considered normal.
I took truck in for an oil change and the service sept advised me that during the tire rotation they discovered the Axle bolt sheered off of driver side rear axle from normal use of truck. Dealer said ford advised them that the truck must sit till the axle is replaced due to it being a safety hazard to drive. My truck is now sitting at dealer waiting for a replacement axle.
Upon getting into the vehicle, it was noticed that there was gear oil leaking all over the rear passenger wheel prompting me to remove the wheel cap. Inside, the axle nut that connects to the axle shaft was completely sheared off and not connected. I am not sure how long it was like this, but from my experience without this nut the axle could have slid into the differential causing a rear axle failure, if that were at highway speeds, or in descent while pulling a trailer that could have been very serious. The broken parts are with the vehicle at the servicing dealership Currently the vehicle is at the dealer being repaired. Due to part shortages and as noted by the dealer being unsafe to drive I will be without a vehicle for 3-4 weeks possibly. The problem has been reproduced by multiple other truck owners noted online in...
