2015 FORD F-150 Power Train Problems

Truck began reviving at high idle after throwing a check engine light, then wrench light as I was driving. I was able to safely get off the road. Shut it down wouldn't restart. I let it sit for 4 hrs, it started then I began driving again as there was no indication of an issue before. At 50mph it happened again. truck goes into first gear shifts automatically at any speed

2015 Ford F150 with 6R80 transmission. No warning lights, transmission down shited from 6th gear @55mph to 1st gear followed by complete transmission failure and loss of power. This took place on I26 in South Carolina near Spartanburg. Was then towed to a transmission repair shop in Greenville SC where the transmission had to be rebuilt (6 month lead time for new replacement from Ford). Invoice attached. The transmission range sensor has failed on my F150. This made my truck go into limp mode and unable to start. The Ford dealership replaced the lead frame and TRS as it was burnt out. The new TRS then began to automatically downshift while I was driving on the highway. It went from 6 gear to 4th back to 6th and then briefly to 1st making my truck lose power before going back to 6th gear while I was driving at 70 mph. Experiencing sudden hard shifting with the 6r80 transmission. Have had wheels lock up once. Issues with the lead frame as well

Hard clunk from first to second shift. The wrench light comes on, telling you to check the manual. Vehicle stays in 3rd gear. Will not shift into 6th gear. Will not downshift into 2nd or 1st gear. stays in 3rd gear at a dead stop. The problem was independently reproduced.

While operating on my daily commute at approximately 40-50 mph, the vehicle suddenly downshifted from 5th gear to 3rd, with no throttle input change. Following a commanded full stop of the vehicle, upon accelerating, the vehicle seemed to be slipping into each gear. A short duration later, the vehicle prompted me with an orange wrench symbol on the instrument panel and the phrase "see manual." The vehicle would then only shift down as low as 3rd gear and appeared to be in a limp mode with no 1st or 2nd gear until shut off and restarted. I then took it to my local Ford dealer and had it diagnosed as a "P0722, pinpoint OSS sensor failure." It was repaired with a new lead frame on December 10th, 2025.

Shutter from the torque converter and sudden down shifting. There was no accident but the problem exceeded to point where I had to get my transmission rebuild, it cost me about 3,700 to rebuild it.

My pickup is a 2015 F-150 4WD Supercrew (5.0/6 speed auto). I was driving on an Interstate and pulling a loaded flatbed trailer. The transmission was in the “towing” mode. While leaving a rest area my truck would not shift up from first gear. Driving on a freeway at 70mph all the sudden engine reved up and warning lite with wrench 🔧 to see owners manual came on, transmission down shifted and truck felt like it has loss of power. While driving reduced acceleration removed foot of gass pedal, truck slowed down to 40mph warning lite disappear and was driving normally. Few months later the same warning lite came on and downshift happened again at 35mph, good thing it was not on busy street.

Was driving at 50mph on hiway, all the sudden truck has loss of power and engine shut off, coasted down to stop, put truck in par, stared the car and drove another 5 miles and same thing happened again. No warning lite, no error messages was present when shut off happened nor during OBS scan at later time was. When second shut off happened there was a shift down happened. Not sure if the transmission speed sensor has something to do with engine shut off.

Sudden downshift and locking in lower gear, not shifting especially in tow haul mode but somtimes just driving in standard mode.

I really thought that it was me, the one that caused this problem by gently pressing the gas pedal when the transmission was downshifting and approaching a traffic light is when this condition always occurred and the transmission was kicking or having dificulties of downshifting. 2.How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? NO 3.Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? NO 4.Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? NO 5.Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO My truck have less than 40,000 miles.

Hard down shift while driving locking up rear wheels almost cause an accident has happen 3 times now no trouble code can’t figure out what causing engine to down shift extremely hard have not driven truck long distances because of incidents lucky all three times it has happend no one was behind me the most recent time on 1/3/26. The transmission will sporadically shift hard and make a squeal noise on acceleration and deceleration between 20 and 50 MPH. Yes it's available for inspection. It has never stopped completely so the risk factor is unknown. Not reported to dealer or independent mechanic at this time nor has it been inspected by the manufacturer or government agency. There are no warning lights dash messages ever displayed.

My truck started going into neutral while going in reverse, would rev up going forward and go into neutral or limp mode.

But there has also been times when merging onto the freeway way where it would do the same when about to merge on as well it’s happened a few different times.

I was driving down the road at 45mph and the vehicle suddenly shifted into 1st gear and rapidly slowed down. A malfunction indicator came on, I shut the vehicle off thinking it was a glitch, then the vehicle wouldn't restart. This occured in midday traffic, which could've caused a crash. Never had any previous issues with the vehicle. It cost me $1854 to have this repaired at the Ford dealer, they stated the lead frame connector had failed.

Was driving my truck to work and all of a sudden it down shifted from gear 6 to gear 4. Then through up the wrench icon on dash. Would not come out of 4th gear. Code was p0720. Output shaft speed sensor. Once code was cleared, it was ok again for about 20 miles then did it again.

First time my transmission downshifted to 1st gear coming to a stop at approximately 35mph while gently braking. The leadframe turned out to be defective. Approximately 60k miles later the same symptom and same failure. The leadframe was replaced and that solved the problem.

Truck is shifting into low gear while at highway speed cause load thump or bang

When accelerating and decelerating the vehicle jerks and responds erratically. We had just had it at the dealership for its 80k mile maintenance. They did a transmission flush. We thought it was related but when we brought it back in, we were told that the mold leadframe would require replacing.

While driving at normal speeds, the transmission hesitates and pops when shifting into 4th gear. The vehicle slows down unexpectedly before shifting and will suddenly downshift without warning. This causes abrupt deceleration and creates a safety concern, especially at highway speeds. The issue occurs intermittently and without driver input. Even when I’m in normal gears it will downshift and cause me to slow and lose control even when I am not breaking. It occurs at just 35 mph- highway speeds.

On [XXX], I was driving the vehicle and accelerating onto the [XXX] freeway from an on-ramp in northern Phoenix, Arizona. During acceleration, the truck suddenly and violently downshifted, producing an abrupt jerking motion that forcibly displaced the vehicle out of the accelerating gear and into a lower gear without warning or driver input. While in 6th gear driving on the highway at 70 mph the truck downshifted to 3rd and drastically decelerated. When this happened the instrument display went from having all 6 gear numbers viable to only 1 - 3. It had to be put into Manual Mode and shifted into 6th manually. After a Ford recall on software update for Transmission, the transmission is now starting to fail and downshift for no apparent reason, causing the rears wheels to lock up.

I have had 2 instances of my F150 downshifting at highway speeds to 2nd gear while driving. I was not towing a trailer, just driving normally in both cases on my daily commute to work. 10-11-25 Transmission changed on its own from 6 gear going 63mph to first or second gear to 13mph (what I seen after realizing what happened) I already had it into Ford for sensor warnings before this and they couldn't find the problem. Now work is done and first gear is rough, and it still acts up towing a trailer. I take it back in on the 20th because I was not offered a rent a car or loaner and they think it's a clutch problem now. Ford will not help with repairs or take blame that this could have been a very bad situation if a semi was behind me. This is a known issue for 2015-2017 models.

I was driving my 2015 Ford F150 and just pulled into the parking lot. The lights on the dash started going off (airbags, parking detectors, big wrench, etc), however the vehicle driving wasn't affected at that time. I immediately stopped and parked, When I returned to my vehicle it had full power, but wouldn't even attempt to start. I had no choice but to tow it to a nearby Ford dealership in Grapevine, TX. It was ultimately diagnosed with a bad "Transmission Lead Harness." The dealership told me that this was a recall item on many F150s, but for some reason, not on mine. I researched this specific issue and found that 2011-2016 models of F150 were affected. It shows an investigation was opened for 2015 models as well. My question is why my specific vehicle is not under a recall. This could be a potentially dangerous issue, i'd think....
