WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN GETTING ON THEY HIGHWAY WHEN STEERING GOT HARD, MAKING IT HARD TO TURN ALMOST GETTING IN AN ACCIDENT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON BUT WENT BACK OFF. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ,WENT BACK OFF. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE FEBRUARY, CALLED LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP BASICALLY WAS TOLD NO RECALL, NO COMPLAINTS, BUT THEY CALL LOOK AT IT AT OUR COST. IT'S GOTTEN WORSE,SINCE THEN GOING AROUND CURVES OR MAKING TURNS IT TAKES FULL STRENGTH TO MAKE THE TURN . SOME TIMES ITS EASY LIKE IT SHOULD BE .BROUGHT IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP TO SEE WHAT THEY SAY AND AFTER LOOKING AT IT ,THEY SAID IT NEEDS,TO GO TO DEALERSHIP THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT .THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND WAITED THIRTY MINUTES TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER HAD NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK ON A CITY STREET, UPON TURNING INTO A DRIVEWAY THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. THIS CAUSED A REAL PROBLEM TRYING TO CORRECT THE TURN. UPON INVESTIGATING THIS IT HAS COME TO LIGHT THAT THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST STEERING. NOT ONLY ON THIS 2011 F150, BUT VARIOUS OTHER FORD MODELS AND YEARS OF MANUFACTURE. THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED. I BELIEVE IT IS TIME TO ISSUE A RECALL BECAUSE THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND FORD SHOULD OWN UP TO THIS PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR YEARS! WHY SHOULD THE CONSUMER BE PUT INTO THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION AND EXPENSIVE REPAIR? IT'S TIME NHTSA TO STAND UP AND TELL FORD TO FIX THIS PROBLEM! WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE FAULT CODE FOR TIMING CHAIN P0016 CAME ON AND ENGINE SEIZED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKE POWER WHICH CAUSED ME TO ALMOST COLLIDE WITH OTHER VEHICLES TRYING TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY WITH NO POWER. AFTER FINALLY GETTING TRUCK ON THE OFF RAMP IT TOOK ALL I HAD TO GET IT TO STOP AT THE INTERSECTION PUTTING MY LIFE AND THE DRIVER OF THE SUV AT THE INTERSECTION LIFE IN DANGER.
STEERING IS STIFF WHEN COLD, AND WHILE MAKING TURNS IT STICKS IN THE TURN POSITION AND IS DIFFICULT TO CORRECT WHILE DRIVING.
WHILE DRIVING THE OTHER DAY MY STEERING GOT REALLY HARD TO TURN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THEN IT WORKED NORMALLY. IT HAS SINCE HAPPEN A COUPLE TIMES USUALLY WHILE MAKING A TURN - I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE IF IT HAPPENS IN A TURN I MIGHT HIT SOMEONE. I HAVE SINCE READ THAT SOME VEHICLES ARE BEING RECALLED - BUT DIDN'T SEE MINE. THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO COVER ALL ELECTRIC POWER STEERING VEHICLES.
TAKATA RECALL: AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS SAT FOR AN EXTENDED AMOUNT OF TIME, 8+ HOURS, THE STEERING COLUMN OR RACK SEEMS TO LOCK UP. WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO START THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE, YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY STEERING RESPONSE FROM THE RACK. THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED IN PLACE WITH ONLY 15-20 DEGREES WORTH OF 'PLAY'. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO STICK PERIODICALLY WHILE NAVIGATING DOWN ROADS (CITY AND HIGHWAY). WHEN THE ROAD CURVES AND YOU TURN, THE STEERING SEEMS TO CLICK, OR JUMP A LITTLE, MAKING THE VEHICLE OVER REACT. THIS HAS CAUSED MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS TO OTHERS, AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED AT THIS TIME FOR THE 2011 MODEL YEAR BY FORD.
THE STEERING IS NOW HARD. THE EPS NO LONGER IS WORKING. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND IT JUST BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER.
FIRST PROBLEM IS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. TODAY I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK EVERYTHING WORKING FINE, MODERATE TRAFFIC, AND I HAPPENED UPON A SHARP CURVE IN THE ROAD WHERE I COMPLETELY LOST ELECTRIC POWER STEERING AND ALMOST CAREENED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I PULLED OVER TO GATHER MYSELF AND SLOWLY DROVE TO THE CLOSEST PULL OFF. SUDDENLY MY POWER STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES NOW. FORD CANT FIND ANYTHING WRONG BUT THEY ARE HAPPY TO REPLACE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING BOX FOR $1800. IT IS AN UN SERVICEABLE PART SO IT MUST BE REPLACED. THIS SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND DANGEROUS. THIS ALL OCCURRED DURING CITY DRIVING. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT.
WHEN TURNING THE STREERING WHEEL IT GETS HARD .YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE BOTH HANDS ON STREERING SO YOU CAN BRING IT BACK THE WHEELS WANTS TO CONTINUE TURN IT WILL RELEASE AFTER A WHILE HARD TO CONTROL
WHILE DRIVING MY STEERING RACK SUDDENLY BROKE MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO HANDLE AND AVOID VEHICLES ON THE ROADWAY ON A CITY ROAD ABOUT TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY.

POWER STEERING IS "STICKY " AND DOES NOT RETURN TO CENTER AFTER A TURN , THIS REQUIRES CONSTANT STEERING EFFORT TO STAY WITHIN ONES LANE. THERE IS ALSO A STICKING POINT WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL IN ONE DIRECTION.
I WAS DRIVING ONE AFTERNOON AND ALL OF A SUDDEN WHEN I TURNED MY STEERING WHEEL IT WOULD LET OUT A HIGH PITCHED SCREECHING NOISE AND MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP. I COULDN'T TURN IT LEFT NOR RIGHT BECAUSE IT WAS STUCK BUT IF I FORCED IT IT WOULD UNLOCK BUT STILL MAKE THE SCREECHING SOUND. AND THIS IS WHERE I AM AT ALMOST WRECKING 5 TIMES THAT DAY TRYING TO GET HOME AND NOT BEING ABLE TO DRIVE TO WORK WITH MY CAR DUE TO THE FACT MY POWER STEER IS FAILING FOR NO REASON WHAT SO EVER.
POWER STEERING ELECTRIC ASSIST IS NOT WORKING ALL OF A SUDDEN DIFFICULT TO TURN, PULLING OUT OF GAS STATION ON TO HIGHWAY
I GOT INTO MY FORD F150 TO GO TO WORK AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP ON ME, I COULD NOT GET IT TO STEER AT ALL. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR CENTER THAT I PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. THEY CAME AND TOWED THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT. THE NEXT DAY THEY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE ENTIRE THING WAS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER 2000.00. I HAD THE TRUCK FOR LESS THAN FOUR MONTHS.
MY 2011 FORD F150 WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SAILS WHILE DRIVING. IT STARTS OUT WORKING FINE AND THEN ONCE THE TRUCK IS UP TO SPEED IT'S DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL BETWEEN 11 O'CLOCK AND ONE O'CLOCK ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THE MALFUNCTION DOES NOT THROW A CODE ON THE PCM SO THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT'S FINE. BUT I'M LOOKING AROUND ON A LOT OF DIFFERENT BLOG SITES IN HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SUDDENLY NOT WORKING. I DRIVE-IN SNOWY ICY CONDITIONS FOR WORK DURING THE WINTER IN THIS PROBLEM HAS ALMOST CAUSED NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THE JERKY MOTION YOU HAVE TO PERFORM TO CHANGE LANES OR STEER. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF THIS ISSUE COULD BE INVESTIGATED BECAUSE THERE'S NO RECALL FROM FORD.
WHILE TURNING IN TRAFFIC MY EPAS STEERING WENT OUT ALMOST CAUSING A WRECK. I ALREADY HAD DEALERSHIP CHANGE EPAS RACK AND PINION AND I HAVE SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2014 TRUCKS WITH SAME ISSUE. ITS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE.
STEERING STICKS AND IS ERRATIC ON THE INTERSTATE. WHEN TURNING LEFT THE STEERING SOMETIMES STICKS GIVING THE IMPRESSION THE TRUCK IS OVER ROTATING AROUND CORNERS. CHANGING LANES ON THE INTERSTATE IS DANGEROUS AS SOMETIMES THE STEERING STICKS CAUSING THE TRUCK TO VEER. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME UNTIL I FOUND TSB 11-08-18. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS! I'M NOT HAPPY AND BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. WILL IT TAKE SOMEONE GETTING KILLED FIRST? STEERING IS PRETTY IMPORTANT.
STEERING INTERMITTENTLY LOCKS UP ON PRIMARILY LEFT TURN. PROBLEM HAS BEEN WORSENING TO INCLUDE TURNS TO THE RIGHT. WHEN IT HAPPENS, STEERING WILL TOTALLY LOCK UP MAKING DRIVING AND COMPLETING TURNS IMPOSSIBLE. EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD. SLIGHTLY TURNING STEERING TO THE LEFT & RIGHT SOMETIMES CORRECTS THE PROBLEM. SPEED AND ROAD CONDITIONS DO NOT SEEM TO BE A FACTOR AS TO WHEN THE STEERING WANTS TO LOCK UP, JUST TURNS. CONDITION HAS BEEN WORSENING OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. COLD WEATHER, HOWEVER, DOES SEEM TO WORSEN THE PROBLEM.

WHILE DRIVING AND UNDER NO PARTICULAR COMMON CONDITIONS, THE DASHBOARD, INSTRUMENT GAUGES, INTERIOR LIGHTING, HEADLIGHTS, NAVIGATION PANEL SUDDENLY BEGIN FLASHING AND BLACKING OUT. THEN AFTER A FEW SECONDS, COME BACK TO NORMAL, BUT TYPICALLY WITH A "TRACTION CONTROL SERVICE" MESSAGE ON WITH THE TROUBLE LIGHT REMAINING ON. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING. ONCE IN A WHILE, IT LASTED LONGER AND CLUNKING NOISES SEEMED TO COME FROM THE DRIVE TRAIN. HOWEVER, A FEW OCCURRENCES WERE WHILE TURNING AND THE POWER STEERING WAS OUT. I TOOK IT TO A BELLE TIRE NEARBY AND THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, SAYING THE DEALER HAD TO UPDATE THE ABS MODULE AND GAVE ME A PRINTOUT OF TSB 12-11-18 [ATTACHED SCAN]. THEY CIRCLED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES C1278 AND C1963 AS THE ONES THAT POPPED UP IN THEIR ANALYSIS. I FIND NO RECALLS OF THIS ITEM, BUT THE STEERING ISSUE IS CERTAINLY DANGEROUS.
STEERING BINDS WHEN TURNING, BOTH WHEN GOING INTO A TURN AND RETURNING TO CENTER (STRAIGHT). MOST NOTICEABLE ON CITY STREETS. I MUST USE EXTRA ARM STRENGTH IN BOTH MANEUVERS. PROBLEM FIRST NOTICED ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE SINCE. COLD WEATHER (WISCONSIN) SEEMS TO EXACERBATE THE PROBLEM.

AFTER TAKING IT TO A SHOP AND THEM NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM, THE NOTED THAT THE RACK AND PINION BOLT WAS WORN OUT AND THEY CAN'T REPLACE IT WITHOUT REPLACING THE WHOLE STEERING ASSEMBLY

I WAS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY (US 290) FROM CHANNELVIEW ,TX TO WALLER,TX AND BACK I HAVE A 2011 FORD F-150 XL 5.0 L / 8 CYL / FLEX FUEL 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC (ELECTRONIC) FUEL INJECTION AFTER ABOUT 45 MINUTES PARKED AND TURNED OFF,IT WORKED FINE. I DECIDED TO GO HOME,60 MILES. 30 MILES IT WORKED FINE THEN WENT OUT AGAIN.

AFTER THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON WHILE CAR IS IN PARK AND IDLING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, THE STEERING POWER ASSIST IS LOST, ESPECIALLY ON LEFT HAND TURNS. SO IF I TURN LEFT, THE STEERING WHEEL MUST BE MANUALLY TURNED BACK TO STRAIGHT OR THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO TURN LEFT. AFTER THE TURN, IF MY HANDS WERE NOT ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND MANUALLY STEERING THE CAR BACK TO STRAIGHT, THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TURNING INTO OPPOSING TRAFFIC. ON A WINDY ROAD, THE TRUCK WILL CONTINUE TO GO IN THE DIRECTION OF THE TURN AND NOT RETURN TO THE STRAIGHT AHEAD TRACK WITHOUT MANUALLY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. IT IS A VERY SCARY SCARY SITUATION. THE NEXT DAY MORNING AFTER COOLING OFF ALL IS GOOD. THIS HAPPENS BOTH ON THE HIGHWAYS AND CITY STREETS ONCE IT OVERHEATS SOME COMPONENT.

I WAS TURNING MY 2011 F150 AROUND IN A LOT WHEN A STEERING ERROR WARNING POPED UP ON DASH ALONG WITH A STABILITY CONTROL ERROR. STEERING FROZE AND I DID NOT HAVE STEERING CONTROL. TOOK ALL EFFORT TO FORCE VEHICLE TO TURN AND AVOID A COLLISION STEERING WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN WITH A LOUD BUZZING NOISE AND LIMITED TURNING RANGE (ABOUT 2/3 OF NORMAL RANGE LEFT AND RIGHT. DROVE HOME THIS WAY (ABOUT 15 MILES). WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL VEHICLE AND VERY NERVE RACKING. BEING A MECHANIC I SCANNED CODES AND IT APPEARS THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR FAILED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SYSTEM I SHUDDER WHEN I THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCES HAD I BEEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. IF THERE IS NOT A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE THERE SHOULD BE BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. I INCLUDED THE SCANNED CODES BELOW.
ON SATURDAY 08/18/18 THE POWER STEERING UNIT ON MY MY FORD F-150 (2011MODEL, 67956 MILES) FAILED, FORTUNATELY, RIGHT WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY. NOTHING CHANGED WHEN I RESTARTED THE TRUCK A FEW TIMES, SO I SHUT IT DOWN WITHOUT ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE IT AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE UNIT WAS REPLACED FOR $2171.00. I DISCUSSED THE EVENT WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPRESSING MY SURPRISE THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON FAILURES OF SUCH AN IMPORTANT PART THAT IMPACTED VEHICLE AND PUBLIC SAFETY, OR A REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. HE SYMPATHIZED AND TOLD ME TO REPORT THE INCIDENT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPPLIED ME WITH THEIR TELEPHONE NUMBER. THE C S REP TOOK MY INFORMATION, GAVE ME A CASE # AND SAID I WOULD BE CONTACTED BY A REGIONAL CS REP. THAT PERSON CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND POLITELY INFORMED ME...
STEERING IS 'STICKY' ON LEFT HAND TURNS. FORD ATTEMPTED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITHOUT REPLACING PARTS WHICH HELPED. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED AND IS WORSE THAN BEFORE. STEERING CAN BE AN PROBLEM EITHER AT SPEEDS OR WHEN STATIONARY. I HAVE DIFFICULTY STAYING IN A LANE WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY AS IT JERKS BACK FROM THE LEFT. ALSO NOTICE SOMETIMES WHEN PARKED. THE STEERING CAN TAKE SIGNIFICANT EFFORT TO REVERSE A TURN. THERE WAS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ISSUED BY FORD FOR THIS PROBLEM. SEE TSB 11-8-18
ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION/ ADVANCED TRAC MALFUNCTION. STEERING IS FAILING, HARD TO TURN. MAKING NOISES. FORD DID RECALL THESE TRUCKS FOR THOSE REASONS BUT DID NOT INCLUDE MY BATCH NUMBER. MY VEHICLE IS EXHIBITING THE SAME ISSUES AS THE RECALL. MINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED.
THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING FAILED IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET TUNRING
STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING 40 PLUS MILES AN HOUR ON A WINDING ROAD ALMOST CRASHED. HAD TROUBLE GETTING IT OFF THE TOW TRUCK. TOWED IT HOME AND MESSED WITH THE FUSE BOX STILL LOCKED. GOT INTO THE TRUCK AND MANUALLY RESET THE STEERING. STARTED TRUCK AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE. AT FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS THE RACK AND PINION, BUT I I WOULD NOT HAVE JUST RESET AND DROVE AS NOTHING WAS WRONG. I THINK THAT IT HAS TO DO WITH THE ELECTRIC MOTOR ON THE ACTUAL RACK. VERY DANGEROUS AND VERY EXPENSIVE PART. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A LAWSUIT FOR FORD IF MY HUSBAND WOULD HAVE DRIVEN OFF A CLIFF AS WE LIVE IN A VERY MOUNTAINOUS AREA. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMPONENT ISSUE AND NOT A RACK ISSUE. THE MOTOR IS NOT SERVICEABLE SO I WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED TO SEE THE INSIDE OF THE MOTOR...
SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC LIGHT CAME ON AND I EXPERIENCED TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING AS I WAS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC AT AN INTERSECTION. IT TOOK ALL OF MY STRENGTH TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT WHILE TRYING TO PULL OFF THE ROAD INTO A SAFE LOCATION.
TAKATA RECALL...WHILE DRIVING ACROSS TOWN I NOTICED MY TRUCK'S STEERING WHEEL ACTING, VERY DIFFERENT. WHILE ARRIVING AT A STOP LIGHT, AT A BUSY INTERSECTION I NOTICED MY STEERING WHEEL STIFFEN AND LOOSEN REPEATEDLY UNTIL FINALLY IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. I HAD TO USE ALL OF MY STRENGTH TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. THE SLIGHTEST TURN BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE. IT WAS NOT UNTIL AFTER MY WHEEL STIFFENED THAT MY TRUCK'S DASHBOARD DISPLAYED A MESSAGE THAT SAID (SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW). THE MOST DANGEROUS PART OF THIS WAS THAT ALL OF MY CHILDREN WERE WITH ME. HAD MY TEEN DAUGHTER CHOSEN TO BORROW MY TRUCK FOR AN ERRAND, IN A DIFFERENT CITY EARLIER THAT DAY, SHE MIGHT HAVE EITHER BEEN STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR SHE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO A FATAL CAR CRASH TRAVELING 60 MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY. MY TRUCK...
POWER STEERING IS " HITCHY " AND DOES NOT RETURN TO CENTER AFTER A TURN , THIS REQUIRES CONSTANT STEERING EFFORT TO STAY WITHIN ONES LANE. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING IT IS QUITE UNNERVING .THE VEHICLE HAS 52221 MILES ON IT.
THE TRUCK WHEN MAKING A TURN TO THE LEFT STICKS WHEN TRYING TO RETURN WHEEL TO STRIGHT. IN A NORMAL TURN WHEN YOU FINISH THE TURN YOU CAN LET THE WHEEL SLIDE THRU YOUR HANDS AND IT WILL STRIGHTEN BY IT SELF. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I ENDED UP IN THE OTHER LANE. I'VE BEEN CHECKING ON LINE AND HAVE FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE EPAS GEAR FOR THIS YEAR TRUCK. FORD SHOULD ORDER A RECALL TO FIX THIS COMMON PROBLEM. THIS ISN'T A WEAR AND TEAR ITEM THIS IS A FAULTY DESIGN.
STARTED WITH AN 'ADVANCE TRAC' SERVICE INDICATOR WARNING AT FIRST WHILE TURNING OR BACKING UP. THEN WHILE IN REVERSE, A PARKING ASSIST SERVICE INDICATOR WARNING APPEARED ON DISPLAY. THESE WARNINGS DID NOT LAST LONG AND WAS NOT APPEARING EVERY START UP. THE WARNING ITSELF DID NOT PREPARE ME FOR A STEERING LOCK UP EITHER. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR FORD MADE ALL ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, WHICH IS HAVOC AND COULD'VE BEEN AN EASIER FIX IF A CONSUMER COULD'VE JUST ADDED FLUID. A WEEK LATER WHILE TURNING INTO DRIVEWAY, THE STEERING TOTALLY LOCKED UP MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO VEHICLES ON SIDE OF US TO COLLIDE WITH. SINCE THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON THIS YET AND MANY COMPLAINTS ON SAME SUBJECT, THIS WILL BE A COSTLY EXPENSE FOR US AS FORD TRIES TO SEE IF THIS ALL ELECTRIC POWER STEERING...
MY 2011 FORD F-150 ECOBOOST STEERING IS STICKING PRETTY BAD WHEN I MAKE A LEFT TURN. IT VARIES BETWEEN A GRADUAL LEFT TURN TO A SHARP 90 DEGREE TURN, BUT I ALWAYS HAVE TO "PULL" IT BACK TO THE RIGHT TO STRAIGHTEN THE VEHICLE OUT. IT SEEMS VERY SCARY WHEN YOU MEET A SEMI AND THE STEERING STICKS AND I'M AFRAID OF OVER CORRECTING THE VEHICLE. I HAD A CLOSE CALL THE OTHER MORNING SO I PARKED IT TO AVOID ANY FUTURE MISHAPS.
MY VEHICLE ALONG WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHERS ARE DRIVING OUR ROADS WITH FAULTY STEERING. THE STEERING WHEEL LITERALLY GETS STUCK & YOU ALMOST KILL PEOPLE. FORD KNOWS THIS & HAS RECALLED SOME MODELS BECAUSE OF IT, BUT NOT ALL MODELS WERE RECALLED DUE TO COSTS. THEY WONT DO ANYTHING THOUGH BECAUSE THE COST IS TOO HIGH TO FIX. I HAD TO PAY 1900 FOR AN ENTIRE NEW STEERING SYSTEM IN MY TRUCK. ON A SIDE NOTE, FORD DEALERS WILL INSPECT & PASS YOUR STATE INSPECTIONS WITH THIS STEERING PROBLEM. "STEERING IS NOT AN INSPECTION ITEM FROM THE STATE"
2011 FORD F150 STEERING STARTS TO BIND AS IF POWER STEERING LOSS AT 10-11 O'CLOCK POSITION. TOOK IT TO SUNRISE FORD IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD CA. DIAGNOSED AS A POWER STEERING GEAR FAULT.
