I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND NONE OF THE PREVIOUS OWNERS DID THE TIRE RECALL.
INSIDE OF TIRE SIDEWALL SUDDENLY CRACKED OPEN LEADING TO RAPID PRESSURE LOSS. THIS SAME TIRE HAS BEEN RECALLED IN OTHER SIZES FOR THIS SAME FAILURE.

MICHELIN LTX AT2 TIRES. EXCESSIVE CRACKING. TIRES WITH 30,000 MILES ON THEM AND WELL OVER ONE-HALF TREAD REMAINING HAVE DEVELOPED WIDESPREAD SIDEWALL CRACKS. CRACKS ARE MORE THAN COSMETIC, YOU CAN ACTUALLY FEEL RAISED BUMPS IF YOU RUN YOUR HAND OVER THEM. THE CRACKS SEEM SEVERE ENOUGH THAT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT TIRE FAILURES, PARTICULARLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, AND EVIDENCE THAT MICHELIN HAS BEEN QUIETLY OFFERING DISCOUNTED REPLACEMENTS TO THOSE WHO COMPLAIN DIRECTLY TO THEM. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SIDE WALL WAS SEPARATED FROM THE TREAD. THE TIRE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT TIRE SHOP WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE TIRE WERE DEFECTIVE. THE TIRE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A MICHELIN DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE BLOWOUT WAS CAUSED BY A SCREW. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,863. THIS IS THE SECOND COOPER DISCOVERER H/T DE-TREADING INCIDENT IN SEVERAL MONTHS. IN BOTH CASES, TIRE PRESSURES WERE INFLATED PER SPECIFICATION PRIOR TO AN EXTENDED TRIP AND FAILED AFTER LESS THAN 200 MILES OF SUSTAINED HIGHWAY DRIVING. ALL TIRES WERE INSPECTED PRIOR TO THE TRIP AND NO ROAD HAZARDS WERE CAUSE OF THE TIRES DE-TREADING. THE FIRST INCIDENT IN OCTOBER ON HIGHWAY 10 WEST WAS REPORTED TO NTHSB. THIS SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED ON FEBRUARY 9, 2012 WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 70 MPH ON HIGHWAY 10 EAST, APPROXIMATELY 130 MILES FROM LAKE HAVASU CITY, ARIZONA. ON BOTH OCCASIONS, THE TIRES HELD PRESSURE WHILE THE TREADS SHEARED FROM THE TIRE. BOTH DEFECTIVE TIRES MAINTAINED THE CORRECT PRESSURE AFTER TESTING. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SHOULDER WHERE HE CHANGED THE TIRE AND INSTALLED THE SPARE. THE FRONT FENDER OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF THE TIRE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 65 MPH, THE TREAD ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE UNRAVELED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BY RELEASING HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE NERF BAR, DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND FENDER. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO A ROAD BUMP, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE PASSENGERS SIDE MIRROR AND FENDER. 2005 F150 WITH 38,000 MILES,DEVELOPED A WOBBLE WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED.REPLACED BOTH LOWER FRONT BALL JOINTS.AFTER CHANGING THE BALL JOINTS OUT I ROTATED THE TIRES,AND THE WOBBLING BECAME WORSE NOT BETTER.I INSPECTED THE TIRE THAT WAS ORIGINALLY ON THE BACK LEFT SIDE OF THE TRUCK, AND I FOUND A RAISED SPOT APPROXIMATELY 10" LONG AND 2 TO 3 " WIDE ON THE ISIDE OF THE TIRE TREAD.THE TREAD IN THIS SPOT WAS WORN DOWN PAST THE TREAD WEAR BARS,AND THE REST OF THE TREAD ON THE TIRE WAS STILL IN A GOOD ENOUGH STATE THAT I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN ANOTHER 10,000 MILES OUT OF IT.I TOOK THE TRUCK TO LOCAL TIRE DEALER AND THEY ISPECTED THE REST OF THE TIRES AND FOUN 2 MORE WORN EXACTLY THE SAME.IREPLACED ALL 4 TIRES WITH ANOTHER BRAND. *TR

I HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES ON MY 05 FORD F-150 4X4 AFTER ONLY 22,000 MILES BECAUSE THE TREAD WAS SEPARATING FROM THE TIRES TO THE POINT YOU COULD SEE THE STEEL BELTS. BEFORE THAT I HAD NUMEROUS PUNCTURES AND REPAIRS FROM THINGS AS LIGHT AS A STICK. I HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLES FROM THESE TIRES SINCE DAY ONE AND CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY FORD WOULD PUT SUCH A POOR QUALITY TIRES ON THERE VEHICLES. HAD DEALERSHIP LOOK AT THE TRUCK AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS OFF AND IT WASN'T UP TO THEM TO TAKE CARE OF THE ALIGNMENT BUT WAS TOLD TO CONTACT TIRE MANUFACTURER. WHILE TALKING TO THE MANUFACTURER REP ON THE PHONE SHE ADVISED THAT SHE HAD READ MEMOS FROM FORD ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THE ALIGNMENT SPECS ON THE VEHICLE. DT: AT 400 MILES THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY WHEN PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES. THIS HAPPENED ON MAY 18, 2005. CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHO CLAIMED THE ROTORS WERE WARPED FROM HEAT. THEY GOT PERMISSION FROM FORD TO PUT ON DIFFERENT ROTORS. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CONSUMER WENT BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY CHECKED AND DISCOVERED THERE WAS NO BRAKE FLUID IN THE MASTER CYLINDER. LEFT THE DEALER AGAIN , WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE FLUID IN MASTER CYLINDER, THE FLUID WAS IN THE RIMS OF THE VEHICLE, AND ON THE GROUND. THIS WORE OUT THE TIRES AND THE BRAKES STILL WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. FORD WAS SUPPOSE TO SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO MEET WITH THE CONSUMER , AND HAD NOT DONE SO. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID IT LOOKED AS IF CHUNKS HAD BEEN CUT OUT OF THE TIRES. IT WAS THE COAL MINES, WHERE CONSUMER WORKED, THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE CUTS IN THE TIRES.
