IN SEPT WHILE GOING UP A HILL, JUST MADE IT TO THE TOP, HAD LOSS OF POWER, ENGINE RUNNING BUT ACCELERATOR WILL NOT WORK. ABLE TO COAST DOWN HILL INTO A PARKING LOT. AFTER TURNED CAR OFF, STARTED BACK UP. RAN FINE UNTIL TODAY. LITTLE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. SPOKE TO MECHANIC, HE STATED IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM, OK TO DRIVE UNLESS YOU HAVE FURTHER PROBLEMS, IT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED IN THE FUTURE. TODAY, NOV. 3, WHILE PULLING OUT FROM A PARKING LOT, INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC, CAR ENGINE STALLED, PUT CAR INTO PARK, TURNED KEY TO OFF POSITION, THEN CAR STARTED RIGHT UP. VEHICLES BEHIND OURS WERE ABLE TO STOP, LUCKILY NONE COLLIDED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING FREEWAY SPEEDS, I LOST POWER. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, ENGINE REMAINED RUNNING AND I LIMPED TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. WHEN RE-STARTING CAR, PROBLEM DISAPPEARED. TOOK CAR TO PRIVATE MECHANIC ([XXX]) AND HE COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM IN THE COMPUTER HISTORY. HE SUSPECTED THROTTLE LINKAGE. CAR DROVE FINE UNTIL OCT 25, 2013 WHEN IT RECURRED ON THE FREEWAY. WHILE COASTING IN THE HOV LANE, WE PUT VEHICLE IN "NEUTRAL" AND TRIED TO RESTART, PROBLEM DID NOT RESOLVE. ONLY AFTER COASTING TO A STOP AND PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN "PARK" AND RESTARTING WOULD THE PROBLEM RE-SET. VERY HAZARDOUS LOSING POWER AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AND TRYING TO LIMP TO THE SIDE. I AM A HOMEHEALTH NURSE, I WORK IN A VERY MOUNTAINOUS, RURAL AREA WHERE I DO NOT EVEN HAVE CELLPHONE SERVICE. I WAS ON A VERY NARROW, CURVY ROAD, WHEN THE CAR JUST QUIT ACCELERATING, THE SMALL WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASH, I WAS ABLE TO COAST FAR ENOUGH TO GET TO A WIDE SPOT WHERE I COULD GET THE VEHICLE SAFELY OUT OF THE ROAD, BARELY MISSING AN 18 WHEEL COAL TRUCK FROM HITTING ME. THERE WAS NO WARNING, THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE ALL DAY AND THEN IT JUST QUIT. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IT AND AGAIN THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FINALLY CAME ON. THE NICEST PERSON IN THE WORLD HELP ME AND HE WAS ABLE TO DETECT THE PROBLEM WITH HIS COMPUTER AND HE WAS ABLE TO ADJUST THE THROTTLE INTO THE CLOSED...
AFTER WAITING FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL, I BEGAN MY TURN LEFT. JUST PAST THE INTERSECTION, I LOST POWER WITH SORT OF A CHUGGING MOTION IN THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THE INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS OF A SMALL WRENCH, INDICATING THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN IN THE MANUAL. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND DRIVE IN. THE CHARGE FOR INSTALLING DS7Z 9E926 D (THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR AS) WAS $400.46 PLUS TAX. WITH LESS THAN 38000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE, I DID NOT EXPECT TO HAVE THIS KIND OF REPAIR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN CONGESTED MORNING TRAFFIC AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT POPPED ON AS I LOST ACCELERATION. I WAS ABLE TO COAST ON TO THE MEDIAN. HOWEVER, I WAS ALMOST STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER CAR. AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS, THE CAR STARTED BACK UP AND I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO WORK AND MADE IT HOME WITHOUT PROBLEMS THIS EVENING. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM AND JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR HURT. AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 70MPH, THE VEHICLE TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF AND DECELERATED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY TO 60MPH WHICH CAUSED AN UNCOMFORTABLE THRASHING FORWARD OF MYSELF AND MY 2 CHILDREN. I FILED A COMPLAINT YESTERDAY AND WILL CONTINUE TO AS LONG AS THIS IS HAPPENING, WHEN I STARTED MY CAR THIS MORNING I DROVE 3 MILES AND IT STOPPED MOVING, WHEN I PRESS THE GAS NOTHING HAPPENED AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, STOPPED THE CAR TURNED IT OFF STARTED IT DROVE THE CAR ABOUT 20 FEET AND IT DID THE SAME. WELL FOR THE PAST MONTH IT HAPPENS EVERYDAY WHILE IM DRIVING 65 OR 15 JUST ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT STOPS GOING AND I HAVE TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART IT SOMETIMES IT GOES A FEW FEET AND I HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN SOMETIMES IT...
THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR SEEMED TO "STALL" ALTHOUGH IT NEVER ACTUALLY STALLED OUT, BUT RPMS DROPPED TO 800-1000 AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ANY THROTTLE ACTION . AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF, WAITING AND STARTING AGAIN, THE PROBLEM THEN RESURFACED ABOUT A HALF MILE LATER. I WAS AGAIN ABLE TO PULL OFF, RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE NORMALLY. ONCE IN A SAFE LOCATION (WORK), I WAS ABLE TO CONNECT A OBD-II READER TO THE CAR AND FOUND THE FOLLOWING: P2112: TAC SYSTEM STUCK CLOSED RUNNING A GOOGLE SEARCH OF THE ABOVE ERROR GAVE MANY MANY ARTICLES POINTING TO A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. THIS ISSUE WAS PRECEDED BY THE CAR RANDOMLY STALLING OUT (THIS TIME ACTUAL STALLS). THESE HAPPENED AT VERY RANDOM INTERVALS FOR APPROX. 2-3 WEEKS BEFORE THE EXPRESSWAY ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVE DOWN HWY AT 60 MPH , ENGINE LIGHT/WRENCH CAME ON AND THE ENGINE WENT INTO SLOW SPEED AT 900 RPM. ALSO DID IT AT LOW SPEEDS WHILE DRIVING AWAY FROM STOPPED. HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL AND PROBLEM WENT AWAY. *TR
CAR STALLED AND QUICKLY SLOWED DOWN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND HAD TO PULL ONTO A NARROW SHOULDER WITH LOTS OF DEBRIS. CAR WOULD THEN ALLOW ME TO SPEED UP AGAIN AND REPEAT THE RAPID STALL UNTIL ULTIMATELY GOING INTO LIMP MODE. WAS LATER FOUND TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY THAT WAS SAID TO BE ON BACK-ORDER FOR THREE WEEKS SINCE SO MANY OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR ESCAPES AND THAT FORD HAD A REDESIGN IN WORK. HAD TO PAY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY CO-PAY SINCE FORD HAS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
TRAVELING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE LANE AT 8:30 PM THE TRUCK STARTED TO HESITATE AND ACT LIKE IT WASN'T RUNNING RIGHT. THEN I LOST TOTAL CONTROL OF THE ACCELERATOR BUT THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. I HAD ALL I COULD DO TO TRY TO COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. NOTICING THAT THE ACCELERATOR DID NOT ENGAGE AT ALL, I TURNED OFF THE TRUCK AND WAS GOING TO CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK. THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED TO TRY AND START IT TO SEE IF I COULD GET HOME ON MY OWN. BACKED OUT OF PARKING SPACE, WRENCH LIT ON DASH, NO THROTTLE CONTROL, ERRATIC IDLE. HAVE A CODE SCANNER, IT READ P2111. PLACED IN PARK, SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED, LIGHT WENT OFF. DRIVE 5 MINUTES, WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, NO THROTTLE CONTROL, ERRATIC IDLE, CODES P2111, P2112. ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED. AGAIN PUT IN PARK AND RESTARTED, MADE IT HOME. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES BEFORE THIS IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. VERY DANGEROUS LOOSING POWER LIKE THAT WITH NO WARNING, I'M AFRAID TO LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE VEHICLE, SHE IS ON THE FREEWAY MORE. THROTTLE BODY REPLACED ON 10/16/2013. MERGING ONTO INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDEN DOWN SHIFT AND ENGINE REV OCCURRED. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN NEEDED AND PULLED ONTO SAFETY LANE.. THE CAR WAS TAKE TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. WE WERE TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD. I WAS ALSO TOLD THEY GO BAD A LOT AND THEY NOT COVERED BY THE ENGINE WARRANTY. TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AT THE TIME IF IT WAS HEAVY THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES IN THE PAST WERE THE CAR HESITATED BADLY FROM A STOP. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, CAR WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE, GREATLY REDUCING SPEED ON RURAL HIGHWAY. CODE WAS FOR THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK CLOSED. DEALER CLEANED THROTTLE PLATES ONLY, AND RETURNED CAR. NEXT DAY, THE SAME THING OCCURRED. THIS TIME DEALER REPLACED THROTTLE BODY. THIS IS A DANGEROULS SITUATION FOR WHICH I HAVE NOTICED THERE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINTS AND AN INVESTIGATION. PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF HIGHWAY, CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND IN THE PROCESS, I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. THE AGENT ON THE PHONE ASKED FOR THE MILEAGE OF VEHICLE AND I TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AGAIN. THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT WAS OFF AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED NORMAL. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE NEXT EXIT AND GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND SAFELY HOME. THE VEHICLE HAS DISPLAYED NO FURTHER ISSUES SINCE THEN. I WAS DRIVING FROM VIRGINIA TOWARDS THE DELAWARE BEACHES. AFTER CROSSING THE BAY BRIDGE IN MARYLAND ON ROUTE 50 ... DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE TRAVELING 55MPH, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND BEGAN LOSING SPEED. WHILE DRIVING OUT OF MY SUBDIVISION, MY FORD ESCAPE LOST ALL POWER. THE ENGINE WAS SURGING BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT, BUT THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST REVEALED A FAILED THROTTLE BODY. EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE IS SLIGHTLY UNDER THE 5 YR/60,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, THE DEALERSHIP IS INSISTING ON USING MY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THE PART WHICH WILL COST ME $100 DEDUCTIBLE AND I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MOST OF THE COST OF MY RENTAL VEHICLE (EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY ONLY PAYS RENTAL CAR FOR LABOR HOURS ON VEHICLE REPAIRS, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT BE PULLED IN FOR REPAIR FOR SEVERAL DAYS). *TR

2010 FORD ESCAPE HAD BEEN HAVING AN UNEVEN IDLE WHILE IN DRIVE WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. IN THIS CASE, WHILE ACCELERATING AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND STALLED WITH THE ENGINE AND WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATING. PULLED OVER TURNED KEY TO OFF POSITION PUT CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP THAT WEEKEND. TECHNICIAN WITNESSED THE UNEVEN IDLE. NO CODES WOULD SHOW UP ON COMPUTER. TECHNICIAN RE-CALIBRATED IDLE. CAR RAN SMOOTH FOR 3 DAYS AND UNEVEN IDLE REAPPEARED. THREE WEEKS LATER WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP SIGN, CAR WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE; WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH WITH CRUISE SET I COULD FEEL "SURGES" IN THE ENGINE. TOOK CAR OFF CRUISE, COULD STILL FEEL SOMETHING JUST WASN'T RIGHT. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING TO SCHOOL AND SHE INFORMED ME THAT SHE LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK FORWARD. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN FOUR DAYS. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND A "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES AWAY. THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION 10 TIMES DURING THE TRIP. WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AS A FAMILY WITH 4 TOTAL PEOPLE IN THE CAR. THE ENGINE AND MOTOR LOST TOTAL POWER. WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED AT 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DISENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL AND WENT TO AN EXTREMELY ROUGH IDLE WITH THE VEHICLE SHAKING LIKE A LEAF IN THE WIND. HAD TO EXIT HIGHWAY THROUGH TRAFFIC AS THE THROTTLE WOULD NOT RESPOND IN ANY POSITION. IT WAS EARLY MORNING WITH LIGHT TRAFFIC THANKFULLY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT IF THE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED LATER IN THE DAY DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC.
STANDARD TRANSMISSION VEHICLE. TRAVELING ON CITY STREET AT 35 MPH, VEHICLE STARTED LOSING POWER AND ENGINE DIED. INITIALLY NOT ABLE TO RESTART, WAITED 4 MINUTES AND ENGINE STARTED. FEW MINUTES LATER AT A STOP, BEGAN ACCELERATING BUT ENGINE DIED AGAIN. AFTER FIRST OCCURRENCE, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WRENCH LIGHT WENT ON AND OFF. WAS ABLE TO GET VEHICLE STARTED AND PROCEEDED TO FORD DEALER. FORD DEALER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS FAULTY THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED.
1ST - VEHICLE WAS REFUELED WITH 87 OCTANE AND JUST DROVE ONE MILE DOWN AND UP A HILL WERE IT STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE THROTTLE WAS APPLIED AND VEHICLE LURCHED AND STALLED. 2ND - VEHICLE WAS DRIVING AROUND NEIGHBORHOOD GOING 20 MPH AND STARTED TO SPUTTER AND HESITATE 3RD - RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WERE IT WAS STOPPED THEN THROTTLE APPLIED AND LURCHED AND STALLED 4TH - USING CRUISE CONTROL DRIVING 75 MPH DOWN PARKWAY, VEHICLE HESITATED AND THEN QUICKLY SLOWED DOWN TO 20 MPH AND STALLED 5TH - DRIVING TO DEALER TO FIGURE OUT HESITATION AND STALL, ACCELERATED FROM RED LIGHT AND HESITATED AND STALLED 6TH - STILL ENROUTE TO DEALER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW ILLUMINATED, AND VEHICLE STALLS AGAIN ONLY 300 FEET FROM LAST STALL. WHILE ACCELERATING AND SWITCHING FROM FIRST GEAR, ENGINE SLOWS TO ROUGH IDLE, NO THROTTLE RESPONSE, WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THOUGH. SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO CREEP TO THE SIDE OF ROAD BUT NO REAL POWER OR CONTROL OF THROTTLE.
