FOR OVER A YEAR WHEN MY CAR HAD LESS THAN 100K AND STILL UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY MY TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AND SLAMMING INTO GEAR ON TAKEOFF. I TOOK TO FORD DEALER SHIP AND THEY RAN DISNOSTICS AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG BUT REPROGRAMED THE COMPUTER. THAT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THE CAR CONTINUES TO TODAYS TO SLIP AND SLAM ON TAKE OFF, THE ODOMETER BOUNCES AND THE ENGINE START CUTTING OUT/LOOSING POWER. AGAIN THE DEALER SAID IF THE COMPUTER IS NOT SETTING CODES THEY CANNOT FIX. NOW AT 110K OUT OF WARRANTY THE PROBLEM CONTINUES JUST GETTING WORSE. I BELIEVE BY READING THE BLOGS THAT THIS IS A LARGE ISSUE THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT BUT REFUSES TO ADMIT BAD TRANSMISSION DESIGN AND WILL NOT RECALL. I THINK THEY SHOULD EITHER FIX THE ISSUE AT THEIR COST OR BUY BACK THE VEHCILE. I AM SURE THE MAIN ISSUE IS THE COST...
I HAVE TAKEN THIS EDGE TO THE FORD DEALER 3 TIMES BECAUSE OF SURGING AND THE RPM'S SURGING, CLUNKING, ETC. ALL THREE TIMES WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT, NOW AT 80,000 IT HAS COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND THE TAC REVS TO 3 AND 4. I'M SOOOO FRUSTRATED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND AFTER 3 VISITS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT, WE ARE LOOKING AT TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT!! *TR

EDGE HAD STARTED TO DRIVE SLUGGISH, COULD NOT GET UP TO SPEED OR GET CAR INTO NEXT GEAR. DRIVING HOME FROM VACATION, CAR WAS VERY SLUGGISH GOING UP HILLS AND RPM NEEDLE WOULD REV HIGH BEFORE ABLE TO SHIFT TO NEXT GEAR. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH CODE OF P061. FOUND FORD DEALER LOCALLY WHO REPLACED FILTER. CAR DROVE BETTER FOR 1/2 DAY, THEN BACK TO SLUGGISH AND NOT ABLE TO CHANGE GEARS. TOOK BACK TO MY FORD DEALER, REPLACED MAF SENSOR AND THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FOR $645. 10 MONTHS LATER CITY DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, CAR IS STARTING TO SLIP INTO SLUGGISH MODE AND HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING TO NEXT GEAR. RPM NEEDLE REVS HIGH BEFORE SHIFTING GEAR. WILL WATCH CLOSELY BEFORE TAKING BACK TO DEALER AGAIN. NOTICE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FOR SAME PROBLEM WITH THE FORD EDGE. *TR
ON THE FREEWAY IT FELT LIKE THE CAR HIT A HARD BUMP EXITING THE FREEWAY THERE WAS NO LONGER ANY ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE WOULD REV WAY UP BUT THERE WAS VERY LITTLE FORWARD MOVEMENT. IT SEEMED AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING INTO THE LOWER GEARS. I WAS VERY LUCKY TO GET THROUGH THE QUICKLY APPROACHING TRAFFIC, WITHOUT GETTING HIT OR SOMEONE ELSE GETTING HIT AS THE CARS WEAVED AROUND ME. AT A STOP, I SHIFTED INTO LOW WITH NO CHANGE. I TURNED THE OVER DRIVE ON AND OFF WITH NO CHANGE. I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND THERE WAS QUITE A BIG BANG AND THE WHOLE CAR SHOOK (THIS WAS SIMILAR TO WHAT I FELT ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I THOUGHT I HIT A BUMP). SHIFTING BACK INTO DRIVE, IT WAS THE SAME, LOTS OF RPM AND VERY LITTLE MOVEMENT FORWARD, AS IF I WAS STARTING IN FOURTH GEAR....
THE CAR WOULD ACT LIKE IT WAS IN 2ND OR 3RD GEAR WHEN YOU TRIED TO GO FROM A STOP. YOU WOULD HAVE TO GIVE IT A LOT OF GAS TO MOVE AND THERE WERE ALSO TIMES IN THE PAST WHERE IT WOULD GO BUT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR FOR A LONGER THAN NORMAL TIME. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN IT STARTED WORKING. NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON UNTIL ON OCT 25TH WHEN I WAS TRYING TO GO FROM A STOP AND THE CAR WAS HARDLY MOVING. WARNING LIGHTS STARTED COMING ON SO I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER AND KEPT IT RUNNING SO IT WOULD NOT CLEAR ANY CODES. THEY ENDED UP REPLACING THE OSS AND TSS SENSORS IN THE TRANSMISSION. *JS
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESSWAY THE CAR BEGAN MAKING A FUNNY NOISE. AFTER THE NOISE STARTED THE WRENCH (WARNING) LIGHT CAME ON, AND THEN THE CARE BEGIN TO DECELERATE AND I WAS STILL PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE EXPRESSWAY. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AS NORMAL, AND MADE REVVING NOISES WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED, BUT WOULD NOT MOVE INITIALLY. *JB

2008 FORD EDGE HAS HARD SHIFTS (ENGINE RACES LIKE IT'S IN NEUTRAL AND THEN SLAMS INTO GEAR WITH A LOUD BANG) IN TWO SCENARIOS - FROM 1ST TO 2ND, WHILE COASTING IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC, AND WHEN QUICKLY ACCELERATING, AS IN A PASSING MANEUVER, FROM AROUND 35 MPH. THIS RESULTS IN UNPREDICTABLE AUTOMOBILE PERFORMANCE.
WE WERE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND CAME TO A STOP SIGN. ALL OF THE SUDDEN, WHEN WE HIT THE GAS PEDAL, THE VEHICLE BARELY MOVED AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL WE FOUND A PLACE TO PULL OVER. WE PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND IT SHIFTED REALLY HARD. IT FELT LIKE SOMEBODY HIT US FROM BEHIND. IT ALSO SHIFTED OUT OF PARK VERY HARD. WE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A WHILE. WE STARTED THE CAR AND IT WORKED NORMAL AND WE DROVE IT RIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. OUR CONCERN IS THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE IT CAN STOP ACCELERATING AT ANY POINT. THE FORD TECHNICIAN COULD NOT ASSURE US THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. WE CONTACTED...
MY 2008 FORD EDGE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER HEARING A "CLUNKING" NOISE AND SMELLING EXHAUST COMING FROM THE UNDER CARRIAGE. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED "...REPLACE PTU ASSY FLUID, HAD BLOWN OUT VENT...". THE ENTIRE POWERTRAIN (583984) WAS REPLACED. THIS WAS THE 2ND INCIDENT IN 2 MONTHS. PRIOR TO THIS EVENT I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER EXPERIENCING "SLIPPING" TRANSMISSION. WHILE COMING TO A STOP, THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I LEFT THE CAR FOR SEVERAL HOURS, THEN RE-STARTED AND IT RAN FINE. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT VERIFY ANY PROBLEMS. *TR
LOSS OF POWER, ENGINE RACING WHEN GAS APPLIED, TACHOMETER NON RESPONSIVE, SUDDEN LUNGING OF POWER. LOUD CLUNKING LIKE BEING REAR ENDED. LIMPED HOME, WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN RESTARTED, PUT IT IN REVERSE AND A LOUD SLAMMING NOISE LIKE THE CLUNKING SOUND EARLIER AND FEELING OF BEING REAR ENDED. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, OVER 2 WEEKS LATER (LESS THAN 2 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY AND ONLY 971 MILES OUT OF THE 60,000 MILE WARRANTY) FORD DEALER TOLD ME THAT FORD WOULD NOT COVER ANY OF THE COST AND THE $4,012.69 TRANSMISSION REPAIR COST WAS ON ME. DURING THE MONTH OF JULY 2013, OUR 2008 FORD EDGE WOULD MAKE A GRINDING NOISE AT ABOUT 40 MPH. THE CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED BY A FORD DEALERSHIP IN JUNE 2013. PRIOR TO THE SERVICE, MY WIFE HAD BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE NOISE SO I DECIDED TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES PADS. THE BRAKE PADS WERE ONLY MAYBE 20 % WORN BUT I WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED THEM ANYWAY. MY WIFE HAD MADE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IN THE PAST WHICH PROMPTED ME TO CHECK AND REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES A FEW YEARS AGO. IN JULY 2013 THE NOISE PERSISTED SO WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO CHECK THE PROBLEM. THE FORD MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE FAILING. APPARENTLY, THERE IS A FLAW IN DESIGN OR WORKMANSHIP THAT IS ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE BEARING HOUSING AND TO CORRODE THE BEARING INNER AND OUTER RACE. SO,...
VEHICLE ROLLS WHEN PLACED IN PARK, VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARDS ON INCLINES WHILE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE, REAR BULB CONSTANTLY BURNS OUT, STRUT AND SUSPENSION FAILED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR, ALL OF SUDDEN THE CAR JUST STOPS WITH THE DASH BOARD DISPLAYING EVERYTHING. THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED AND THE CAR RAN FINE FOR 2 DAYS THEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY STARTED LOOSING SPEED AND WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. THE RPM'S DECREASED THEN JUMPED UP LIKE THE CAR HAD RESTARTED. THIS HAPPENED TWICE THEN I...
THIS INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. AFTER SHOPPING FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, I START MY CAR AND IT IMMEDIATELY MAKE A HARSH CLUNKING SOUND WHEN MOVING INTO DRIVE GEAR. THEN I HAVE LITTLE TO NO ACCELERATION AND MY SPEEDOMETER, ETC DOES NOT WORK. THE WRENCH SYMBOL COMES ON. WHEN PUTTING THE CAR INTO PARK, IT MAKES A VIOLENT, HARSH SOUND. THE FIRST 2 INCIDENTS, I LET THE CAR SIT FOR OVER 24 HOURS. WHEN I START AFTER 24 HOURS THE CAR WORKS COMPLETELY FINE AND ALL THE SYMPTOMS GO AWAY. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WITHIN 8 HOURS OF INCIDENT. THEY WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE IT WAS THE TURBINE AND SPEED SENSORS, WHICH I HAD REPLACED. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (50 -65MPH), FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR AND CAR COASTING STARTLING LOUD BANG FROM TRANSMISSION AND ENTIRE CAR JERKS. PUT FOOT BACK ON ACCELERATOR AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING. DOES NOT DO IT ALL THE TIME BUT AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. THE BANG IS LOUD AND STARTLING ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENT. OVER THE PAST 6 MONTHS THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS INCIDENTS WHERE MY VEHICLE, UPON RETURNING TO SPEED OR ENTERING A ROADWAY/HIGHWAY, OR OTHERWISE ENTERING A ROADWAY, IT HAS MADE A NOISE, A SUDDEN JERK, SEEM TO HOLD SPEED (FAIL TO INCREASE SPEED) AND SEEMS TO FEEL LIKE IT IS FAILING TO CHANGED GEARS (APPEARS TO REV IN RPMS SLIGHTLY), THEN JERKS AGAIN, AND COMES BACK INTO ROUTINE SHIFTING. IT IS AN AUTOMATIC. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN. I HAVE HAD THE FLUID CHECK, FLUSHED, REPLACED, ASKED MY MECHANIC AND SHE CAN FIND NO ISSUES. IT SEEMS TO FEEL LIKE IT BOGS DOWN, BUT RPMS APPEAR TO INCREASE (ALMOST AS IF IT IS NOT IN GEAR/NEUTRAL). IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY. I HAVE ROUTINELY CHECKED MY CAR FOR RECALLS. AND I SHOULD NOTE...

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
WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 40-65 MPH THE VEHICLE WILL ENGAGE HARSHLY WITH A LOUD BANG WHILE IN O/D. WHEN O/D IS OFF, CAR WILL ACCELERATE FASTER, WHEN APPLYING BREAK THERE IS A HESITATION AND CAR WILL NOT SLOW DOWN UNTIL BREAKS ARE APPLIED OVER AND OVER AGAIN. *TR

DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT A SPEED OF 55 TO 65 ON I-65 IN MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR BEGIN TO NOT RECOGNIZE THE GAS . IT SLOWED DOWN SUDDENLY AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SHAKE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING FORWARD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT & THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON & THE DISPLAY SAID "NO ODOMETER AVAILABLE" . THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE FORD DEALER TO HAVE AN OIL LEAK CHECKED. THEY DETERMINED THERE WAS A LEAK WITH THE PTU (POWER TRANSFER UNIT) SEAL. THEY TRIED TO REPAIR THE SEAL, BUT THIS DID NOT WORK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000.

WE BOUGHT OUR EDGE CERTIFIED THROUGH THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND WITHIN MONTHS THE TRANSMISSION WOULD VIOLENTLY SHIFT BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND. WHEN I TOOK IT IN THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION WILL OCCASIONALLY FAIL TO ENGAGE PROPERLY WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THE VEHICLE WILL INITIALLY MOVE FORWARD BUT THEN WILL FAIL TO ACCELERATE AS THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO INCREASE RPM. THIS HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES.
