THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BACK TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE FAILURE RECURRED A FEW MOMENTS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT CERTAIN ENGINE CYLINDERS MISFIRED AND MULTIPLE ENGINE COILS OVERHEATED. THERE WERE NO FLAMES VISIBLE. AS A RESULT, THE ENTIRE POWER TRAIN CIRCUIT BOARD HAD BURNED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000. MY 2007 EDGE STARTED TO EMIT A FOUL SMELL EVERY TIME I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES. IT WOULD SMELL LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING AND A COUPLE OF TIMES I PULLED OFF THE ROAD TO DOUBLE CHECK AND MAKE SURE THAT THE CAR WAS NOT ON FIRE. I TOOK THE CAR INTO A FORD DEALER TO HAVE THE FUEL TANK RECALL COMPETED SINCE THEY FINALLY CAME IN AND THEY NOTICED A LEAK IN THE PTU AND THAT IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD COST OVER $1350 TO BE REPLACED AND INSTALLED. THE PART ALONE IS OVER $800. FORD HAS HAD AT LEAST 3 SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS ISSUE AND STILL REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR FIXING THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

I LOST POWER AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THEY CAME UP WITH DIFFERENT THINGS, FINALLY I GOT TO THE RIGHT PLACE AND THEY FIGURED OUT THAT IT WAS THE PTU. THEY SAID THE SEAL HAD LEAKED ALL THE OIL OUT AND DESTROYED THE BEARINGS. YOU DON'T KNOW THE OIL IS LEAKING OUT AS IT GOES INTO THE EXHAUST AND EVAPORATES. THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND ME A USED ONE THAT THEY WENT THROUGH AND FOUND IT TO BE GOOD. COST WAS $1,800 TO REPLACE. AS I UNDERSTAND, FORD HAS COVERED UP THIS PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS. I HAVE SEEN MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN THE COMPLAINT SECTION FOR EDGES AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. THE 2007 FORD EDGE AWD 93,000 MILES DEVELOPED A SLIGHT HUMMING IN THE FRONT END, IT ACTUALLY SOUNDED LIKE A CUPPED TIRE OR A WHEEL BEARING. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED OUR MECHANIC AND HAD IT INSPECTED.
