The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start as intended. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the catalytic converter. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 137,000.
This is a HUGE SAFETY issue!!!!!! The engine randomly shuts off, which also causes the brakes to stop working and to have no power steering. Anything connected to the battery is fine (lights, radio, dashboard, etc.). myself, any passenger, and those around me are put at risk by the car shutting off in the middle of the road. Someone could hit me because I am not moving, or I am trying to get out of the way. or I might end up hitting someone else because the brakes don't work. this is a huge risk to life and limb. I was driving to the store and out of nowhere my car completely shut down the lights engine everything my steering wheel locked and I couldn't apply my breaks

THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ACTUATOR, PANEL, AND KNOB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WALLY ARMOUR CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1950 W STATE ST, ALLIANCE, OH 44601, (330) 422-8602) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS SLUDGE IN THE HEATER CORE. THE HEATER CORE, THERMOSTAT AND ACTUATOR WERE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. AFTER A SECONDARY DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
VEHICLE IN LIMP MODE AND WON'T SHIFT GEARS PROPERTY. STARTED AFTER A PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE HAD NO IDEA THAT THIS WAS GOING TO BE A ISSUE UNTIL I HAD IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN STARTED THE LIMP MODE AND THEN DRIVING IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. BECAUSE IT WON'T CHANGE GEAR AND GOING UP A HILL IS IMPOSSIBLE WHEN IT WON'T CHANGE GEARS. OR SPEED UP.. IT SLOWS DOWN INSTEAD.

THE LIGHT INDICATED THAT THE THERMOSTAT NEEDED TO BE CHECKED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT, HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE HEATER CORE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

PURCHASED 2012 DODGE SXT PLUS AT AUCTION. RECHARGED A/C BUT LOSE COLD AIR AFTER 3 DAYS. EVALUATIONS BY 2 MECHANICS, DYE, PRESSURE TESTS, SHOWS NO FREON LEAKS. HEATER CORE IS LEAKING AND POSSIBLE EVAPORATOR ISSUE, SAME AS WHAT'S SEEN IN OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR AVENGERS. FRUSTRATING THAT THE HEATER CORE LEAK IS SO COMMON ON AVENGERS, MECHANICS ALL STATE IS MANUFACTURING ISSUE, BUT NO RECALL ON IT. EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE AND NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WON'T GO OUT AGAIN.
MY CAR IS BLOWING COLD AIR OUT OF THE PASSAGE SIDE VENTS, THEN WARM ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, WHEN I RUN THE AC, AT IDLE OR DRIVING. THE AC NOW ONLY BLOWS COOL AIR OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE, AND WARM OUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE. WHEN I TURN THE CONTROL KNOBS, THE FAN WILL BLOW HIGH ON NUMBER 1. I BELIEVE THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AS WELL, WHEN I HAVE ON THE HEADLIGHTS, AND ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW, THE LIGHTS DIM, THEN RETURN TO REGULAR BRIGHTNESS. THERE IS A CLICKING NOISE FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS IN THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH FOR THE FIRST 10 SECONDS, WHEN STARTING THE CAR. MY BEST GUESS IS HEATER CORE OR ACTUATOR ISSUES. I KNOW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THESE CARS, PLEASE RECALL THE 2012 DODGE AVENGER SXT PLUS, TO FIX THE ISSUES AT HAND. THANK YOU
BANK 2 CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS SHOWING THAT THE CONVERTER CANNOT HANDLE THE EMISSIONS FROM BANK 2 OF THE ENGINE, CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO REPEATEDLY COME ON. THIS VEHICLE IS A 2012 DODGE AVENGER AND 2011-2014 DODGE AVENGERS HAVE A RECALL FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. ON APRIL 7TH 2020 I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. WHEN I GOT TO THE PEAK OF THE HILL AND I WENT TO TURN LEFT, THE CAR SHUT OFF AND THERE WAS NO POWER. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE ENGINE. IT STARTED IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAS HAPPENED ON THIS HILL, AT ALMOST THE SAME TIME IN THE MORNING. IT'S ALWAYS WHEN IT'S COLD AND HAS BEEN RAINING. IN TOTAL MY CAR HAS STALLED OVER 6 TIMES, ALWAYS EARLY MORNING, ON A HILL, AND IT'S COLD AND/OR RAINING.
IN THE LAST 3 YEARS MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED 5 TIMES. TODAY WAS THE 5TH TIME. I WAS ON A HILL ABOUT TO TURN ONTO ANOTHER STREET, AND AS I STARTED TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, THE CAR TURNED OFF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A VOICE MESSAGE WAS LEFT, BUT THEY FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.

THIS PROCESS WAS ATTEMPTED THREE TIMES, BUT IT STILL DID NOT WORK AND THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD OPERATE AS LONG AS IT DID NOT REACH 70 MPH. CADILLAC CONVERTER RECALL- WHEN THE CADILLAC CONVERTER WENT OUT THE CAR MADE A HORRIBLE NOISE AND LOST POWER TO ACCELERATE. COME TO FIND OUT THE PRESSURE BLEW BACK AND POPPED HOSES OF AND BROKE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE FLAP CANT OPEN AND CLOSE. CHRYSLER SAID THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS NOT DUE TO THE CADILLAC CONVERTER BUT TEO AUTO MACANICA SAID IT WAS. THIS IS A $700 REPAIR DUE TO A RECALL! HAD BEEN DRIVING CAR AROUND TOWN ALL DAY. STOPPED TO TURN AND LOUD NOISE HAPPENED. LUCKLY COASTED TO BLOCKS TO HOUSE AND HAD TOW TRUCK TAKE TO REPAIR SHOP.

THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *BF *JB

TOLD HEATER CORE WAS BAD AT 57,000 MILES BY DEALERSHIP DUE TO NO HEAT ON PASSENGER SIDE BUT HEAT ON DRIVER'S SIDE AND IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFECT IN THIS CAR. CAR IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED.
I WAS ON A HILL ABOUT TO TURN ONTO THE FREEWAY WHEN MY VEHICLE TURNED OFF/STALLED. I WAS MOVING ABOUT 10 MILES PER HOUR AND WHEN I WENT TO TURN RIGHT I FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL, AT WHICH POINT I REALIZED MY VEHICLE HAD STALLED. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE WITHIN THE LAST YEAR.
MY COOLING SYSTEM IS CONTAMINATED BY INFERIOR PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED WITHIN MY DODGE AVENGER. MATERIAL/S WITHIN THE COOLING SYSTEM FAIL AND CAUSE DEBRIS TO BUILD UP WITHIN THE ENTIRE COOLING SYSTEM. THIS MATERIAL/S IS A SANDY LIKE SUBSTANCE THAT BLOCKS CRITICAL COOLING AND HEATING COMPONENTS THAT HAS LEAD TO MAJOR FAILURES OF MY HEATING SYSTEM VIA THE DEBRIS BLOCKING THE HEATER CORE FROM FUNCTIONING. I CERTAIN THAT THIS DEBRIS IS ALSO AFFECTING MY ENGINE'S COOLING FUNCTION.

EVEN AFTER DRIVING TO DESTINATIONS THE HEAT NEVER WORKED FO THE PASSENGER SIDE. ONLY THE DRIVER'S SIDE HOT AIR WORKS. TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DID A FLUSH 3 TIMES BECAUSE THEY SAID GUNK CAN SOMETIMES BUILD UP ON THOSE CARS IN PARTICULAR, HOWEVER IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS THE HEATER CORE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 63K MILES SO THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT A CAR WITH LOW MILEAGE SHOULD EXPERIENCE.
MY 2012 DODGE AVENGER CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE HOOD WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FWY. I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR BECAUSE THE BRAKE BECAME LOCKED IN PLACE AND I COULDNT PRESS IT DOWN WITH MY FOOT. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DID NOT WORK. IT WAS UNSAFE TO GET OUT OF THE MOVING CAR, SO I WAS TRAPPED IN THE CAR AS THE FIRE UNDER THE HOOD GREW RAPIDLY. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT AND WITH QUICK THINKING, I USED THE CURB AT THE END OF THE FWY OFF RAMP TO HELP ME STOP THE CAR. WHEN FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED, THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF MY CAR WAS FULLY ENGULFED. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, CHRYSLER/DODGE HAS HAD REAPEATED COMPLAINTS REGARDING SIMILAR INCIDENTS.
MY HEAT STOPPED WORKING ON HALF OF MY CAR AND I FLUSHED THE HEATER CORE AND REPLACED THE BLEND DOOR ACTUATORS AND IT STILL DOESN'T WORK.
TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED. FIRST WAS IN NOVEMBER 2018. I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE VEHICLE FLASHED THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR LIGHT ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE CAR LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 25MPH. BROUGHT TO DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THEY COULDN'T CHECK THE ETC LIGHT DUE TO IT SHUTTING OFF WITH RESTART OF THE VEHICLE BUT WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW ALTERNATOR. FIXED THE ALTERNATOR AND NO PROBLEMS AGAIN UNTIL JANUARY 2019. THIS TIME I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY AND THE CAR FLASHED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND DIED WHILE IN MOTION. POWER STEERING WAS VERY TIGHT BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. AFTER 4 TRIES OF RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, IT STARTED BACK UP BUT THE CHECK ENGINE...
MY HEATER IS NOT BLOWING OUT HOT AIR. I WAS TOLD THAT CASTING SAND WAS IN THE COOLING RESERVOIR THAT'S CAUSING THE HEATER TO NOT BLOW OUT HOT AIR AND THAT THE CASTING SAND WILL CAUSE SLUDGE IN MY COOLING SYSTEM. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS NO FAULT OF MY MAKING AND THIS HAPPENED AT THE MANUFACTURING PLANT DODGE WILL NOT FIX THEIR MISTAKE NOR IS IT COVERED BY MY LIFETIME ADDED CARE PLUS WARRANTY.
IN APRIL 2018 AND AGAIN IN NOVEMBER 2018 MY CAR STALLED, COMPLETELY DIED WHILE I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A HILL. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE CAR. THIS WAS ON A HILL, HEADING TO A HIGHWAY ENTRY.
HEATER CORE PER DODGE DEALERSHIP IS STOPPED UP. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE HEAT WOULDN'T GET UP TO A SATISFACTORY TEMPERATURE, THEY TESTED IT & SAID THEY COULD TRY FLUSHING BUT THEY THOUGHT IT NEEDED REPLACING.
WHEN HEAT OR AC IS TURNED ON EITHER IN MOTION OR NOT THERE IS A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER DASHBOARD ABOUT FIVE CLICKS AND THE CLICKS WILL STOP AND THE HEAT WILL COME OUT OF DRIVER SIDE, BUT COOL AIR ON PASSENGER SIDE. IF TURNED OFF AND BACK ON IT WILL REPEAT THE FIVE CLICKING NOISE AND THE HEAT WILL KICK ON. ALSO THIS "HEAT" IS LUKEWARM AT BEST.
PASSENGER SIDE HEATER BLOWING COLD AIR DURING ALL OPERATION PHASES. DEALER STATED DUE TO SAND CASTING FROM THE ALUMINUM BLOCK PLUGGING THE HEATER CORE. THE VEHICLE HAS CLOSE TON 50K MILES.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
MY DODGE AVENGER RECENTLY STARTED STALLING/SHUTTING DOWN WHILE IN MOTION. IT HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS. I LOOSE ALL POWER TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKES, I CANNOT CONTROL THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO AUTONATION CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM NORTH FORT WORTH (11200 N FREEWAY, FORT WORTH, TX 76177, (817) 642-7894) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
I OWN A DODGE 2012 AVENGER AND HAD SOME ISSUES HERE AND THERE BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE JUST DIED FOR NO REASON. I WAS STOPPED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON A HILL, READY TO MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDDLE AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I WASN'T SURE WHAT WAS GOING ON SO I PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS WHICH THANKFULLY WORKED. I COULD TELL STRAIGHT AWAY THAT THE CAR WASN'T EVEN ON SO I PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED THE KEY AND IT STARTED UP. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY DODGE AS IT POSES A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD ESPECIALLY IF I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF HEAVY TRAFFIC ON A FREEWAY.
DRIVING AT 50-55 MPH AND CHECK ENGINE AND OTHER DASHBOARD LIGHTS FLASHED AND STARTED LOSING POWER. PULLED OFF TO SIDE STREET A FEW FEET AWAY. I WAS LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO GET IN CENTER TURN LANE WHERE THE CAR DIED COMPLETELY. POWER STEERING ALSO WAS LOST. WE PUSHED CAR OFF ROAD WHERE IT RESTARTED ABOUT 1/2 HOUR LATER. DRIVING HOME LESS THEN 5 MILES IT DIED BUT STARTED AGAIN.
CLIMATE CONTROL BLOWS COLD AIR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND WARM AIR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEN HEAT IS ON AND DRIVING. ENGINE TEMPERATURE DOES NOT REACH NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE WHEN DRIVING IN COLD WEATHER. TOOK TO MY LOCAL TRUSTED MECHANIC AND HE DIAGNOSED THE HEATER CORE IS PLUGGED WITH DEBRIS. LOOKED ONLINE AND THE DODGE AVENGER HAVE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH THAT SAME ISSUE. CALLED CHRYSLER GROUP AND MADE A COMPLAINT AND GOT A CASE NUMBER. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT LATER THIS WEEK TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED BY A DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECORD.
I TOOK MY CAR TO NTB THEY STATED THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR FOR THE TRANSMISSION AND I GOT ONLINE TO CHECK FOR RECALLS AND IT SAIS 0 DETECTED BUT I BELIEVE THIS NEEDS TO BE REASSURED. THERE WAS A RECALL BACK IN 2015 AND I WOULD LIKE FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN.
