While driving at highway speed, 65mph, the 2013 Town and Country shut down. The dash instruments and all internal lighting shut off, the radio shut off and the blower fan for heat shut off. I lost the ability to steer and brake (power steering went out) but managed to maneuver the vehicle to the right lane. The car would not respond to any acceleration attempt. I tried turning the key while coasting down the highway, the vehicle did not restart. I then put the vehicle into neutral and tried turning the key and it did not restart. I then turned the key to the off position and then tried to restart and it successfully started. My dash instruments illuminated, the radio and heat blower came back on and I was able to regain control of the vehicle.
The Battery died and would not recharge. I checked the van. No lights were left on; no warning notifications. I replaced the battery. I had the seat behind the driver seat stowed because I had surgery on my left foot and needed to haul my knee cart with me. I no longer needed it so I raised the seat and found it had melted/burnt in several spots on the seat back. I was mortified! My van is a 2013 but is in great shape and only has 46,937 miles on it. It was parked in my garage and could have caused a house fire killing all occupants. I contacted Chrysler. They won't assist in the repair or replacement stating it hadn't been recalled and was no longer in warranty. Insurance denied the claim due to it being a part malfunction. Please let others know that the seat heater & wiring...
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town And Country. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 55 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the ignition switch. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V373000 (Electrical System, Air Bags); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 98,000.
I experienced a no start situation. The vehicle would crank but not start. I did some research on the internet and found other Dodge/Chrysler vehicles with the same problem. I noticed they all had a similar, if not the same TIPM fusebox. The remedy was the same. You can put a bypass jumper wire on the fuse and the car will start. The problem is a fuel relay failure that is soldered to a circuit board inside the TIPM. There are after- market remedies. I don’t know if these remedies protect in the event of a crash, severed fuel line, and fire. Some Dodge/Chrysler models have a recall on this issue. This recall should be extended to my vehicle and many more. This is not my vehicle. I do some of the service of this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start as intended. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle started; however, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was started, and the contact turned the vehicle off. The contact became aware that the fuel pump had continued running. The contact, who was a licensed independent mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle with TIPM failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V813000 (Electrical system); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.
Intergrated power control module is throwing error even after being fixed by Firestone automotive. Car is randomly Turing off while driving down the road. Issues startin.
TIPM recall
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to safely park on the side of the road, where the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was linked to the TIPM. The contact was informed that the TIPM needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the "Accessory On" light illuminated, and the starter made an abnormal grinding sound. The contact stated that several attempts were needed to start the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times per week and several times during the same day. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic, and it was determined that the WIN Module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 120,000.
Today, we experienced, for the FOURTH time, a complete stall while driving. Accelerator would not work at all. Van died while driving approx 25 mph. We just had the entire fuel pump & fuel pump relay completely replaced. We have replaced both of these twice now, in less than 3 years. Same problem keeps happening. Mechanic agrees, that the core problem lies within a failure of the TIPM system. It's an electrical problem causing the fuel pump to fail while driving. This is extremely dangerous. It happened to us previously, while we were on the interstate driving approx 65 mph, and it almost caused us to crash the vehicle. Another problem to also note, is this same problem has caused the A/C unit to stop working. Blows out hot air, but will not produce cold air. A/C was completely replaced. Still not working. Mechanic says yet again, it's a failure...
The passenger side rear sliding door will not lock and it periodically opens on its own. There is no warning or reason for this occurrence. It has happened multiple times and seems to be happening more often as time goes on. The vehicle has not been professionally inspected.
The WIN module in the listed vehicle has failed and is being replaced. This is the same type of WIN module that was contained in a recall for 2008-2010 models and should be updated to include the models beyond 2010. The problem has been random for a couple of years, but recently we have had constant issues with the vehicle shutting off while driving, leaving no power for steering or braking. The entire vehicle shuts off randomly, including WHILE DRIVING and is dangerous for anyone who owns this model vehicle. I am surprised and disappointed that newer models (same base design) are experiencing the same issue and nothing has been done. The following websites address the issue with model years similar to mine. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] Included with this complaint is the repair estimate for my vehicle ($2057.38 for the replacement WIN module and programming). I have also...
The car would turn off as I am driving on the high way. I would have to wait about forty five minutes to restart the car. As I did my research to why this was happing I came across information that this was caused by a malfunction with in the TIMP.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was flashing. Additionally, the Auto Start feature was inoperable. The contact also stated that the heater was activated independently. While driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the hood latch had been seized, and the electrical system was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but the dealer declined to service the vehicle and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.
While driving the car stalls at speed and all electrical components stop functioning. This causes failure to the power steering, power brakes and all components that permit driving the vehicle. Has happened numerous times with no codes shown on the dash. Fuel was adequate and no apparent defects. Taken to mechanic and there are no codes to check and commonly the engine will start up after a while and appear to have no problems. This is very dangerous as the car can stall at any speed.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, he slightly touched the ignition key, and the vehicle shut off inadvertently. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving on a bumpy road surface. The contact was able to pull to the side of the roadway and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring increasingly while driving and caused the headlights to turn off and the vehicle to lose power steering functionality. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Wireless Ignition Node (WIN) module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN and the year vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V373000 (Electrical System, Air Bags) . The failure mileage was...
Vehicle shuts down while driving and shuts down when key fob is bumped or touched while driving. Very dangerous and have come very close to collision often. This ignition switch on our 2013 Chrysler Town and Country van should be recalled due to safety issues.
Ignition WIN module turns off while driving. Causes loss off power to the van while moving. Very dangerous! Chyrsler Town & Country has already issued a recall for this problem on 2009 & 2010 models. This recall needs to be extended to additional years & makes of Chysler products that use this ignition WIN module. Before people get killed.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled without any warning. The contact stated that the instrument panel was not illuminated. The contact shifted into neutral and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to another dealer and the contact was informed that the WIN module and the control internal grade power module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 175,000. The contact stated that the failure occurs every day and multiple times a day. The vehicle has not been repaired.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled without warning, after driving over a bump in the roadway and while coming to an abrupt stop. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to the ignition switch which would cause the vehicle to turn off inadvertently upon the slightest movement of the key while in the ignition. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 102,000.
I purchased this van used in 2023, but this problem has been on going for years thebowner said. The van sliding door get stuck in open position on right side. There is a buzzing noise coming from lock mechanism in left sliding door when you open ANY door or press the unlock button. There is no recalls for this but it is a known problem. Issues with faulty 2013 chrysler town and country mini van are currently in lawsuit claims. Help fix this before it kills someone. I have 3 small children if the door opens while driving that puts us in danger.
Everyone is having problems with fuel pump relay. Mine is constantly running and draining battery. I have been pulling the fuse everytime I get out of vehicle. There are multiple vehicle jeeps and others that have this same relay and some have been recalled. There has been recalls on plastic part on back lift gates that might come off and hit people. This is fuel.
My back driver side sliding door stopped working and I had to remove my grandchild from the window because the car was loaded and packed for a trip. Then about 5 months after the door stopped my passenger and driverside windows would roll down and immediately back up and then down and not close. This caused extreme cold for passengers in the vehicle since we were driving in bad weather and could not stop to try to get them rolled up. Having only 1 back door that works makes it completely impossible to load and unload my family and it bothers me if there were an emergency and had to exit vehicle I wouldn't be able to get all my grandkids out in a timely manner. When I pull up to a construction zone and have to stop I have to open my door to hear to talk to them...
The van will randomly shut off while driving. it may happen out of the blue while on the highway, hitting a bump, or even driving at slow speeds. The instrument panel remains on, I can put the van in neutral while still moving and restart the van. Sometimes it happens multiple times a week, sometimes it happens only a few months. There are no check engine light on or anything else.
This issue has to do with the ignition switch. While driving, the car would randomly shut completely off causing a loss of power to the electrical systems, power steering, effective braking, etc. This has occurred several times. Once while driving at night, the vehicle completely shut off while driving at approximately 60mph, causing the headlights to shut off and the power to completely cut off. This can be extremely dangerous and even deadly. My safety was put at risk as I loss my vision(without headlights) and losing power(steering, engine, etc.) caused me to veer into the incoming traffic lane. A head-on collision could have occurred due to a loss of control. The issue is intermittently and cannot be intentionally replicated. However, it has occurred numerous times. The component has not been inspected by the manufacturer. There is no warning indicators when the problem occurs. It usually occurs suddenly without hindsight....
Horn, and door locks activate randomly. Now vehicle will crank but not turn over. Research and troubleshooting confirms a bad TIPM which was recalled in other Dodge and Jeep vehicles, but not the Chrysler Town and Country.
Fuel pump continues to run after shut down, draining battery. Related to my other report (11498461).
What started as an intermittent crank / no start issue quickly progressed to complete failure of fuel pump relay that is part of TIPM. During the first crank no start issue on the day in question I was able to use remote start and the vehicle started normally. (Probably do to slightly higher system voltage as some accessories are turned off during remote start vs pushbutton start). Later the same day is when the complete failure occurred. This could be a major inconvenience for many, but in the harsh Minnesota winters it's more than just inconvenient when you have a wife and young kids in a vehicle away from home that will not start when air temps are in the single digits and wind chill is far below zero. Fortunately / sadly, this is such a common problem that I was able to diagnose it rather quickly with Google, but...
while driving my 2013 town and country it will shut off everything will shut down no light no power steering this has happen about ten times over the last few months
Consistent failure of the "Total Integrated Power Module" which controls so many items in the car such as windshield wipers, windshield defroster fan, exterior lighting systems, heater fan, the ability for the car to start, the horn may or may not sound and many other accessory related items. It is a very WELL KNOWN failure of these modules and they are basically un available blamed on the supply chain problems. As a result of these problems in this very well known module failure cars have become basically un-able to drive safely or not at all and sit in dealers service areas waiting for these modules to be replaced at the owners cost in most cases in excess of $1,000.00 for a part that is a known failure in design by Chrysler Corporation and their various owners (Mercedes Benz, Fiat, Stellantis) and others unknown at this time. This is against the...
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH uphill, the vehicle independently stopped. The vehicle was shifted into reverse(R) and the vehicle inadvertently drove forward. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic with the check engine warning light illuminated. The mechanic replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, and alternator. The mechanic stated there might also be a failure with the TIPM. The vehicle was also towed to another independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined there was a failure with the fuel line connector and an abnormal clicking noise. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Vehicle will shot down all of the sudden causing to loosing power steering an brakes.
My vehicle will shut down randomly. If I am driving down the highway ot will turn off. If I am at a stoplight it will turn off. It seems this might be in the ignition switch. Sometimes it will start back up with no problem, and other times it will start and turn off immediately. When this happens I lose my breaks due to the van shutting down. If scares me when I have to cross multiple lanes of traffic with the other lanes traveling 65 mph. If I approach railroad crossings as well. To help answer the following question - this happens frequently. Multiple times week while driving.
Vehicle shuts off during travel. Randomly happens. Mechanics says there is no know issues.
The car will not start when cold. We did replace the battery and a few other parts. But it can not be diagnosed. My girls and I were stranded in the cold, far from home due to the issue. When it gets nice out than the van starts. I think sometimes should be done, due to family kids, and handicap need accessible vans.
The issue is the fuel pump relay which is internal to the total intigrated power modual or tipm. The van wouldn’t start.
Both power sliding doors are malfunctioning. The will not close when using the remote on the key fob or the buttons inside the cabin. There is also no visual (lights) or sound signal alerting us to the failure of the door operation. The door remained open after passengers exiting the vehicle while in public parking lots and at our residence. Intermittently the power sliding doors stop working at all and do not open all the way and get stuck half way opened causing a safety hazard for my family members.
Our van just stops running when driving. This causes the power steering and brakes to stop working, no warning at all anything is happening. This has happened several times in the last three days. I coasted to side of road once. I almost rear-ended and was almost rear-ended in same incident today due to sudden shut off. I fear for my life and family safety. I have a son who travels in a wheelchair in the vehicle and our only transportation. My son cannot go to school now as he has no transportation to get there since this is his wheelchair van. He cannot ride in a regular vehicle, he must ride in his powerchair due to mobility and specialized seating. Two weeks ago, vehicle acted like we didn't have traction and wheels locked up. That has happened several times. Then two days before the stop running started the traction...
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? While driving the entire engine and system shut off. All powered functions ceased and i was left to pull over with no power steering, the brakes didn't respond as well, signals weren't working either. Once pulled over I was able to restart the car with no issue, but the vehicle has continued to randomly lose all power, it seems to occur more frequently when when braking or slowing down. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? It was put at great risk as the car could have lost control and i was at limited capacity to correct with no engine power or other powered functions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police,...
Integrated fuel pump relay went out and horn started sounding and wouldn't turn off. Fuel pump relay won't work and horn relay won't turn off.
Over a year ago, we began to have a problem in which the vehicle would, on occasion, not start. The “check engine” light would come on, along with another icon that looked like a lightning bolt between two inverted parentheses. Sometimes it started up on the first try, other times it would take a few attempts, and sometimes it would not start at all. Then a new wrinkle emerged: the van conked out on us a few times while on the road -- once while merging onto a highway. We now had a serious (and potentially dangerous) problem on our hands. We had the fuel pump replaced, but the problem persisted. I took the van to our local Chrysler dealership to have them figure it out. They replaced the throttle body and cleaned the fuel injectors and fuel system. I drove the car home without incident, but the following morning,...
My Chrysler Town and Country has serious electrical issues. It started with the radio shutting off and restarting by itself, which is not a serious issue at all. But yesterday, at a red light, the radio shut off and so did the car. The engine stopped working, the accelerator pedal would not respond. It was terrifying. Thankfully we were at a red light, but if this were to happen on a busy highway, or even just on a regular street with traffic, it could be a life threatening situation. From what I have researched online, this is a common problem with Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge cars. Legal action has been taken and class action lawsuits were filed to address this matter. The Center for Auto Safety (CAS) asked this very own NHTSA to open an investigation into faulty TIPM, which seem to be the problem that causes these cars to...
The rear passenger sliding door lock actuator has failed. There is a loud buzzing noise when the door unlocks. I was told eventually the lock will fail entirely which is a huge safety risk. There would be the potential for someone to steal the car or worse.
On multiple occasions while driving, the vehicle has simply powered itself off without warning. In addition to the engine cutting off, all interior features and lights also lose power. To restart the vehicle, you must remove the key from the ignition, put the car in park, and then put the key back in with your foot on the brake. This is incredibly dangerous. Diagnostic error codes do not capture the cause of the issue.
On occasion at least four different times in the past two months, my vehicle has completely shut off while I am driving it. In an instant, a warning comes on my dash that has a lightening bolt, the engine and all electrical/power shuts off, the wheel locks, and I am only able to brake. I have taken it to the dealership where they charged me $100 to find what the issue was, even though unsuccessful. They said because the vehicle showed no codes, they didn’t know the reason for the malfunction, and sent me home. I called Chrysler Recall and they said because there are no open recalls, they are unable to help me. When searching online, I see a lot of people have had this exact same issue but no one helps them fix it. Lawsuits have emerged. Accidents have happened. I have three small children who rely on...
THE VANS POWER WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD TURN ON AND OFF. THE RADIO ON AND OFF. ALL DASH LIGHTS ON AND OFF. THEN DRIVING 26MPH ONE DAY IT DID THIS AND THE WHOLE ENGINE SHUT OFF WITH THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION WHILE DRIVING. I LOST ALL POWER, POWER STEERING, AND BRAKES! BATTERY WAS REPLACED AND THE ISSUES KEPT GETTING WORSE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL IT STARTED TO JERK ON ME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AND THE ABS LIGHT WILL STAY ON, IT ALSO STALLS AT RANDUM ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING, EVERY 2 TO 3 YEARS I HAVE TO HAVE THE BRAKES AND THE ROTORS REDONE, I HAD THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR REPLACED AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY FOUND METAL FRAGMENTS ON THE SENSOR I EVEN SAW IT AND WAS TOLD THAT THAT USUALLY TELLS THEM THAT THIS IS A TIMING PROBLEM AND COULD BE THE PROBLEM FOR STALLING AND IF THAT DOESN'T WORK THEN IT WILL BE THE ENGINE, THE TIMING PROBLEM WILL COST AROUND $2000 ALONG WITH THE COST OF THE ENGINE IF ITS NOT THE TIMING,THEN THERE IS A EVAPORATOR CORE PROBLEM THAT IS COSTLY, THERE IS A MANIFOLD GASKET LEAK ALSO ANOTHER $1000,I'VE ALWAYS DONE THE...
VAN PERIODICALLY STALLS WHEN DRIVING (NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON), LUCKILY IT HAS BEEN ON LOCAL ROADS AND NOT AN INTERSTATE. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 6-7 TIMES IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS. I'VE HAD IT IN TWICE TO OUR REGULAR SHOP. THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY FIRST, AND THEN SUGGESTED WE TAKE TO THE DEALER (AS THEY HAD RECENTLY SENT A DURAGO TO DEALER FOR SAME PROBLEM). DEALER REPLACED THER,OSTAT AND PROMISED THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. STILL DOING IT. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE, IT'S NOT SAFE! SEARCHES HAVE REVEALED MANY CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IT LAST HAPPENED 3/22/21.
